i forgot the device lock password, how can I remove it? pls help.
this is a general android question and has nothing to do with GNote.. I don't have any information as never happened with me... this forum is packed with the same exact questions and there are many youtube videos explaining how to unlcok it back
As far as I recall, put it wrong a few times then you can recover it using your Google account.
Easiest way is to hard reset ( Vol up + Menu + poer - entre recovery mode, then select wipe data/factory reset - yes)
If you want to backup before hard reset, just install this
yes you cant make simple installation in locked screen, so first open above said link to PC, login with gmail account which you have on device, install it, it will install to device.
Now this applicatin will temporary disable lock screen, take backup of your req stuff n Hard reset
Notes:
This application will also run each time the device is booted so you can always bypass the lock screen.
This application does not remove or reset your pattern/PIN, it only temporarily disables the lock screen so you can access your device.
This method will not work on certain devices, but give it a go, it is free after all!

You're advising a device-wide wipe to remove a lockscreen password, overkill much?
If you've registered your Note with Samsung Dive, it can remove the lock screen and reset it remotely. Otherwise they can use your suggested app, then register and then reset it.
Good Idea, though 1 Q, Samsung dive unlock screen which is locked by Dive PW, does it unlock screen which is differently here in this case?
thanks. unfortunately I don't know the google account on the device...

So first of all you forget "your" password, and now you don't know "your" google account?
I don't suppose you know where "you" bought the phone from, or how much "you" paid either?
I think Thread shud b closed isn't ?
if i'm not wrong, you can reset your phone, you will always locate it with samsung dive, right ?

I think I have found another solution. Follow these steps.
1) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 100% BATTERY!!
2) Airplane mode on in wp7.
3) Make sure you have zune installed and have a msn acc signed in before doing step 4
****some people have said that you wouldn't need wp7 sdk tools installed so this is an option you can do IN my case i have the sdk tools installed
4) Disconect all connections on your computer.
***MAKE SURE PORT 443 ISNT BEING USED
*** also in my case i didnt turn off my antivirus (you can if you want to).
5) connect phone to computer and sync it.
6) make sure zune starts up and your phone is showing in zune pc application
7) make sure that your phone isnt locked or the screen isnt off
8) start chevron running with admin priv. *(doesnt have to be in root of c)(i left mine in a folder in desktop)
9) load any app of any choice from other guides
*(i recommend doing the unlock reg hack install FIRST!!! B4 DISCONECTING THE PHONE FROM THE COMPUTER[to keep the phone from relocking its self] and the hd7 reg hack install [if you want to download apps from the market].)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913748

AFTER THIS HACK I CAN RESTART MY PHONE AND SYNC WITH ZUNE AND IT WILL NOT RELOCK THE PHONE BEFORE I HAD TO UNLOCK AT ALMOST EVERY RESTART...

i have done all that.
Phone is unlocked without any problem.
But when i try to deploy a xap file with tom xap installer it says make sure you're phone is unlockend.
Usb cable is connected and zune is running.
All ready did a master reset, turning off wifi and on airplane mode.
Date and time auto is off.
Can any one help me with this?
hate to say it - dont think its as simple as a master reset - think youll need to reformat sd and reflash wp7.
if sd is buggerd, use 'panasonic sd formatter' with 'format size adjustment' on.
then i guess ud need to follow the tried n tested guides on forum to finish off the install
flashed back to 6.5, format the sd.
Then step by step by the book to 7.
Still same error, unlock without a problem but can't deploy a xap to the phone
If your phone is unlocked and you can't deploy with XAP....try Aplication Deployment from Windows Phone Developer Tools (you'll find it in start-all programs-....). XAP gives me errors so I use this tool...and it works like a charm

I also tried that yesterday.. But i think in order for it to work you need to activate the program from Microsoft!
is there a way to work around that?
I read that more people use the MS program to sideload the apps.
Did the sign in?

