Hi all, I know this has probably been asked before, but as I am unable to find anything, I am posting this new thread.
I have just recieved a brand new 8GB Sandisk Micro SDHC.
I formatted it using my HD2, and transferred everything from my 2GB Sandisk Micro SD.
When I insert the 8GB card into my HD2, or reset the device with the 8GB inserted, my HD2 becomes completely unresponsive. So much, that after waiting around 15 minutes (I went and found a quick job to do) my HD2 still wouldn't respond to any input, and Sense still hadn't loaded.
If I revert back to my 2GB card, it all works fine.
Is there a fix for this behaviour, or is it just a case of 8GB card will cause problems?
Cheers.
Steve.
i have an 8gb sandisk card and have no problems at all with it maybe faulty card try re format
I've just increased to 16gb - didn't format but found a couple corrupt files but other than that everything works fine.
Do you have any folders that would try to install on boot?
Just got a 16GB class 2 PNY card and my phone was running hot, unresponsive, quickly going through the battery - all from a factory format after I'd added my files. I then formatted the card with the Winmo application and voila added all my data and now it's playing ball. Didn't expect problems from new with a factory format.
I am using a Lexar 8GB class 6 SD card and have been for over a month and just now have been experiencing weird problems with it. If the SD card is in the phone while WMO boots up the screen becomes unresponsive. If I load Anroid the screen is responsive for about three minutes before I have to do a battery pull and take the sd card out. I am back to using my stock 16gb class 2 card right now and have not had any problems but I was wondering why all of a sudden the sd card would make the screen go unresponsive after using it for a month? I mean, the sd card has nothing to do with the screen and I could see it causing these problems in Android since it boots off the card, but not WMO.
EDIT I actually just think my phone is dying now

Does the endkey go unresponsive or just the screen? I have the problem of screen unresponsive if the phone is waken by the endkey, other keys are fine.
Backup your SD Card then do a reformat. Try that.

How odd, I've had two HD2's that have had that issue. Warranty replacement on both though.
I have been wrestling with the same issue regarding the endkey press causing the screen to become unresponsive. At one point I couldn't get the touch screen to work at all. I did manage to get back to where I can use the device however, by heating up the bottom of the device front and back with a hot hair dryer.
That's thinking outside the box. More like an accident. Not sure what the problem is other than hardware failure. I'm afraid to use the endkey too much now.

hi, I have bought a Class 10 Micro SD card for my milestone 2 today.
But I found the screen will running out after locking from both button and time out. And the system will run slow down after boot up immediately. Anyone have the same situation and I would like to know is not supporting 16GB card, or brand (A-data), or Class 10 (too fast??).
Thank you and sorry for my English...
I have a 32GB class 2 card (Sandisk). Much as with yours, the system runs slowly for a brief time after startup (an icon displays in the status bar displays saying that the SD card is being prepared during this time). I think it's normal, though if it continues for more than about 30 seconds I'd say there might be a problem...
My screen timeouts etc are normal. Does this only happen when your MicroSD is inserted?
yes, this problem only takes place when I put the Class 10 card into the phone.
The blank screen shows up after once the screen locked.
It makes me frustrated as I bought the card and hope I can enjoy it.
But the error checking is super fast although I got 4GB small files inside.
Update: When I put the blank card in, it seems works fine...
An 16gb transcend class6 microsdhc card works on my phone not correctly. If the system write on the sdcard, the system hangs and work very slow. An class4 card from sandisk works very fine.

Exactly the same problem here. I bought a 16GB Transcend Class 6 card and I have problems all the time. The phone hangs and only battery pull helps. Titanium /Backup is slow and hags, etc., etc.
hey bros, I found the issue may be caused by the card slot. The card is working fine on the phone.

What do you mean?
Hey guys,
i've had the same problem with my Milestone 2.
I think i found a fix :
Simply format the sd card while in your phone with the built in "format" found in "settings".
!Dont! format the sd card with your PC !
Did that with mine and my phone is running perfectly now.

