1. fresh kitchen.
2. kernel source code for the .29 kernel.
3.??
I think it is more for the code guys, because once they release officially then leagally HTC has to release the source (which they probably wont without pestering again) but that will allow the code monkeys (no offence you guys are awesome) to work their magic and get things really improved.
That is a very good question. I am completely happy with what I have now. Fresh 2.0d is, IMO, as good as it gets.

Some of you guys are completely delusional. The official release is going to fix an enormous number of bugs that currently exist in all 2.1-leak-based roms.

im not sure what bugs you are refering to. I have 0 problems with my phone (except when I mess with stuff)
First the OFFICIAL version shouldn't have us running back and forth to FIX little things.
Loading a ROM after the release should be as smooth as say....Fresh 1.1
I haven't had to FIX anything in that ROM and everything works.
My 2 cents is that being able to find the thread you want with the ROM dev you like and then load that ROM would be sweet.
But sifting thru' 200 plus pages and being asked to fix the ROM is weird for me.
Seems the dev would ADD the fix and re-release?.....no?
But like everyone else, I'm waiting for the OFFICIAL release before jumping into making assorted changes which we ALL might have to re-change when the release comes about.
Thanks,
Bubba.

The forums are called 'XDA DEVELOPERS'. If you (not you specifically but in general) are going to ***** and whine because the ROMs you're using aren't 100% flawless...you're in the wrong place. Sit down shut up and wait for the official release. These ROMs aren't perfect, nor are they intended to be...but by and large they're a hell of a lot better than the crap Sprint has consistently put out (both Android and WinMo).
As for 'fixing huge amount of bugs'....umm..I doubt it. I doubt Sprint would even be aware of most of them were it not for developers and testers like those here on XDA.
With the update to 2.1, Hero users will be able to activate an ancient supernatural power known as Voltron. We can either use it to better humanity...or destroy society.... I call dibs on the head.

well i never really had any problems since i rooted and installed the roms that ive gotten from xda (damage 2.0r3 and now 2.07.2) to be honest they have been much more bug free than the stock rom 1.56 that i origionally had. so im sticking with xda and to go back and never be able to root again.... well thats scarry
I mean all the way AOSP? I miss the Roms that were available for my G1...I thought the SenseUI would be awesome to have, but seriously...it actually sucks.
Yeah. There's AOSP 1.6, and DarchDroid is based off of AOSP 2.1. Do a search next time....
an all asop rom is not fully possible yet, theres a few out there but the camera doesnt work and a few other things but thats because they cant fix that until the official 2.1 comes out then we will have our fully aosp, theres darch vanilla, and darch droid, but a few things are missing as i stated above, if you are like me and you want a fully functionable aosp rom just wait until this update comes out then my friend we score, i hate sense, it blows...............ive been waiting for this a long time....dont even bother with the old aosp roms i mean their good but not 100%

Here's the big answer to your question. All AOSP roms ARE possible. They just don't have all the functionality of Sense ROMs. DarchVanilla, or the link in my sig, will get you as close to aosp as you can get without breaking functionality.

And might I add it's all HTCs fault because they won't release the .29 kernel source and their massive amount of modification to it disallows the ability to just port over a .29 kernel as it is... What Android was all about in the first place.

Anyway I was asking myself :
Assuming that almost every member/reader of this forum would have tried at least once to install a custom ROM on their Hero, what to expect from the Official 2.1 update ?
Will I be sticking with it ? Will I wait for Villain/Kimera/other ports ? Assuming also that custom Roms will never be 100% stable...
Because from my experience with custom roms (and I've installed A LOT of them on A LOT of devices), it's allways about finding a compromise between speed and stability...
Yep, it's wednesday morning and I really don't wanna get to work...
I think when this 2.1 update comes out (probably won't happen soon, not even friday, as we all know HTC) this only may help custom modders in the stability of their roms, nothing else I'm guessing.
Wouldn't that be the Sprint Hero anyway?

Hmmmm,.... Well I haven't had the experience of swapping and changing ROMs on my Hero,... But having had it for about 2-3 months now, I'm still 100% happy with the speed and stability of the ROM I flashed to it on day 1, ... MCR3.2. I think I'v had 3 or 4 application force closes, and only had it freeze up forcing a re-boot ONCE!!!
I'm sure the custom 2.1's will be just as stable once we get the official ROM to use as a base.

Yes, I would assume so.
I'm not really looking for a more stable 2.1 rom. I just want the speed that is in the 1.5 roms. Since i've heard the 2.1 should be faster the the previous versions I have high hopes får the official release and that the dev can make the most out of it.

