I would try wiping cache and dalvic and reflash gapps.

I've a similar problem, in my case I can't find Google Play, google maps of youtube in my applications list, only google search and google talk. I'm using CM7 by Quarx and I've tried two different versions of gapps, gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip and later gapps-gb-20120404-updated.zip (last one found in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595963), both installed in recovery mode with clockworkmod.
Any help will be welcome.
Thanks.

Are you reflashing the rom along each time you try flashing gapps again?
There's a possibility that there's multiple installs of Market\Play conflicting with each other if all you're doing is wiping cache, wiping dalvik, and flashing gapps -- especially if you're flashing different versions of gapps.
What I recommend is backing up all your important apps data and reinstalling the rom. There's a chance that doing a factory reset then flashing gapps will work, but a fresh install is a better way to go.

Finally worked!!!! I just did what skeevy420 suggested and after I added my google account "voilĂ " google play was there.
Thanks for your help.
PD: I made a clean backup of my stock rom (AT&T), do you think that could be useful to somebody?

Nah, not unless you did something real cool with it that's hard to duplicate. We can just flash the sbf and get the same thing.

if i were you, i would try the cm6 fix. the instructions for this fix or workaround or whatever you want to call it have been posted numerous times in this thread.
thanks for the reply. i did the cm6 install and then loaded nightly 23. GPS was working. worked great but had to download and install all these apps that weren't backed up properly fom titanium and just had to redo the whole phone, contacts, everything. pain in the butt. then i learned that once on a nightly, all you do is wipe cache, diviak and bam....load new nightly. so i went from 23 now onto the new CM7 RC1 without redoing any apps and contacts and what not. awesome. so zervic, your telling me if i do the cm6 fix, i have to do factory reset and do the whole thing over again as in restoring everything? or can i just wipe cache and divack, and install cm6?

incorrect. you do not have to factory reset. the reason for this is because, you take a nandroid backup of your cm7 before you wipe your data, after the install of cm6 you'll be restoring that back up, settings, apps, etc included. I would search to find the exact steps for this "cm6 fix" though...but yea, do not worry about your apps and all that, they will be backed up. also. factory reset from clockwork, not from within the phone (i.e. in the ROM). if you do that, it wipes your SIM too..
I've been rummaging through all of XDA, YouTube and other independent sites to find a simple and comprehensive method to flash Cyanogenmod 10 and CWM Recovery 6.xx.xx on my old Nexus S I9023 but none of the walk-throughs are comprehensive enough. I'm pretty new when it comes to the flashing bit and the horror stories out there about people bricking their devices is quite dissuading.
Can someone point me in the right direction because there is conflicting data out there where some people just format data and cache while others mount drive and format system, data, cache, etc in addition to the previous step. Please help cause I really want to give CM10 a try.
Format system, data, cache, and dalvic cache. Flash the zip and gapps in that order. Enjoy.

hey, just a quick question on the gapps. What is included with the zipped package? Can I not just d/l them from the market?? I flashed the gapps, but it didnt have gmail, maps and all that, I had to get them from the market.. (forgive the noob question, this was the first time I had ever flashed a rom)
Thanks, and sorry for derailing..

gapps let you have all Google services(like Play Store indeed)! For Gmail and Maps you install them from Play Store.

ok, so if I flashed the gapps, and on boot I had google play installed, then it worked? I guess I was expecting there to be all the google apps, but the majority of them are on the market now anyways....

Yes. Most flashable gapps are just those that are built-in and cannot be downloaded via play store.
I have already posted a few guides regarding rooting and flashing for devices like Gnex, Note etc on DroidViews. Tomorrow when I have my NS, I will surely try to write up for this, most probably a screenshot guide with proper step-by-step instructions.

Hi, if you want a simple tool that help you to install driver, unlock, flash a custom recovery, root, backup and later flash a custom rom (remember to do a complete nandroid backup immediately after root!) use wugfresh tool here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
If you want to learn how to flash a custom rom, the procedure is the same for all rom, once you learn one, you can flash all you want, read here:

I just wish to share this app that I discovered in the Play Store. Unlike the CM updater that still would download 100mb+ zip files whenever you're updating, this app will download only the essential parts that were updated from the previous version. For example, in the last few nightlies, it only needed to download around 4mb worth of data from the CM website thus saving me data, time, and hassle. The link to app here: CyanDelta Updater

I had the same problem when I tried Kayant's Slim Bean ROM.
Try clearing cache / dalvik. If it doesn't work, Wipe Data and reflash.
When it still didn't work for me, I moved to another ROM, which solved the issue.
Solved
I Just solved this issue by installing JellyX Kernel Now I have some other problems to solve but thanks for the reply
I related this problem due to using the 4.2 Gapps on 4.1.2
The solution is even simpler:
Go into menu/system/apps and find Android Keyboard (ASOP) and CLEAR DATA. Then do the same for Dictionary Provider and CLEAR DATA.
Wow, good timing...

Thanks for the advice although I can't seem to find the Dictionary Provider app on my ROM. (I'm using Paranoid Android as a custom ROM)
I tried everything, wiping data on phone, wiping cache and dalvik, and clearing data on the keyboard itself. Any help?
I can't do basic tasks like wifi password and such.
EDIT: btw, im using a rogers s3 on cm10 4.1.2

This one worked for me too, on Jelly Bam 7.6.0.
So.... not really sure how to explain this, but I reinstalled Paranoid Android 3.65 with the recommended pa_gapps zip and now my Google apps (mainly the Play Store and Gmail) have a black skin? And I mean a solid black skin, it's not even appealing to me. I can't uninstall Gmail and Playstore and reinstall them, since I'm given no option to uninstall. I also tried reinstalling just the pa-gapps zip, but that did nothing. I also just spent the last few hours getting my phone set back to how it was, so I really wouldn't want to start all over again...
I've added some screenies to show you what I mean exactly. I just want the plain ol' white/grey apps that I'm familiar with. Thanks for your help!
use different gapps. the one you used probably has blacked out apps.

Hmm, that's odd. Back your apps/data in Titanium backup then wipe and reflash the ROM and GApps. After that you can restore your data.
Have you tried a clean install? Wipe data system cache and dalvik then flash your ROM kernel and gapps.

So I was on the stock marshmallow ROM and decided to root and so after that I got a google play service force close error and then it wouldn't let me download Facebook and some other apps. So I wiped clean and flashed pure nexus and flashed the 2.47 (I think it was) Super user root .zip and still same issue. Anyone know why its doing this ? I can't even open Facebook ..it closes and gives me the google play services error.
Edit: now Snapchat instantly closes and says Snapchat has stopped

I tried 3 different Roms and Google play store keeps force closing when I try to install Facebook. If I install Facebook apk from Google it doesn't always open. Are data and cache all you wiped? You should wipe system and dalvik cache too before flashing a ROM. Also, which gapps did you flash?

it will fix his softbricked phone with two clicks, he deosn't need most of what it can do, but its still the easiest way for him to fix it. Let him decide what to do.
This is the xposed version you want to use. I would suggest downloading the factory image and running the batch file in it. Then setting the phone up from there. also use the latest supersu 2.76 from HERE

Easiest doesn't mean best. A toolkit bypasses any learning that's required to keep this from happening again. Plus it's better to know how you're fixing something, a toolkit removes that.
