50gigs of free cloud storage - Nexus S General

No root required...Just did this and wanted to share.. Totally works, it's some lg promo but we can all get it.. Here's the link

I'll admit the 50GB looks tempting, but it's really not as nice as it looks. There's a 100MB file cap on files you upload, you get 10GB bandwidth per month, and there's no desktop client, along with a bunch of other "paid only" features that really drag this down.
That being said, it's not bad to have around. I use it just for dumping random files that I share here and there.

seems to be another dropbox type site, but I got 10GB right off the get go. Just thought I would let everyone know about it.

Btw, they tweeted earlier that you can get up to 50GB for free when signing up.

The box.net you have to sign up with more than one email for a collaboration account we(TRN) use one to share files between devs I may need to look into this one for personal use tho, how are the upload speeds I used opensync for a while but it took forever to upload anything u were limited to 500mb at a time and upload bandwidth was low Id say 100kbps Max so I gave up I just sync to and external drive for my backups now

Uploading seems to go pretty quick. Not quite as easy to navigate as dropbox, or share to be honest. But for the amount of space, I am still a supporter.

Yeah, not to shabby. I was under my wifi. Threw a couple songs, and pics up. I will still say I like the user interface of dropbox better still. But again you can't beat the amount of storage you get.

4shared Giving Free 15GB Storage.

I dont know if most of yall already know what this this but any ways 4shared
is similar to dropbox but i just signed up and they gave me 15gb free online storage
and also there os an android app in the market.
I figure id share the info if you didnt know because i just found out. lol

Does it have a desktop app that's as good as Dropbox, for free? If not, yawn.
Also, 4shared has bandwidth limits and waiting times. Dropbox has transfer (not bandwidth) limits, and direct, unf'd-with links.

[REF] Dropbox User Guide

I wrote this guide for those of you, like myself, that are new to using Dropbox. Since T-Mobile and Sprint are offering 50GB free for two years I decided to try it out. So far I've been very impressed with it. Hopefully this guide will help you maximize your Dropbox experience.
Setting up your Dropbox account:
During the initial phone setup there is a screen showing the 50 GB free offer. I signed up at this time. (If anyone can confirm if you can get back to this screen later please let me know and I'll add it back to the guide. I assume you can get back to it by going back into Dropbox on your phone if you haven't sign up yet but I wont be able to test this unless I reset my phone which I wont be able to do until next week because I have family in town for my son's first Bday and don't have time to re-setup everything yet. )
If you already have a Dropbox account log in from the phones offer screen using your current account. If you don't have an account yet you can make an account on your phone, but I would advise making one ahead of time on a computer to take advantage of an extra 500MB from a referral. If you have a friend that uses Dropbox ask them for their referral link. They will gladly give you this because they (and you) will get an extra 500MB for the referral. You just click the link they provide and provide a name, email address, and a password. Then after the account is setup, use that login information on your phone. If you don't have any friends that use Dropbox yet, feel free to use my referral link for the extra 500MB (http://db.tt/Msdz5Yxe)
When you login to your account you will not see the 50GB yet. Don't be alarmed. You will receive an email explaining that you need to do the "Get Started" guide once you do five of the seven steps in "Get Started" you will be awarded your 50GB. These steps are easy things like complete the Dropbox walkthrough, install Dropbox on another computer, upload files to Dropbox, etc. They walk you through all of the steps.
How to get more storage for free:
If you want more free storage there are a few things you can do:
Upload files from your phone camera or other USB device - You get up to 3GB of free space by uploading pictures to drop box. 500MB increments until you've uploaded 3GB. Sounds like you can get 3GB from Phone upload and another 3GB from uploads from computer client but I've only been able to get 3GB total. If anyone else can confirm this please let me know.
Refer friends - you get 500 MB (and so do your referrals) for each person you refer, up to 16GB
"Get Free Space!" - You'll notice a get free space link at the top right of the Web interface there are all sorts of little things you can do to get more space like write a comment to Dropbox and connecting your Twitter or Facebook account with Dropbox.
Scavenger hunts - Periodically DropBox will do scavenger hunts were you can get free storage for participating. The most recent scavenger hunt is closed, but here is a link showing some info about what it is http://blog.dropbox.com/?p=1194
It's not free, but you can also pay for more storage if you need more.
Security:
If you are security conscious you can encrypt your data before you put it on Dropbox. Truecrypt works well for PCs. I'm researching options for android and will add that info here.
I have not tried this yet but I'm going to try to use Cryptonite to see how well it works
http://code.google.com/p/cryptonite/
Other Tips:
I plan on putting my KeePass database in Dropbox so that I have my passwords everywhere. There is an Android implementation of Keepass on Google play
If you have any other tips for Dropbox please let me know and I'll add them here.
NOTE: Keep in mind this 50 free GB is a 2 year promo by Dropbox and Samsung and at the end of the 2 years you will need to purchase storage from Dropbox or move your data elsewhere. Still pretty cool for 2 years though. You will get to keep 2GB of the 50 for free plus any of the free space you earned using the techniques above.
It has been said in the dropbox forums that if you have free space in your dropbox account already, such as 5gb, that the 50gb is added to that free space. So if you had 5gb of free space now that you would end up with 55gb. Can this be confirmed?

