Kindle Fire no USB cable - Kindle Fire General

I just received my KF today in the mail and the package only came with the KF itself and a wall charger. Is it supposed to include a data USB cable?

Nope. There's just the Kindle, charger and the little piece of cardboard telling you to turn it on iirc.

Wow nice, poor choice on Amazon's part. I understand it depends on the Cloud but not everyone is using it. Now I have to buy an aftermarket cable to put anything on it. I'm a bit disappointed.

My Kindle came with a normal USB cable you can remove from the wall part and put into computer...I don't think it would be any different. Just like all chargers from HTC Samsung etc lately

Yeah, I thought the same thing. For now I use my Evo 3D's USB cable, that works.
I'm looking into getting this cable from Newegg.com.

If your buying the usb cable online go to monoprice. They are cheap and there cables are nice.
I do not work for or own mono price but I have bought all my cables from them hdmi and so on.

It does not come with a usb cable, just the device, power cord (ac adapter with a usb micro connected to the end) and a cardboard brief info card... That is it.
As a wifi device, no usb cable is required, though you can use one to save files from your computer.

No, it doesn't come with a usb cable. I've been using dropbox to get files over. Though I have a dozen micro usb cables lying around.

Samsung USB cable Crap?

Since I have gotten the Epic I have had so many issues with windows seeing the phone and installing the proper drivers even right after restarting the phone. Im lucky if windows see's the phone one out of 10 times I have to plug unplug etc etc until my pc's see the darn phone.
So I caught a post earlier that suggested to try a different cable and BAMM!!! phone links every single time no issues. Im using the usb cable that came with my evo now. Just side by side you can see the huge quality difference.
Samsung might want to check these cables and I suggest if your having charging or communication problems with the phone to try a new cable.
Let me know if any of you are also able to reproduce this!!
Yes. My cable actually broke the 2nd day of owning this phone because it was tugged on a little too hard while i was using my phone with it charging. It wouldn't charge the phone unless it was being pushed upwards or held a certain way.
Pathetic.
I've since been using my girl's MyTouch 3g cable and have had no issues whatsoever.
I just purchased a few new cables from monoprice. I've always had awesome results from them and they are cheap.
Yes the cable that comes with the epic should not be used with a computer IMO. Just look at the charger that plugs into the wall and compare it to the USB pins on your computers case.
The pins are raised a lot higher on the part that plugs into the wall compaired to how raised the pins are on my PC's case. I'm running an antec 1200 and I would consider the front USB ports to be really "tight". I then tried a different cable and have had no problems.......OTHER THAN BATTERY LIFE IN GENERAL sucks on the epic.
I didn't Realize there was a problem with the usb cable on th
e computer side but I have been using my I mac since my pc took a dump b. i think the phone end of the usb cable is just crap.it seems to disconnect really easy and not near as robust as the one that came with my hero. Still love my epic though!

Come on. Both the cable and the wall unit sucks. A phone that is 500 bucks and you give me a .7 amp charger and a cheap ass cable? My HTC touch pro came with a 1 amp charger, that looked nice, and came with a good cable.

Right? Well at least we got 16g sd cards. They have to give and take you know? lol
my cord works just fine.
However i only have one mini usb (the one that came with it) so i ordered some micro usb to mini usb adapters so i can use all my old cables.
Just order a bunch of microUSB cables from monoprice. It's like $1.20/cable. I ordered 7 so I have a large collection of easily lost cables.
How the hell did I not know about this site? THANKS

A Strange Problem with my HTC Vision

I plug it into a wall charger. It charges.
I plug it into a PC. It charges.
I plug it into the car charger. It doesn't charge. I plug another device into the car charger and that device does charge. Same cord, same car.
I have a special device that I plug into my car lighter socket - it gives me two wall-like sockets and another USB socket. When I plug the Vision-attached wall charger into the device, it charges. (This device is similar to this http://amzn.to/JeJjGo).
Also - I've done all the above on different cars and tried different car chargers. What's going on?

It's not the charger. The charger charges other cell phones, Bluetooth devices. I tried three different chargers.
I have usb cables that are cheaply made and good ones. Cheap ones will work with some devices and not others, good ones work with all. You may have a cheap one that works sometimes, when you have a usb port that is slightly damnaged it may not work with this sometimes usb ports are picky

He has a point here - you should at the very least try another car charger and see if it works. Seems like the car charger and your phone just don't mix well.
It's definitely your USB cord. I had the SAME problem. My car charger would charge my Bluetooth, and my girlfriends phone fine. But when I plugged it into my G2 it acted like nothing was plugged in at all. I would get another car charger ASAP and stop using that junk! It's just going to mess up your devices in the long run.

Nexus 7 doesn't charge when on, but charges when turned off?

It's really weird. When my nexus 7 is on, it won't charge or connect to the pc by usb, as if the usb port doesn't work. When I turn it of it charges normally, not problems whatsoever. I tried with factory cable and charger still same issue.
I don't have the receipt to return it so I have to find a fix, any ideas?
Raplacing the usb port might do the thing or is it something else? Is someone having this issue?
Thanks

You don't have enough power on your USB port. Mine charges via usb just fine while in use. My car charger does what yours is doing.
I'll assume it charges fine when using the ac charger that came with your n7?
Why you can't connect to your PC...I don't know. Like you said...maybe a bad USB port. I'm using an Asus USB 3.0/SATA lll PCI card.

