[Q] locked orientation after "docking" - Xperia Play General

So I've searched through the forums a bit and can't seem to find an answer to my question... hopefully some of you have the answer though. When I'm driving I plug both my car charger and auxiliary audio jack into my phone so that it will charge while playing pandora. Problem is when I do this, the phone seems to think I've plugged it into a dock, and locks the phone into landscape mode.
I 'believe' I'm running DoomKernel for CDMA V1 and the 2.3.3 system... but it's been about a month since I've touched anything on it so I could be mistaken/forgot what I did to it last.
Anyone have a suggestion on how to unlock this orientation? It even stays this way after I unplug it sometimes.
Edit: Just saw that I wasn't supposed to ask questions in this forum anymore... now I feel stupid! I'm reposting in the correct area, feel free to delete!

What could I do with this phone without a carrier?

Well... I recently changed carriers (from Bell to Rogers) and with the change I've upgraded to the HTC Magic. What I'm wondering is what to do with the old phone.
Hopefully someone here has some great creative idea.. other than giving it away or using it as a dedicated mp3 player or the like.
PS This ironically is my first post in this forum. Truly, from trolling these forums for over a year, my old phone went from kinda neat (stock) to being fully usable (NFSFAN's roms come to mind) to "look what i can do!" (android) all on the shoulders of your hard work. You all don't get enough credit so I just wanna say thanks to everyone here who kept this phone kick a$$ while I was using it. You guys rock!

i'd suggest using it as a dedicated/mounted gps unit; via iGo/TomTom. Thats what I'm planning on doing whence i upgrade

second that. iGo 08 windows mobile, works fine without data.
I use my xv6700 as a permanent GPS with a bluetooth receiver. Can't wait for my NE2 at the end of the month. The 6900 will go on the dash and that means no more bluetooth connecting everytime I want GPS!
I 3rd the iGo as GPS.
When I start using the Vogue does anyone know a way to get the GPS to automatically connect, and iGo to initiate, say once my car starts? It's connected through my dash to a cigarette adapter splitter, which powers on when my car starts. So is there a program that will launch iGo on USB power? (Does iGo automatically configure the internal GPS itself?) And then when the power shuts off it would turn off the unit.
I guess I could leave the battery out, and maybe boot the whole unit everytime, and have iGo run at startup... but I think for trips it would be best just to leave the battery in and hold the GPS position for quick stops, so i wouldn't have to reroute if I turn the car off.
But then on my daily commute the Vogues battery's going to drain to zero after I park my car and then charge practically everytime i run the car... lowering my gas mileage and running my alternator extra... not that all the stuff i have plugged in doesnt do that already.
Of course, this is assuming im going to be lazy and never want to press a power button or close on the screen
my vogue auto-powers on when it receives power from the USB port, so if I shut it off after turning off the car, it will turn itself on when i restart the car. If I put the gps launcher that I used for iGo into the windows startup, it would've always brought me directly to the GPS screen.
Is it just my vogue that does this? I cannot turn it off when connected to USB power, it will just reboot instead.
EDIT: On my dedicated GPS unit, it automatically turns off if I disconnect power, with a warning box that pops up asking if I want to cancel... I suppose that could be written pretty easily...
just my .02 but you could always dl ppod app and pretend its an ipod! Nah, GPS is a better use. BTW i prefer tomtom 7.45

