How can I get my USB tethering to work? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I have a PC and a Netbook. USB tethering on my PC works perfectly fine (btw, it's running Win7), but when I tried USB tethering on my netbook--even after I installed the official driver from the website that indicated its usage for tethering--it stops working. The netbook is able to detect the phone, but cannot seem to find the driver. Any help?
PS: I also installed HTC Sync on my PC; I'm not sure if that's what made the tethering work.
Thanks a lot!
TheonlyHan

I don't mean to offend but have you rebooted the Netbook? And have you tried reinstalling the driver (run as an admin)?

[Q] Trouble connecting VIA USB

I am a newb when it comes to android, so please bear with me. I cannot for the life of me get my Continuum dl17 unrooted to mount on my computer. I use a late 2010 13" MacBook pro (10.6.6) as my main rig, with VMWare Fusion installed. I have an XP clone, a Win 7 clone and a Ubuntu clone. I am unsuccessful mounting the phone in any of these.
When I first connect the phone to any of the computers/virtual machines I see what looks like a Verizon CD that tries to install the driver (No Mac Driver | I'll get to that later) The CD the disappears, I swipe down the notifications on the phone and choose Mount the SD to no avail.
I downloaded the drivers from Samsung...nothing. I have tried mounting with USB debugging and without...nothing.
When I try to mount to the Mac I get an error that the Mac cannot read the disk and do I want to initialize. (oddly enough If I unmount the sd card and put it in my card reader I can transfer files just fine using the Mac)
I really want to root the phone, but that is impossible when you cannot get the phone to be recognized my your computer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (BTW I have tried everything that I could find to troubleshoot this before I posted)
Thanks
The DL17 update broke the USB functionality on the Continuum. Please, complain LOUDLY to Verizon. If you can get an unupdated phone as a trade-in that might be best.

Weudel,
Thank you! I will complain LOUDLY to Verizon.
Yeah, I don't believe z4root works after the update, either, at least it didn't for me. Don't you have a friend with a pc? It doesn't take long to root...

I have tried to attach the phone to a windows box as well...no dice. How did you root your phone?

You don't need USB storage to root, just turn on debugging.

Thanks Weudel,
I will give it another shot.
I did get root... I was just not being patient enough

I have the DL17 on my SCH-I400 and I just managed to connect to it via ADB (thanks to this post).
Can you explain what you mean by "broke the USB functionality"?
I've been running Mac OS Lion for the last almost 2 months on my Alienware M11x, so I know the pain of trying to get the Continuum to mount on a Mac. It won't work unless you're running a Froyo ROM. There isn't an easier answer, believe me, I tried!
Even then, when running Froyo, USB debugging will time out after a few minutes. I'm going to flash EC07, and see if it improves that problem.

Connect xoom to win XP?

I was trying to copy some images from my PC running win XP service.pack 3 to the xoom. I successfully copied files from my netbook runnning win7 before. But this time isn't with much luck. Driver installer will keep failling to install the xoom. Tried download the driver. Pointed the installer wizard to the location. Still denying to install. Downloaded the tool from Motorola called motohelper. Still no luck. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you have windows media player 11 installed
Also make sure you have usb debugging enabled if its already enabled try disabling it
grab the driver install from http://developer.motorola.com/
this is a straight install package. I connect my xoom to winxp with no issue.

Could you give me like a step by step and which file i need to download? This thing is driving me nuts. I kept plugging in and it kept denying to install properly. The xoom just will not show up in my computer so i can use to exchange files.

I have done so and i do have usb debugging and still same issue. Dont know what else to do. By the way i am running Vista

Do you have multiple android devices installed? I have had the same issue when I tried to install drivers for my p6800. Deinstalled htc software AND drivers, then tried again, worked perfectly.
No, no other drivers. I recently reformated my laptop and still a no go. Whatever items do install it allows me to access both external and internal drives, but those 2 items dont and just get "drivers not installed"

Which computer?
Try without Kies installed if you have it installed--
I am making a nandroid now so can't check, but try the other choice from MTP. Forget what it is--
Also, I have rebooted phone and computer and it worked. Also, Android File Transfer works well--
Airdroid works well too.

I have and have used Airdroid. I must be slow, but the the UI is confusing to me. Maybe lack of use--
No kies installed. The other option from MTP is just for pics as far as I can tell.
Air droid works but I still want to correct this. Right about now I am thinking this may be a windows issue
