[Q] YABD: Non-working touchscreen. - HD2 General

YABD - Yet Another Broken Digitiser.
A couple of months ago my hd2 decided it didn't like me anymore and wouldn't respond to touch input. I gave up on it, but I'm really missing it and have been looking to get it fixed.
I've been looking at digitizers on ebay (non-soldering type)
Could someone who's done this please help me and point out if either one of this is the right kind?

I have the T-Mobile HD2 but am in the UK. From what I've read the T-Mobile version has the "plug-in type" so it should be what I need.

well, just try searching tmous lcd
but the thing is that our device is quite old and there might not be anything left

I've been a few months without my HD2 and got an Infuse to tide me over. My HD2 had the same problem and HTC said repairs would be as high as $160. I bought the glass for $26 thinking that I have replaced one on an Aria, iphone4 and repaired someone else's work on an iPhone4, so this should be cake. I watched every video I could find, got all my tools out and with a few undisturbed hours and a well-lit office, set to work... and totally BORKED my phone. The digitizer ended up separating into a deck of mylar-like cards and reintroduced me to its version of 52 card pickup. Disassembling to the point of the touchscreen/digitizer is easy enough, but that touchscreen/digitizer is a b****! I then ordered another glass & digitizer (not already sealed together) and set about putting those in, and... I am back where I started - with a non-responsive touchscreen. I ended up findin an HD2 on craigslist for $100- in winmo only, the touchscreen is sometimes nonresponsive, but haven't had this issue show up in AmericanAndroid, SD version (yet). If you try to do it yourself, watch every video and get this http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-HTC-HD2...005?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b0ad776d for the TMoUS version.
do NOT use the ones in your ebay links as getting the glass separated from the digitizer is FAR more difficult (yes I used plenty of heat) than anyone lets on.

Well, I had attempted a repair on my hd2 (the international one); which I messed up big time.
After reading that comment, I guess I'll just sell for parts.
Problem is, I'm now in the UK, and getting it from the US means having to pay heavy customs charges on top of buying the phone.

is there a source for parts ? Id like a housing and a very front clear cover
My wiz has general chips and bumps from normal use but the most annoying thing is a couple of scratches on the screen (may be the digitizer or even infront of that) look like from keys in a pocket or similar
I have not been able to find anyone who sells parts, other than battery's. I saw on another thread that some one managed to get a battery cover from HTC Europe.

Although admittedly I am out of stock of wizard casings / housings - I've sold 10 in the last month. I do have battery covers at the moment though with and without the windows logo. And yes, they are original!

May want to look here first... http://www.phonegg.com/compare/12/HTC-Touch-vs-HTC-P3450.html
Your P3050 from Telus is the Vogue(CDMA) while the P3450 is known as the ELF(GSM)
Where the digitizer may be concerned they may be the same, but the phones are completely different while a search on EBay for "P3050 digitizer" came up with 12 hits for the item your seeking
basically, if you have to ask "do you think it will work?" you probably are better off not trying and getting the hardware that fits rather than spending cash on something that may or may not work unable to get a refund and having to spend more to get the right item to start with...
Im assuming your asking this as you already attempted to go to the Telus location near you and dealing with them and or your insurance ( you DO have insurance on delicate electronic equipment that has a high degree of gravimetric interface issues (aka gets dropped and broke easy) LOL

No it won't work... They both use different D-pads

That's a very good price. Jump on it if you need it. When I was looking for them a couple of months ago I couldn't find one for less than $50. Of course, that price included a case that I didn't need...
About that ebay link
Ironically, I JUST bought that same digitizer from that same ebay seller this week, and installed it last night. I have an HTC Touch from Sprint, but this new digitizer worked perfectly. Right fit, easy to connect. Took 4 days to get the item from the time I bought it. Couldn't recommend them more.

I don't know what Telus' warranty is, but I suggest getting a replacement.