My nexus 7 won't charge at all when it's on. It charges normally when of with any usb/adapter, but when off not charging at all with any usb/charger even oem one

Read the documentation. It does not support charging over USB while in use. There's not enough power through a computer USB port.

I have the exact same problem. Mine won't charge when on and will not connect to PC via USB. Did you ever find a solution?
I had the same problem, it turned out to be an iffy USB cable. Grabbed one of the kids micro USB cables (for their phone). Fixed the issue for me.

Doesnt matter what kind of cable I use or charger. Cant get it to do anything but Stickmount still works somehow.
Sorry to dig this out. Have the same problem as OP for a few month. Now I'am annoyed enough to find a solution.
Anybody with good advice?
Cable/charger won't matter: if GN7 is on (either active or standby) it won't charge (or get recognized by PC). If switched off, it charges anywhere (wall mount charger, PC USB, ...)
I'm also having this same problem and have been unable to find a solution after about an hour or so.
I didn't find a solution. Sold on cl for dirt cheap. Bought an n7 2013

same problem
I bought my n7 on 11-30-12. In the last month or so its developed the same problem. I called Asus for warranty. The guy says you can send it to Texas for it to be studied and repaired but it will take a LLLOOOONNNGGGG time. He said I should wait til the factory warranty ran out and hope Wallyworlds extended warranty offers to replace it with a new one. I tried taking the back off and unplugging-replugging it, didn't help. I tried a factory reset, didn't help. Guess I'll keep trolling the interweb for ideas til the end of the month and hope Wallyworld gives me a new one! Either way its the last asus for me. I may have to sharpen my teeth for all the crow I'll have to eat when I show up for a visit at my brothers' homes with an ipad air...

I had this problem with my Nexus 7 (2013). In my case, the usb charging port on the tablet was severely damaged. This caused the USB port wires to short with each other. USB charging was obviously not possible. However, the unit would charge with the wireless charger--but only when off.
Since I had a wireless charger, and the USB port was destroyed already, I took a hemostat clamp and physically snapped and removed the USB charging port and wires. Once the USB wires were no longer shorting, the wireless charging worked flawlessly.
If you don't care about USB charging or connectivity, this workaround may work for you. Otherwise, you may consider a daughterboard replacement or replacing the USB port.
Hope this helps...
You need a good wall charger, a USB port on your computer isn't going to cut it. Buy one of the high power ones from Amazon. I find mine will hold at whatever level it is at now with my Kindle's wall charger if I'm using it but will charge pretty quickly when the screen is off.
I know this is an old thread but I acquired a nexus 7 2012 from my sister. She said it doesn't charge. I did a factory reset and found that it charges when it's off and holds charge so the battery is out the equation. I purchased a new usb port and fitted and although the USB fits a lot better it still only charges when it's off. I've used plenty of wall chargers Sony, Samsung but won't charge when it's on at all. Anyone get to the bottom of this?
Thank you

This is an old thread, but I have the same problem. My N7 charges only when turned off no matter which cable or charger I use.

[HELP!] Would not charge over wall charger!

Hello all.
I have had Nexus 4 for 2 weeks now. Absolutely love the device. Doesn't really have any problem with it. Last night, my phone didn't charge when I plug it in the wall charger (LG charger with Kindle USB cable). So I thought I forgot to charge it. I plug it in the wall charger at work, a HTC charger/USB cable. It is still not charging.
But if I plug it into my laptop, it chargers and I can transfer files between the phone and laptop.
I haven't even rooted the phone yet. Locked bootloader. Stock everything and the latest update.
Noticed that there is something similar going on with S3. So this is not a Samsung problem. It's an Android problem.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: Nevermind.
I think it's the charger's fault. Glad it's not our phone though.
Have you tried using the wall adapter and cable that actually came with your Nexus 4?

the wall adapter was from LG. I don't think the USB cable is faulty since I can connect to Laptop ok.

You should try the wall adapter and cable that came with your phone just to be certain the phone is faulty. Different adapters have different current outputs and different cables are better Suited to handle larger or smaller outputs. The kindle cable you speak of I know for sure is not designed to consistantly output at higher levels. Also, Older Samsung wall adapters like the one that comes with the Epic never had enough current output to charge my HTC phones anywhere near as quickly as my genuine HTC wall adapters.

Ghetto full size USB to micro USB cable.

I was bored so I thought of making a micro USB to USB calble for a flash drive or something.
So would cutting the wire from both cables and individually soldering the correct wires be that straight forward or are there less pins in the micro USB cables?
I could just be a cable from eBay but I thought of learning to solder stuff for future use.

If you want to practice go for it. Just match the colored wires. But for a $1.99 or less.......
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I think you want an USB OTG (on the go) cable. If you want to make your own you just need to ground one of the pins so the phone detects the cable correctly. I did mine some time ago
