ICS roms and updates seem to be constantly released. I've not tested one since the very first release. But now there's ~5 different releases. If anyone has tried them all, is there one that's particularly stable or good enough for a DD?

So far the Camera doesn't work among other things, but I think it's a good place to start to have a feel of what ICS would feel like on our phones

I would have to say Quattro. Its too smooth I ran it for about two days but I was missing FM radio. I would suggest give it a spin.

Hands down, Quattro
For me, none of the available ICS ROMs.
I appreciate the great effort of all the devs but having a dd without a working camera is not an option.
I gave Andromadus beta 8 a go last night. Got to admit, I'm not liking the new look. My problem is just with the recent apps list. on gb, i use it constantly as it holds all the apps i ever use so i never have to go searching through the app list. But the new version is a lot of effort having to scroll and manage apps. Plus the app listis annoying itself having to swipe horizontally. i assume I'd need to change launchers for that. Oh well, back to gb it is.

Have tried the Virtous Quattro beta, and its really great looking at this stage. A shame the camera is so hard to get working. Except from the missing camera, this ROM can IMO easily be used for everyday use at the current stage.
+1 for Quattro....Beta 3 is rockin....

I'm guessing that you are referring to the keyboard back lights, these currently only work when you have automatic brightness enabled.
I have the same graphical glitches occasionally, a temporary fix is to manually stop the launcher in system settings.
None of them. Honestly it's frustrating for us users when the updates are once every 2 days, and we have to deal with constant reflashing of roms + all the random errors that will occur.
Just be patient and wait for CM9.
I tried Quattro and there were graphical glitches among other things.
ILWT, anyone?
I tried andromadus an quattro. But none has a well performance and all drained to much battery. On my Opinion you should wait for a final release, not trying all these alpha-beta version

I have tried several ICS roms over the last few weeks. LOADS of updates and alpha/beta. Basically I've been enjoying seeing the dev's work develop. I've tried
Taz's desire z port
Andromadus
Flemmard's original betas which became part of virtuous quattro
I've not tried every revision of these but almost!
With all I have been going back to my highly tuned very stable virtuous affinity DD but I am now on Quattro genuinely as a DD. It is very smooth and stable. With beta 6 I am struggling to recreate the graphical glitches that have been an issue. The features being added are all useful and add something to the rom. Overall very impressed.
Obviously no camera yet and yep almost daily updates is to be expected with betas but that's part of the fun!
Interesting to see what the virtuous team do to distinguish their rom if/when CM9 is released on vision. Unity/Affinity had a substantial userbase due to their super slick/smooth 'almost stock to look at' sense based roms. I don't envisage htc releasing a sense ics for vision so they will have to produce something virtuous from a pure android ics - looking forward to it.
Currently using Virtuous Quattro as my DD. Running quite well for me.

I have been on the cm7 RC for about a month now. However its really not running optimally. I getting tired of the naggs. So I nandroid restored to my backup to cm6. Man what a difference. Nope. Not here. Still on rc2 and I'd say its stable enough. I didn't think cyanogen would even go this far on rc.
Edit: I've found one unstable thing on my n1. The sense preview lags and choppy.

Yes froyo is miles smoother than cm7 and ginger bread stock. Scrolling apps, lists, webpages, everything is by far smoother on froyo. Makes a tough decision which ROM I want to run:-(

i find cm7 RC4 to be extremely good on battery. i can go 12 hours and still be at 60% rather easily. but i just find RC4 laggy and choppy. try loading a tapatalk thread with 30 posts, and scroll that sucker. now try it on froyo, its like a totally different phone, one's smooth, one's chunky as hell.

People face choppy scrolling because they don't wipe properly when coming to a new rom. Its a know fact that when you switch a rom, you've to wipe atleast 3 times before flashing the new .zip.
This is simply because, 80% of the first wipe doesn't wipe at all. ( both Amon_RA and CWR)
Always wipe 3-4 times and you'll never face the choppiness issue on any CM Roms.

Got tired of plain Android and CM7 wonks and other CM7/GB bugs, and tried Sense-based Froyo. What a difference. Going to stay there until (hopefully) a fully functional Sense GB port will be out.
What's the most stable Sense UI ROM?
eViL's NXSense 1.26. It's the only fully functional Sense ROM, unfortunately.
If you don't mind not having native hotspot capabilities - you can also install Desire HD ports (MM SuperHybrid 1.7 and eViL's 1.1beta).

i use launcher pro exclusively for the last 10 months or so...paid version. it is smoother for sure. but my scroll issues are ont necessarily home screen related. load any tapatalk thread, and it scrolls in chunks. handcent text items in a long list scrolls in chunks.
another bug in cm7, if you have battery text shown in the status bar, once you plug in to charge, after 20 minutes the homescreens become super laggy and skip. this continues until charge is complete, or you unplug. or if you turn off the percent text, scroll returns to normal smooth. i looked at the source code, and this new implementation is different than cm6 battery percent text version. seems using broadcast receivers, etc, or possibly the animation speed, is causing this issue.
i may edit the source to turn off batt percent when plugged in, since that's how cm6 functioned, and see if that fixes it. but i've been lazy pulling down the source.

interesting - what was it?, is there a thread that discusses the fixed issue? would be worth rooting for, i'm on stock gb and was thinking of going back to froyo cuz of battery issues.
I have been using CyanogenMod for a while now, but I want to give Sense another try. I have a couple quick questions.
- Are there any Sense ROMs that are a fairly decent balance of fast and stable? I can deal with the occasional force close if the ROM is significantly faster than another, but I'd say stability is more of a priority to me.
- I don't particularly like the Sense People and Calendar apps (I've found they're a bit slower than the AOSP apps). Can I just install the AOSP versions without major stability issues? If yes, would the Sense dialer still be able to pull from the AOSP Contacts app?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I omitted one thing. I'd say that stability is the most important aspect, followed by battery life. I know battery life is mostly determined by the kernel. Can anyone recommend a good Sense kernel as well?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I would try WarmZ 2.2 or Incredibly Re-Engineered both of those are sense 2.0 and are stable and fast. I liked both. But it's up to you!
Kernel wise, the kernels they come with worked great for me.

