i want to buy an unlocked xoom 3G w/wifi but only if i'll be able to use the 3 g in france as well as here in the 'states. it LOOKS like sfr is going to be ok - but when ? and what about orange ? my french is shaky and so their sites don't help me . : (
any suggestions where to check ?
I'm guessing you will be buying a gsm Xoom from Europe? Because Orange is a gsm network.
The Xoom sold in the USA is cdma running on Verizon and will not run on gsm networks?
Is that what you are asking about? I'm a little confused bro!

re: xooming n france
nope, what i want to buy is an unlocked xoom mz601 32gb 3g w/wifi tablet -which i believe works with GSM networks - but i'm trying to find out whether it will work on FRENCH GSM networks. NO mention of motorola tablets on either orange or sfr.
ps btw i'm not a guy, just an out-of-her-depth chick !
thanks for you help...

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this question has been already treated, I didn't find any answer.
I will move to US soon and I'd like to use my Touch HD there. Can you tell me if my French HD will work in US with an american contract?
Thanks for your answer.
It will work but on Edge only. No 3G. I am assuming you have the European T8282 version not the Telstra Australian T8285 version which is only sold in Australia. The European version does not have the right 3G frequencies and can't be converted with any software to be used on any US 3G networks. The phone will work on Edge data and will be able to make and receive voice calls.
Many thanks for this clarification. So I have to sell it here and buy the correct model in US.
Me and seemingly hundreds of other users are waiting to see if it is possible to unlock the March 24th-released T-Mobile US HD2 and also to see if it is possible to connect to 3/3.5G networks outside the US/Canada before we purchase. Please post any experiences you have of:-
1. Unlocking the T-Mobile US version of the HD2 to use on other carriers (say how you did it and which carrier you changed to).
2. Using the T-Mobile US HD2 on a 3/3.5G network outside of North America (say which country and carrier and download speeds).
3. Flashing the T-Mobile US HD2 to different ROMs/radios.
I have contacted a carrier in Taiwan (FarEasTone) and they said that it "should" work there on the 2100Mhz band if it is unlocked but I want solid proof before I lay down the cash.
I found this old link www gsm-forum.eu/smart-phones-pdas-palm-organizers/16571-htc-unlock-free.html that has software that might've unlocked older models of HTC phones. Might be worth a try or please share if you know of any other free software that does the same thing for the T-Mobile US HD2.
Please don't bother posting if you are just asking whether it works or not.
Thanks for sharing!
Unlocking the tmobile hd2 (1024Leo)
they are calling it the 1024Leo after the fact that it has 1 gig rom. You MUST use the spl 2 to unlock it and roms specifically made for tmo hd2.
Not sure if the euro band is there but you can check phone>> settings for bands supported. Tmos rom is not bad but not for me. Cant wait to redo it.
Here is a good link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5983094#post5983094
For my knowledge, I already tried T-Mobile Touch 3G at Taiwan by Taiwan Mobile network and it is working right now. Touch 3G has same band support with TMobile US HD2. I will receive HD2 in couple days, I will try it and post the result. TMobile use 1700Mhz and 2100Mhz together for 3G but all Taiwan 3G network use 2100Mhz or 900Mhz only.
Did anyone experience??
Did anyone experience the unlocked t-mobile HD2 to work with 3g outside the US????
I hope anyone could share the experience!!

I have used my unlocked t-mobile hd2 in Latvia, Netherlands, and United Kingdom so far, and had 3G in all three countries.
I am currently using mine in the Philippines and is doing great I am getting fast speeds on Globe Telecom Network. Speed is quite good switching from 3g to H most of the time.

