Is rooting really needed for the kf? I am not super computer suave, but I did root my X10a. What I really want to know is will I need to root to be happy with the kf?

If you want the android market you will want to root it. But with burrito root it's pretty easy.
Thanks
I was looking at some of the videos and I just get nervous about bricking it. I will give it a shot when I pick one up.
It's not "needed" but it totally turns into a full Android tablet, once you put CyanogenMod on it that is. It's great.
No need to be nervous. Just follow the guides that are in the Development section and with some patience, everything will go smooth.
I will try it out when I get it.
Who will unbrick it when things go wrong lol

If I don't get the CM7 rom will the OTA updates from Amazon kill my root access and Google Android Market?

I've heard just about ANY OTA updates kills root access. So if I were you I would totally not take anything from Amazon after rooting and putting CM on it.
Edit: if you don't put CM on it and stick to stock Fire, then to answer your question, yes it will probably kill root access. All depends on what the OTA consists of.
I am really just wanting the Google Android Market. Will the OTA updates kill the market along with root access? I couldn't find where it said that it killed the market also.

I am not so sure on that one, I'm sorry. I would think Stock Fire software wouldn't play nice with Android Market installed as well, I could be wrong, not sure.

Hey fellas I'm new to the android world. Q? I just rooted my phone with the z4root, so how can I install custom roms with out flashing my phone?
Sent from my SPH-M920 using XDA App
You can't.
Simply put, you can't. That is the only way to install a different rom is to flash it to your phone.

The flash will work for ota as well but it's not really necessary if all you need to do is back out of the webtop mod.
Got my atrix today. Still tryna get used to a 4 inch screen. Havent rooted yet (usually root my devices the second they get there first charge) but seems as if everything is beta rite now. Question though, would the updated motoblur launcher work without root? Like sidload the apk?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
use gingerbreak to root and the launcher probably wont work, havnt seen anyone mention it anyway
No you cant sideload apps out of the box. You first need to root with gingerbreak method and then use the gladenable script to enable sideloading.

I was thinking of using the side loading wonder machine. And to root, dont I have to rsd sbf 1.8.3 first? Anyways, thanks for the answers

Congrats! Ateix is a great device. Easiest way to install Nonmarket apps is to go to Android store n purchase "Non Market apps Enabler" created by fellow member here. Only costs 1 dollar somethn. Enables the checkbox n options to enable non market app installs. Works instantly. No side loading n all that needed. Saves a ton of Time n hassle. I got it n was installing non market apps instantly with it!
If its a UK spec one, you can side load without doing anything... Otherwise rooting will be required

Hi, I'm going to root my brothers dx for him tomorrow, it's running the aforementioned firmware, so what options do I have to root it? Will gingerbreak work?
Thanks.

Seriously, it's stickied man.
You're going to have to SBF him to .340 first and then follow that thread.
I suggest backing up his apps with this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackup&feature=search_result
first...but he'll lose all of his app data since he isn't currently rooted and can't use Titanium.
If you're super crafty and patient, maybe you can try using ADB to pull the data for him...and obviously push it back once he's up and running again.
Sorry, I sent this from my phone late last night, I haven't rooted a phone in a while..
I am a noob, what is ADB? I know the term, I just forgot..

Edit: also, if I do the method posted above where I downgrade to froyo, then manually upgrade to gingerbread, will I be rooted once I'm back on gingerbread?

My assumption is he has a new stock X fresh from VZ running 4.5.596... You can sbf back to froyo from an OTA? huh... news to me!
Sbfing is the equivalent of swinging a mighty ban hammer. (in response to the above)

How do I get it... I did a factory reset and still no market app
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Don't know how that's possible. Perhaps you can find an APK of the market through the web browser and it will install...
Yes it was a mistake.

I knew it was a mistake
But I would like to keep it... it also won't download... I bought it used... do you guys think it was rooted once with an unlock bootloader?... would this happen if someone try to get it back stock to resell??? I don't know...
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Is it the stock rom? Check under the about tablet. If it has root then You might need to download the g apps zip from here then install that through CWM. If not you can just search for the APK and get it online somewhere.

No mistake. It's a great tab. If used, read up and return it to stock condition. Or load a ROM from the dev section. You'll get the market back.
Thanks... that's what I was planning.. get a custom rom, I for sure know this will fix it... I'm confuse on how to set up my laptop with sdk.... I seen instructions that are pretty straight forward... but afraid I might mess up my laptop or the tablet
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I hardly think it's a mistake just because you have to do a little work. Just means you'll like it more later on.
I don't think the tab is rooted... there's no superuser... plus the recovery has these options only... reboot, update from USB, factory reset, clear cache... something like that... just confuse on my after factory reset in recovery I still don't have market... ill upload a picture of all the app that's preinstall after factory reset in recovery...

I think the first thing you should do is a factory reset. If that doesn't get your Market back then flash the stock images from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049485
After you get the stock images on there then you can think about rooting and custom ROMs if you want to but if stock does what you want then just stick there at the moment.
Thanks, I'm not familiar with sdk adb and all the command thing in second post in the link you provide burd... but give me 24hrs to figure this... I might need help later...
I am attempting to set up my computer... will post my update soon

Here is a guide I used when I wanted to flash the US images on my UK Xoom. The guide will also get you to root but you don't have to go that far if you don't want to.
Now, the commands will all be the same but the guide may be a bit out of date with image names and such as it's from February. Make sure you read everything and if you are planning to root/flash custom ROMs DO NOT relock your bootloader.
Edit: changed guide URL to newer one provided by okantomi

Even better
I don't think it's a mistake as long as you got a good deal on it.
$280.... got it off of Craigslist... they were old nice people that speak little english... he said he let his friend factory reset it... I bet my tablet was unlock and rooted once or he had someone with little knowledge to attempt the procedure to get it back stock so he can resell it... oh well its my problem now... I will fix it... I hope