Z ROMs are nice, and quick, but there's been a spattering of reports on phantom calls and reboots. Hence, I would not say they are fully stable and dependable. There are also some quirks when using some apps (e.g. swype keyboard).
In my experience, you need to stick with 100% incredible framework if you value stability and reliability. I am a huge fan of both IncROM and Magnolia. They are both very fast in my book, and everything works out of the box, so to speak. When SR 4 hits in a few days it may be great as well.
To your question about contacts...
No, you cannot simply install AOSP versions onto a Sense ROM. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've used Synergy and MikG a lot. They are pretty much the same except Synergy has the updater, and an effin ton of themes + mods, but I feel like it's a little bit slower than Mik. Also Mik sees more updates.
Synergy is great so far! Love the stock gb with the settings shortcut in the notification menu. Custom synergy update is great too. Although I haven't seen any updates yet. Everything else seems fine. Used Sinister for a while. I Sinister is fast and while the 3d home screen integration is nice, I think it used a little too much memory. I got the white htc screen too much. I get it almost after every game I play

Neutrino is so smooth, fast and battery +/- the same as DarkSide.
Anyway i've found the DarkSide surprisingly similar about performance. Then mind that if you like to use WebTop or LapDock ROMs based on CM7 as Neutrino haven't these features.
I like Neutrino but it is more like pre-beta stage to me. It takes too much tweaking to get it to act normal. Currently on darkside 2.8 using landscape hdmi support

Whatever one you use that meets your expectations. There are people here that will run ICS without issues, but state they have issues with Jelly Bean or Gingerbread. It is all a matter of what works for you.
That being said, CM7 based ROMs are your best bet. They are the most developed and mature for the device.

If you find Andromadus Mimicry and CM7.2 too slow, than I’m afraid you need a new phone
Minicry might not be 100% stable, but it is pretty close. I think the ICS (or JB) would not be significantly faster even with official HTC kernel (without hacks).
You can overclock your phone and try different governors. This way you can improve the “smoothness” at a cost of battery life. Also be sure you are running ext4 filesystem. And a fast SD card may help too, check if it is at least class 8.
Mimicry flies for me at 1.5ghz
Andromadus test builds with JellyBean are the fastest of all I've tested so far (cm7.*, cm9.*, MIUI, stock sense ROMs etc.). There are some bugs however (in latest build - #71 - for example camera stopped working), but speed, smoothness, and all JB-related-features of this ROM are really outstanding. I believe, that all annoying bugs will be smashed really soon and my G2 will last until new nexus comes out.

Well, it certinaly worked. It took a little longer than expected, I forgot to make a backup . The phone is a lot faster, with no slowdown periods. The only issue I have is mentioned here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842347

How about sense roms?

I'm coming from GB + CM7 rom, is the new JB or ICS much faster and still retain the phone's full functionality? I'm considering changing to Andromadus Minicry ICS/CM9. Currently, there is considerable lag when I just try to open up e-mail or respond to a text msg.
If there is much improvements, I rather just stay with my current build try not fix something that isn't (completely) broken. Is there a good way to migrate current apps over to the new rom? I'm currently running some crack apps that may not be available anymore.

Sense beyond 2.1/3.5(gingerbread) generally speaking is too much bloat for desirez/g2, sense 4.0A would be fine cept its been worsen and slowed down with the 3.0 kernel for sake of a working camera. The full sense 4.0 they took the kernel from is slow to the point of practically unusable on our devices.

Jelly bean still has a bit of work to put into, but there are plenty of fast ICS roms (non-sense) out there with "functional" camera app (post-gb its mainly the camera people complain about)
I've found for me, ICS to be quicker/smoother than stock or CM7.2.
Regarding apps (while I don't condone piracy) titanium backup would be the solution, assuming said apps are compatible with ICS.

If you want sense, flash sense 4.0 by geneysense it thinks the name. And then use romcleaner and flash after you flash rom and its smmoooth
Hmm, for some reason, Mimicry is giving some trouble with my google account syncing. I am trying CM9 now, to se what its like.
Sense rom next!!

PS: "CM9" by Jerl is not CM9 Official (ie: it didn't come from the cyanogenmod people), it's just bout the same (if not worse in my opinion) than Mimicry which is based off Andromadus which is based off Cyanogenmod 9's source. Though if you do try Jerl's port of it, I strongly advise you not to use the 3.0 kernel, too many problems with it and he apparently didn't bother testing it before releasing it (or least didn't bother to tell people the risk).
Far as google account syncing, it depends on whether or not you made sure to flash google apps afterwards, and if you accidently booted prior to flashing it, then you need to make sure to remove all your accounts on the phone then re-add them as it says in the OP of that thread.