HD2 calling random people on its own

My phone has been acting very strangely for the past hour. I've been making dinner in the kitchen for awhile while the phone sat on my office desk, screen side up with the screen turned off.
I heard the phone ringing so I ran upstairs to answer. A client of mine was calling to ask me why I had just called him. I hadn't even touched the phone for atleast a couple hours so I just apologized and hung up. I start making my way back downstairs when the phone rings again. This time it's a friend of mine asking the same thing. After apologizing again and hanging up, I check the call log only to find there's 15 outgoing calls in the past 40 minutes or so.
What the hell is going on? I soft reset the phone and so far it hasn't called anyone. Most of the people it called were my clients or business associates who I can well imagine don't appreciate being called on a sunday evening. Has any other HD2 owner had a similar thing happen to them? I'm running a stock 1.66 ROM, if that matters.
Hi, I bought a cradle for my HD2 and it started to call various numbers in the wee small hours (when in the cradle)- much to my friends' annoyance. I put it down to a poor power supply for the cradle (it was a european 2 plug transformer so I had to use an adapter). Since changing the power supply, the phone has behaved itself.
Was your phone on charge - if so, maybe check the quality of the charger, if not, then sorry but I have no suggestions.
Good luck!
Jesus, that's a nasty fault. Keep us updated...
same here
I had the same, some days ago. I was listening music on my hd2 with the earphones. Suddenly the phone interrupted the music, to make a call. Some minutes later my colleague called me to ask me why I needed him.
Soft reset, and it seems stable. but such jokes are expensive, since am mostly abroad.
I sort of had the same thing my hd2 was sending txts to ppl for 1 day till Idid a softreset. but it dished out 20 txts before I found out.
i think the reason of this is the big touchscreen sensitivity bug. sometimes my touchscreen has also his own life and dials numbers or changes tabs.
maybe it appears more often in cradle because the phone is not locked while it is docked to it! for me it mostly happens when the device is connected by usb to my notebook - because it is unlocked... i hope you understand what i mean.
maybe the reduction of sensitivity will be a solution for you!
I'm getting this! my mate played me a 4 minute voicemail of me telling the kids off today!
My mrs has also said i've rung her (and she stayed on and listened in!!! NOT GOOD lol) it's happened a few times with her
Now, this could be that i forgot to lock the phone before i put it in pocket, but it's happening a bit too much now, i will monitor it from now on making damn sure i lock it before pocketing it
Ha! Had the same happen this morning - driving to work, plugged my headphones in as the cd player in the car isn't working, 20 mins down the road it decided to ring a friend - 3 times in quick succession. As it was in front of me in my car phone holder I saw it happen and cancelled the call as it was very early!
Restarted the phone and it didn't do it again.... until driving home from work, same thing, same person... he was the last person that I had called previously, but even so... a bit odd!!
I pulled the headphones out and it didn't happen again....
Weird, eh?

i got the same problem once.. it happened only with the earplugs pluged in Oo
well doesnt matter, it did it never again.
but i noticed that the phone called only the last number i called.. only the last one, i even called my home number, and tried it again.. it called automatically the last number then -> my home
but yea, like i said, it never happened again, and its like 2 months since then
The exactly same thing happened to me too. I was listeing to music with my earplugs and it suddenly started calling my girlfriend (I guess it was lonely) but the interesting thing is that It never finished the call. It started dialing and after 1sec it automaticly disconected. SR did the trick.
The funny thing is that this happened to me when I was just having the worst morning ever (With cold I went to school for final exam and I forget my jacket (suit) in train and even that I woke up 1hour early I still came late because the bus i was supposed to be in crashed before my bus station, well but thats offtopic)
I've since spotted other forums with people saying the same thing when headphones are plugged in - my experience was with non Htc headphones - not sure if that's relevant? Also - just before it happened I had the audio skipping problem - again, not sure if that's related either - I've seen a thread on here somewhere regarding music player skipping issues, so will check that out....
Cheers folks!
steve
same thing here, phone calls last dialed number, while listening to music with non htc headpones...
has noone found a solution by now?
eh just found out, its not relevant, that one is listening to music, its just the connected headphones ;/
Correct. It has got something to do with the connector of the headphone.
the connection-plugs are too narrow. It doesn't matter if you have a 'real' or immitation headset..
It is an htc disfunction which also was caused with the HTC Diamond and other htc phones.
Seems that htc aren't able to fix this!
btw The best thing to do is to call a fake number first; like 0000001 or so because the htc (when touching the wire / connector wrongly) will only call the last number used, which is very annoying when it calls your wife in the middle of the night going to work...
Cheers

I no it doesn't help, but I have never had this problem, with using any headphones I have I got 3 different sets and non of them do this ,
you dont have a dodgy program installed like that crazy game that was making international calls do you

