[Q] link to busybox - Nook Touch General

I was following the following guide:
"Setting up root access on NST through adb and installing busybox"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20069222&postcount=3
But the download link to busybox is not working anymore.
Can I download it from somewhere else, has someone a link for me?
I googled it and found busybox.net but I am not sure what I need to download there and if this is the right one. Am a little bit carefull before I do something wrong.
So someone please provide me with a busybox download link.
Thnx in advance

Ok problem solved I think.
Found it on nookDevs site. If any one could also not find it and was wondering where I found it see the link below:
hxxp://nookdevs.com/Busybox
Edit:
could not post link cus I did not post 8 posts yet, but I assume you understand the the xx should be replaced for tt

Updated the links, sorry for the inconvenience.

i have no idea what to do now... please help..
*please do not flame me for not using the search function as i read few of them and i do not understand at all*

I personally used Evostance's guide, it was very simple and easy to follow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834427
That's the link. I do believe there are simpler methods now using Visionary. Just check the Development sub-forum and they have more tutorials there

Hey Sylpher,
I did tried to read Evostance's guide but where is the guide?
Step By Step Guide - Download link below
11/11/10 V2
http://www.multiupload.com/KK66WUNUWS
See the main thread for details on the root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805327 ----> i do not understand at all... all those code like listed below
Go to adb shell, switch to root (su) and do the following:
insmod /sdcard/wp-(version).ko
for example: insmod /sdcard/wp_g5ed1769.ko
This will disable wp (will be enabled on reboot though...)
dd if=/sdcard/hboot_eng.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
This will install engineering hboot
totally confused.
The link that he provides includes all the files + the tutorial (in a PDF file). So yeah just download that first and it should be quite straightforward from there on.

You can try this too, a member here compile it. http://hemorrdroids.net/overclock-undervolt-your-desire-hd/
if you dont already have a file explorer then download astro from market place
download visonary r12 from here and copy apk file to sd card on the phone and install from there
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...722/10-nov-r12-test-visionary-one-click-root/
download superuser from market place and install on the phone
make sure usb debuggging is enabled on the, also unkown sources is allowed phone(settings/applications/development)
run visionary and don not check any of the 3 box on the screen
run temp root and let it finish
then attempt perm root it will ask for super user permission, allow this and the phone should root and reboot
to test it has work down load adfree from market place and see if it runs, if it does you have full root
simples

Although I wouldn't recommend anyone to rush into the act of rooting their device, do bare in mind, that the exploit we are using to obtain root will be patched sooner or later, so whilst thinking about it I would be very wary of applying any future OTA upgrades as so you may find you once more have an unrootable device

do i need adb if im using ubuntu?

I'm thinking of rooting this kindle fire but all the directions are for Windows. I rooted my EVO on ubuntu without adb. Where can I find directions for rooting with Linux?
please please please check the forums. also it would be helpful if we knew what software version you were running.

Thanks 6.2.1
Getting ADB working is your best bet. Even if you can get it rooted without adb, it will save you a lot of headache later if something doesn't work.
Getting adb to work on Ubuntu with the Kindle Fire should just require downloading the sdk, running the SDK manager to install platform-tools, adding platform-tools to your path, editing ~/.android/adb_usb.ini to include 0x1949, and likely adding udev rules for it (you can find instructions on udev rules on quite a few forums, or read the README in /etc/udev/rules.d which might help).
Rootzwiki has instructions for rooting (not using KFU) and for installing TWRP afterwards too. Just follow the steps in jcase's thread for root and the TWRP post is stickied. I'd link, but I forgot my old account and don't have enough posts on this one to link yet.

I'm having the same problem, and I had to register to ask you to please share
Same hash values in the updater script.
EDIT: I have fixed it myself. I figured out how to use simg2img to unzip and mount the system.img from the factory image download, and from that I was able to grab the original file. Update successful!
Guys this is all well and good, but would it be possible to give a bit more info on how to fix the issue? Pretty please?
I don't have enough post's, so cant post a link.
Search for member AndDiSa and go to his blog, which has a link in his sig.
He has instructions to for extracting a factory image and installing with fastboot.
Has worked for me on the last two updates.
Or just Google for debuggerd, Nexus 7, android 4.3 and xda; there's a thread somewhere here where someone posted a copy. It's how I fixed mine when I upgraded.
Just download it and copy it to /system/bin. Easiest if you can do it in recovery, as Chainfire used that file for some of his software hacks for either Super SU or Stickmount and unfortunately it can get copied over again on boot or reboot.

[PSA][Tutorial] How to Capture an OTA

You do not need to be rooted! Just have USB debugging enabled in developer options.
Please post the official URL of the OTA that you obtain from following these steps so that everyone can download it safely and securely.
Please do not rehost the OTA zipfile on some ad-laden scammy download hosting website.
Steps shamelessly stolen from http://www.droid-life.com/2014/06/05/download-nexus-ota-url-file/
As soon as you get the OTA notice:
1. When you get prompted to download an update on your phone immediately plug your phone into a computer.
2. From that computer, open a command prompt, type “adb logcat” and hit enter. (On a Mac it’s “./adb logcat”)
3. The command prompt will then begin to spit out information from your phone.
4. Feel free to then tap the “Download” button on the update from your phone.
5. Once the download starts, you will be able to find the URL of the file that is downloading in the logcat.
6. You can do a handful of things now to find it-
a) See if you can spot a URL in the command prompt that starts with “android.clients.google.com” – or -
b) Copy the logcat info, paste into a text editor and then search for that string – or -
C) You could also search for the codename for the device (Ex: Moto G 2014 is “titan”)
Once you have the full URL, post it on the forums!
Nice
Some corrections:
first links for Motorola OTA zips start from storage.googleapis.com. not android.clients like of Nexus
second if you use adb logcat only, there will be a lot of text generated which deletes the logs captured at beginning (in which our url is).
so use abd logcat>filename.txt
so that you can search whole log i.e.filename.txt in text editor
third it's not that simple "post the url in forum"
links of Motoroal OTA get expired immediately (Nexus links don't expire) so you have to download it first and again upload it somewhere.
so please at least try before you post
I know it was not possible to test for you.
Hope you will update OP with corrections.

What do you mean with "immediately"? If I get the link while my phone is downloading the ota can I use the link to download it on my pc almost at the same time?

Yes you can use it at that time
Great initiative.
A tutorial like that should have been fixed on these forums right from the beggining.
The OTA soak test for xt1069 was lost forever, for instance, because nobody who received the notification knew about this.
On the off-chance that you're using a linux based OS or Mac OS and want to make life even easier, use grep to filter the output and then print to file:
Code:
adb logcat | grep 'storage.googleapis.com' > ota.txt
Just used this method to grab the OTA for 5.0.1 without root! My recommendation is to do this:
adb logcat > log.txt
Search log.txt for handleDownloadServiceRequest:downloadUrl
Copy / Paste URL into browser
Search log.txt for "fileName":"\/cache\/
Rename file downloaded from URL to file name listed in the logcat
Upload to XDA for others to enjoy

BTW, this latest update came from https://dlmgr.gtm.svcmot.com as the root domain. The link did expire as soon as my device finished the update and checked in.
