Can someone with a thinkpad and adb setup/working hop on freenode #android-thinkpad and pull some info for me?
Anything if it helps to root this thing

I have been adding apps to my Kindle Fire and ended up using adb push with no issues, wanted to get adb to see the A500 but no luck, is there an A500 specific .inf setting to add or something else needed for the A500 to work with it?
Nevermind...got it now. If anyone is interested, I had to install the Acer USB drivers and set the device to debug mode.
This should go in Q&A, not in the dev forum. The dev forum is for dev's to post their work.
I received a Kindle Fire as a birthday gift yesterday, and have went step by step through a number of guides to try and root the device to no avail. I'm thinking the problem involves the steps where you do adb kill-server, then adb devices. When I type in adb devices into command prompt It will say something to the effect of 501A005220001 and then beside it, it will say offline. I know I have the correct USB drivers and have edited all the files properly, but no matter what I do it always says it's offline, so when I get to the point where you use SuperOneClick, it will kill the adb server, restart it, then freeze.
Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix this so I can root my device? I would greatly appreciate whatever help I can get!
I found by simply changing which USB port I was plugged into fixed the problem.
Just wanted to let people know but I'm new and the forum won't let me post yet - I've installed the latest ICS CM9 posted in the IceCreamSandwich Development/Discussion Thread and have been able to access my kindle fire via usb using the QtADB software found here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683223
full access with drag and drop - adding and deleting files - complete root access is allowed.
Thought this might help someone and maybe you could let them know.
I'm running windows 7 ultimate x64
Thank you...Slick4747
I am determined to downgrade and root my phone on my own, as opposed to paying someone on CL to do it for me. I just moved from Sacramento, CA to Cleveland, OH and I just got my comp unpacked and connected to the internet.
I Just downloaded SDK w/ all of the platform tools, ect. I have also been reading up on ADB and the appropriate commands. My only problem is my comp isnt recognizing the platform tools. it is located at the root of my C:\. Am I missing something? I was going to post in the development forum, but because I am new I can't. Can someone help me out please? I know I am close.
Thanks
How did you typed the command?
First of all be very grateful you can't post in the development sections because if you did it would only of lead to problems with these hungry users that are always ready to flame someone... Anywho...
Follow this guide to downgrade:
Downgrading
Follow this guide to downgrade and root the phone after that you can flash cyanogen if you want or anyother rom that u chose (((HINT: Black Unicorn Resurrected v4.1.1)))
lol, thanks for the heads up.
Does anyone have a link to a thread that shows step by step what to type and what the correct returns would look like?
The all seem to be a little different, and maybe im just an idiot but its pretty confusing seeing so many different ways to accomplish this
Ok, so I am going to try the wiki way to downgrade and root my phone. Hopefully this works.
Thanks for the help

So you have your platform-tools folder in C:\platform-tools? right?
Go into that platform-tools folder under command prompt, and type adb shell, see if it can detect the device.
Try this thread for adb help:

Thank you guys for all of your help. It worked! My phone is now downgraded back to Froyo. Next is Root w/ S-Off and Cyanogen Mod.
I am not a developer but still able to perform tasks with proper instructions. I would like to hire someone that might be willing to assist me to load a stable mod of Android Lollipop or Kit Kat on my Mojo? I at this point do not have allot of faith that Madcatz will be forthcoming with futher updates for the Mojo? Again any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dude, just look at the mojo developer forum here... Already done

Let me rephrase from above....sorry was not to clear. I would like advice on a good stable mod that addresses allot of Mojo's stock software issues. I may need a mentor in the process because my experience stops at side-loading via adb. Ok so I have downloaded the Mods and software. I take it root is a must first? Can Mojo be rooted with adb or is the cable a must? Also is the adb command structure the same or close in Umbuntu Vs Windows? I in a short time have gone from Apple and Microsoft to Linux and Android? For the first time since DOS I have no Microsoft devices in my house The Bad I mostly feel clueless!!! I know this is elementary to you folks and I appreciate all your patience.
Ah ok. Rooting first i believe is needed to get twerp installed. Mojo explain how to root on their own site. I've never worked with adb over a network so I can't help there, I just used the cable and my windows PC, from there the guides in the developer section couldn't be more straight forward but alas you'll maybe need someone more offay on adb rules etc than me to aid you with your adb without the cable etc.

Welcome to freedom!
Do want you can with your hardware and software!
TMK, you need the male-male USB cable, for installing the recovery.
Then from recovery you can install the rom.
TMK, it's the same in windows and linux.
Tip: if your more comfortable on windows, use windows, don't add more complexity
Edit: If your going to pay anyone for help, it should be the dev of the rom @Unjustified Dev
