Questions to sense roms - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey,
So I wanted to give sense a chance, since I really like sense 3.5.
But I'm having problems finding a good rom, I tried it with energy but its slow and runs not smooth at all, even tho other people dont seem to have problems with it.
And Im also confused about all that SD-Partitioning, tried doing it like in the Guides but from all the partitioning my SD Card is only 900MB out of 2GB now and I cant seem to delete all the other partitions.
Regards

try RCMix3D Runny v5.0, i heard some good things about it.
as for sd card partitioning:
flash 4ext recovery (in attachment) with CWM, your phone should reboot into 4ext recovery.
in 4ext go to: Advanced -> Partition SD Card -> Remove all partitions and start from scratch.
Now it will prompt you for the desired sizes for all your partitions, but don't get confused if it asks twice for the ext size, the 1st time is for the 1st ext partition the 2nd for the 2nd partition.
Generally you wouldn't want/need a 2nd ext partition so choose 0 mb for that one.
ext-4 is the desired type for the ext partition.
hope i have been of help..

Thanks man!
Will try that out tomorrow.
But about that rom you posted, I read in the Rom specific Thread that it runs relatively slow, anyhow I'll try it.

So I installed it now, did a 1024M sd-ext partition and flashed 210M CWM with 5M cache using the HD2 Toolkit.
But after the clean install I only get 993 quadrant score and it is pretty laggy/slow
Is this normal with sense roms? oO

I don't find the rom to be slow at all.
I have yet to try v5. I'm still on 4.xx.
For me the rom is fast and I heard with Kernel v6 or Marc's kernel the rom goes great.

Was my post helpful?

If you want to try sense I would look at haldrics sense roms he has done a great job with both 2.1 and 3.5 also they are both smooth and fast.

That .zip didn't work out for some people. I would recommend using minitool partition wizard. It's free and works great (Windows)
If you are using linux, try gparted.

MccM MixTheme Runny+Ryhme V10
Hi, I'm running MccM MixTheme Runny+Ryhme V10 on SD card, I've got 2171 in Quadrant Standard. i have 16GB card with 8GB free.
The only problem with this is Wifi hotspot is not working, so I use "Barnacle"
Have any one try that? any better ROM than this?

In my opinion no. I'm on the TBD v3.1 Sensation XL themed ROM, it comes with Sense 3.5 and works really fine!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275119
Do you have an opportunity to try it with another SD-Card? Maybe it's broken.

if you follow the link, you see the rom, but it's crab, only 1319 in quadrant???
why don't you try the one i have "MccM MixTheme Runny+Ryhme V10"
you can get around 2100 in the quadrant, but as i said the only problem is WIFI HOTSPOT is not working you have to use "barnacle" instead.
have any one try it? and let me know is there a fix for "wifi-hot spot"?

Sense to me, just feels too slow & clunky but the sense 2.1 feel faster to me

Can you share 2.1 ROM?

[QNS] How to REPLACE a kernel ???

If i m using CWM to install a rom
Hi,
The way I did it was: download the ROM and kernel zips:>Then put them both on the sd card root :>go into cwm:>ad recovery:>wipe data ,dalvik and partitions:>install ROM:>install kernel:> reboot.
You should bear in mind that not all kernels will work with all ROMS.
My sig shows what worked for me
thx was trying Ultimate Droid rom but the default dont support ext4..
Your Ultimate Droid [op] shows 3 kernels which have been tested.
Why don't you try one using method I suggested
never
I tried to do so many times and never got it right
agree here..
try all... none of them let me using ext4

This is also for ebotross. Are you both using the MAGLDR or the cLK version of the ROM? You have to use a kernel that is compatible with MAGLDR if you are using MAGLDR and a kernel that is compatible with cLK if you are using cLK. Cedesmith has a patch posted in the cLK thread to apply to a kernel to make it cLK compatible.
using MAGLDR

That is strange then the kernels posted in the thread for the Ultimate Droid should work as they should be for MAGLDR, unless the Rom chef posted those kernels for the cLK users. Have you posted in the thread about your issue?
posted.. no reply
i tried number of time..
i alway see i got 5mb even less under storage... that mean i not using ext4 as internal
u see... the rom requet to use CWM v1.3 150MB but i use 400M
if i got 1gb ext.. after install this rom i cannot be left only 2-5mb
When you first flashed the ROM where you coming from a different ROM? If so did you do a complete restore or a partial restore using advanced restore? If you used just the regular restore then you do not have Ultimate Droid but you have your old ROM as the System restores your ROM and the Boot restores your kernel. Not all kernels are compatible with all ROMs as the ROMs for the HD2 are all custom ROMs. Also in native Android devices kernels are pretty much device specific so you can not use a kernel from one device on another device without modifying it.

