I'm curious - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I keep seeing threads on battery life and it baffles me, what exactly do people think great battery life is for a phone of this caliber? A week straight of watching 1080P movies through the tv? For crying out loud stop crowding the forum with them. The phone has great battery life for the powerhouse it is and no phone will last a month straight watching videos unless you wanna go buy a 1000000000mah battery and have a phone you need a horse and buggy to haul around. Thanks and God bless
Derek

I would be glad if the phone could handle 4h of mixed internet browsing and gaming non stop, which it doesn't.

IDK why your phone does not, but mine last's just over 5 hours when streaming video/ max bright / and streaming audio to BT speakers.
And of course if I'm careful almost 2 days.

Best battery life I have experienced on an Android phone and I owned many phones.
Love this phone!

Because you didn't add "browse the internet".
For some reason, data streaming is extremelly taxing on the Note's battery, specially Wifi. You can easily drain it 100 to 0 in 3 hours of browsing the web with min brightness. However, if u stick to gaming and media consuming, it should last over 5.
Yeah, don't ask...

How to extend battery life on ANY rom

I am not responsible if you brick you're phone or blow it up/cause world war three. so don't tell me it's my fault because this should all be fine, just don't wanna get legals against me you know how it is
People seem to think that 1-5MA is fantastic but it's all about how long you spend on the phone, i mean if you have it on for 2 hours messing with it. listening to music, angry birds then internet, you are going to have bad battery life no matter what you do, smartphones aren't built for a hell of a long battery life.
First things first!
Battery stats, charge using current widget to 100% untill it shows 0MA usage keeping it plugged in goto root explorer or w.e you use that can Mount and enable write access to DATA/SYSTEM then delete the file BATTERYSTATS.bin then restart phone unplug and you are done.
Display the display is best set at Auto.
Vibration off, for max battery life.
as for the CPU just set the notifcations off and screen off to the lowest setting unless you have it doing ridiculous things it should be fine, if not set it one about that the lowest should be 245MHZ this will save power!
im more of a minimalistic kinda guy so i prefer to have stock apps and the apps i really need not like these iphone types who just want to show you how many apps they have on their phones.. so how many apps you use is upto you, but if you have quite a few download and install a cache cleaner, doesn't matter which one. all do the same (i think)
Other things to prolong battery life:
Turn the screen off when you're not using it!
Turn auto rotate off
Turn onto silent (not recommended if you have a life outside of XDA can cause problems with girlfriends and such)
Turn off things when not using them, this goes for all of the options, WIFI, GPS, Mobile data.
that should prolong battery life.
Hope i helped
what is your definition of pretty long battery life ? At the end of the day we all have to charge the phone.

Still got about 2 days? Sometimes a little shorter sometimes a little longer :>

I get about 6-8 hours on a work day from my phone when stock, 8-12 hours with current rom
1% every 1-2 minutes, on CM 6.1.3 ROM is that normal?
even after flashed new recomended radio
the Battery Drain fix makes my wifi can't find AP and the USB won't be detected, rebooted and still the same.
tried CM 7, stuck at boot loop, can't even enter the phone
I don't know about Cm 6 but I thought the fix was for cm 7 Only. The creator is a man named mad Murdoch ask him he will know more

I notice that actually reception plays a big big part of battery life, which means this can vary from location to location, country to country, network to network.
If you are in an area (or even a particular room in your house) that constantly require power to hold onto weaker network signal, your battery will be drained a lot of faster obviously.
And to be honest, there isn't much we can do about it except using a known good radio.

Battery Concerns...

Well, the phone is fast enough for any app on the market. Playing HD videos is superb smooth. Touchwiz is okay for me. But the battery doesn't seem ok to me. Don't know if mine's got some problem or it's normal for all SGS II users. I'd love to have a rom/mod that lasts a whole day with usage music:~4hrs, video:~1hr, web browsing:1hr+, facebook+email+rss feeds reading: ~2hrs, calls(including fringout calls): 1hr and rest on standby. Any suggestions appreciated.

Two possibilities:
Charge it from time to time
Or
Bring a car battery with You
I was shocked at the beginning that this device consumes power since shouting messages and reading paper magazines needed no electricity but now I found my personal solution:
I bought a mobile power plant.