I was in Europe last month and got a 3G connection in France (mostly Bytel) and the UK (mostly T-Mobile). Speeds varied from about 400Kb to 1100Kb. I was using a locked phone with a T-Mobile USA SIM. I talked to a UK T-Mobile dealer and he said they were using the 2100Mhz band for 3G. Prepaid SIM cards were available everywhere. I didn't use cellular data that frequently (mostly sent pictures with WiFi) so I never bothered to get the phone unlocked.
Brazil
I Live in Brazil and my operator is " 3G BRA BrTCelular Oi "
I buy my T-Mo HD2 on april unlocked on US
Until the update to 2.13 my phone freeze many times when I connected on 3G network and next received a call
After update to 2.13 no more freeze problems
Finally!!!
Wooooooooooooohhhhhhoooooooooooo!!!
Just got the phone, and the 3g network is working perfectly like a charm!!!
Thank God!!
Awesome phone!!! I love hTC!!
So that makes Africa included with the others and especially Egypt for the TMOUS working for 3g network outside the US!!
Go ahead HD2 lovers BUY........ and ENJOY!!!
1. Unlocking the T-Mobile US version of the HD2 to use on other carriers (say how you did it)
does anyone know how to do this and have the appropriate numbers etc ???????
...you either buy an unlocking service somewhere online, or call T-Mobile customer care and request an unlock code if you are a current T-Mobile customer.
t-mobile US HD2 uses HDSPA 17/2100 bands for 3G so anywhere those bands are present, you should get 3G (unless the local carrier is blocking it for non in network phones)

do you think it will works with me in Jordan using ORANGE 3G???

Data works in England
My husband and I are in London with our unlocked TMOUS HD2 and LG Optimus T phones, and I can get 3G on Vodafone prepaid. All I had to do was dial 191 on my handset to get Vodafone customer service, and told them that I am visiting from the U.S. using an unlocked HTC HD2, and would like the APN settings for the data connection. The rep sent me a couple of text messages, one that said the set up text was also coming and what PIN to use to run the set up executable, and the other message contain the set up executable. It worked straight away, and the 3G service is pretty quick. I have looked at a YouTube video with no stutter, and launch web pages without delay. I am very pleased.
I unlocked my HTC HD2 to use it with AT&T at SuperUnlockCodes for a very cheap price and quickly.
as O2 are going to be running a 4G trial in the UK - has anyone heard/do you think that the Xoom 3G may get an update like the US does for 4G networks?
Interesting. I didn't know that O2 were doing that!
I don't think, however, that Moto would plan anything based on a trial of 4G from one UK network. That's not to say that it wouldn't be possible to upgrade it in future, I just don't think it'll happen very soon.
Been looking around for some info on the UK version of the XOOM and was hoping someone would be able to help out.
1. Is the 3G version of the XOOM going to be locked, like the US one, or would I be able to import it to Sweden and use it with any of our 3G providers?
2. When is it being released?
3. Is there any stores/webstores in the UK that delivers/ships outside of the UK?

I'm also thinking of buying a Xoom 3G version from UK.
1. You can buy a sim free Xoom from the US also, but it won't work in our 3G (UMTS) networks, because they have the CDMA version in US. The European version should work just fine if you buy it sim free.
2. I have read it should ship on 9 April.
3. I have not found one. As far as i know, there is only one shop that will be selling the 3G version sim free and it only offers shipping to UK (but that's not a problem for me, as i have a friend there).
o2 Tweeted it last night:
We're the only people trialling a live 4G network in UK - our six sites can carry as much traffic as an entire national 3G network #asko2

The test was completed in november 2009; it would be strange to run a test for a new spectrum when the bidding is already completed

I think in this instance a test and a trial are two separate things. O2 already successfuly tested a connection but are now going to run a trial, which will probably involve real punters getting involved.
I'm about to buy a xoom in the US without any contract. I would go for the 3G one (Verizon but without contract). Do you guys think I will be able to use it after unlocking? Do I need to unlock anyway, since it's without contract? Like the ones in Best Buy?
Tks for your inputs.
Cheers
Andrew
i think there should be no problem. I have us wifi xoom.... but one year ago i bought us nexus-one and there was no problem in using the 3g in europe (same freq).
or..maybe you are asking about 'provider sim-lock ' then i dont have an answer... but i believe its doable
Hi,
You can not use 3G from USA in Europe other frequencies and modulation methods, Wifi is okay
I also bought a US 3G (Verizon) model without contract and am using it in South Africa, but wifi only. The Verizion 3G works on the CDMA network whereas AFAIK Europe (as is South Africa) works on the GSM network so 3G is not going to work. The CDMA network works sim free so I'm not even sure if the sim slot is currently active and will probably only be activated for the 4G rollout.
If you buy it without contract there is however no need to unlock it or register it on the Verizon network to use wifi.
Thanks guys. I was thinking the same way as the mobiles are working here very well with EU GSM 3G, but the tab is not for the GSM as there is no phone function. Since I have my nice HTC HD2 with android and 3G, I will be able to share internet to the tab where wifi is not available. And of course the wifi version is much cheaper. Thanks again.
Hi,
This thread is for Chinese or people who live in China. You can discuss problem related to the Chinese version of the phone.
In China we have the N7100/N7105 and N7102 versions
Re: [Official] Galaxy Note 2 for Chinese user
If some of you get the problem "NOT REGISTERED ON NETWORK" after flashing a custom ROM here is the solution(thanks to zuleamu.
Well to be honest zuleamu found the solution but it was there all along on this thread from Ariza27->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918601
When you use Ariza27 solution don't be stiff and press the THANKS button.
Not a lot of Chinese users here.
Well, Chinese users usually prefer forums in Mandarin. I think the problems of the N7102 are pretty well documented in the N7102 thread. Any news if Samsung China has done anything to solve them?