Damn I think I know what you did but I can not remember where I read it at. It was something about if you do something with a certain file or something you actually double it which would turn your 400M into 800M and that would leave you only 2mb. I will have to try to find it again.
i format every thing and start from 0
format sd card using SDFormatter V2.0
create ext3 or ext4... tried both
install rom...
i give up so i now reinstall to CWM v1.3 150M but i only have 200M???? but i tot if we use EXT3 or 4 we should had more than that????
Hi,
I think your 200M is internal memory which is found in
settings>sd & storage>internal phone storage.
The space you have on your SD card is different and probably much larger.
You say the ROM requested 150M ,you should follow this accurately. This will give you more internal memory.
The EXT partition is space on your SD card which will still be 1gb.
They are two different things.

sense 3.0 NDT with 512 ext partition,possible?

hi,
i want to install that great Rom (find it here) but i have only 1Go sd card and the developer said that it needs 1Go ext partion,if i install this rom with only 512 ext partion will the phone boot normally? if no,why?
note that i will not install applications, i want only to try the rom
many thaks
i found in the rom's folders one named "sd-ext" its size i just 473Mo so less then 512Mo
no one can help me?
probaly need a lrger partition due to system files and apps going on there, you might get it installed but highly unlikely you will be able to install many apps
I'd recommend 700MB sd-ext and the rest is for you. so that you can have about 200 for apps and the other 200 is for your files

Yes, can.
The ROM creator will probably put some system apps + dalvik cache on the sd-ext.
most ROM's will not use more than 500MB SD-EXT. So you can make a partition with the size of 700MB (as a precaution incase the ROM took more Megabytes and for your apps ) and the remaining (about 270MB) is for you to put your music, photos, documents and so on.
Plus, you have nothing to lose, try it, if it doesn't work report back here and we'll try a different combination
Put .zip with the ROM to the card and flash it. But do NOT try to boot. Instead of it take card from phone, format it to 700/300 as previously said, put it back and after that try to boot.

I thought to do that, but i think that the rom will need the partition while installing the sytem,so if you haven't the ext partition ready, install will abort
i
installed the rom using only 512 ext partition but it stucks in the htc logo now i installed another rom (sense 2.1) but i want to install the sense 3
Thank you Marvlesz and zbeky for your help
If i look at my ext3 partition the is almost 800 MB on the drive.
I use a 1.5 GB ext3 partition and is running verry smooth with sense 3.5

[Q] can't install ROMs

Hi,
I've been trying Android ROMS in my HD2 for about a year now, but some can still call me a noob.
Now i'm using CWM and it's been great since everything worked as i aspected.
Nowadays you see a lot of bigger ROMs (Sense ect.) and i like to try that out but it doesn't work.
I partitioned my SD card within the Clockwork Recovery Mode with an 1024 partition and a 0 Swap partition. I'm using Radio 2.12... installed a fresh MAGDLR , everything as it should be installed.
For some reason i can't install for example: Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Sense 3.0 Official Desire HD ,Desire HD 3.06.405.1 - Sense 3.0 - Android 2.3.5 and the BP Sense HD. They're all above the 250 mb and i think that's the problem because everything under 200 mb will install without any problem.
Can anybody point me the right direction because i'm sure that i do something wrong but can't find out what.
Thanks sofar...
Pascal
When you partition your SD card in Clockwork Mod, this is partitioning the SD card for use with A2SD. You need to flash a larger recovery. This can be done using the HD2 NAND Toolkit. I don't know how to do this, sorry, but I'm sure there are guides
recovery sizes are right?
what you re doing there is partitoning the sd card for use, what you have to do is change the partition layout for the nand partition
you woul be best off using the nand toolkit here : http://forum.xda-developedrs.com/showthread.php?t=1090783

[SOLVED] Sense 3.0 roms and stuck at boot

Hi.
I have now tried a variety of "Sense 3.0" roms found under development. None of them boot. I can already see that I am not alone, but I can't seem to find a final "fix" or any identification to what the problem might be, other than the usual partitioning and preparation issues. When none of those apply I can't seem to move forward.
Please give us more information. Specifically, what phone u have (Leo or Tmous) , what SD card u have, what partition u used. Also need the exact steps u went through in flashing.

I've got the same problem, installing a rom with sense 3.0 or 3.5 doesn't get booted.
I've got a EU leo, with a 4gb kingston sdcard.
it would be nice to install the Runnymede Sense 3.5 android 2.3.5 v1.2 OC daemon & hierOS kernel rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275119
I tried this, i installed many roms but all sense 3.0 and 3.5 hangs at bootup.
I used :
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery_leo.img
boot yboot|ro 5M
system ya 220M
cache ya 5M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
with the daf.exe
Then i installed wipe_it.zip with magdlr
Reboot
Then i installed the runnymede rom.
It says install completed
It reboots automatically
When it starts i get the blue droid and nothing more.....
When i reinstall another rom with sense 2.3, it functions normal
I tried it on another HD2 leo of a friend of mine and i get the same results sadly enough.
Would be great to have some suggestions.....(serious ones, i now i can go out and buy a sensation)
It's a EU (Norwegian) HD2 with a 2GB SanDisk microSD. Do not know details about the card. Ripped it out of an Ericsson X10 Mini Pro I got laying around for quickly testing these new tempting roms.
Now, let's see, this is my previous effort to make a clean install:
- Task 29
- Hard reset from MagLdr
- Wipe cache, Dalvik and battery cache from CWM.
- Partition and format 1Gb ext from CWM.
- Ran corresponding recovery from MagLdr USB flasher
- Uploaded zip with CWM usb mounter
- Ran installer zip
It starts booting but gets stuck at the htc logo. All other roms boots nicely. I am suspecting the memory card size but only on a hunch.