How do you even state heat up without mentioning the temp?
Have a basic idea, based on an ambient of 30°C,
Charging- 50-55°C,
Charging+ Gaming- 55-60/62°C,
Normal Use for more than an hour with WiFi On- 40-45°C,
Moderate Use for half an hour- 35-40°C,
Standby for half an hour- Below 35°C.
That's just an overall idea I tried to input.

This. Give us some temps of normal and when gaming to see if it is abnormal (there are apps on the market that allow you to do this). Chances are, it isn't. The phone has to use more power to run games and processor intensive applications. It getting warmer is normal.
when i fap i mean use my hand in a productive manner, it heats up (inside joke from irc chat last night)

Xoom Screen and Battery performance vs ipad 2

My wife uses ipad2 and i am using xoom. Noticed some glaring performance issues for the battery and the screen:-
1. The battery on the ipad2 can last twice as long as the xoom. I can get 3 days use of battery from the ipad2 compared to the xoom for about the same usage. When i use the xoom for about 5hours - mainly to do basic web serving, read books, with 3G turned on (rest of wireless turned off), i have about 40% battery left after 24hours. That does not seem normal to me, battery reports that the battery juice is used by the screen mostly (80%)...but my screen brightness is less than 30% level.
2. The you tube HD video clarity on the ipad2 is definitely more superior in color richness , clarity and sharpness. Turning up the screen brightness to 100% and activating the higher video quality in the xoom helps a bit but the improvement just makes a dent. I have read that the ipad screen is better...but what i see is a clearly superior ipad screen performance.
I almost hate to say this....ipad2 is a winner as far as the battery and screen quality is concerned. Or my xoom is a dud and i should bring it back to motorola?
thanks
Lawrence
P/s - Saw this article on the xoom screen performance from gizmodo.com.au/2011/07/best-tablet-display-ipad-2-just-got-dethroned. Looks like i am better of reading books with xoom and watch videos on the ipad2.
Honestly the xoom's screen is good enough for watching videos. But to say your not going to use it for video's because of a small difference in the screen.(I've compared them side by side) Why not read books on the ipad?
My xoom lasts me 4 days on battery browsing and playing games for 4 hours a day. But I'm using wifi only.

Can the ipad2 install 3rd party music players?
Use Xbox controllers?
Mount cameras?
Use SD cards to play friends music?
As well as many other features.
Both have strong and weak points, just pick the one suited to you simple.

Hi,
I got the xoom for the reasons you have highlighted and am thankful to the XDA community for the support and the hacks. It makes the experience so much more fulfilling .
Ipad2 plays the youtube by default in HD mode while in the Xoom, you have to select this play mode. Having realized this solved the problem that was borne out of my ignorance.
I hope the Tiamat 2.1 improves the Xoom battery life, i am charging it almost daily now since it drops to below 40% after a day of use.

I think he's trying to be sarcastic, lol.
If you're doing anything other than listening to music, the Xoom will give +/- ten hours of battery life. That's pretty good. I charge at night on my speaker dock and use it as my alarm clock. It's ready to go in the morning and lasts through the day with battery to spare.
Use SetCPU or CPU Master to set battery saving profiles if rooted with custom kernel/rom.

So you get 16 hours of battery life out of your xoom? Honestly, sell it back to Motorola for half a million or so, so they can find out how you doubled the normal battery life.
Sorry, I really like my xoom and am a Android "Fanboy", but we should at least try to be realistic.
I don't get what all the fuzz is about anyway. The Ipad2 has a better battery life, which is even written down in the specs. And that the xoom's screen is **** (relatively, considering the price class) has been mentioned right from the start. So, nothing new to see here
Tiamat 2.1 ROCKS
Hi,
Using Tiamat 2.1 with
1. Used Set CPU to increase to 1.5Ghz (settings = ondemand). Performance increase very noticeable and quadrant score has increased from 1800 to 3500!
2. Battery life has also improved, half a day use drops about 20% but will take me a few days to test this out for a fact. I suppose this because Tiamat has cleaned out the bloat ware Thanks ROM Team Tiamat! Also used Auto Memory Killer (got this advice from Xoom Heaven thread, Thanks diablo2224!). And all this with 1.5Ghz CPU setting!
I support android, use SGS2, SGS1 (wife using this) and Xoom. XDA is a great place where the majority of the views are objective and useful for the reader, to make informed decisions.

