I really hope this doesn't violate the rules of this board, but I am not able to post in the Dev forum, and I have a TON of questions. Most of my questions are being answered by other users having the same issues as me and I've followed this thread religiously.
I have been having intermittent Wifi errors since I started using CM7 for the Epic 4G. First, I Flashed my ROM with CM7 nightly 2, but realized by looking through the thread that I did it wrong. I was supposed to flash RC0 first, then flash the nightlies over it. Noob mistake, no worries.
Now I've been flashing each nightly, and last night's (#4) broke my Wifi again. Two other people have had the same problem.
Also, I have tried deleting /etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf but still get the same error.
Could I get some help, or someone send a carrier pigeon to the l33t dev forum to bring up this issue again?

I flashed #4 last night and wifi is working fine for me.. (i'm on it constantly at work) i didn't do a clean install though, i just wiped both caches and flashed over RC0.
I will try wiping the caches and re-flashing #4 again. I have just been flashing each nightly over top the previous nightly without wiping caches.
Please try to Odin back to EC05 stock, OTA to EI22, then flash back to CM7. This fixed wifi on two of my Epic's. I can't explain why. Please report back if this fixes the issue for you?
Still getting an error, going to try deleting /etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf after Titanium is finished restoring.

Not to be a douche nozzle or anything, but this is the General Forum Why didn't you post this in the QnA forum haha.
But i guess IMO CM7 unofficial works different on different phones, some have the problems and some don't.

That's a good question, and the only answer I have to that is that I saw other people had posted ROM-specific problems in this forum so I thought it would be a good start.
I figured that the Q&A form was more for questions like "How do I root my phone?" as opposed to asking troubleshooting questions for specific ROMs.

Not true lol i have threads and they get troubleshooted all the time hence the "QnA" Part lol. All questions go there and sub questions related to the specific thing causing it stays in the dev section in that thread. whereas this forum is the general stuff.

Nope, the "Q & A" forum is for all questions related to the Epic. All unrelated stuff is what the "General" forum is meant for. Though you wouldn't think that looking at how cluttered "General" is with similar threads.
Also you titled your thread with "[Q]", so that would be a clear indicator you should have posted in the "Q & A" forum. It's all good, I'm not harping on ya.
Wish I could assist with your problem, but I don't use CM. Good luck in finding a resolution.
Let its know if you get out fixed. I've been thinking about switching over to mtd but have held off because of the reported wifi problems.

Its not too bad and you might be lucky some people have the issues and some dont, just give it a shot. once it connects it'll stay connected unless you tell it otherwise.
Thanks for the advice, and I'll keep this in mind for the future. If anyone wants to move this thread to Q&A that is fine with me, but hopefully I'll get to 10 posts soon and none of this will be an issue.
Something strange has happened since I Odined back to Froyo. I cannot connect to my wifi, but not the same error. I'm able to scan for networks, but when I try to type in my network key it won't authenticate. This means the OTA to Gingerbread will take a bit longer, but I'm hoping that this is just a glitch and I'll have wifi working again soon after Gingerbread or flashing CM7.
Also, I should note that I'm using the Ronin7 kernel, I flash it every time I do a nightly CM7 update and I did upgrade my modem to EI22 before flashing CM7.

Had I done it right the first time, this would have been the first wifi problem I've had with MTD, and the way it's looking there is a slight chance that this is unrelated to any mods, but hopefully it will work with stock Gingerbread or a reboot.
@ OP:
Open this post and snag the update file. Waiting for OTA sucks.
RE: different kernel -- If you used ODIN to go back to EC05 and still have Wifi issues, then try being on 100% stock and retry. When troubleshooting issues, try not to toss in anything new/different.
Weird, wifi is now working with stock Gingerbread update. About to root and flash CM7.
Noobnl's root + CWM script does not seem to be working with EI22. Is there a good reason I should be doing this, or is it just to get the EI22 modem, because I can flash that manually.

One-click root method does not work with Gingerbread.
You will need to ODIN a rooted kernel, then ODIN CWM. If you keep the stock kernel, then it will overwrite CWM with stock recovery every time.
You can find the steps for all of this in the linked post in my previous reply here. Just be sure to use CWM v5 rather than v3. Version 5 was not release when I wrote that guide.

Thank you, but do you really think this is necessary or is the only reason for this to get the EI22 modem?
You don't have to jump through so many hoops for a clean install. Just odin ec05 and cwm, flash the ec05 to ei22 modem zip in cwm, then flash the cm7 zip.

