Buy the Evo 3D and root it. Problem solved.

Mm OK I ma wait to see what it has to offer I just hate to wait for updates and yes roms like cm7 can save us and stuff, but I found them unistable some times, stock sense is slow but is a stable as it gets never ran into a problem in stock sense, I like all roms like MIUI and cm7 but at the end I keep going back to sense because I need something stable a reliable that's y I was thinking of nexus s , is rock android and it should be stable from the get go, I wonder if hotspots will be free?

I won't survive the next 12 months without a dual core phone so the choice for me is obvious.

I'm going with the 3D. Nexus S is a sexy looking phone, but my Evo has served me very well and with the specs on the new version....... I'm drooling.

Edit: Then again, I forgot hotspot works free on the Nexus line

Because not everyone needs all the bells and whistles. The average consumer doesn't even know what a core is, let alone why they need two to (as they will describe it) "make a few calls, play a game maybe and shoot a couple of text messages."

Because by the time dual cores become actually useful to people who don't play with benchmark tests, you are going to need a new phone anyway.
Having said that, I'll probably wait for quad core phones before I upgrade.

I said before and I will say it again. The Nexus is not really an upgrade for us Evo users. Not IMHO. If I am going to get an upgrade it has to be just that...an upgrade. Not just slightly better. I am looking for something that will be like going from the Hero to the Evo gap upgrade. I was not ever impressed with the Nexus S.

This. If I could survive another year with my Evo I could do so easily with the Nexus S. Seems pretty tempting. Might not be the most epic of upgrades ... and no LED notifications / removable storage is pretty silly in all honesty, but its a step up in other manners.
Too true about the tablet, too. I want a Xoom but not sure I even really need it at the moment. Was thinking about using some of the return on one but I'm not too sure. Time will tell. Hope the Evo3D is cool, don't doubt it'll be a beast.

I really want this phone. I was hoping they would add a MicroSD slot. That may be a deal breaker for me....

Exact copy of the GSM Nexus S except for the CDMA/EVDO/WIMAX
Fromg the google blog:
It features a 4” Contour Display designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand and along the side of your face. It also features a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, front and rear facing cameras, 16GB of internal memory, and NFC (near field communication) hardware that lets you read information from everyday objects that have NFC tags.
In addition, today we’re excited to announce that Sprint customers will soon be able to take advantage of the full set of Google Voice features without changing or porting their number.

Because its a Google supported phone / Google dev phone. All software comes 100% from Google directly. Samsung doesn't touch the software. It will get almost all future updates until the hardware cant handle the software. The Nexus One, which is pretty damn old now, just recently got official Gingerbread, and will likely get Ice Cream.
Yea but what he meant is...
Thanks to the hardware similarities we wont be far behind them in updates so why pay all that money for basically the same phone w/o a keyboard when all these Beastly phones are about to be released it would be a waste to get hardware that is outdated by the time its even for sale 8)
I personally hate physical keyboards now. Mine is just wasted, unused bulk.
True Google software is worth it for me. Dual core CPU's aren't even close to being utilized in smartphones yet anyway. Not until apps/software are written to support them.
The Hummingbird can still hold its own.

why would you want a nexus s 4g?

i dont understand why people would want to switch to the nexus s 4g from the evo. It may be a little more up to date but its just AOSP. Evo can be rooted to AOSP too and many other types. I went over to the nexus s forum for t-mobile and all it is is aosp roms and it looks boring. I know it has a very nice screen and i like keeping up with the latest phones but i feel like thats not a big enough reason to switch, i see everyone drooling over this thing and i dont know why
Im board with the EVO
They convinced themselves it's better than a evo3d. And it's smaller so it fits in their purses/manbags better
I got two upgrades so I'm getting both, and yea it'll fit perfectly in my "European shoulder bag".
its a satchel.

We don't know if it is or not. Shouldn't make assumptions.
only reason id get 1 is cause the updates come straight from google.
Look on the bright side, it'll get me out of the evo forums.
1. Why do you care so much?
2. The Nexus S has had a fully working 2.3 ROM since December. CM7 is still not as stable, and just recently ironed out some major basic bugs. This will be the case for pretty much every major Android release.

The reason I would like a Nexus S 4g is because it's AOSP and it gets updates straight from google. I love my Evo 4g but I'd like fully working AOSP. No waiting for updates from a manufacturer. That is worth it in my view.

[Q] So the Nexus S 4G comes out May 8th

How will this help us epic users on may 8th?
The answer is still: We will have to wait and see how the source code from the Nexus is useful, which depends on which hardware elements it shares with our Epics.
Uh, well is someone going to supply an epic dev with what they need?

Or someone who's happy with they'd phone but hates the bugs. Hardware wise both phones may share the same cpu and gpu but everything else is better in the nexus s. Like the gps chip for one. While I do prefer the epic 4Gs looks the nexus a is a better handset in the end. I'm tired of constantly searching for that "perfect" rom. A pure google experience is the closest thing I can think of.

Don't think the Nexus is without its problems, from what I've read the screen seems to be very susceptible to cracks thanks to the curved shape and there is a bug with the messaging app that sends to thewrong recipient.

I don't see why you need to be insulting people who want to get a Nexus S 4G. It seems like a good phone for someone who wants to have the latest android releases immediately available to them. My wife is probably getting the Nexus S 4G as an upgrade from her HTC Hero. The main reason is that she loves CM7 on her Hero and I can't guarantee her CM7 (or future CM releases) on any other phone for sprint. You calling her stupid or in your words "nobody smart" is pretty ridiculous on multiple levels, but mostly because her reasons for getting the Nexus are sound.