no not at all, just flashed a new rom (miri+dinik) and task 29 inbefore.
@qs2010: so buying a stock headphone, doesn't solve ?
urgh too bad i just ordered one :/
i am pretty sure, it was behaving normally, the time i used the stock ones (lost them)
Weirdly, since formatting my memory card using the onboard function on the phone (to try to cure the music stuttering problem) my phone hasn't called anyone randomly when using either of the two sets of headphones or audio out cables! It also cured the music stutter issue!
I have the same problem when I plug in/out earbuds or headphones, but it's intermittent; basically the jack plug messes with the buttons wire and cause the Call button to be sent multiple times, which should (depends on your ROM) cause the phone to call the last contact on your history.
To quickly check if you have it, try plugging in/out your headphones, maybe with a video playing, or turning the jack plug while they're connected.
Doesn't happen with me right now. Not sure if it's because of the ROM or the humidity.
+1
Absolutely the same thing is happening to me. I watch films on my HD2 very often(using non-HTC headphones) and sometimes it starts dialing the last dialled number from the call history list.
What I am doing now to fix it is calling myself after all phone conversations (
I hope there will be a hotfix or something because that is really annoying.
I've had this problem occur with headphones and without. I walk regularly and use the HD2 to listen to music. Over the last 6 months it's dialed people randomly on maybe a dozen occasions. Once it starts doing it it will continue to attempt redialing until a reset.
Today however I had no headphones on, the phone was in my back pocket, and it dialed my nephew who happened to be standing right beside me. He said it was me who had phoned him, so I checked my phone and it was in the process of dialing another person entirely.
Extraordinarily annoying.
These occurred on stock rom, and more recently Energy.
From what I've read in this thread, people are describing two problems, both of which I've experienced.
Firstly, I have a non-htc charger that I have discovered causes random points of the touchscreen to act as though they have been touched. Basically, if I plug in to this charger with the phone on I can watch the screen go crazy as though someone is randomly touching and swiping it. I think this is the kind of problem people would be having if the phone calls randomly when on a charger or cradle.
Secondly, I have found that when headphones get plugged in they sometimes trigger hardware button presses. The most common problem here being that it calls the last dialled number when I plug in headphones. I've had the problem intermittently with anything I plug into the headphone jack, but some things are more likely to trigger it than others. For example, a battery-operated FM transmitter I use causes lots of problems, unpowered headphones cause only a few. My suspicion is that small voltages shorting across contacts in the headphone port as the plug is inserted mimic the functions of the HTC headphone control buttons. This might make problems more likely when there are sources of static electricity around your headphone wires, or when you plug in something powered.

HTC Battery Charger - Mind of its Own!!!

Hey.
Recently realised i most definately needed a second battery! Lame.
So i purchased this:
ttp://cgi.ebay.com.au/1350mAh-Battery-AC-Charger-HTC-HD2-HD-2-Leo-T8585-/250621580195?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item3a5a35d3a3#ht_2818wt_1165
But ever since I've got it, i haven't been able to use my phone while its charging. The phone goes berserk when its plugged in and im trying to use it, I have to keep it locked otherwise it calls people and does all sorts of things while its charging!!
Im assuming it might be faulty and sending some power surges or something??? through to the phone and that is being received by the phone as touch screen input signals....
Its really screwing me over atm because I cant find my old charger and it keeps messing up my alarm and not waking me up! Anyone else have this problem, or know what it would be?
Surely its a dodgy charger but does that make sense?
Cheers.
I would like to know the answer to this question as well. My phone does the exact same thing, except I am using the original htc charger !!! The funny thing is that when i used Nokia compatible charger on my HD2 it wasn't acting like that, and all was normal
anyone help?

TV Out

Hi all,
I did a forum search for "TV Out" but got no results.
Recently, I bought a A/V video cable to play with 'TV Out' option on the phone. Plugged it into TV (Yellow-video, Red/White-audio) then 3.5 into phone. Turned on the 'TV Out' on phone but got a scramble picture. I read on some other forum about using Red as video and Yellow/White as audio. Try it this way and it locked up my phone (blank screen) , had to remove battery to restart phone.
Has anyone gotten 'TV Out' to work, what is the process?
Thx.

depends on the cable you have. i bought a cable on ebay for 3 bucks and it works like a charm. just plug it in, then enable tv out on the phone.
it sounds like an incompatible cable.
this is what i have.

Why don't you try searching for "tv" and see what comes up. Honestly, some of you just love to complain.
I'll apologize for the comment regarding searching this forum since obviously search doesn't work well if at all. I know the answer was there because I answered it. However, a general google search on vibrant tv out has the answer on the very first result. A little effort before cluttering up the forum with repeat junk is a good thing. Granted it's not as bad as the endless froyo threads!
zune cables work well

Phone stuck on USB/charging... very weird

Hey there. I have my Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) for about a month, and since a couple of days ago it has been behaving very weirdly about USB and charging.
First of all, the phone thinks it has USB connected at all times. When I go to the settings menu try to enable mass storage it says USB is already connected, even though it isn't!!!
Sometimes when I start the phone it goes to that USB Kies screen and says "connected", when absolutaly no cables are connected AT ALL!!!
When I turn the cell off, remove the battery and plug it back in, without turning the phone on, the recharging battery icon appears, but blinks with a drained battery icon with a yellow exclamation sign and a thermometer which I sincerely have no idea what that means.
It also takes ages to recognize the power charger or when I really connect the USB cable. And finally, when I take them off, it also takes a while to "perceive" they're off and remove the charging lightning from the battery icons.
PRETTY PLEASE, SOMEONE HELP ME OUT, as I don't have time to take the phone to service, and didn't really want to do that
Thanks!!!
This has also happened to me and loads of other SGS2 users! Although usually it only happens sporadically and not constantly. It seems that it's a bad soldering job or dust/dirt has gathered in the microUSB port. You might be able to fix it, if you're *really* careful.