Now that the slide has Root and an update, I have a question that may have been asked/answered in previous threads, forgive me in advance (I did a search and could not get an answer)...
Once rooted, will the slide still get the Froyo update?
Also if the phone has to go back for exchange/warranty, is there a way to flash it back to "Stock" as we did with the Samsung BHII?
TIA!
There is a nandroid backup of the stock rom available in the development section of the forum to revert back for warranty, not sure if froyo will goto a rooted slide, but I'm sure the devs will have a 2.2 rom out soon

Wait... There was an update?
This is the one thing keeping me from rooting.
Just back up your stock android rom before rooting so you can restore it. When you get to clockworkmod for the first time create a backup.

½anyone know where to get the RUU of the slide rom, not mixed and modified by a dev or cook?
but the origional rom or lastest version of it.
the nandroid backup will get you back to stock(ish) and if you're rooted with an aftermarket rom, you WILL NOT receive any updates from tmobile.. A couple days after release of the update, we'll have a rooted version, i can bet my right nut on it(and yes i do still have my right nut lol)
Guys... I don't play forum police or anything but the questions go in the q/a stickied thread or in general. The moderater already moved several threads like this today. Oh and when we do get an update... it will posted here after the proper mods have been made. You'll only have to wait a couple days and I'm sure that will be faster than you having to wait in line for your ota to be beamed to your handset. So go ahead and root it.. trust me! You'll be glad you did. Oh and if you get an ota... don't install it! Contact me or one of the other forum members. Or better yet post your news and we'll tell you the steps so we all can enjoy it.

Agreed... Sorry about that - just thought General was appropriate at the time.
The Epic forum has become too congested with problematic kernals, roms, and even the clockwork mod isn't working the way it should. There are so many threads on getting clockwork mod to work thats its become ridiculous. I believe this needs to be monitored more closely. For example, i look on how to flash clockwork recovery mod, and there are 4 different threads, with 4 different kernals with recovery mods, and 4 different clockwork mod files. Its way too confusing and most of them don't work with the update, or is causing bad things to happen to phones. Nothing is consistent with these kernals, roms, and recoveries. I put this thread in the development section because it all has to do with development of the Epic. Forum just seems congested to me.

You're new to the whole Android thing, huh? This is what development is.
There is ONE working Clockwork Mod Recovery right now, and Koush himself released it. There is a flashable .zip kernel for the people who had the old version, noobnl version.
There are multiple kernels out because they do different things for the phone.
We also have two versions of root access right now. The one click root method we have stickied at the top is janky and inefficient compared to the kernel root we have.
This is how Android development works, especially until we have some full-fledged ROMs available. Threads like this make it harder for new users to get through this section (Now, when someone searches "Clockwork" or anything related, this completely unhelpful thread comes up). This is not Android development.

Dude, sometimes ppl can step in **** and still walk on a clean carpet without wiping their feet off first. It's funny how they can just dump on someone when they are merely expressing what they feel about how the forums is. i would have to somewhat agree with you, I've been searching through the **** for over two weeks and still noone has a goddamn real fix for getting a phone to boot into the right recovery mode. I still haven't been able to enjoy not one of these so-called roms as of yet. Even after doing everything to the tee. I have root...but don't think I have permanent root. Tried the fix for that....no happenings. They work hard to make these roms and I really would appreciate it if I could actually use them. I'm a persistant mofo tho...still trying at it...just make it a bit more easier to find what I need to get this **** to work.

As for you, I'm not the one crying. And if you read what I said, you'd know that I've been doing my research for 2 weeks. Why are you such an ass when it comes to ppl needing help with something. Did you forget that you wasn't exactly born into this world with a encyclopedia in your hand, was you? Remember? You needed help once before and maybe you got it figured out real quickly. That doen't nessecarily mean that everyone who comes to this forum are capable. SO PLAY NICE!!!
First thing you need is the drivers for your phone, there's several links to get those. You need sdk to do the one click. It needs to be in the sdk folder. After I downloaded sdk I unzipped it to drive c and renamed it android cause it's shorter than the original name. You open it and in the root of that folder is a folder called tools extract the one click here. Same goes for clockwork. Make sure you enable debugging on the phone. And don't mount your sd card. There's a tutorial on what to do with sdk on you tube. Really you don't even need root anymore if you have clockwork cause all the kernels come with root now. Unless you want to use a stock kernel then you use the method I described above. After you one click the clockwork mod you need to turn off your phone and power on holding the volume button down, pressing the camera button and the power button to boot into recovery. Make a back up of your phone and then reboot. Now just download whatever you want, boot into recovery and install. Sdx developers has some tutorials over on they're site as well. Hope this helps. Remember, cussing people just pisses people off, then you will be on your own.

