Hey guys & gals just wanted 2 share something with u. I recently decided 2 uninstall cetcpu from my phone & decided 2 go with cpu tuner instead. In doing so i've noticed my battery life improve significantly with some profile tweaking of course. If you've run the virtuous htc sence rom with the pershoot o.c kernal u know how disgusting the battery life can b.It literally sucks the juice out of your battery like "Debbie" from Debbie does Dallas sucks the juice out of...well u know. Anyway,i also noticed how little juice the system resources now use up. I included a screenshot of the battery status screen.Hope this helps anyone with battery issues especially if your running the rom & kernal mentioned above, it worked 4 maybe it can work 4 u. P.S I have the screen set to 20% brightness, gps, wifi, blutooth, autosync all disabled.Only reason i mention this is because even with all these things disabled along with a few other,b4 installing cpu tuner my battery would still drain like crazy. Thx.
That's some horrible grammar.

Useless post, This isn't grade school or school period. If your worried about grammar over the Interwebz then i dont think you should be posting on a forum site.
Liek ma grammarz?
Anyway, Your saying the cpu tuner helps the battery life? I'll give this a go but I don't use any of the sense roms. I'm all for better battery life although I do get 15h on pershoots kernel running cm 6.1 stable.

i have almost the exact same info on mine with setcpu oc to 1ghz on CM6.1 and i get atleast a full day of use with frequent music and texts. alot better then any other android phone.
I don't know how you guys are having such bad battery life. Currently at the moment I am at 22h 11m 51s since unplugged with 57% left. This is all with CM6.1 RC4 w/ wifi + wifi calling on all the time when I am home, autosync on for everything, auto brightness, and some use of gps. I listen to music on my phone for atleast 3+ hours walking to and from class + texting, browsing, facebook, twitter, fantasy league during class and the occasional call, pretty good usage. with setcpu on oc to 1ghz with some profiles set up.
what if im not running sense?
If it works with sense I would think it'd work with most everything else.

Is the phone not quick enough at 1Ghz? I keep mines on stock speeds, have setcpu installed but don't use, and have CyanogensMod on it. I get the whole days worth plus more of battery. I can't even kill it when I want to recalibrate it.
A whole day for me is about 16-20 hours for me without charging. This is MADNESS!

Not that the phone is not fast enough. It's placebo effect where people "feel" that it needs to be faster when they overclock it at crazy speed. The G2 has already proved itself a speed monster, none of the android phones out there can top it right now. As for the battery life, I honestly don't notice any considerable improvement.

So what settings exactly are you using on the cpu tuner? Just wanted to know so I can replicate it.
My settings.
@quierotacobell...Under "Current" i have governor set to:conservative,Max:1094Ghz,Min:768Mhz.
"Profiles":
Performancendemand-Max:1097Ghz,Min:768Mhz
Good:conservative-Max:1094Ghz,Min:768Mhz
Normal:conservative-Max:1094Ghz,Min:768Mhz

Screen off:conservative-Max:768Mhz,Min:768Mhz
Extreme Power save:conservative-Max:768Mhz,Min:768Mhz(services set to 2g)
Keep in mind i have wifi, blutooth, & sync disabled all across the board. Also i'm simply stating what worked for me it's no guarantee it's going to work for you.
Hmm how can you get better battery life with CPU Tuner because the lowest you can go to minimum is 768?
Will try that out Utorrent, thanks.

My battery lasts me all day. I play n64oid for an hour a day during lunch at work. That drains 15% to 20% during that time. So yeah, that sounds normal.
Its not a console, built only for games. It has other things running all the time. Also, my old PSP maybe got 5 hours, you must have an extended battery.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
yes this is normal
i can burn through the 100% charged battery in 3~4 hours just browsing the internet alone
the WiFi or 3G is what eats all the power, same goes for the SAMOLED
other devices last even less time, using HTC Desire and similar devices i can drain the battery in 2~3 hours
i always carry extra battery packs with me, i'm a heavy duty user
So, to your answer, no, it is not unusual
High end 3D games also uses a lot of power in the CPU, GPU, SAMOLED and if you are playing online like WOW online for Android, then it will go up even faster.

