Arc housing, question - Xperia Arc General

Hi guys, happy new year
I'm thinking about buy a full replacement kit, also the buttons and the alu frame. I drop it one time and of cause it already had the crack over the light sensor. So my before beautiful Arc needs some care ;-)My question is, it's possible for me to do it my self or is to difficult?

i would love also to hear.....

Nobody ??
Sent from my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc using Tapatalk

It is slightly difficult because of all the ribbons and components inside the phone. The easiest bit is literally taking off the back cover. There was a disassembly guide in the forum somewhere.
However my advice is if you have little patience and are heavy handed then get it done from a local shop or something or from someone who has some experience

Reverse Stormtrooper X10

I used McKabepp's guide to succesfully change my white front housing to a black one. (piece of cake)

Sexy, I've always wanted to do this with my black X10.
Is the process easy enough for someone that has no past experience of taking devices apart but willing to read?

Just take your time and make sure you have the right tools and you will be fine.
I have not taken apart other touchscreen phone's before but I'm pretty technical myself and I didnt find it hard at all (and really, the hardest thing is seperating the back housing from the mainboard).
User ****nab made a stormtrooper phone too, but he made a little crack in the touchscreen module wich got bigger and now it is broken ...
I don't know how much force he used removing the module but I was able to bend the touchscreen module pretty far.
I just put it on the heater a couple of minutes so I could bend it a little and then I was able to slip a creditcard underneath.
I hope you will succeed!
nice.
thanks ^^

How'd you get your hands on a white X10 housing?

Holes in pants' pockets

Hi guys. Im just wondering if anyone else here have experienced this weird thing. I discovered that one of my pants' pockets has 4 holes in them and I'm sure they were caused by the Z's four corners because they are in the exact same position now I have to patch them! Haha.. The Z's really sharp... Literally!
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
Nothing here, because I never put the phone in my pants.
You should know that by putting the phone in your pants you're also taking quite a big risk. Many people screen broke while the phone was in their pants so be careful...

looool this happened to my old Jeans. Didn't think the XPERIA Z caused it I just thought they were a cheap pair of jeans.
The Xperia Z is large and edgy, so this can happen to any pants. It's very important to carefully slip the phone straight in your pockets (in the right angle), otherwise the fabric may tear after a while (even with expensive brand jeans).
Prolonged mobile frequency radiation can cause adverse effects in the pants department
I'm sorry to say this but,.. I don't suppose you maybe thought about not putting phone in pants pocket if you're wearing tight pants? Not only its can damage your pants, it can also break your phone and even worse, it makes you look stupid.
this is a dumb question. seriously.

I have two loose pants, one for work, they both have holes because of Xperia S and Xperia Z., very funny to find this thread about it
Yea, let's all blame Xperia now for your wasted pants, right? If I were you, I would mail their support and ask for new pants because their product caused the problems with your outfit That makes sense.
Let's complain to Sony for it's sharp edge designed phone causes hole in the pants..

Waterdamaged phones

Hey everyone,
My Xperia Z1 Compact has been sent in to the repair center now because of a waterdamage caused by a leaking backcover / frame whick killed the camera button first and then the mainboard. All flaps and so were closed and no water got in that way. 2-3 weeks and I'll have my Z1 Compact again.
Anyone else who've been sending in their phones on warranty because of waterdamage? How did it go? Did they replace the phone or did they just repair it?

Man, I don't even want to know how Sony is going to handle warranty claims based on water damage.
It's going to be a nightmare. At least in Germany, where mobile phone companies try a lot of things to avoid a warranty repair / exchange.
How will it be possible for the consumer (and Sony) to determine whether it was an open port or a valid claim....?
How are things going to play out if Sony claims that it was an open port - and I'm sure it wasn't.
Those are the concerns that make me keep my Z1c dry at the moment...
Regards,
Yoko
maybe replace it with a refurbished one

Yup happened to me.
What happened was, I bought this in Taiwan on my honeymoon and to test the "WaterProof" claim, I threw it in the ocean in Guam, took under water photos with it and it died a few hours later.
Sony said that they it is waterproof only in FRESHWATER but the repair center was nice enough to send me a brand new replacement unit. Since this was a product outside of the USA region, they actually went out of their way to import it and send it to me. The process took a month but I'm happy they made the effort!
yep, my phone is for evetualy rain drops or drops from bath, i dont trust this device in the pool...

