Its here!!!! - Atrix 4G General

Got my atrix today. Still tryna get used to a 4 inch screen. Havent rooted yet (usually root my devices the second they get there first charge) but seems as if everything is beta rite now. Question though, would the updated motoblur launcher work without root? Like sidload the apk?

use gingerbreak to root and the launcher probably wont work, havnt seen anyone mention it anyway

No you cant sideload apps out of the box. You first need to root with gingerbreak method and then use the gladenable script to enable sideloading.

I was thinking of using the side loading wonder machine. And to root, dont I have to rsd sbf 1.8.3 first? Anyways, thanks for the answers

Congrats! Ateix is a great device. Easiest way to install Nonmarket apps is to go to Android store n purchase "Non Market apps Enabler" created by fellow member here. Only costs 1 dollar somethn. Enables the checkbox n options to enable non market app installs. Works instantly. No side loading n all that needed. Saves a ton of Time n hassle. I got it n was installing non market apps instantly with it!

If its a UK spec one, you can side load without doing anything... Otherwise rooting will be required

On the phone, Download z4root from google and install it, then open it and choose Perm Root, then it will install su and the Superuser app.
Hope it helps.
I tried the z4 infact thats was the way I rooted my phone the first time but after the ota update they shut down Z4root's path. I need my root back to tether (no internet at all now!)

Unknown Source

I just tried downloading and installing the new Android Market. The apk downloaded when I clicked install it stated unknown source.
I read somewhere about a check box but my phone does not have this check box. So how do I fix the problem?
Help please.

go into settings > applications > there should be a checkbox there if you are rooted and running a deodex rom.
I am not rooted. I am on a stock rom.

Look for "Gladroot" or "Gingerbreak"...
The "adb install" method should work too.
You will need GladEnabler for sideloading. This is what will give you the "unknown sources" checkbox. Rooting does not give you sideloading.
You will however require root before you can use GladEnabler.
Follow the Gingerbreak instructions to gain root. Look for Gingerbreak.exe at the bottom of the 1st post. This is the easiest way to use Gingerbreak. You can also use adb if you are comfortable with it per the instructions.
Note: You will lose everything on your internal sdcard when you use Gingerbreak, so backup up anything on the internal sdcard which you do not want to lose. You can just copy and paste the files to your external sdcard or a pc, then copy and paste the files back afterwards.
I have a bone stock, unrooted, Atrix.......and the download worked for me....I was very surprised, because of the not being able to sideload.....but it did ask first, if I wanted to download and replace, because it is a system app.....but works great, but not sure how much i like the new look......still getting used to it.....

You will have to search for that. I don't know myself.
Just looked at Sideload Wonder Machine also, and it is for Windows.
There may be something else for Mac which will allow you to sideload like that does on Windows.
<edit> Found it for Mac. Will post download link for you shortly.
<edit2> Ok, here it is ------> Installer Script. Website link ------> http://forums.androidcentral.com/android-sideload-wonder-machine/24362-sideload-wonder-machine-linux-mac.html.
I believe you don't even need root for this to work with minimal functionality. You will need root because Market is a system app. You have to join the community to get access yourself to the downloads. Hope this helps you out!

Just find a PC and do it.
If done correctly, it takes about five minutes.
Or try bootcamp.

DROID2 Gingerbread Update

Some users report that the OTA update (Android 2.3.3) is live right now.
Check your updates Settings>About phone>System updates and report issues.
It is, got it last night on the wife's D2.
Have they rooted it yet? I need to get titanium backup on there and restore her apps, she's freaking out!
Yes just use droid 3 method

Sadly, this didn't work for me. Has the droid 3 method worked for anyone else?
It didn't work for you? Did you follow the instructions correctly? No one has reported any problems with it so far
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL running Leaked Rooted Gingerbread!
Had to try it twice, first time didn't recognize it. Worked fine.
Working great for me. I SBF'd back to stock from the gingerbread leak, downloaded and installed the update over wifi in about 10 minutes. Rooted using the D3 method and flashed the latest CM7GB. Working like a boss.

Ran it several times, I see the SU binary in the system/bin directory and busybox, but barnacle and titanium are unable to obtain root.
Well I changed the script from xbin to bin and it seems to work now. Still unable to get Barnacle going, but closer.
That figures. Day after i leave big red and get my g2x, gb goes live for the d2 lol. niiiiice

Depends which app. I use Barnacle, works great still.
I rooted using: http://www.psouza4.com/droid3/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1240130
This worked for me to root after the OTA.
How come says its rooted but when I use WiFi tether it says I'm not
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Go to your app drawer and look for a skull and crossbones Superuser app. Click it and see if you can add wifi tether to the list. If that icon is not there, you're not rooted.
It's there but when I press to turn it on it says I'm not rooted
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I would run one click root again, if that does not work, SBF back to stock and then re-flash GB OTA and root once more.

Kindle questions

Is rooting really needed for the kf? I am not super computer suave, but I did root my X10a. What I really want to know is will I need to root to be happy with the kf?
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk
If you want the android market you will want to root it. But with burrito root it's pretty easy.
Thanks
I was looking at some of the videos and I just get nervous about bricking it. I will give it a shot when I pick one up.
It's not "needed" but it totally turns into a full Android tablet, once you put CyanogenMod on it that is. It's great.
No need to be nervous. Just follow the guides that are in the Development section and with some patience, everything will go smooth.
I will try it out when I get it.
Who will unbrick it when things go wrong lol

Better belive I will follow step by step

I've heard just about ANY OTA updates kills root access. So if I were you I would totally not take anything from Amazon after rooting and putting CM on it.
Edit: if you don't put CM on it and stick to stock Fire, then to answer your question, yes it will probably kill root access. All depends on what the OTA consists of.
I am really just wanting the Google Android Market. Will the OTA updates kill the market along with root access? I couldn't find where it said that it killed the market also.

I am not so sure on that one, I'm sorry. I would think Stock Fire software wouldn't play nice with Android Market installed as well, I could be wrong, not sure.

Samsung continuum update problems

So I recently got a Samsung continuum from a flea market, and I am using it without activating it through Verizon. It is currently running android 2.1. When I try and update it, it gets stuck on the loading screen. Does it need to have cell service to update? Can I manually update it by flashing a rom, ext? Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yes, it would need to be activated to get any Over The Air updates. There are some roms that you can flash, but won't guarantee that any of the links will work. Verizon never updated past Froyo, but there was a Gingerbread leak that worked well, I'm using it on my unactivated Continuum.

Man I really do miss this phone and everything new they put to it! Was a great experience. And lucky for you if you need any of the files I can upload them for you and what not. All still saved on my computer since I didn't bother erasing them. o: So if anything PM me or I'll just upload what you need to here.