I thought about it. I am going to try it too.
I just formatted the card in my phone and put the data back on.
I did a quick test - tried backing up my stuff in TiB. No luck it still hang like it did before.
thank
I was to help this discussion ... I had the problem with a memory of 32 GB then decided to go to 16 gb and all perfect ...!
my card is working now suddenly on one day I put it back on the phone to test again.
I think this problem is caused by the design of the card slot which may lead incorrect touch of the contact surface between phone and card.
Hi, sorry for ressurecting this thread, but I believe I found a solution:
Put your high class cards on the phone and boot it up. On rootexplorer, go to /sys/device/virtual/dbi/179:0 and /sys/device/virtual/dbi/179:32, longpress read_ahead_kb and choose edit as text file. You'll see a value of 128. Change to 1024. Save and exit. Test if your cards are still missbehaving. I saw it on a EVO tutorial, tried here and my 16gb class 10 card worked normally. The only problem is that you have to do it every time your phone reboots.

Got same problem here with a class 2 16 gb
Same issue but I have used a 32gb class 4 and it was fine. My 32gb broke and I put back in the 8gb class 4. Its fine too! I just bought a 16gb Adata class 10 and its giving me the same problems as you guys but its only when i use more than 3 gb of information. So I think the phone cant handle class 10 cards
If problems starts when you use more than xxxx GB, maybe it´s a fake capacity card.
Make sure to check the SD on pc with h2test to see if it´s fake or not.
No it's not. M2 just doesn't get along with class 6+ cards =/

Thats not true. Im using class 6 and class 10, and both work perfectly.
I just got this thing and it just sits there with white screen and "HTC" logo. Does this thing take a long time to fire up?
I did the button hard reset but it didn't do anything. Is there anything else i can try to get it to work?
Blah, finally found something:
Swapped out the 16GB card for a 4GB SD Card and now the phone works...HTC pisses me off with their quirks sometimes!!!!
So what is teh deal? Crappy SD cards or do they just get corrupt?
I had a similar problem and had to perform hard reset which reformatted the SD card and all was well - for a while. After it happened again a few months later, I swapped out the original card for a new 32 GB SanDisk Class 4 card and it hasn't missed a beat since.
Dunno. My Surround is going on 15 months old and I actively use it at least 4-6 hours per day (1 to 1.5 full charges per day) and no problem with the stock SD card. Have about 7GB free space available.
Had a couple spontaneous soft resets prior to Mango, and a few times a battery pull were required to wake the phone up. But aside from that, no problems whatsoever.
Hey, I jus bought a "new" HTC surround from amazon, and I'm having an issue, the phone isn't going past the HTC logo, it just goes to the HTC Logo, vibrates, then shuts down, when i plug it in, it does the same thing, in a loop, can someone plz plz plz help me, since I have no warranty.
You will probably have to replace the SD Card. Make sure to use a Windows Phone compatible card, or at least stick with name brand like Sandisk.
Is it normal for "new" htc surround phones to come with a defective SD card ?

It shouldn't be normal for new devices, but it is a common problem with this particular phone.
I would try to get it exchanged.
If you can't do that then I would try swapping in a different SD Card. It's actually pretty easy to get it apart, here is a guide video about it:

k thanks, ill try swapping the SD card
any ideas on the brand of SD card i should replace it with ?

Sorry, forgot about this. I'd stick with SanDisk.
I have had success with SanDisk Class 4. I currently have a 32 GB one in my Surround and it runs very well.
um yeah. used the newest windows 8 preview on windows7 to install it on my 32gb kingston SD (4)
card.
when I rebooted and told it to boot first with usb/card
all i get is a blue screen with a pretty (beta?) fish. thats it.
TM2T HP Tablet.
Well, you've got a BSOF
That's the normal boot screen (Beta fish-Beta windows), but it sounds like installation has failed somewhere.
How long did you leave the screen up before shutting down?
I hope they do a little better splash screen wise on the final. It's kinda lame. :/