I've only had this phone and only worked with an android phone for less than a month, so I admit that I am new to the scene...but I will have to disagree to the rant. It took me a while to root my phone and get clockwork. But it wouldn't have happened unless there was the "clutter" of ways to do it. The only mistake I made was assuming that I understood the whole post and skipped ahead. And that's what slowed me down. Personally I don't think there really is much of an issue with the forum. The only issue is some people aren't patient enough to read the whole post and screw up then blame others for their mistake. But what can you say, its human nature. There's also the wiki you can go to and that'll help out, it's all categorized nice and neatly for some to read if the forum is too much.

Obviously the OP has had enormous difficulty modding his phone. I extend my sympathies, and if there's anything I can do to help down the road, I will certainly try.
However, many if not most of us have had no trouble at all. In my case, I successfully rooted, installed clockworkrecovery, backed up, and flashed the Mixup kernel. No meaningful stumbles along the way, went smoothly.
So, blaming the forum seems rather misplaced. I don't know what's unique about kpkimmel's situation, but it's pretty clear that the problem lies there, not with the forum, information posted here, and the very helpful people assisting.
I'm sure the solution to the poblem would be an easy fix. As long as the the problem explained. The answer could be as simple as doing the 3-button sequence to get into cwm, or just wiping the phone to prep for flashing.

LMFAO!!!! You sho right...there is an easy solution to the problem and you wouldn't believe how freaking easy it is. Like I've said before, I've been doing the research and everything and nothing seem to work right. I have rooted my phone and have proven it so by doing the tests. But the damn thing would not go into Clockwork recovery no matter how many times I tried. Until last night on another website, the answer was plain and simple as big as day. When I did as instructed, lo and behold, it worked....I have Clockwork recovery. I can use the roms now. Gonna go post it in the 'Epic 4G Android Development.' Don't know why it hasn't been made know to those having this problem in the first place. Woulda save a bunch of time and headaches.
i have rooted my fascinate and want to run custom roms on it. for some reason, when ever i run a rom that is DJ05, i cant send or receive text messages. so i am stuck with running DI01 roms. can any help me please? i am stuck and dont know what to do. do anyone else have the same problem or am i the only one? is there a fix for it that i havent seen? PLEASE HELP!!!
First, you didn't read and you posted in the wrong forum.
Second, you need to download odin, then flash the modem.bin as the instructions say. Also, do not forget to place the file in pda.
Regarding odin, this phone is a pda not a phone.

Kudos for at least posting to a related thread.
Find DJ05 modem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869990
(google "dj05 release")
Also be sure to get a DJ05 kernel (and system like black hole 2+ or super clean 0.7+). I love JT's 11/29 novoodoo. There are more recent choices too (I am currently testing geeknik 12/20, available on rom manager, for instance). Avoid Voodoo kernels unless you fully understand them!

I approve of this simple guide.
I did it myself and worked perfectly...of course you should download the 7/18 update and flash that instead of 7/4 rom referenced on the guide.
You might also want to look further down the CM7 Thread. There have been a bunch of ROM/kernel updates from what i've read. Some fixing issues you might have from 7/18 build.

No disrespect intended here, but I recommend actively researching anything you find confusing in there; same applies for CM7 in general. Believe me, I understand where you're coming from and it took a couple months of lurking around the dev section before I was comfortable enough to even make my first post!
Having said that, I went to CM7 from UKB2.1 and may be able to assist. Which details have you confused / nervous?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I also understand where you are at, people just asking questions and not looking. I just had confusion with the whole process. But i have it installed now! but one problem, i have no recovery :/ . I guess installing it removed it?
Are you using the 3-button method? It's an adjustment, but that method is absent from CM7. You can only get there via adb or (much more simply) by selecting Reboot from the power button menu. You will then be given the choice to reboot into recovery.
EDIT: To clarify, this also means that you can no longer do a cold boot into recovery; if for some reason the Rom won't boot, your only real options are adb (only if you know EXACTLY what you're doing) or using Odin to return to stock and starting over from scratch.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Its absent from holding the power button aswell. I found out that i have to go to Rom manager and then boot into recovery that way. Thanks for the help everyone!
YMMV, but my understanding is that Rom Manager still doesn't play nice with the Fascinate. Personally, it's given me nothing but trouble regardless of setup.
Don't get me wrong, Koush has done a lot for Android development in general and I'm not knocking his work. However, the majority of feedback on Rom Manager I've seen from Fascinate users has been overwhelmingly negative.
EDIT: Make sure that Power Prompt is enabled. You will find it in Settings -> Cyanogenmod Settings -> Interface