[Q] G1 digitizer replacement

After a dip in the sink my G1's touchscreen does not respond. The phone otherwise appears to be working, though that's a little hard to judge when you can't get past the touchscreen pattern.
So I guess the digitizer needs replacing. I've look at the steps for that task and think it may be beyond my comfort level. Any suggestions on getting this work performed at a reasonable cost?
Look on the Craigslist for a used G1. Should be able to pick one up for $80 - $100 depending on condition. At this point it will be cheaper to just get another G1 then try to repair yours.
There is another option
As for me, i`ve ordered a new digitizer from ebay (it costs $20-$30 there) and replaced it by myself. A little bit tricky in disassembling and further assembling - but if you have a service manual (i can supply you with it) - it quite easy. I can help you with any advice upon that.
Also I`ve replaced the whole case (or it can be called housing) of my G1 - so i can tell you about it too.
Are us selling the service manual

My HD2 (PIC)

I saw the videos on how to fix it yourself, im not sure if i would be able to do it. Well my friend cracked the screen and HTC charged 185 to fix it for him. But i have smashed the screen and the housing also (btw, Ford Explorer ran over it)im sure it would be 250 or something. Im not sure if its worth spending so much money on this phone.
Phone is turning on and works fine, i can even get calls but can't pick the calls as touch screen won't work. Just the glass and housing needs to be replaced.

Does anyone know any repair shop in NY or any place which would be cheaper than HTC? Thnx guys,
ouch. That's painful to even look at. I'm no expert or anything, but i think if a heavy SUV ran over it then it must have crunched the components on the inside. I'd say it's not worth it because you can find a used one for around the same price (probably)
Well amazingly its a sturdy phone, its ringing when someone calls me, its getting the text msgs, alarm went on in the mrng. Everything seems to be fine, besides the touch interface not working and of course physical damage.
Need to find one with a dead or faulty motherboard then do a swap job. Would not want to pay repair centre cost but worth doing yourself if can find a cheap donor device ...

Well i did find the housing for $20+ online and glass with digitizer for around 90 on ebay (US Seller). Its just that its too much work and probability of messing it up is very high
You need a whole device as donor really as I suspect you will find a few less than perfect parts & having a spare of everything will prove invaluble & also allow you to recoup some cost by selling unwanted parts individually.
Only worth it if can pick up a real cheap bricked HD2.
Full strip & rebuild is not too hard, most horrors are people stripping touch & LCD panels or those who strip the device like a hungry bear opening a jar of honey. A bit of knowledge & a delicate touch is a must on HD2.
I smashed mine a few months back sold it on xda for £120 and bought a mint condition used one for £190 on ebay

There are assembly and dis-assembly guides for HD2 if you search around...you can also get parts for cheap on eBay, So if you have lot of time you can repair it for yourself

[Q] Should I buy a slightly failing HD2

So I saw a HD2 in a auction site, it is pretty good priced IMO. But the seller says that the screen is working good like for a week but then not working for a day so should i go and buy it. I could change screen/digitizer if necessary.
I've always wanted an HD2 so should I give this one a go?
if the price is really that good & your brave enough to open an HD2 why not! I saw one guy here bought a set of the digitizer+lcd+key pads @$40
just make sure it has a display & it powers on otherwise it could be a different story.:fingers-crossed:
my wife's digitizer has just broken down too & i'm trying to find the keys locally - also trying to find the courage to open up this monster!

Well what did you decide A second hand better one or this one?
I think im gonna buy the second hand one because there is lots of repair instructions on the net and spare parts are not that expensive
Just be careful dismantling it as many things are easily damaged or positioned wrong after less than super careful dismantling & assembly.
Also buy parts wisely & use some spots of polyurethane adhesive as tape alone is a poor job.
At least this way digi job is done thus not future issue & done to your spec ...
I have my hd2 second hand to it is now for 5 months ago ,
I really am happy with it and am a flashocolic
Well, if you're brave enough to take it apart, then why not?
But, please be extremely careful with the keyboard flex cable, not to tear it (Own experience ) It's very vulnerable.
you should definatly buy it if it's cheap.
i've replaced screens and digitizers on mupltiple devices and i can tell you, all you need is a seady hand and concentration
