My xperia arc has been horrible with battery lately...
Ever since a few weeks ago, the battery would go from 100% to 20% in about 12 hours, but before it would go from 100% to about 60%.
I can't even go a full day without needing to recharge it. Sometimes, the battery graph would show the battery recharging, even though it is not plugged in. So sometimes the battery charge would go: 40-39-38-37-36-35-48-47-46.... But it also sometimes shows steep drops like: 50-49-48-47-35-34-33
Even when I don't turn on the screen much, or text, or call, it still uses about 5% battery per hour. When I check what's been using the battery, it's usually cell standby, display, etc.. Nothing that should be taking it down this much.
I tried using the PC companion to restore it, and that hasn't helped :/
After searching the internet, some people say that it is a problem with the kernal, but I'm having trouble understanding how to fix it.
Any help is appreciated!
Here's some information:
Model Number: LT15a
Baseband Version: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-56
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
Build Number: 4.0.2.A.0.42
It's a known "problem" that the later firmwares, such as yours, eat more battery.
But 5% on stock kernel is quite much.
That's as much as on DooMKernel which has a little battery drain bug.
Sent from my LT15i using XDA Premium App
Yea, it is way too much of a battery drain...
And I'm pretty sure I didn't update the firmware when the problem started occurring. Although I did update my phone a couple of weeks ago, the problem was happening before that.
What you can do right now is to repair the software with PC Companion.
If you do, try to run the phone without any 3rd party apps for some time so you can compare the battery performance you get with what you experience now.
The software you have is currently the latest one for arc. We are however planning to start a roll out of new software (4.0.2.A.0.6x) next week. It's a global roll out but all phones will not get it at the same time so I don't dare to say when you might get it.
It's mainly meant to fix the memory management to avoid reboots but it might have some impact on the battery too.

Will it be .62?

For some markets yes. For other markets I've seen .61 so for now I'll stick with .6x.
But this isn't the "big thing is coming"?

Ok, thanks. Already got that update. Muhaha
Just used .62 without mods for a few mins and it seemed got untill I flashed the Arconium ROM.
Arconium 5.6 really rocks and is based on .62 so the new update can't be bad

Just curious if anyone is happy with the Generic firmware and the bloatware removed?
I'm running the .62 firmware and yes it's rooted. (Plenty of post on the subject).
Removed most if not all the bloatware crap that comes with the Generic America blend.
Quite happy with the speed and the low memory usage. I even decided to check and see if I was experiencing a battery drain like some have and no I'm not.
A few tweaks here and there such as replacing the launcher, sms app. A skin here and there voilà. My phone looks totally different.
Here's another one satisfied with .62.
Yes, I really like it actually, even went back to the stock launcher (tried ADW EX, Nemus, Simple Home, Launcher 7).
I can't notice a difference between totally stock and a tweaked ROM, but they're both fast enough.
Nice lockscreen
Edit: my homescreen
HD Widgets, Xperia S Music player widget, Animated Clock (with second indicator )
I knew I wasn't crazy! I knew I could find other satisfied stock users
I am using .42 Generic UK Global on my rooted Arc.
Bloatware was not removed. No autokill.
System is very smoth and fast.
Battery lasts 2 days of medium use.
Tweaked .62 ROMs are the way to go
Arconium 7.0 all the way
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
Since they are similar bar a couple of minor config differences..... My NEO (no hijack intended) on stock .62 is stable and fast. Everything works, battery life kicks other brands in to touch. Very happy.
I simply boot with recoveryNeo, clear/reset everything, flash the stock ROM, boot in to recoveryNeo again and install rootxperia.
Install ES FE, remove the unwanted stuff and happy days! Taken it all over the world and never missed a beat. Quality.
Well until I do the TEST POINT method... other ROMS are not an option lol. But this said, I agree the .62 doesn't do much but I did some improvement on the operations.
I'm looking forward to the official ICS release for the xperia series.
I did remove a number of bloatware on it... I did see a REALLY big slowdown with them on it as some AUTOSTARTED. My battery well doesn't last that long, I'm a power user and I'm using it constantly so if I get 15hrs of constant use, txt, surfing, calls, searches, pictures etc... I'm happy. I am considering to get the mugen extended battery for 50$... would make a nice improvement on my battery life. If I happen to be on a BORING weekend the battery can last me a good 34hrs.
Noticed your signatures says "SENT FROM MY IPAD" I just sold my iPad 2 a few days ago and got myself the Transformer Prime.
I'm all about Android lol.
I stayed 4 months happily using my stock 042 ROM..
I was satisfied about the functionality and overall performance.
Right now I'm on Arconium 7.0 with DoomKernel, everything is better, no doubts on this, but you could live even with your stock device
Stock is working great for me until it doesn't then yeah I'll perform the TEST POINT method to get the bootloader unlocked and I'll continue from there. But for now it does everything that I need as it and it's fast and slick.
Going to wait and see what comes out this year for devices Been on the Xperia Arc little over 3months now I think.
Wasn't bad for a 100$ purchase from new sealed box from the store. They had an Xperia craze at Rogers and were letting them go for 100$
I'm still using .42 since .62 is one of the worst firmwares made by SE ever... With the xperia S theme and some customizations it works quite well!
I always had a thing for stock SE ROM, ever since my old X10. Not the fastest around but eye-candy and stable. There are elements that I haven't yet been able to find elsewhere.