Here are the exact steps I did today.
Flashed Completely back to stock
reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178544
Note: I just downloaded the file he included.
1. Odined the MD5 file from the aforementioned file
note: LET YOUR PHONE COMPLETELY BOOT UP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE
your phone will boot as stock/unrooted/****cake
2. Odined Fixed CWM4 recovery *.tar file
You can download this recovery from jt's original post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116424
3. Boot to recovery using 3-button method (volume up&down + power [holding until recovery shows up])
4. Flashed 7/26 CM7 (updated by imnuts)
reference: http://imnuts.net/quXv55
5. Flashed GApps found in jt's post (link from step2)
6. Flashed DockandUSBAudio fix found in jt's post (link from step2)
7. Chose reboot system
8. $$
FYI: the Dock and audio usb fix contains the kernel by jt. I found the 7/26 build to be a bit more buggy (signal animation is messed up). at least call speaker now works. But ultimately i re-flashed the 7/24 build from imnuts and flashed the dockusbaudio fix to snag jt's kernel. (sum it up: im running the 7/24 build with dockusbaudio fix)
I state the following not as an insult, but as honest advice:
If you don't feel comfortable following the guide in jt's CM7 thread, you need to do more research on roms and kernels first. There shouldn't be any guesswork to it as long as one has an understanding of the steps involved, what each step does, and why it's necessary.
Yes, it is possible to "get by" with only a functional understanding of of how to flash things, for example, but that's why people end up with bricks after, say, flashing an Amend script in an Edify-only recovery.

Thanks for putting together this extra guide. I have been reading through the threads and know how easy it is to get lost on what information applies and what doesn't as things evolve.
OK, I rooted my A500 towards the end of last year since it didn't seem like Acer was going to keep up with the latest Android operating systems.
I checked in here recently and saw that ICS has been released for the A500. Joy.
So, I used CWM v5.0.0.0(thor2002ro rev1.3.4) to try and flash the rooted Acer OTA ICS. I figured I'd try the original ICS before I start flashing other people's ICS roms.
All went well until the reboot. It froze on the ACER screen and would go no farther. I figured that perhaps the cache/data/dalvik didn't clear the first time so I repeated those steps. format data user reset, clear caches, clear bat stats. Reflashed rom.
Reboot.
Stuck at ACER screen again.
I searched the forums and found that I need a different bootloader? There are a bunch of threads, but I can't seem to make sense of them.
Can someone please give me a step-by-step plan to get this thing from where I'm at to ICS?
I did get my tab working again by repeating whole process but installed HC 3.2.1 Flexstriker r9.6. It booted up into the rom just fine.
I guess this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425 - is close to what I need but it's tough to follow with all the different options and colors/fonts...
Can anyone help me down the right path?
Thanks in advance.
You can flash one of Civato's old Flexreaper roms on a HC bootloader. Since it is an ICS rom you can just update the boatloader as mentioned in the thread you linked.
I would suggest flashing Flexreaper 9 or something, his newer roms require you already have the ICS BL on. After you update the BL then just upgrade to one of his newer roms. They work very well. I've personally had no problems at all with his roms.
but....
If you want the stock Acer ICS, you have to downgrade all the way back to the old 3.x unstable rom and let it update from there. It will take a few updates, but it should get you to ICS.
Sorry, but this is a development forum not questions and answer, xda is strict about keeping things organize, please read the rules and guidelines.

Any guide on this? I need it for warranty issues (charging stops after few minutes with power light flashing white / amber) Search is not working and there is no "going back to stock" thread in the dev section sticky roll-up thread.
The thought of going back down and then upgrading back up didn't appeal to me.. So, I bit the bullet and tried to make sense of the thread I mentioned... I managed to get through it and I now have the sandwich on my tablet.
What a pain in the.......
OK... ready for the jelly bean leaks now.

I did read the rules/guidelines..
It's a question about development (or at least how to use some developed tools), so I put it here..
If it doesn't belong here, then perhaps a mod would be so kind as to move it..
At this point, the thread really could be deleted as the original query is handled.
However, tkolev has added a question.