Its UP TO 3GB, you have to transfer 3GB of pics from phone to drop box, it will increment in 500MB chunks
Also works the same for setting up the drop box pc app to sync via usb to your drop box when you plug in your device, also another 3gb possible, again in 500mb chunks
Not sure if they are still doing this, but they were also giving 3GB for syncing your videos / pics from PC to drop box, but that was a beta offer and i think you had to be doing the sync beta a couple months ago
Also there was "Drop Box Adventure 2" basically an internet scavenger hunt a couple weeks back, might try googling it and see if they still have that up, i think that was a gig or 2
I can also confirm that if you have an existing account with drop box that the 50GB will add to your existing pool, I for example have 59.9gb of storage
Also keep in mind that these 50GB will only be available to us for 2 years, after which time you will need to pay, i believe its 99/yr for 50gb
Still waiting on my 23GB from my One S and I completed the Getting Started a long time ago, hopefully I get my extra 48GB with my SGS3

Yeah, not allowed. Its not a "deal".

You sign up for Google ads and get free money on it.. then you link those adds to your drop box. When you have the preset "x amount" of adds you wanted to use all free ad money. Stop it and freeze account. With adds u can get a lot of drop box space

Or just sign up for G-Drive (5GB Free, which all G-Docs do not count to data limit)
Or Cubby.com (Also 5 GB) (I have invites)
Or Box.net (50GB when you signup from an Android Tablet)
Or SkyDrive (Don't know Limit, but higher than DropBox)
Or... do it like me. Had an HTC One X, got 25 GBs from there. Traded up to a Samsung Galaxy S3, and got an additional 50 GBs. Have 75 GBs and all I did was sign in on my phone.
Magical, eh?

Ok, so the problem I have is I want to do a backup of about 30gb of photos. However, most of the mentioned solutions cost too much or do not have a method to upload folders of photos, they want individual files chosen. I have a 25gb sky drive and a 50gb box.net.
You can't possibly expect a service to be cheap.
Just buy a backup HDD then.
Sorry, can't allow it.

[Q] 50gbs free cloud storage?!

This might be old news to the forum and if so I'm sorry but LG is running a promotion thru September 2014. If you install the box app through their lgworld app store you get 50gbs free!
It's pretty sweet so I thought to share with the XDA community that let's me run CM11 on this beast of a phone.
i can confirm this works

I installed Box from the play store and got it.
Unless I'm missing it, Sprint phones don't have the LG World app. We have an lg update app, but not the lg world.
some limitations ? files ?
I didn't know about LG World and thanks for the info.
I tried it on may G2 running CM 11 and I got it as well. :victory:
I think that is standard for Box when you open a new account with them. Maybe Im wrong though.
Is that 50GB storage for life or just one year or any limited?

I'll let you in on a secret. Box checks your device by reading the build.prop file. So the ROM doesn't matter, as long as it identifies itself as an G2.
I've known people to grab a demo phone at a store, install box, log in, get the upgrade, then delete box from the phone...
Also known people to make changes to build.prop on a different phone (go look at the forums for some other phones), then install box to get the upgrade. Then revert the build.prop file back.

haha i was thinking that on the way home earlier In theory anyone who is rooted can get this promotion with any device, all you would have to do is temporarily change the device model in the build.prop and download box
(may test this theory on my old note) EDIT: nvm, forgot it has no battery
EDIT 2: I didn't read your post fully, i see you have already mentioned what i said haha
How much cloud space is everyone rocking these days? I have 50 from box, 77.5 from dropbox and 15 from google drive.
How much do I use? Maybe 10 on dropbox, but Ill take all the free space I can get!

Some space is more useful than others.
For free Box accounts, the max file size is a miniscule 250mb.
For Dropbox, there is no file size limit at all (except if you upload through their website, in which case it's 10gb).
Google Drive has a 10gb limit.

250MB limit is a complete joke. I understand that the space is free. It's probably free because no one can use it in the real world.
For what it's worth. Mail.Ru (a giant Russian company) is offering 1TB of cloud storage as a promotion until 1/20/14. You need to get in on the promotion by that date, the 1TB doesn't expire by that date. Here's what you do:
Sign up for an account:
http://e.mail.ru/signup?from=login&lang=en_US
Go through this link and click on the "Get" button (the black button in the center of the bottom of the page). This page will be in Russian, but you can use whatever translation service you like if necessary (ie. the one built into Chrome):
http://cloud.mail.ru/promo/
Install their Android client from Google play and log in:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.mail.cloud
That's it. Once you do that, the initial 100GB of free cloud storage becomes 1TB.
The Android client is not bad. It gives you automatic camera upload options, much like Dropbox. I'm not sure of the file size limits though.
I think I have about 3 or 4 50GB online storage from various providers and many fewer-GB storage from others, but honestly I'm using less than 1% of each, in fact, some has Zero byte in it. For some reason, I am not a big fan of cloudy. I don't want to load my personal stuff up there, that including pictures, family pictures left alone any sensitive documents. I currently use 2GB dropbox acct. and using total of 20MB with my biggest file is 549KB JPEG and many other 200KB .txt.
I guess I'm an old fashion dude.