[Q] Battery life, compared to the Galaxy S
Hi guys,
I used to have a Galaxy S device, and recently purchased a Nexus S, and gave the Galaxy S to my wife.
I assumed that, given the fact that these two devices have a very similar hardware, the battery life would be somewhat similar in both.
However, this is not what I have experienced at all. I basically reinstalled all my apps and home configuration in the Nexus S. The only difference being that I'm using a darker wallpaper now (which is supposed to improve battery life.) The rest is pretty much identical - I basically restored all data from my apps using Titanium Backup (not the system data, evidently.)
I have noticed however that the Nexus S spends a lot more battery than my Galaxy S, especially when the phone is idle. I have everything turned off (GPS, NFC, 3G and Wi-Fi) just as I did with the other phone. Even on Airplane Mode the Nexus S seems to use a lot more battery. Leaving the phone on Airplane Mode at night would barely consume any battery at all with the Galaxy S. The Nexus S does take some hit though.
The battery life is still not a bad one. Especially when compared to LCD phones. However, the Galaxy S is significantly better with stock 2.2.
My question is: Why could this be? Is it because of Gingerbread? Or am I missing something?
Thanks guys!
it's quite the opposite for me
my previous phone was a SGS and it chewed more battery than the SNS

Try to deactivate the GPS and Wifi if you do not use them. You can also use some apps to deactivate 3G access.

Was your SGS on 2.1?
I did notice that on Froyo (2.2) the SGS had a much better battery life than on Eclair (2.1). It really made a great difference.
But my SGS on Froyo is consuming a lot less battery than the SNS on 2.3. Especially when the phone is idle (both with everything turned off and set to GSM or even on Air Plane Mode).
So I was wondering if this could be a software issue.

Same with me. I came from a Vibrant, and no matter what ROM I used, I'd lose around 8-15% of battery while sleeping.
With the same settings, and apps now on the Nexus, I lose 1-2 percent while I'm sleeping.
The idle is a lot better for me with the Nexus, and I lose a little bit less while I'm actually using the phone as well.

For me it's exactly the other way around. I assume your Vibrant was on 2.1, right? Cause in 2.2 the SGS does much better. And this is what I would lose: 1-2 percent when on airplane mode for an entire night.
Mind sharing what your config is? I'm on 2.3.3 + Netarchy 1.2.7

I was on 2.2 on the Vibrant. I was mainly using the Axura and Trigger roms.
My config on the Nexus is: Stock 2.3.3 with Launcher Pro.
Go get it exchanged and if it keeps happening, then it's your usage that you need to deal with by getting more batteries or keep it on the charger whenever you can.
I read a lot of threads and posts about battey life on NS and the problems of 100% charging, and most of people declared that the NS has a better battery life of all i9000 series or S series.
Maybe a nokia would suit better, days of battery

So wait - your PSP has both an extended battery and an extended external battery and you're surprised it lasts longer?
The Nexus S has a 1500 mAh battery in it. The PSP extended is a good 3600 mAh, and external packs can be 4200 or more. So that's 1500mAh for the phone and 7800 for the PSP. The PSP has 5.2x as much battery to power it, so it's logical that it'd last longer.
The phone's also a lot smaller and running power hungry radios for network connectivity, an OS to manage everything and misc. background tasks in addition to whatever game is running.

You're brave saying this in this thread. Most of us now thing you're an idiot...
My Nexus S went 33 hours before last charge. I am a light user though.
To check how you're does, don't use it for at least an hour one time, coming off charge. You should only lose 2-4%. Then check battery usage and see what's taking power when the phone should be doing very little.

