LTE Nexus coming to Sprint! WooHoo! - EVO 4G General

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...sibly-blows-sprints-biggest-ces-announcement/
Still a rumor of course, but the advertisement for their hopeful announcement at CES is awesome!
I love my Evo, but I've been waiting for this. LTE is just the icing on the cake. I imagined a Wimax version of the Nexus rather than an LTE one. Pretty cool.

They've already said the nexus may be available by the end of quarter 1; also, I love how the ad shows it at 1.5 GHz, when its 1.2Ghz.

They could...but they'd have to be pretty ballsy.

Yeap, I am also waiting on sprint next android that has lte and this may be it if HTC doesn't release anything this year.

By the time the nexus hits us it will be too late something cooler will be out
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk

I really really want the Nexus but I was afraid when Verizon got an exclusive something like this would happen.. We would get the phone 6 months too late..
Grrr!! So the latest and greatest wont be so latest and greatest by the time this sees the light of day on Sprint..
I can't afford $500+ phones anymore so I have to do them when I sign a new contract. So I want the absolute latest thats available at the time..Not some 6 month old phone..
I dunno maybe I am being unreasonable..Might as well wait for the SGS3

The chip is stock at 1.5 GHz, they downclocked it when they put it into the GNex, all they have to do it let it run at stock, it's really not that uncommon.
I personally would probably be downclocking it to around 1Ghz myself just to save battery, even 1.2 seems like overkill to me.

Oh I know...I'm in electronics...but I figured Sprint might try 1.5 to entice people to buy it. And 1.5GHz is massive overkill, but great for gaming, ect.

I think he meant more of a dual band, where it could be potentially changed via OTA, to get more people behind the nexus, because sprint KNOWS people want it.

Most exciting phone at ces

I didn't follow CES as much as I wanted to so I'm wondering in your opinions what is the most exciting phone coming in 2011? I just saw specs for the atrix and I'm impressed. I hate at&t but when it cones out on March I might have to go with it. I didn't see where sprint was getting anything. Anybody jumping on the attic in March? Thanks for the responses.

sprint didnt really announce anything but there is a conference from Sprint at the begining of next month with another "industry first". so well see
Yea its a 1.2GHz triple core HTC Device running 2.4 and 2 1080 cameras that also works on sprints "industry first" 5 G network ......and YES u can F*ck iT.
Who cares about phones?
Sprint is getting David Blaine at this Febuary event... David Blaine !!! Lol
Maybe they got him cause only magic will get froyo on our phones.

5G, I'll expect a $50/mo data surcharge with a network that isn't available in my area.
Maybe sprint is gonna announce a fully functional froyo for the epic, a first for the galaxy s

And yeah the atrix is pretty much what I expected the Nexus S to be. Gingerbread had no business being released on a rehashed galaxy s. They shoulda just pushed gingerbread to all n1 owners (which was the point of getting that phone in the first place.) And then got 2.4 out on the NS or whatever nexus it would've been if they would've waited. Perhaps a "Nexus Duo" or something since they didn't want a nexus 2

Yeah, the Nexus S is gonna be a complete and udderly waste of google's time with the outs of the dual core phones with HDMI and an actual SD card slot. Not sure what google was thinking with the Nexus S, but I'm thinking they didn't want developers ****ing with their hardware with those kind of restrictions.
Just read more.info on the atrix and I just told my wife we are going to at&t. I hate at&t.but damn I want that phone on March 1. Atone know what the price is for the.phone yet?

I wasn't aware that the numbers were this low. I would think that this would be something that Google would be concerned with because eventually this could hurt the growth of Android. Marketing is a powerful thing and if Apple and Microsoft are in some way able to get into the heads of the masses. You know how powerful marketing can be even when it's just trying to spread FUD. The company that I work for has BB as the "corporate standard" but because we purchased several other companies in the past year that standard has been loosened a bit because of the high number of iPhone users at the other company. There are only two of us in the IT Department that have Android and with what I see going on I still don't feel comfortable pushing Android. The first time there was an issue I know that my CIO would use it as the reason why we shouldn't use Android and that would be the end of that.

