Villainrom 1.4 Rocks !! - Galaxy S II General

Hi All,
This is my first ever post on this forum although I have learnt a lot reading through various posts which was immensly helpful. I have run numerous ROMs on my Samsung Galaxy s2 and finally settled on Villainrom 1.4 which I must say ROCKS especially in terms of Battery Life which was a main concern for me! Earlier-with stock ROm and also with other ROMS (Litening, Cognition, Batista) battery life was getting better but it hit the pinnacle with VillainRom 1.4.
For an idea, I used to get 1 full day of juice with moderate calls, no wifi, few smses, some market downloads/ updates, 2 mail accounts set to sync every 30 minutes, some gaming and some video playback.
Now with the same usage I get close to 2 full days. Thats a remarkable improvement. Thanks to all the ROM developers especially VillainRom which made me tweak my S2 to the max.
Cheers
Sunny

I ran into nothing but problems with villian rom. Im pretty sure 99% of that was mods I was trying add. But I lost my hardware buttons when using it.
But battery life was really good. I always start roms with 100% and let them discharge. Every device is different and happy ur enjoying it.

Your battery will also have had a few more charges and be holding a charge for longer.

Yuuuuup pulser rocks!! . Been on ere since 1.1 .

Yes, a battery needs some charges/cycles to be running at full performance. Maybe when you tried the other roms this wasn't the case

I'm very happy with Litenin' ROM v 1.5 battery life.
I use to have 1,5-2 days of moderate use.

Wellll I dunno. I was running stock rom for about 2 weeks and then plunged into custom roms. Phone also went through numerous charge cycles before being custom rommed.

how is the sound quality with villianrom???

foyo? or stay on 2.1? is it worth it?

I have been dabating wether or not to flash a froyo rom and modem. I am currently using ee with phoenix kernel and loving the battery life i get out of it. I have searched the threads but not to much pertaining the the battery life of froyo as there is no kernels yet, most replies to battery life on froyo are a simple its good or i get good battery life. I Wa wondering what kind of battery life people are getting with froyo roms. battery life is the 1st on my list of importance so some with respectable performance would be nice to know so i could make my first froyo jump. Thanks in advance.
I've been on it for a few days now (DK17). I don't use any task manager, or juice defender or anything like that. I have a start-up manager (autoruns) and thats it. I unplugged my phone yesterday at 10:30am and 12 hours later I still had 40-45% remaining after some moderate use... angry birds, asphalt and web browsing mainly.
Hope that helps!
I just flashed 2.2 and used it all day at work for texting, calling, facebook and web browsing and after 9 hours at work i had just under 80% battery life left.
If you are after battery life, then stay on 2.1. I have 4 backup batteries and didn't mind going to 2.2, but I did have a considerable battery life decrease. I find myself changing batteries atleast once a day with these beta 2.2 releases. Recently I haven't noticed it as much, but I think that is due to my getting used to the routine of changing batts every 6-8 hours depending on use.
I really do enjoy the perks of 2.2 though. Flash player with Hulu is awesome, faster phone than 2.1, and the developers are doing a great job of getting some custom themes integrated right now, which makes it not only run great, but look awesome.

I've used it the second it came out, some noticeable snags you'll work around just fine. I've had it for atleast 3ish weeks no major setbacks I guess. Just used clock and flashed it. Happy with over all with flash and other new twists....phone can be hairy at times, but I've foun several androids do on 2.2. Speaker everytme you pick up a call with he feature "off". I have had the epic on the first day at day break.....

What roms are being used for the better battery life? And how much faster then 2.1 over clocked to 1.2ghz is it if any?

I'd stay with 2.1 for now. My phone took a serious performance hit going to 2.2... something is wrong with that kernel. Not optimized yet maybe?

I don't know about you guys, but I am using ACS's Froyo build and my Epic has never had better battery life. By a large margin.
It seems the latest froyo release has been outstanding in terms of battery life. If you're looking for battery efficiency, definitely go with a froyo rom. If you're looking for performance, go with eclair. All in all however, froyo roms are fairly snappy especially considering they are at stock speeds. Can't wait for battery life increases once froyo roms get UV'd.
EDIT: on second thought, I'd have to recommend froyo either way. The improved web browser performance + flash as well as froyo gapps alone make the jump worth it. There's really no 'lag' to speak of on froyo roms... merely, the phone just seems faster on eclair switching between apps and loading/closing them.
I'm using epic experience 2.0(froyo) and my epic has never performed better. Especially gps locks in like 2-3 seconds even without wireless location check marked. Very fast and smooth. Probably just as fast if not faster than 2.1 overclocked to 1.2. For me it seems anyway. Way worth it in my opinion.