Heestp, did you partition your sd card first? You need an ext partition (say either 1gb or 2gb) for the rom to load. Remember to back up any data on your card first, as partitioning it wipes all data from the card.
You can use cwm or the hd2 nand toolkit to do this.
Everything else you've done sounds ok.

Hmmm... I guess it could be the size of the card (perhaps too small?)
The other thing to check would be the size of the cwm partitions. E.g. for the dansta runnymede roms you need 5/220/5.

I'll be interested to know if it is the card. I note that on his Runnymede thread, Dansta mentioned that for a 1GB partition you need at least a 4GB card. Tried to google this but couldn't find any info on it. But he may well be right....

Glad you got it working!
Holy smokes, I think it worked!! I stuck my sd in a usb adaptor an did a repartitioning through the disk utility in Gnome. Partitioned a 2 gb ext at the end and installed the rom over again with all the clearing and formatting needed.
It was the sdcard total size.. or just the sd-ext..
Now running Team bluedroid RunnyMede.. I can hibernate my phone.. gigglez.. :-D On my third reboot now and looking good.
edit: Sorry samday, I totally missed out on the fact that this was documented in the dev thread. My bad. RTFM right? :-D

Ok, 2 possible probs I can think of :
1) cwm partition should be 5/175/5 (NOT 165 as you have). I'm assuming you're using the EU version on a 512 Leo?
2) your description of your SD card partition is confusing. Usually you have 1 or 2 gb ext, & the rest is fat32. Yours seems to be the other way round.... If your ext is really 7gb, it may be too large & unstable (so I've been told) .
Anyway, try changing the recovery first & let us know how it goes.

Hi I'm having the same problem with TBD runnymede 3.5.
It won't boot it just keeps at the TBD boot screen I have tried both 1gb ext partition and 2 gb with 0 swap. I have flashed it crazy untill now. Idk maybe i'm forgetting something... Why can't i find a manual
I am using magdlr and cwm to get it working but got no where so far.
First i flash, then i partition then i put the rom on the fat32 partition using a sd card reader. Then I install the rom.

Enabling storage of EXT4 on SD-card

Hi
I recently installed a Sense 3.x ROM from the Sensation XL Android 2.3.5 and I got only 9MB of free space. I have an initrd-patcher for ICS and JB, but I doubt that it will work on older versions of android.
Is there a way to make android 2.3.5 use the EXT4 partition on the SD-card?
Yes, you have to flash an a2sd or DataOnExt script after first boot/flashing the rom immediately. Of course, while having an ext partition created beforehand.

Thanks for the reply. Can you recommend a good script for doing this?
I'd suggest this one, but there's a whole lot of other ones. So if this one doesn't work well or you don't like it, don't come here asking for another one. Instead, go out there and look for the one that you like.

I used initrd_patcher_v2 on Gingerbread 2.3.7 and it's worked fine. So it should work on GB 2.3.5 as well. Remember to make an EXT4 partition on your SD before any installation, via recovery, and remove any script like a2sd from zip ROM.

You don't understand, I mean can you format you phone and install this rom again with my advices?
Did you made an EXT4 partition of 1GB or more, with Mini Tool (free), on your sd BEFORE fresh installation of this ROM?
I checked your ROM and the script (apps2sd) is already in that ROM so you probably make a wrong Installation.
Sv: Enabling storage of EXT4 on SD-card
I do understand what you say. I made a task29, clk repartition and recovery from hd2toolkit. Under installation the installer asks if I have 1024mb us model or 512mb EU version. I selected the EU version, as this is the one I have. The only question it asks me is if I have magldr or clk.
After that it returns to clk recovery and I press reboot now. I have created the ext4 partition before I even tried installing android the very first time.
If you want, I can perform a new installation with a video recording to document the process

Do not use CLK or HD2toolkit this time.
I will recommend to do in this way, before touch your phone format your SD with GUIFORMAT (look here on XDA for it) in FAT32 normal mode (no quick), after format the SD use Mini Tool and make a ext4 partition of 2gb (2048mb) at the end of the SD, so when you look at the partition the ext partition have to be at the right side of you. Put inside the SD the zip of Sensation XL 3.0 only, do not do anything else with your sd.
Format your Phone with Task29, reboot in Bootloader,
Flash MAGLDR 1.13 for HD2,
From MAGLDR 1.13 via USB Flasher flash the Recovery Touch Beta 8, (I provided you the Recovery ready for you, unzip and flash)
Reboot in MAGLDR,
put the SD into the Phone,
run Recovery,
Do a wipe data and wipe cache partition and wipe dalvick cache,
Install from sd the zip via recovery,
In Aroma do not select any option if you don't know anything about it, the installation will recognize the EXT4 partition automatically and you ready to GO, GO, GO.
Let me know.
