Demand a HTC Charger Recall!

This is in continuation to this thread.
I believe that we should demand a recall from HTC of their junky chargers. As of a couple days ago, my charger stopped working. In order to get it to charge my phone, I need to unplug and plug in my phone 20-40 times and get the physics of the connection PERFECT... if my phone moves 1mm, it will stop charging, so I need to have the phone somewhere that it will not move...
This is not the case with my Car Charger, so I know it is simply the phone charger itself that comes with HTC... they supplied us with $0.10 charger cables to save money, and we should demand a higher quality cable be supplied to us after buying their "Flagship Device"
Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Yes. My charging/USB cable has gotten loose. The Radio Shack one I bought with the phone works great. I doubt a cable recall will occur, however.

Surprised nobody suggested a class action yet...

Apple did something similar, so this might work.
I had an iphone, and got a notice that I needed to get a new wall plug due to defects in the ones that were released with the iPhone. So my new wall plug had a bright green dot on it to indicate it was new.
HTC could do something similar, couldn't they?

Wait, are you complaining about the charger plug or the USB cable? Replacement cables are, like, a nickel on EBay. Or you can get an adapter and use your old micro USB cables.
If it's the charger itself, you may get some sympathy from OEMs, but I wouldn't even waste the stamp (or email) for a cable. Just my opinion, of course.

I took a chance and bought 3 (I have 3 EVO's) of these adapters:

Now all my BB and old phone chargers work - Take that HTC!

It's weird. I also have charging issues, here they are:
1. Occasionally, after charging for a period of time on the home charger, the EVO will light up and stop charging. I check the battery info and temperature is in the 20s, so i know that it's not a temperature issue. Then, after about 30 seconds or a minute, it will light up again and continue charging. I never touch the charging cable or connection and it does it on its own.
2. Using the car charger, the EVO seemingly decides that it doesn't like the connection. When i plug in the charger, the EVO will begin to charge, then after two or three seconds, go back to discharge mode. It takes me pulling the plug and reinserting (into the cig lighter port, not the EVO) anywhere from 3-100 times to get it to accept the charge demand.

Exactly what I have. My wife and I can share one plug, she with her Hero and me with my Evo.

I don't even use the OEM one, I use my Treo Pro chargers and have not ran into an issue. The OEM just sits on my desk...I have had my EVO since launch date.
Treo pro OEM chargers are fairly cheap now.
Just my 2 cents.

Then pins that hold the cable get pushed in when this happens you dont get a good connection. I have seen a few come in to my shop. usually give them a cable I have laying around. Leads me to wonder what others are doing differently. I havent had any issues with either of my chargers and I will test and play games with it plugged up so I know I put a little stress on it.

yeah that would have been nice, nice all my car stuff was mini usb

The physics of my connection are perfectly fine.

It's not the charger it's the port. There was a bad batch and it was fixed. Mine had the same issue and I couldn't charge my phone.

Where to get replacement USB cable?

I lost my usb cable and charger. I need to get a replacement. Where do I get such a thing?

Most Micro-USB cables will do, as long as you make sure they work for synching data, not just charging. Apparently some cheap ones will only charge, no synch data. You can find them at Best Buy or computer stores. I've even seen them at office supply stores and Target. Or you can buy them online at any number of places, like Monoprice, Amazon or Newegg.
Similarly, any charger that has a USB port will work with a Micro-USB cable to charge the phone.

So this cable is called a "Micro-USB" Cable?
And it is not some proprietary thing from HTC?

Those are all correct!
I've tried several cables and chargers, including a cable from Boxwave, the sync cable and charger from my Logitech Harmony remote, and (I think) the charger for my Motorola Bluetooth headset. They all work.

Micro USB is pretty well standardized. I use the charge/sync cable from my Logitech MX revolution mouse and it works just fine.
One thing I would recommend is NOT going to a t-mobile store. Carrier accessories are often 10x + more expensive than from other stores, especially compared to online. Its just goddamn highway robbery the prices they sell those things for lol.