Honest to God I'll never understand comments such as these. If battery life is the most important thing then why the hell did you buy the most power hungry phone? You bought it for performance didn't you???? Performance and battery life are polar opposites. Much like horsepower and fuel economy.
Let me save you some suspense... you'll never get more than a day out of this phone. At least not if you actually use the damn thing. If you travel, take a car charger. If you are in the office, have a charger with you. If your job requires you to be away from power then bring an external battery. The phone lasts a normal work day between charges so install 2.2 and enjoy your phone for what it is... a powerhouse!
Btw, the battery life seems pretty good in comparison to stock 2.1.
Or u can buy one of the double or more life batteries for $100 that comes with a modified battery cover to fit the extended battery, then couple it with a kickass kernel (phoenix) and have the best of both worlds

I lost GPS going to Froyo which worked perfectly for me in 2.1. Other than that everything else is better..
I found wifi on froyo drains battery like crazy. Also when I set the browser bookmark to list view the next time I open bookmark brower will fc on me. Other then these and the camera bug, phone seemed to work well..

That's an almost impossible question to answer as there are so many different factors involved which can affect battery life both on a custom rom and a stock one for example.
signal strength
push
gaming
screen brightness
Everyone will have a different experience and your best bet is to try different rom's and choose the one which suits you as a rom which is great for them may not be great for you.
If some rom creator would make make a black-red theme for his mod it would be probatly the best mod... Of course with all other goodies and tweaks.
Black-red theme because it would drain the lowest energy from the battary in the standart screen mode, but since we all use mostly different apps with different colors it will vary anyway.
To be fair, although it is purely anecdotal, people who have tried different ROMS while going through the sameness of their daily lives should be able to make a relatively valid comparison of battery life.
All the custom ROMs out at the moment are extremely close to stock, so I doubt there's much difference.

That would be funny if a lot of the battery problems are actually because we keep thinking it is flat when it isn't - it is just being mis-reported. Kind of iphone batterygate in reverse.
I had a lock up on my device the other night but didn't realise until the following morning when I found the device unresponsive and stuck on my last screen. Although I had to pull the battery to regain control, the screen had stayed on all night because of the freeze and the battery meter graph was red for about 7 hours. The screen was still on and bright before I pulled the battery though.
Think I will also try ignoring the meter today.

Synergy battery life

Not sure if this is in the right place for this info or not. But...I flashed myns synergy rom a couple of weeks ago and have been getting decent battery life. Today my battery life is blowing me away. Going on 11 1/2 hours since being unppugged with my normal usage. Not heavy use by any means but moderate at least. Yes, from what I have read, you have to use the kernel that comes with the rom.
I am getting HORRIBLE battery life with the synergy rom....almost to where I cant use it. I LOVE the rom, but the battery life is frustrating!
Hopefully Netarchy will develop one that will work with this type of rom and we will be saved.

I tried that for a bit over the weekend...but there was something I did not like about it...cant remember now. I will have a go with it again to verify.
At the end of the day...we can develop superb ROMS that have flashy flashes, but if the battery/components cant take it, then we are still at a stand still.
my battery life is good most of the time, but it seems there are periods where it drops quickly. i think it drops when the market alerts me about updates to my apps. both times i've had quick drops, the market has been the top app draining the battery and has a notification of updates. i don't see an option to turn of notifications is this updated version.

No but the netarchy kernel I use works just fine with my King's Alliance GB. It's all in the UNIVERSAL kernel, I should say
I usually get 24 hours up time and 3 hours awake before I've got to pop in a charged battery. Normally change out at 20% to keep it from going dead on me when I need it most.

[Q] Choosing a ROM, battery life a must

Hi. I'm thinking about flashing my first ROM on the Droid X. I've been using rooted GB for awhile and I'm finally just getting bored and ready to try something different. I really am not looking for much though. My order of prefs are:
Stability > Battery Life > Performance
Mods and tweaks and things of that nature are not really a huge concern for me. I just want everything to work well, and have great battery life. I'd love to hear some suggestions.

i know this is gonna sound funny maybe.
i have a vzw droid-x that i am running the alltel rom on.
i put the phone in airplane mode and enable:
wifi off never
power savings wifi always on
i get at least 24hrs
now the equivalent rom to this would be the vzw 2.2.340
if you do not enable airplane mode and disable everything else i dont see why you would not be able to get the same results.
i get amazing battery life with the rom i said i was using above and dont forget this is with an "always on wifi" never ever disconnects
DSX and Shuji are great candidates for you. DSX is not flashy. It is completely reliable and battery life is stellar. You will not be disappointed. Shuji has great battery life as well and is more customizable. My primary phone always stays on DSX though. Ran 5 straight hours of Netflix and still had 5% left. Not sure too many roms can do that.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I also run DarkSlideX and can verify what is said above. Battery life is excellent. I probably make 20-30 minutes of call a day along with 2-3 dozen texts and 2-4 hours of web, forums, etc. I'm usually off the charger around 6:30am and back on it around 9-10pm with 20-30% battery remaining.
Stability has been awesome as well. I have had one reboot in 2 months, it happened about an hour after flash and that was it. BBCrackman did an excellent job with this.
If you want to try a theme for it, wulf has made some equally as nice themes, too. There are also a few custom sliders and a crt mod, too.
Everything can be found at MyDroidWorld and each has a dedicated thread complete with instructions. Best part is you're already on the pre-rooted 596, so all you should have to do is flash DSX right on top.
EDIT: also, much of the VZW bloat has been removed and it still has some blur present. HDMI support is working, too.

Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
I'm not quite sure how to respond to Apex and 18 hours of HEAVY usage. On a stock battery? Up till now I've never questioned someone's post, but this individual seems to have a serious question he'd like some input on. I don't have to be a modder, developer or themer to know no rom gives 18 hours of heavy use unless it's hooked up to a car battery. And even that may be questionable.

How to get a good battery life!

Well I don't no where to start really as I know I will get told off for making a new thread about battery life!
But this is hopefully some help for people out there that are trying to get a decent ROM and kernel to improve your battery life, well mine has really improved since flashing my Samsung GS2 with Lite'ning ROM 6.1 and flashing the kernel with SpeedMOD T-40.
I have spent lots of hours reading forums about battery life, I think I have tried everything known to man about this phone, somethings worked well somethings didn't, I wanted to get a decent battery life with out sacrificing any features I love about my phone!
When I got into rooting, about 2 months ago I was a n00b, but I stuck to it and learnt a lot each day, it's not easy and you can't expect someone to tell you how to do it, you have to read up about it like everyone else!
But anyway back to why I've created a new thread, well after installing Lite'ning ROM 6.1 at the beginning of the week which I really like as it keeps the Samsung software, I've used TB Pro to freeze the Hubs as I don't use them, the battery life wasn't what I thought, in fact I think I got a better battery life with the stock rom unrooted
I did some researching and found that the kernel can make a difference to (I'm still learning) so after reading some forums I learnt that speedmod kernel worked well with Lite'ning ROM, as It was just the kernel that came with the ROM, ninphetamine 2.0.5, so I flashed the kernel last night with Odin and within minutes I was back up and running.
I then charged the phone 100% and then use a battery calibrator app to wipe battery stats, I then did a basic test which I previously did before, I went to sleep with a fully charged phone, I left everything on: WIFI, mobile data network and sync on set my alarm clock and went to sleep (p.s I checked a few websites so battery actually went down to 98%)
8 hours later I woke up checked my phone to see what % it was left one, previously on stock ROM with same set up my phone would be on 65% due to the Android OS bug running high! This time it was on 91%, so that's less than 1% drain an hour! Happy or what!
I know some people might not say this was a actual battery test but to me it is and I can see a big difference, funny thing is the AOS was showin 35% in batt stats, which is strange!
Now as I write this at 1pm my phone has been on for 14hrs and I'm still at 75%, yes I know the first 8 hrs was in standbye, but I've had a lot of notifications come through from G+ this morning and I'm pretty happy with what I have got set up now, without compromise as well!
I will upload a screen shot later if any wants to see when my battery stats when its down to 1% etc
I hope his helps some people out there, but I wanted to keep it simple for some as I was once a n00b (might still be)

That's not bad, which Kernel are you using, the default one?
I have 5% left and going to screen shot it at 1% to show ppl what they can get, bearing in mind I could get max 12hrs out of it before!
1 day 9 hrs so far brilliant if you ask me!

I first rooted it with superoneclick and it downloaded odin and flashed some insecure kernel first and then rooted it
Then i just installed CM 7.1 with Rom Manager, not sure which kernel is it
if you are gonna try cm7 try the latest nightly build....thats pretty more stable than the "stable" version...i think build 83 is out today and that will have pretty much more bug fixes and i hope they can get that browser lag fixed and thats pretty done deal for me to switch over to that completely

I can't keep up with the nightleys plus when I tried build 68 I think it was, camera didn't work at all. Is the latest much better?
Also which Android version is it based on?
Happy!
So as promised here are screen shots of my phone running at 1%, I forgot to screen shot CPU spy as well (sorry) but I can say that with this set up I am really happy, as I cannot remember when with general use I have managed to get over a day with out charging my phone, iPhone 4 included!
If there is a better set up out there with a newer ROM I would be interested as this is based on 2.3.4 tho Google Talk video works so I'm happy

man that os is very high....but you still managed to get a day out of it so not bad work buddy..
nightly there is a new one coming out today version 83...still few bugs they need to sort out but once that is done il be on there...that firmware is based on 2.3.7.
im using speedmod latest kernel..it does not support bln or bootlogo but i would sacrifice all that for a decent battery life which i am getting....so far 5 and half hours past and im down to 75% and 2hours screen on time....not bad i think