actually i installed the wp7 sdk from the microsoft website and didnt activate anything. For me i use the M$ program because it doesnt open with an error like the other sideloading app that i used.
For those of you who have an error completing the setup wizard, this is how I bypassed it.
1. From the wizard, on the Samsung account screen, select sign up for new Samsung account
2. Select log in with Facebook - which launches a browser
3. On that page click and hold a word to select it
4. Scroll to the right to do a web search
5. Select Chrome
6. Navigate to facebook.com
7. Click the link to download the app which launches the Play Store
8. In Play Store download Nova launcher and then launch
9. From here you can enable developer options and USB debugging
10. Root again and reboot
11.From here, you can use your ADB skills to rename/remove the SetupWizard.apk and SecSetupWizard2013.apk files from /system/app, or as I did, repeat the steps 1-7, install Root Explorer and alter the files that way.
12.Reboot
I hope this helps until we can install a custom recovery and flash ROMs.
Thanks to RandomHandle for helping me repeat the process to verify it worked, as well as clean up the instructions!
I followed all of the steps but for some reason I can't rename or delete the setup files. I re-rooted and even installed root checker to make sure I had root access but it's not letting me touch them.
Did you mount as R/W ?
I am able to rename those files with Root Explorer.

When you do the factory reset, do you get the setup wizard on the first boot? The Samsung account login is a few pages in after the personal information.

Yeah unfortunately that is the only way to get into the browser to be able to get out of the wizard. Looks like you need to wait for the official firmware release.

Hello everyone,
I have Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Omega Rom android 4.4.2
I installed an anti theft app called 'Android Lost'.
I installed it on my phone and went on to their site to try out some of the commands after it had registered with my google account and whatever else it does. I sent a command to my phone to lock it with a pin. My phone received the command but it didn't do what it was supposed to do. It removed the pattern lock that was on my phone and left it open to unlock without any sort of password or pin. I tried the command again and it did not work.
I gave up as I was in a rush to leave and left the house. I then tried to set a pin on my phone again and the option wasn't grayed out or anything but when I selected it and set the pin, my phone would freeze and then after a minute it would unfreeze but "swipe" would be selected. I was able to set a pattern but nothing higher security than that. Also, even when pattern was selected and I tried to set a pin, it would set it back to "swipe". I also noticed that now I am always getting a message that says "my sd card can now be removed safely" even when I didn't select for it to be removed.
I uninstalled the app and it unregistered me from the servers and all of that, but everything is still the same. Still getting the sd card message, and still can't set a pin.
I have tried the method of incorrectly entering my pattern and using google to change to a pin, that didn't work, just set it to swipe and the sd card message was still appearing.
I also tried clearing all credentials like someone mentioned, but the option is grayed out so I can't select it, and my sd card isn't encrypted and either is my internal storage.
I even went as far as manually going to each credential and disabling it, this did not fix anything either.
Today after not having any replies on the Android Lost website, I decided to factory restore my phone after backing everything up.
This, to my surprise, still did not fix the problem. Now I have a wiped phone and still can't set a pin, and am still being told my SD card can be safely removed.
I tried factory restoring several times, still no fix. I have also tried reflashing my rom, still have same issue.
I am so lost at what to do, maybe there is a cache I can clear or something on top of restoring the phone to clear the credentials as they all seem to be the same still after restore, or maybe it has something to do with my google account, or a server still sending commands to my phone or has set a lock on it. I'm not sure.
Thanks for reading, sorry if it was a bit long, I rarely post to forums as I can usually solve problems by myself by searching.
All help appreciated!
EDIT: I have been taking notes when flashing and factory resetting. The security credentials are staying the same even after each wipe and reflash. Is there any way to clear these manually as the button is still greyed out to clear them? I'm wondering if this has anything to do with not being able to set a pin and ejecting my sd card.
I ran into same issue today, couldn't enable PIN. I use stock NF4, rooted. Still haven't found the cause for that.
EDIT: Found this.

same thing happens when i updated mine to FNF4 kitkat
mine was having the same issue aswell, when i try to setup a pin or a pattern for my security, itll just freeze for a while and still swipe option has been chosen and when i try it once more,,it does freeze again and my sd card was already unmounted.,what was that thing happen,is it becoz of the root and security policy builds in the new update?

Hi!
I just recieved my P9 Lite L31 and I can't find the encryption setting. I can also access /data from TWRP without entering a password. Further research into this revealed that Huawei has built phones in the past that do not support system-wide encryption whatsoever.
This is absolutely unacceptable and makes this fancy new device completely unusable for me.
Am I missing something here or is there really no way to enable encryption?

You can access the encryption option via activity launcher. Download the activity launcher from playstore, open it -> select "all activities" tap on "settings" app and find the "encrypt phone" option -> tap on it and here you go

Sorry to bump this again, but it doesn't seem to work for me. It shows the green Android for a few seconds and then just reboots without encrypting anything. I thought that it might be related to having it unlocked and rooted, so I locked it again and flashed a clean stock ROM, but it still won't work.
Any ideas?