Yeah, the micro-USB interface is an industry standard (in fact, all future cell phones manufactured for use in Europe are required to use it). Very useful for the cable portion (if you check around online or in third-party stores, you can usually pick up one of the Blackberry cables for only a couple of bucks).
One thing you should take note off when buying the charger portion though is supported amperage. The USB spec is limited to only 500mA, so that's what many of the generic chargers will output. I think the HTC charger is 1A though. 500mA should be fine if you are only going to charge while the phone is off, but if you will be using the phone heavily while plugged in, you'll probably want the 1A variety (also charges faster).

i have a little problem here , i couldn't charge my phone since the last hour
but before this there wasn't any problem around nearly 2 years
is it because of the usb cable ?
even i plugged in my usb cable through a pc it can't be detected
i even tried removing the battery and try charging it
is the usb cable spoiled or the charger ?

Did you search? Just asking.
Troubleshoot. If you can get your hands on a different cable, different charger, battery and so on. Find someone who has those things.

Different charger

The same thing happened to me with my HTC Inspire, and the culprit was the USB cable. That cable is very crappy I most say. It can get damaged easily because of how the head of the cable that goes plugged into the phone was built. It bends when using your phone while charging and when holding it in landscape with ease.
I have been using a BB cable for more than a month now, and it plugs tightly into the phone port, and hasn't given me any problems at all.

[HELP!] Would not charge over wall charger!

Hello all.
I have had Nexus 4 for 2 weeks now. Absolutely love the device. Doesn't really have any problem with it. Last night, my phone didn't charge when I plug it in the wall charger (LG charger with Kindle USB cable). So I thought I forgot to charge it. I plug it in the wall charger at work, a HTC charger/USB cable. It is still not charging.
But if I plug it into my laptop, it chargers and I can transfer files between the phone and laptop.
I haven't even rooted the phone yet. Locked bootloader. Stock everything and the latest update.
Noticed that there is something similar going on with S3. So this is not a Samsung problem. It's an Android problem.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: Nevermind.
I think it's the charger's fault. Glad it's not our phone though.

Have you tried using the wall adapter and cable that actually came with your Nexus 4?

the wall adapter was from LG. I don't think the USB cable is faulty since I can connect to Laptop ok.

You should try the wall adapter and cable that came with your phone just to be certain the phone is faulty. Different adapters have different current outputs and different cables are better Suited to handle larger or smaller outputs. The kindle cable you speak of I know for sure is not designed to consistantly output at higher levels. Also, Older Samsung wall adapters like the one that comes with the Epic never had enough current output to charge my HTC phones anywhere near as quickly as my genuine HTC wall adapters.

N4 Charging unstable?

Sometimes when I charge my phone I get spikes of charging then not charging. Wonder if this is a problem with the USB port or its just a dust issue there?

I think this phone just has a retarded charging port. The plug doesn't stay in securely which causes the phone to charge slow, first of all. And I recently started having the problem you described. It will say charging, not charging back and forth a bunch of times. Are you using a case? When this happens, I take off my case to make sure the plug is in there securely and I also make sure the AC adapter is plugged into the wall securely and that the USB plug is plugged into the AC adapter securely as well. This usually helps.
Charging this phone is such a headache sometimes.

That happened to me like a month ago and the charger was the culprit. But I also had slow charging (even with the wall adapter, it would eventually change to USB charging) and it wouldn't reach full charge. You might want to try another charger, just in case.

I've seen this also and cleaned my USB pins...seemed to help.

I have to agree. I am using a different charger because the one it came with sucks. I would wake up to a phone that had 50% even though it was on the charger all night.

My Nexus 4 does this when I use the LG USB cable, but I don't remember if it happened with the stock charger. I lost that a long time ago, and now I use the charger from my old Motorola Atrix, which works fine if I use a cable other than the LG cable. I think my cable is damaged, but it feels like the cable always did that. If I plug my dads Atrix HD into the LG cable, it does the same unstable charging as my Nexus.

I have the same issue, have tried multiple chargers and cables, even happens over Qi.
I have a replacement phone coming

Had this too, charger was broken, just try another charger first.
I'm now using a standard samsung charger

I had this problem with the official charger, but it works well when I charge it using my computer usb ports (I prefer lower current when I charge over night) and the Nexus 10 charger.

Thanks for all your responses...it seems to be better now after cleaning the ports....but still happens sometimes...I'm trying to do a RMA for it but have a question...what if during their testing it didn't happen would I need to pay for the replaced device?