That's an almost impossible question to answer as there are so many different factors involved which can affect battery life both on a custom rom and a stock one for example.
signal strength
push
gaming
screen brightness
Everyone will have a different experience and your best bet is to try different rom's and choose the one which suits you as a rom which is great for them may not be great for you.
If some rom creator would make make a black-red theme for his mod it would be probatly the best mod... Of course with all other goodies and tweaks.
Black-red theme because it would drain the lowest energy from the battary in the standart screen mode, but since we all use mostly different apps with different colors it will vary anyway.
To be fair, although it is purely anecdotal, people who have tried different ROMS while going through the sameness of their daily lives should be able to make a relatively valid comparison of battery life.
All the custom ROMs out at the moment are extremely close to stock, so I doubt there's much difference.

That would be funny if a lot of the battery problems are actually because we keep thinking it is flat when it isn't - it is just being mis-reported. Kind of iphone batterygate in reverse.
I had a lock up on my device the other night but didn't realise until the following morning when I found the device unresponsive and stuck on my last screen. Although I had to pull the battery to regain control, the screen had stayed on all night because of the freeze and the battery meter graph was red for about 7 hours. The screen was still on and bright before I pulled the battery though.
Think I will also try ignoring the meter today.

+1!! 10 characters **** so I have to keep typing
Thank you guys for all your informations.
Hi All,
This is my first ever post on this forum although I have learnt a lot reading through various posts which was immensly helpful. I have run numerous ROMs on my Samsung Galaxy s2 and finally settled on Villainrom 1.4 which I must say ROCKS especially in terms of Battery Life which was a main concern for me! Earlier-with stock ROm and also with other ROMS (Litening, Cognition, Batista) battery life was getting better but it hit the pinnacle with VillainRom 1.4.
For an idea, I used to get 1 full day of juice with moderate calls, no wifi, few smses, some market downloads/ updates, 2 mail accounts set to sync every 30 minutes, some gaming and some video playback.
Now with the same usage I get close to 2 full days. Thats a remarkable improvement. Thanks to all the ROM developers especially VillainRom which made me tweak my S2 to the max.
Cheers
Sunny
I ran into nothing but problems with villian rom. Im pretty sure 99% of that was mods I was trying add. But I lost my hardware buttons when using it.
But battery life was really good. I always start roms with 100% and let them discharge. Every device is different and happy ur enjoying it.

Yes, a battery needs some charges/cycles to be running at full performance. Maybe when you tried the other roms this wasn't the case

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say that my battery was 5 days and 21 hours has endured, with Sam's SURFACE JVU v9.01 ROM! I called at that time about 1h, 50 SMS sent, angry birds played 1h, 30min data connection, and 30min with wifi connected. I find this simply amazing and really did not know that this was possible. Apparently so, because Sam's ROM course! So thank you Sam!
Well, on standby with not apps running and wifi off, my phone drains about 20% a day at most if I don't use it. 1 hour of calling, 1hour of angry birds and some surfing would usually also drain about 30%. So in general, with such minimal use, the battery would last about 3-4 days anyway.
You convince me to test this ROM!

It's true. Roms which drain battery are 2.3.3-based roms, as well as poorly made custom roms. Most other roms, especially the froyo 2.2.1 ones, have very good battery life. I'm not saying that the rom you're using isn't good, but I'd simply like to point out that battery life with your amount of usage is gonna be long with most roms anyway.
dont want to troll here, but if standby usages are higher than screen that means you havent used it that much, so it's not due to the rom but due to almost no usage. 3-4 hours of screen turned on a week is almost no use of this phone.
(screen usage uses most battery and it lasts for about 4 hours of screen, it doesnt matter if it is used in a few hours or you dont use your phone and it cumulates 4 hours of screen use during a week)

Not weird. When unused, battery lasts for a long time even on stock roms - I'm on stock JVT. With the help of a properly configured juice defender or tasker, you can easily get draining paces this low even by using the phone a bit more. Nonetheless I'm more than confident that Sam's JVU provides even more time to battery than stock roms.
to be honest, I'm hardly far from a power source that long though.