I heard somewhere, that Huawei phones are already encrypted (in Huawei's way) so that's maybe why it doesn't work

Nope, I can access /data without any passwords from TWRP and it also doesn't prompt me for a password when booting.
I think maybe you had format data partition through the twrp, which makes the encryption invaild, otherwise, the encryption feature is default enabled.

When I reset the device to 100% stock and then just flash TWRP in the bootloader without formatting anything, files are still accessible. And the "Encrypt your phone" setting is accessible regardless.
Is there a sure way to confirm that encryption is enabled through the shell?

Why do you need the encryption too much? It only slows down the device and from my experience I've never needed it, because I didn't lost any of my phones. And if i'll lost my phone some day, it's protected by fingerprint or gesture/pin (and nobody can access my data, because i've got locked bootloader and i don't use any custom recovery) and i can easily wipe the phone via device manager from my pc.

The slowdown isn't noticeable in daily use and unencrypted data is always recoverable, even if unlocking the bootloader formats the device. Whereas encrypted data isn't recoverable at all. It's a no-brainer for me to encrypt my devices, especially if I'm going to take them with me where they can be lost or stolen. I just want that massive increase in safety and comfort that doesn't cost me anything.
But you're right, it would be pretty unlikely that anyone is going to put in that much work to recover essentially useless data. Still, I like the thought of not having to worry about anything if I lose my device.
Same issue here. In my other phone (Redmi 3) the option is present and actually encrypts the phone data. (twrp asks for password)

Perhaps the reset mechanism is not complete and won't format the data.
The p9lite TWRP developer was provided by a chinese developer, he said the data is encrypted and he also provided a guid of how to decrypt:laugh:

I am on stock 8.0 after the update during a call the phone buzzed and made a loud sound like a siren. After the crash I used it and got message of abnormal restart. I decided to hard reset it. The phone buzzed for about 30 seconds at least and then booted giving me an error uDove to send to HTC. I sent the error and updated all apps to set up.
1. Since then whenever I wake up the phone with the fingerprint or open an app the current window goes white and gets minimised as an app would do. Or as if a pop up goes on and gets closed by an adblock (in desktop).
2. I noticed also lags in performance and battery drain.
All my apps are basic and from play store (major publishers and no games at all) With HTC support I used the phone in Safe mode and no problems where observed. I thought it was htc sense update that was causing the issues however it is not the case. I am lost and do not know what to do. The phone is annoying to use and 4 hard and soft resets did not improve anything.
I ran every check with the HTC utility and nothing significant was reported (all passed ok), During the following hardresets the bootloader gives error

Looks like partitions map is damaged (hard to read the photo). My educated guess is that you either get a RUU from HTC and let the phone recover everything fresh or unlock boot loader and install custom ROM.
Can you use superuser rights via adb in the HTC recovery mode?

HTC is sadly ignoring/abandon the U Ultra. Pity.
NVM
RUU is ROM Update Utility - it is an HTC format for update packages. Sadly, Oreo hasn't been made available by HTC.
Since (presuming) you are still under warranty (no unlocked bootloader etc.) I advise to hit the HTC service center and tell them that their OTA went wrong.
Alternatively I could only think of unlocking the bootloader and doing the fix yourself.
Whitch CID do You have? Is it single sim or dual?
I as an update the phone is getting worse the more I use it. I screen blacks out for few seconds and then back to normal. Something like voltage issues. If anyone knows the UK repair service I would appreciate the details. They are not responding e-mails and chat is not helpful at all.
It is bought with UK plug so I assume it is the ones in UK?

Hello everyone, after buying a new device (huawei) and after 4 visits to the repair center my phone seems to be replaced with another one. unfortunately the battery was changed and it is worse than ever (after a hard reset it says it was last fully charged 223days ago.
I solved the problem by doing a hard reset and not updating the google app. My last reported version (installed by HTC) is 7.17.28.21.arm64 (my device is HTC U ULTRA but same problem). After this everything else runs smoothly etc.
I believe it relates to new features of the app that change completely how it manages the device
• Use voice commands while navigating – even when your device has no connection. Try saying "cancel my navigation" "what's my ETA?" or "what's my next turn?"
• Weak connection? If your search fails, the Google app will deliver you results once you regain connection.
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues with more helpful error cards when your search fails because your device is offline
• New customization options available for cards in your feed
