I am rooted. Do I have to change any specific files or anything? Or can I just do the "install and then move it to system/apps after reboot, then install again, then reboot" method?

That's pretty much it, just remember to remove it from system/apps after that last install and reboot. It's not intuitive, and not in the first page of the guide on this forum, but if you don't, you'll have to reinstall with each reboot.
Download the 2.36 Apk and install, no copying of files needed to any directory, I'm using it now and its working perfect on Cm7

Here's what I did:
1) Download the installer from your beta email or transfer it from one of your other devices
2) Log in
3) Select your Beta version
4) Install the Swype keyboard
5) Use Root Explorer and navigated to /data/apps and find the Swype apk
6) Move the Swype apk (not the installer) to /system/apps
7) Make sure permissions are rw- r-- r--
8) Reboot your device
9) Long press on a text field, select input method, then Swype
10)When you use Swype it will constantly Force Close
11)Go back into system/app and press install on the swype apk file that you placed there
12)Then delete the same apk from system/app and reboot.

You should be able to sign up on the Swype beta page, if not just pull the apk from a different device.

I couldn't install it from the "Swype Installer" because it kept saying that Swype doesn't support the screen resolution of my device. I pulled the .apk manually and managed to install it just fine. Yay!

That is most likely because you are using ICS rom.
With the modaco custom ROM is very easy follow the instructions previously given and there will be no problem

I've had issues with uninstalling swype for the longest time. Here is the thorough uninstall process for Swype.
Figured it out from another topic. Swype can be installed PROPERLY now. Working great too. Here are the instructions. Just follow them exactly and you're set.
1.Remove libswype from system/lib (using root explorer, or astro. MUST BE ROOTED to be able to remove files)
2.Remove swype.apk from system/app
3.Reboot into recovery, clear dalvik.cache.
4.Install new swype.
NOTE: To access system/lib and system/app you will need a root-based file manager such as Root Explorer. Root Explorer can be found on the market and is very useful all around.
i dont get it... at the end you say install new swype.. i thought you wanted swype gone?
He says that because the DX has version 1.64(?) And the latest is on version 2.15 (I think?). The builtin version can't be upgraded with the normal installer.
Where is version 2.15?
when i try to delete libswype/swype.apk it tells me I can because they're read only. any idea?

I installed the Market apk with the fix last fall, but today I downloaded the new version of Market that brings movie and books to 2.2 or higher and the install failed. Is there a trick to getting this new market on the Archos.

Make sure Install from Unknown Sources is checked in the Applications menu, though I think the message would say this if that was the problem. Then try deleting the market apk from /data/test/froyo/system/app (I think that's the location, look around in there for it), then reinstalling with the downloaded apk. If it still won't install, try copying the downloaded apk to the location you deleted the original market apk from, and see if market shows up again.

I searched using Astro and the only file with market in the name is
/system/app/0MarketUpdater.apk I tried uninstall, no joy. I try long hold using astro to delete, no joy. I went to settings/applications uninstalled gAppinstaller rebooted tried to install the apk no joy. I have no option to uninstall market (system/applications say version 1.82 when I go to details)
so I am open to suggestions on how to update the market app.

You can't mess with anything on /system without root. That's just a shortcut anyways. The file has to be in /data/test somewhere. It could also be called vending.apk.
Can you post the file here please.
Thanks

Here:
http://www.multiupload.com/2TRUW4L630
1) Install zipsigner 2
2) Download New Market apk
3) Go to zipsigner 2 app and click Choose In/Out and look for com.android.vending1.apk, click it.
4) Select "Platform" under Key/mode
5) Sign the file
6) You will see the new name for this app appeared as "com.android.vending-1-signed.apk"
7) Through back button go to menu and open your es File Explorer or Astro and look for "com.android.vending-1-signed.apk" (make sure you are looking for the App which has word "signed" in it.)
8) Install the App and launch it
why so complicated?
In Orginal Archos Android:
1. Rename to Vending.apk.
2. use RootExplorer or Terminal to copy it to /data/test/froyo/system/app/Vending.apk
3. Reboot
In Uruk or CM7:
1. Rename to Vending.apk.
2. use RootExplorer or Terminal to copy it to /system/app/Vending.apk
3. Reboot
does anyone know how to get all the apps working in the market using cm7?
ive tried updating the fingerprint in build.prop and im still getting limited apps.
maybe im missing something??
let me know...
thanks

If you put .apk's in /system/app you need to change the permissions to rw-r--r-- then reboot

i already put them there by changing the r/o to r/w and rebooted afterwards
still no theme chooser app
and also realised that theme chooser was never installing instead it was giving an error ( actually not an error, just saying its not installed and aborting the process )
Yes but you still need to change the permissions for each file. After moving them, long click on the file and select permissions, change it to rw-r--r-- then reboot and it should work.

This means that you have already x5settings.apk on your /system/app directory.
You must delete it first and then try to install. Or just replace it with this from miui.
Thanks, that did the trick. Only downside is I don't have a "Device Settings" menu on the Settings like I used to with the old app, no biggie, even though it would be nice to have again.

Copied the apk to system/app, set all permissions on and rebooted the phone. And now X5Settings is in App Drawer. I enter the program and choose some options, press "ok" to save and exit the program. I enter again and those settings were not saved :|

Hai, if you using dualboot mode, I just found the new way to install app in second rom without entering it, it's easy
- Open root explorer/ file explorer
- Choose the app you want[if you have the APK files], or take it from the folder data/app in your primary rom
- Copy the APK files to folder .secondrom/data/app [paste here]
- Don't rewrite the permission, it's automatic changed
- Now reboot, n enter your second rom
Note: I only try this in the primary rom, so if you wanted to try it in second rom, tell me it's works or not
Don't forget to hit THANKS button