Well if you know it's a fake, there is not much we can do for you here.
I live in mainland China (Beijing) and own the GT-N7100; my unit is the international version from Hong Kong to be more precise.
The guy who sold the phone to me (a friend's friend...) said that it was lock-free and that I would be able to use any SIM card in it.
While it didn't matter too much at first, it does now. I bought a China Telecom SIM card hoping it would work but it doesn't seem to.
I don't know anything about phones to be honest, but I'm usually okay with electronics and gadgets and I've been playing around for a bit.
My problem is the following: When I scan for network, I am only able to find CMCC (China Mobile) and China Unicom networks. I tried changing some stuff in the settings and playing with the *#197328640# menu, following my friend's advice, but it didn't help.
Is that specific model incompatible with China Telecom networks and unable to use CDMA2000? (It's supposedly unlocked/sim free....)
My baseband version is N7100BUALI8 and the build number is JRO03C.N7100ZSALJ2.
As I said, I don't understand phones too well yet. I read those forums a bit but I'm still confused.
Is my modem not adapted to mobile networks in China? Do I need to change settings somewhere?
I didn't root the phone either by the way.
Please Haaaalp!
Hey, in reference to the China Telecom...I am not sure that you will be able to access that network, I am not sure about the technology that they use. I know that you can use EDGE with either China Mobile or China Unicom, but, I know that Telecom sometimes uses some lesser-known standards for 3G. I have never actually tried to use their GSM network, as over my 10 years here, I have never had access to it. I don't know how helpful that is...
I also use N7100 (International Unlocked Version) in Shanghai. I only have access to China Mobile (2G) and China Unicom (3G).
CDMA is not a GSM compatible technology.
Rooting only has to do with the file structure, nothing to do with the modem on the phone.
Anyways, I hope something I said helps.

Cda9er is right above. China Telecom doesnt use GSM technology as long as i think as they are using CDMA for their network.
China mobile - GSM for 2G but TD-SCDMA for 3G
China Unicom - GSM for both 2G and 3G (Perfect for our internation GT-N7100)
China Telecom - CDMA for 2G and 3G (I think)
So you can either use 2G china mobile as i am using or use 3G from China Unicom. Hope this helps.

I'd like to thank both of you for clarifying that! Exactly the answer I was looking for.
I had the feeling that it had to do with the technology used by the different phone companies.
I've been with China Unicom for a year now but I find their connection very unreliable.
Their 3G plans are kind of expensive and the network has a lot of weak/blind spots... I'll probably resell this phone and get another one compatible with China Telecom.
Thanks for all the replies guys!
Re: [Official] Galaxy Note 2 for Chinese user
TD-SCDMA is China mobile home grown 3G. You need their own phone to use their 3G and it's not as fast as the China Unicom. Normal N7100 won't have 3G on their network.

No need to pay 12 months in advance. But you need to go at China Unicom. If you buy a Sim card on these little shop you don't have 3G. You need to register with your passport at China Unicom.

Actually the Sim cards from the little shops are not bad, but you will have to go to Unicom anyway to activate the 3G so it's better to go right away, sometimes they have specials.
N7105
What about N7105 which suppose to be a 4G LTE phone? Can N7105 get 3G or 4G data in China? Seems China Mobile Hong Kong has 4G LTE. Does China Mobile or other cell phone company in mainland China have 4G LTE?