That bug wasn't Nexus specific, it was common to android. One of the developers at Google made a blog post about it a while ago.
Yes, i see your point for CM7 on the Nexus...

Along with its HUGE Dev community and CM7 pretty much already guaranteed for it....

Yes the 3D is a gimmick but the specs of the phone is so tempting.
GS2 will be out like 2-3 months after and i don't see them getting updated till next year by sammy because we all know how that goes....

When I get a new phone....hopefully...soon, I'm not real sure what it will be. The Nexus just feels AWESOME in your hand but I'm used to the slide out keyboard. The GSII sounds awesome as well but we saw how the support was on the Samsung side plus TW makes development SO much more difficult.
The Nexus S 4G isn't really a step forward like the GSII or the EVO 3D will be. It would also be hard to leave the SAMOLED screen for Super LCD/TFT. Decisions...Decisions...
Been using a 3 years old Palm Pre and have been amazed at how it just works. The specs of the HP Pre 3 look to be pretty solid. I love how emails works correctly on the Pre. I hate the unreliability of email polling on Android in general.

All true, but i'm still waiting to see the power of the battery and it's internal storage. The only major things i like about this phone is that it's pure android and that it will release with ICS. If the battery is weak and the internal storage is low, i'm either get the SGSII or wait til something else comes out, cause i got a feeling the Galaxy Nexus is gonna be waaaaaay overpriced for pretty much the same specs as the SGSII, but with ICS(which is nice, but i can wait for the release on the atrix or SGSII) plus it's goin to Verizon first and i'm with At&T soooo........

i don't have a problem with the camera being 5mp, now with the processor stratax cleared that up for me, but no sd card slot, and a 1750mAh battery is gonna disappoint a lot of people just like the nexus s, which is a great phone but could've been better with an sd card slot for people like me that store a lot of music, videos, etc on their phone. My atrix replaced every other device i had(ipod, digital cam, psp) with the 48gbs it holds. But i do believe the Galaxy Nexus will be a great device, just missing a few things

as for the camera that is true, mp are marketing pretty much. software can make it look better than 99% of 8-12mp cameras out there. hahaha there is no sdcard slot? so many people didnt get the nexus s because of that. you'd think they would learn.. that is the same reason i didnt get the sensation because of low storage. i use my atrix as the same. most of it is music and games lol. which takes up a ton. how can a company make a entertainment device with low storage -_- unless it has like 64gb of storage i wont be happy with it. maybe 32 would be fine but still, im sure it will be expensive.
Am I wasting my time thinking AT&T will subsidize the version with their bands?

WP7 is on the lead with actually updating their phones and crap and have good hardware requirements without fragmentation. i know that technology gets updated fast blah blah. its just crap what google does lol. i like the big leap they are taking, but they need to AT LEAST update ICS on all the dual core phones that have been released. that would be pretty sweet

Reported that all devices currently running Gingerbread will receive ICS... just a matter of when... remember, Moto has to put their Motoblur crap in it first.

Not receive. Support. IE their hardware is enough to run 4.0. There is 0 guarantee they will get ICS.

The biggest thing wrong with that video, "TWO HANDS!"
Even when that thing was in landscape, I couldn't tell if he was holding the Nexus or a PSP. (Although ICS does look nice)
Finally what is it with Nexus phones and lack of ext SD cards lately?... *shrug*

hey all just wanted to put this out and keep it alive so instill some hope in our hearts that samsung will reease the d705 to sprint soon i cannot wait by the way to see this phone released now this is just a rumor i doubt its correct it was a comment on one of the sites talking about the cellbrite systems thing so supposedly samsung went back to the drawing board and they SUPPOSEDLY emphasis on the supposedly (i dont want people riding my @** about it) its gunna be an exynos 2ghz dual core slider phone.....i say theres a 40/60 chance samsung will do this 1 because theyre focusing on all touch phones and 2 because ..... well idk number someone else can fill in that blank hahaha but any ways heres what i do know the epic will feature an 8 mp camera( back) and a 2mp (i think) on the front 4 inch super amoled + screen and gorilla glass it looks like an aluminum backed phone and the shape is basically .... a fascinate with a keyboard thats all the information i can find on it beleive me i did my homework i researched for days on this thing so if theres any one who either wants to confirm or deny the info i have above please do oh and please post your excitement in this thread i ilove hearing about people freaking out aout the atest releases =D

I am definitely excited for this device, though a 2ghz dualcore doesn't seem possible in the "near" future to me, since the Epic 4g touch just came out, if they released something so powerful there wouldn't be reason to buy it right? Course the Galaxy S3 is coming so I guess you never know lol. I'd be happy with any frequency dual-core, long as it has a nice keyboard .

Qualcomm had began production on 2.6Ghz chips and we should see them in cell phones by 2013 sometime.

It needs a 4.6" display, not another 4" like we have.
Samsung pretty much ruined my first "smart phone" experience after i educated myself and realized how evil they are when it comes to staying ahead of the curve on updates. If it wasnt for dedicated devs, our phones would be pretty basic.

Ooops thanks by accident. without any updates this phone woulda still been better than all other phones and still be competitive with phones that are coming out now. You really need to take a look at the quality of phones. Other phones might as well be brick right out the box. Samsung didn't ruin your smartphone you did.
@op <here's your flaming> was the other samsung epic 2 thread not good enough for you to post this in? Before you ask yes someone pissed in my cheerios!

Sent from my CM9'ed Epic4g! Wanna fight about it?
I love the original Epic and as long as it doesn't break, I could wait for the Epic 2. I thought I would be over the slider keyboard by now, but I'm really not and I know my wife will want to stay with the slider after her Epic needs replacement.