WOW!
That would never hapen in Germany, at least I have never heard of such a customer service!
Indeed the Z1c is only rated for fresh water with the explanation that salt water will conduct electricity between the two magnetic charger points...
I don't know about that, but at least they gave an explanation...

So there are more people who've been encountering this "issue". Hmm

My fones back is somewhat creaky.. should i be worried about this waterdamage stuff? I use it in water alot and dont want to ruin it but i got a waterproof fone cause i wanted a 'waterproof' one! I want to install the glass back to maby make it more solid.
howdy all,
bought my device early february in germany and took it into a freshwater pool standing and taking a couple of underwater face shots via the camera button.
shortly after that the display startet to get all distorted and i powered it off all the way and took out all cards. i thoroughly airdryed it with the car vents on my way back home and was able to revive it.
a couple of days later i repeated the procedure in the said pool and it killed the device - it shut down and upon restart it got stuck at the battery symbol.
all indicators had turned red even though i am sure i closed all holes correctly and did not exceed the depth limitations!
since there was no saturn in my city i returned it to mediamarkt, who luckily exchanged the device to a brand spanking new one- i doubt they send it to sony care center before that!
lucky me, i guess!
left wondering how far i can go with my new device and what the cause for this dreaded leakage might have been !!!???
greetz
Thanks for sharing your story. Maybe in this way Sony will realize that when they write IPX7 on their specs, people expect that rating to be real.
Sorry folks but I am not going to take a risk to use the phone under water just to take two silly pictures. I think it's nice to have a phone that you can use while it rains, but if I really want to take pics underwater I just buy a camera. Also this 30 minutes limit sounds kinda silly, I never heard a waterproof device that goes by time.
I am not sure how sony got that rating approved, or even if the rating is approved or not.
i put mine under water quite a few times (fresh water) never an issue. be certain your flaps are closed 'n stuff
i even showered with it for the heck of it
Update:
It seems like I will get a new Z1 Compact, as the servivce status has been changed to:

[rooted users] Show off your slow-mo (or 4K) videos here!

With the huge interest in the 4K and Timeshift Video mod, I figured now's better than ever to open a thread for sample footage either slow-motion or in 4K for those who are still in doubt whether or not to root their Xperia Z1 [Compact], or those who already have the mod installed and want to see what others can do with it. (those of you who have an Xperia Z1 [Compact] version that cannot be rooted - I recommend you don't watch these videos. You will get jealous and I do feel sorry for you)
To start this thread off, there's the amateuristic video I made:
Disclaimer: the mod does not work with the Xperia Z as far as I know - I've seen this question too many times all over the interwebz so don't even bother here. Other questions about the mod are welcome as long as it's not about the installing or flashing procedure.
Disclaimer 2: don't bother commenting about my fingerboarding skills either, I'm seriously not serious about this.

You have some guts taking this phone underwater. I will never do that esp after seeing so many people cry as their warranty was denied bcoz of waster insertion.
Water is the best cooling agent

I put my phone two times in water, I washed it two times also. No problems at all. Just the sound is a little lower when the water touch the phone.
But, after 10-15 min. it's all the same.
I don't wanna lose warranty with rooting and putting these features, but I'm eager to get them...
Putting your phone under water has higher risk of voiding your warranty rather than rooting your phone.