Lol seriously such a hassle to plug it in over night! Mine runs a couple days with heavy use thanks to rooting it and running setcpu...doing this to solve Androids battery guzzling from the factory issue I have a tab that can outlast the iPad, but more importantly excels in several other categories. When the source code comes out things will only get far better...this is a device for real techies...you want a pretty screen and the internet without ever getting the true potential with your device...buy a fadPad
Oh and stock I never had a problem with a full day battery life on this thing which is really all you need, but if you put in the twenty minutes of extra work you could have way better battery life...as far as the screen crispness it is subjective...some folks swear the iPad is better some say xoom has better quality but darker screen...the difference is minimal in my opinion and using better third party players helps...rant over
I'll be the 1st to admit that the iPad2 has a better display than the Xoom, but hell so do most of the other recent android tablets out there. I bought iPad2's for my daughters and I could never move to the darkside. I rely too much on google's free tools, being on the road so much I literally could not live without google maps and it's free voice navigation.
Make no mistake, I'm just as disappointed in the Xoom's display as anyone else and the still absent LTE upgrade (I know it's finally coming) have turned me off from Motorola hardware completely. Since VZW essentially gave me a 4G hotspot and allow me to use my Xoom as a wifi only device, I can't really complain anymore. I won't be leaving Android anytime soon, especially for iOS

What happens when you don't game or download with a loaded phone? This.

Haven't played a single game or downloaded anything all day and my battery life has been top notch. I only drop 1% overnight so in theory I can stretch 2 days out of this battery.
However, if I was to play some music, games, videos/movies.
My battery would be dead within the day.
So top tip. If you want your phone to last more than a day! Don't play games.

Exactly!, battery use depends on what you do with the phone, if you do nothing with it then of course its going to last a lot
Also imagine if you have to sacrifice all use, features and games with a 3000mah phone, then iphone users shouldn't even bother

Not all phones drain quickly when used for playing games, especially light games.
Point i'm making here is that any kind of remotely intensive cpu usage simply kills the battery on the z1, it's like it's going at full chat for no reason, i think it could be managed better on a kernel level that's all.
1 day 11minutes, 20% left.

HTC One, Galaxy S3, Evo 3D, Sensation, Desire HD, Lumia 800. to name but a few, none of these ate away at the battery anywhere near as much as the Z1 did. I'm not saying that the battery on these devices was great but the drain when doing intensive tasks wasn't anywhere near as bad as it seems to be on the Z1.
I've owned the One and the S3, and totally different experience than you. Battery life wasn't as good as the Z1 regardless of activity. Maybe you should investigate whether yours needs replacing.

That's just common sense, bro.
I don't get it. I've had a G2, moto G, S4, note 2,and many more. And never in my life have I come across a XDA Forum for a device that has so much hate . literally when I had the G2 everyone was saying how great it is and only pointing out REAL issues. But with the Z1. Its like a craze that EVERYONE must complain about something wrong with it. What is with all the hate and/or stupid complaints about the Z1? Do Sony device owners assume that since the design is perfect everything else should be? There isn't and never will be a truly perfect device.
So why don't you guys (everyone not just the OP) just quit complaining and enjoy this amazing device. Its an amazing phone overall.

Seriously dude, this has to be the worst forum on XDA for making a statement, people are ready to gun you down the second you say something negative about the device.
Play bloody candy crush or a simple game for 20 minutes and watch your battery just disappear.
moderate usage light games 4hrs screen on 1 day 10 hrs 10% left 1 hr of voice calling when am at work i cant use the phone so that when i leave it on stamina mode [email protected]!!!!loving the battery life!!!
Lol, I went camping not so long ago and disabled all network and mobile connections and the phone lasted about 4 days!! Since there was no cell coverage where I was it was pointless draining the battery while constantly searching for networks. My main use for the phone was as a camera and I took A LOT of high res pics.
To @dladz, I guess ppl are bashing you because its kinda common sense that battery drain will be high whilst playing games (also this device has a large high def screen which chews battery if its on for a long time), for what its worth, I thank you for trying to be helpful and sharing some positive insight. Just ignore those who are condescending and already have agendas with the device to begin with.
But as stated previously, I agree that a lot of ppl can't seem to find enough reasons to bash this phone. Its as if they bought it primarily to find the faults, lol. I agree its not perfect but then again which phone is? Anyway I'm really happy with it and I find the battery life to be fantastic, better than any smart phone I have ever seen
Xperias aren't carried much by US carriers so in explanation why there appears to be some unordinary bashing, perhaps it's due to ignorance of how good they are, maybe sprinkled with a dash of "if I can't buy it, I'll bash it"