Same on stock here, happy enough. Tried the different mods thought they all sucked to be honest. Always seemed to be something that didn't work, with exception to arconium and se tweaked. But on those 2 i couldn't really tell any difference so didn't bother sticking with them and just reverted back to stock.
I'm actually getting bored with nothing to do with my phone...
really happy with stock 0.62 tweak supercharger, root with unlock bootloader battery muck better from 0.42 and i when i talk sound is more clean to my phone.
Not got much choice at minute need to get sim unlocked so I can unlock my bootloader on my arc s

Just so that we might have some sort of clue if more people should get the same update soon or not.

I guess no. This might be a test build for the path towards stable Kitkat.
Certified doesnt always mean that it would be rolled.
I guess sony will go straight to 4.4KK...
It could be like last update: 14.2.A.1.114 (certified) ==> 14.2.A.1.124 (certified) ==> 14.2.A.1.136 certified and released.
So again: wait and drink a cup of tea
After releasing New Flagship Device they might release kitkat for Z range

Therefore, that it's only a minor number forward from the last fw (136), it won't be anything near kitkat!
Maybe a minor Bugfix or extended update from 136 but nothing major!
Wait until the buildnumber changes to 14.3.X. to guess when kitkat will arrive, just a hint

Kitkat won't be out before Barcelona - that's 100% and this could go out, maybe it's just some regional patch.

That are mainly hardware issues and I really doubt it could be ever fixed...
Maybe they will succeed to make it better - like touchscreen sensitivity and yellow tint...
But that's not software - I'm 100% sure, why?
Because I'm using 290 firmware and it's working fantastic.
Without any touchscreen problems, with real white and black colors on screen and with great battery life...
Every single firmware I tried worked perfectly...534, 290 or 136 - without a single glitch.

Actually the Yellow tint is a known software, not hardware problem . The touchscreen problem is iffy, some say hardware while some say software. I actually would say the Z1 is almost flawless hardware wise, the problems start on the software side (yellow tint, camera, bluetooth, etc.)
It's good because that means Sony can fix most of the problems on the Z1. They already fixed yellow tint and bluetooth, now the touchscreen and camera optimization should happen soon.

I would say it's mix, it's a software, O.K but only on some devices which are using different screens and other parts (bluetooth chip and other parts).
It's impossible that you have problems and I don't have if we all have exactly the same hardware...
So the conclusion would be - we are both half right

Yes. This is exactly the reason. You can also convert the dex files in the apk to readable classes and you'll see that the iEngine support specifically implements/calls the Co-Processor. And it will drain the battery pretty badly without the co-processor. So, I guess the Xperia Z is better off without these.
PS: I hate to admit it, but the Z has become "old"

Why?
BTW I think it already takes good pictures.
Maybe not as good as a newer Galaxy or Iphone but still very good. (But yeah it could be better with those hardware specs but maybe they are using their bad sample sensors for their own xperia's and hide behind "software problems" and they couldn't do that anymore when they would allow RAW?)

Ey, is everyone getting the sudden battery drop issue? You guys sure it ain't hardware related? Cuz if it is, I be selling my phone next month if this 5.1 update don't fix it. Gotta go back to removable battery like the G4 or Note 4, really gonna miss my Z1C though.

I'm not having any sudden battery drop issue, probably is battery problem. You could easily change battery if you want to give a chance to new battery.

I had the sudden battery drop issue. Tried many things. Finally replaced the battery, been fine since then (more than a month).