I just really hope the battery life will improve.
Current 2.1 ROMs are already quick and stable enough for me, I wish the battery would last longer though. Aside from that, there are only a few minor bugs in most 2.1 ROMs that are currently out there, which do not really bother me.
Its not the 2.1 ROMS that are the problem its all down to the Kernel, which no1 has!surely if it was coming soon then it would have leaked somehow!

The Dream can barely handle FroYo, I don't know how well it would handle Gingerbread.

yes, CM itself can be set up right for once, then are the OTA roms who are with less things...so they run quite good and ofc the AOSP froyo roms.
What setup is needed for CM to be fast? I don't need any features, just speed. If there's a better FroYo ROM for that I'm open to switching.
Gingerbread on the Dream will happen...I have no doubt about that. The question is how well it'll run. If only the Dream had a little more RAM...

I don't know about that, because I'm pretty sure Honeycomb or whatever they decide to call Android 3.0 has a minimum requirement for 1GHz processor so the Hero, Sapphire and Dream might be out of luck, especially the Hero because they're still stuck with the 2.6.29 kernel. 3.0 might be possible but I doubt 2 yrs of new Android ROMs is plausible.

So seems mostly a go.. will require some poking for a true release but not that bad.
If it's not officially supported in AOSP, does that mean we'll be without camera drivers?

Honeycomb (Android 3.0 or 2.4....who knows) will not require a 1Ghz CPU.
Still don't understand why you people want gingerbread so much. The time it takes to get something that was never intended to even be ran on the G1 was at least a year or so and that was only with eclair and froyo. We can't run a lot of things because of the lack of ram like jit. Everything lacks now, even the gpu.
Please stop with all this silly nonsense about Gingerbread threads and just be patient. I have little faith in the project, as most original devs have completely moved onto different devices which are easier. Not saying the new devs are bad, I'm just saying we lost a lot of veteran support on the G1.
Why not just use something fast on your G1 that won't fry it's sockets after 5 hours of use?

Not only that, look at ezterry's mt3g port of froyo. 2708 radio/kernel + mt3g = hot fastness. Loaded it on two G1s, the gf loves how much faster it is than the other froyo roms we've tried. Probably has to do with the fact ezterry's port is nearly completely stock (it is without the parts update).

Anyway I think 2.3 will be too much for the G1/MT3G to handle, it already struggles with 2.2 so 2.3 is over doing it. Battery will not be very good, as most phones with 2.2 now have 512+ ram as the standard. To get the best experience you'll need faster hw to support the effects,apps,etc...2.1 is the furthest i would go w/ a g1, but 1.6 is where the best perf is. I would go with a new phone if you wanna enjoy 2.3.
p.s. not trying to discourage anyone, just stating facts
Something im sure not just i but many others are wondering, how fast does the g3 actuqlly perform? Of course it may be buggy and what not but is it safe to say that it is much faster albeit having this high resolution?

Be looking forward to running some aosp on the LS990 hopefully soon.
Oh, ok, my bad, I was just trying to figure out what he meant, and I didn't know there were any running builds of aosp, but really, I have no complaints for the g3 as far as speed wise, I froze alot of bloat, and it's not laggy at all, ive heard that the 2 biggest things for lag are the launcher and the keyboard, and I use action launcher and swiftkey, so I froze home and the keyboard app, and this thing had never been faster

Stock LG software isn't that great, I'm working on a speed optimised ROM, you should see it in the LG dev thread soon.
So I don't own a g3 but I do own an lg optimus l90 and have built PAC ROM for it. The camera and Bluetooth are easy. For Bluetooth make sure you have the bluedroid.cfg from stock. And for both make sure you have the dtb set up right. You should usually build both v1 and two of the dtb and combine them using dtb tool. Also on oirs the open_cis dtbs worked better

Protip: before claiming something is 'easy' go ahead and spend a little time trying to do it. There's nothing easy about the camera, at least not in comparison to previous LG devices.
For everyone else, just an FYI: there are two different wifi/bt chipsets depending on your variant.
Broadcom: T-Mobile (D851) and Sprint (LS990)
Pronto: Verizon (VS985), International (D855), AT&T (D850)
We must be sure to include what variant we are using when we report/debug wifi and bt issues because they are quite a bit different.

okay it was simple for me. the issue for those is simple. you need a different build per variant.because the camera is in the dtb so for it to change on chip sets youll neded to changed kernel and dtb so each variant will need a new build (p.s. @invisiblek i like your profile pic kupo)