Sprints been at a true crossroad the last couple months on commuting to a 4G technology Wimax or LTE.
99.9 % chance it will be LTE by the looks thus chip plays a big factor.
I don't think there is a dual chip available yet that can play both so it will be interesting.

From what I understand a switch from WiMax to LTE is just a firmware update, so my guess is the chip included would just require an update and there you go, WiMax to LTE on your phone now.

True firmware can be done on tower but not on current wimax chips so they would have to use muti capable.
Anyone have a clue on such chip being available?

A 3D phone? Meh. And by the time this "nexus s 4g" will be released it will be a 6 month old android phone with a single core processor and no expandable storage. Give me a break.
Glad I have not used my upgrade yet. This should be Epic, It has to be.

From what I understand on the subject, the WiMax chips in our phones aren't and can never be compatible with LTE. The infrastructure (network, towers) is compatible with a radio or controller swap but the WiMax chips in the phones are not.
That being said, I would disagree and put it at a 99% probability that whatever they release will be WiMax. LTE would be a better option but I would be very surprised to see them moving to that now, maybe in a year or two.
I had a feeling they were going to have big news. Two things that drive me nuts about Sprints tendencies are their propensity to go with physical keyboards (Epic) and chrome rims around the phone which I think are very ugly (Touch Pro, EVO Shift). If they release a Nexus S, just the way it is but with the addition of 4G, that would be a very difficult device to turn down.

As i said in another thread,if all sprint did was just add 4G to the current nexus S,it will be a huuuuge flop.
If they don't bump the hardware specs i.e. a dual core proc,s'amoled plus,1080p video and true HDMI,this phone will be dead on arrival.

Because not everyone needs all the bells and whistles. The average consumer doesn't even know what a core is, let alone why they need two to (as they will describe it) "make a few calls, play a game maybe and shoot a couple of text messages."

Because by the time dual cores become actually useful to people who don't play with benchmark tests, you are going to need a new phone anyway.

This. If I could survive another year with my Evo I could do so easily with the Nexus S. Seems pretty tempting. Might not be the most epic of upgrades ... and no LED notifications / removable storage is pretty silly in all honesty, but its a step up in other manners.

I say when they get ready to launch LTE. Although, I would like to see an HTC version of the Samsung Galaxy Note. Not really into the whole stylus, nor 3D. I just want bigger, faster, more memory. Want to get fancy, include a optical, non-digital zoom for the camera.
I think ICS will make my decision for me. IF the OG EVO can get an AOSP ICS build (with or without WiMAX) I'm going to keep it until I see how Sprint's LTE rollout goes. I'm gonna tide myself over with a Windows 8 tablet when they launch...

I am definitly getting it if it comes out in march and giving my epic to the gf as i am never getting rid of my epic
She will be happy with it
As tempting as it is, I know there will be a quad-core phone with much higher specs by the time I'm eligible for an upgrade in early June.

Lol you and your quad core phones Acer. Meh I don't really care about upgrading, maybe if the GS3 looks good, I won't get a Nexus ever I think. Too much hype don't care for getting early upgrades either, plus TouchWiz isn't that bad and is said to be getting better and less intrusive. So even with no developement id still enjoy it.

One thing I'm not clear about is whether these new LTE phones will be compatible with "phase 2" of LTE on Sprint...I don't have the exact terminology but it's when they drop the frequency and further optimize the towers in their overall Network Vision plan. Will that require a whole new type of phone radio or not? May make a purchasing decision easier, although I don't plan on not upgrading before 2013/2014 either.
I was very close to VZW GNexus due to my general dissatisfaction with Sprint's service, but the latter improved and I actually use my HW KB a lot. So no GNex for me, waiting for CM9 on Epic (although if Droid 4 has the right specs and an unlocked bootloader, it may just sway me)
I'll wait for the next one with a keyboard!

Honestly, I want to get it but the Sprint service where I am at is terrible. I am out of contract and will soon be making the hop over to AT&T or Verizon. I can get a better deal with AT&T but sadly they don't have any phones I'm crazy about. Verizon has the GN and LTE in my town.