Hahaha, I did it a few times now, we'll more than a few let's say about 20 and no problems. the sound is lower because it clogs the speaker and mic but it's back to normal as soon as it dries out. this is my second Z1 (the first had some headphone problem and they replaced it) and both have survived numerous submersions

My phone got drowned with water, and covered under warranty. Because if the water damage was not for the users own fault, eg not closing flaps or something caught in them breaking the seal.
If Sony finds the phone has had water inside, the first thing they do is ensure that the flaps etc are closed and clear of debris, then conduct a pressure test, submerge the phone in water. If water is detected inside, then you have warranty because it is obviously a manufacturing or repair (if applicable) defect.
Lol at the people afraid of putting their phone under water. I've lost count of the times I've washed my phone or gone in the pool with it.

I wish service center here do the same test. Once I went there for touch issue and another guy brought his phone. The service center reception guy just told him that his warranty is void as water has entered and told his to pay 50% of the actual price to get a new one.
For my touch issue he told that I have enabled "show touch" in developer option and that's why I have it ?

Lol same here, I got my phone damaged somehow maybe after taking a shower with it( started flickering right after), and all flaps were closed etc but the screen started flickering and eventually died, sent it to sony, got it back with a new screen and outer housing, now the question is, is it still waterproof?
Have not rooted it yet, i got lazy to downgrade my firmware then root, then upgrade to keep root, currently the latest and greatest firmware cannot be rooted on the c6916

from there you can edit speed of any selected part again
It's more like who doesn't put their phone under water. 1 of the main selling points for this phone at the time anyway. I have done it countless times and no issues at all. I paid for a water proof phone it will take a dip with me when i want it to.

I've noticed the Three page has gone up but all the details are about the Z2 and there are no tarrifs yet. Can't post the URL because I am a new user but browse to the Z2 page and replace Z2 with Z3. eg.

I wanted the white Z3 but o2 don't have it listed, just black and mint silver...I had the white Z and black Z1 and I was happy to go back to white now Sony have made all of it white, but now I'm stumped what to go for. Black is a safety colour however I'm intrigued about the mint silver which is exclusive for o2...think I'll go to the shop tomorrow and see it and then do my refresh upgrade from my HTC m8, it will cost me £360 to upgrade now but can trade the m8 in for £220 so not bad really....It's well worth being on this refresh plan!

I see, that's a pain as I can only upgrade direct with o2 on their refresh plan...I'll have to decide between black and mint silver.
Just been and got mine from o2, they only had 2 blacks left so I went for the safety option.
Got mint silver myself, luckily they had more than one as the first had a really bad light bleed patch in the middle of the screen

Just had to exchange mine as the camera wouldn't focus, close up was fine but everything else came out as a blur!
Luckily a store by me was still open, they could've exchanged it for the mint silver but I wasn't too keen on it.

Hi,
Yes, it comes with the push in ear bud type of phones/hands free (I don't like those sort myself, but...). Also included is an OTG lead, charger wall plug with separate USB lead, and a screen protector (matt finish) for the front.
This is a UK, unlocked handset only phone.
No dead pixels on my one, and no issues with the focus on the camera.

Yeah, I've not really used the OTG lead very often on previous phones - occasionally for transferring data, and I've used it to listen to music on wireless headphones. And just to try it out, I've put my wireless mouse dongle and keyboard in it and that works too. This was all on my S4, yet to test it out on the Z3 but I assume it's the same.
I have put the screen protector on my Z3, but it's a matt finish and is collecting fingerprints. I much prefer it without one on. I'm just gauging confidence in the durability of the screen with regards to scratches before I run without one on at all. My past phones have had Gorilla Glass on them and I've not used protection and they have been scratch free.

I truly would like to know this as well. Thru out the years, I have had phone with gorilla glass and have had no screen protectors ever and have had no scratches ever! Now, I am carful as hell with my phones but my z2 I did the same as I usually do and I did get scratches. Front and back. My only guess is, this was because of the dragontail glass which is not as strong as gorilla glass when it comes to scratches. I do hope that sony went with gorilla glass this time. Anyone know for sure?