Last night my phone wouldn't even start charging, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. With the smallest screwdriver I could find, I carefully 'lifted' the tiny PCB in the USB jack while blowing in at the same time. Sure enough, some sand particles fell out, and I haven't gotten carmode'd in nearly 13 hours now. Previously it would do it once every 15 minutes. So far so good, it seems.

Thanks for the help... but what is PCB? Is it the connector inside the "hole"?
Tried that and it stopped thinking USB was connected the whole time... on the other hand, it doesn't detect when I connect the USB cable
Lets try keeping 1 thread

You can't talk on plural when you only point out one thread. And I've read that, but it isn't the same as my phone doesn't go in "car mode".
My phone's problem only resembled a problem JaX3RiR briefly mentioned in the middle of the thread.
I tried googling it before posting anything anywhere, but couldn't find anything useful.
Please don't try to look like a smartass like that and embarrass yourself. If you got nothing to add to the thread, it's best if you sit out of it. It's much more appreciated when helpful people like JaX3RiR post...
Hi,had the same problem, tried reflashing back to original firmware, but still had the same problem,,the only way i could boot the phone was through recovery mode,(reboot)Had to send phone back for possible repair??cut a long story short they sent me a new phone,,They said they couldnt repair the fault, something to do with the usb charging system,,So i would advise anyone with this specific problem,to send phone back, and get a replacement..hope you get it solved
Thanks mate, I sent mine today as well... I hope they act the same with me, as I'm afraid customer service around here always tries to incriminate the user not to use the warranty...

There is no reason to be angry, I'm just trying to help, and just wanted that we all post in one thread, so it would be easier to track later.
I just posted longest thread. Here is another one if it helps to justify:

I'm pretty sure you have the same problem. Sometimes Vlingo starts, sometimes phone thinks its charging, when trying to boot it shows battery image and won't boot, can boot only recovery and do restart from there.
Get of the high horse when people are trying to help you.
Are you sure you didn't connect USB cable upside down or bended USB port with the cable?
I have no idea what Vlingo is, and obviously I didn't connect the USB cable upside down. I don't think I bended the port with the cable since it still recognizes the cable for charging or booting and going directly into Kies mode, for example.
I am not on any high horse when people try to help me, as you could see my response towards the guys above. Your post wasn't sounding helpful at all, you were just sounding like "hey, you dumass noobie, don't open a new thread for yourself, check the forums first".
By the way, I also took a look at that thread you posted before posting mine, but I have no idea what is "car mode" on my phone...
Sorry if I sounded rough. I thought it is similar issue, so I posted link to longer thread. I had this issue myself.
Peace. Let us know what the service say .
This happened to me one week ago while on holiday....that temp indicator while charging plus the other stuff you mention....
Plus the phone went into flight mode and won't come out....
Got home and did a reset and phone now doesn't recognise sim card...
great phone but I'm a little disappointed

Hello,
Had the same problems aswell, only mine had a bunch of other problems aswell:
When I shut down my mobile it restarts itself and then shows a yellow exclamation mark with an tempgage. Only way to turn on my phone is to connect it with the charger, turn of my phone again, remove the charger and then the phone turned itself on again but without the temp gage.
My phone also thinks its charging when it is not, and when I am actually charging it, its not charging.
Also my PC does not recognize my phone so I am not able to update it.
I have also sent my phone for a repair, I will keep you guys posted.
greets from the netherlands
Yep, mine only got fixed by going into service. It got its mainboard warranty switched.
T- Mobile sent me a replacement phone
They seemed to know the symptoms when I explained what was happening
Same fault for me. Mainboard replaced, works fine now.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
How did you guys get it fixed? Did you have to ship the phone out somewhere? How long did you have to wait to get it back? What was the process?
Thanks.
Mine is going to be repaired in two weeks.
I was the 8th SGS2 since tuesday which came in the repair center.
The repair guy said it is a manifacturing fault.
The phone gets hots, and outside temperature is cold, so it makes moisture in the phone.
This cause the phones power management to get fu up (SGS2 has a small battery inside of it, and that gets fu up). Only fix is replace hardware, but 9 of 10 times Samsung gives the fault to the customer. They say it has water damage and can't be fixed in warrenty...
I'm going to write a huge article about it, and I hope it will get published by a lot of site's soon. Phones he admitted having the problem: SGS1, SGS2 and SGSN.
I charged my GS2 2x by USB and it's discharged faster than by the sector
The USB power isn't enough for charge up the GS2 correctly
Are you guys suffering from rapid battery discharging, i have all of the above symptons but my battery drains within hours...I`ve even bought a brand new battery off ebay that is exacly the same issues... I`d like to send it back to O2 but i`ve rooted and flashed custom firmware...
