Hi everyone,
Sorry if this question has been already treated, I didn't find any answer.
I will move to US soon and I'd like to use my Touch HD there. Can you tell me if my French HD will work in US with an american contract?
Thanks for your answer.
It will work but on Edge only. No 3G. I am assuming you have the European T8282 version not the Telstra Australian T8285 version which is only sold in Australia. The European version does not have the right 3G frequencies and can't be converted with any software to be used on any US 3G networks. The phone will work on Edge data and will be able to make and receive voice calls.
Many thanks for this clarification. So I have to sell it here and buy the correct model in US.

Hi to everybody! I would like to know if this device works 3G in Europe and EEUU, I mean, if I buy this device in Europe, can I use 3G in EEUU? I have read a lot about this device but all comments say that this is imposible because EEUU and Europe use differents bands. So is there any device that can do this? For example iPhone or any other htc.
Thanks a lot!
I'm sorry but wth is EEUU?
If it uses different bands, then it doesn't work...
If I'm correct EEUU is acronym for the Spanish term for the United States and as stated here in a couple of threads the version of the phone that has been announced will not work as a 3G device in the U.S. due to different 3G bands between Europe and the U.S. You'll have to wait for a U.S. version or one for Australia which would work with ATT.
Thanks for all the comments here in this thread. First, yes, you are right, EEUU means U.S., I didn't think about this when I posted it, sorry. So, when you say that I have to wait for a U.S. version, you mean that this device will work in U.S., of course, but it won't work here in Europe, is that right? I wonder if there is any version of this device that support both bands. Maybe this can be a silly question but I'm interested in devices that can support 3G in Europe and U.S. Thanks again!

What is being released is a version that will work in Europe for 3G and normal GSM. It will only work in GSM voice and EDGE data in the U.S., no 3G. If you're in Europe you're all set. For us Americans we either need to wait for a new version with U.S. frequencies or buy the current version and only get voice and EDGE data speeds.
hey just joined the forum and am very excited to get my hands on this phone. I will be purchasing from asia (hong kong) but am currently residing in Canada which leads to my question:
Will an hd2 purchased from asia be compatable with the 3g and edge network connections available in Canada?
Sorry if the quesion is a repeat.
Thanks
I have the same question, I already buy a HTC touch diamond from asia and the 3G never work in canada. I want to buy a new HTC HD2 but a don't want to have the same problem...
Any information ?
hey guys, just a quick question, for the HD2, is there a model that would work with 3g and one that wont, becuase i know that was the case with the regular HD with models 8285 and 8585 i think, or something like that, so before i buy one, i just want to know that the phone will work with 3g becuase i want to buy an HD2 this weekend
until you are not in US, every HD2 will work on 3g... in US, none of HD2`s will work on 3g...
well i am in the US, so there is no way to get 3g
Hello,
Thank you upfront to anyone who can answer my questions. Bleeding edge is vague and a lot of hearsay at times; it's nice to have simple, straight-forward, and accurate answers on this site.
I have T-Mobile in the USA; I'd prefer not to change. I see reports the Streak will only work with 3G from ATT and be limited to EDGE on T-Mobile. Is this true? Ack!
If so, I have some questions I wonder if people know the answer to:
1.) Likelihood 3G support will be added (via radio firmware or something) for T-Mobile? Will they have a different model I'll have to buy?
2.) I see screen shots of some power users on this forum running T-Mobile 3G. Is this because it is the UK version on the UK network?
3.) If I get the UK version, will it work on T-Mobile's 3G here in the USA? Any danger in using the UK model in the USA?
Cheers!
Kyle
Yes it is t mobile UK and the specs have not been fully released yet for the US so its only speculation as what is on it and only some one from the US can answer the US questions about if it will work on t mobile US as i am from across the pond, but what i will say is the t mobile UK ones are either working with an unlocked streak or a rebel Sim so don't know if that will help you
Some of the posts I have seen for TMOUS running Rebel sim, is NO it does not work yet. I am sure it will work soon.
I'm about to buy a xoom in the US without any contract. I would go for the 3G one (Verizon but without contract). Do you guys think I will be able to use it after unlocking? Do I need to unlock anyway, since it's without contract? Like the ones in Best Buy?
Tks for your inputs.
Cheers
Andrew
i think there should be no problem. I have us wifi xoom.... but one year ago i bought us nexus-one and there was no problem in using the 3g in europe (same freq).
or..maybe you are asking about 'provider sim-lock ' then i dont have an answer... but i believe its doable
Hi,
You can not use 3G from USA in Europe other frequencies and modulation methods, Wifi is okay
I also bought a US 3G (Verizon) model without contract and am using it in South Africa, but wifi only. The Verizion 3G works on the CDMA network whereas AFAIK Europe (as is South Africa) works on the GSM network so 3G is not going to work. The CDMA network works sim free so I'm not even sure if the sim slot is currently active and will probably only be activated for the 4G rollout.
If you buy it without contract there is however no need to unlock it or register it on the Verizon network to use wifi.
Thanks guys. I was thinking the same way as the mobiles are working here very well with EU GSM 3G, but the tab is not for the GSM as there is no phone function. Since I have my nice HTC HD2 with android and 3G, I will be able to share internet to the tab where wifi is not available. And of course the wifi version is much cheaper. Thanks again.
