hey guys,
i have one (very important to me) question.
I´m using MIUI ROMs on my HD2 and as you might know every week a newer version is comming out.
Yesterday i created a knew ext3 partition for my current ROM.
Can i flash the new ROM like an update or something else ? So i don´t have to create a new partition and install all apps again ?.... I am using of course MAGLDR and Clockwork Mod....
I would be glad to get an answer to this ...
Thanksss....
As long as it's just a newer version of the same rom, just go into CWM, go to backup/restore, and make a backup. Then flash the new rom, and then in CWM, go into backup/restore again, and do a custom restore, restoring only data and sd-ext.
Then the only difference you will notice is the new rom, not the loss of apps and data.
To update version of same MiUi Rom:
copy the new ZIP file to SD card.
reboot to recovery
Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
DON'T WIPE DATA
Flash the new Zip file.
All your apps are there with the new ROM.

Hello, although I've installed some rom's till now i'm still not sure:
I've installed Dorimanx latest rom (3.0.6) with his kernel, and I really liked it. But for some reason got a wifi Error, seen on forum it's a knows issue and that changing kernel might solve the problem.
downloaded hierOS kernel and now i'd like to install it. could I install it from cwm without reinstalling my rom? according to some threads it's possible but it just doesn't make any sense to me because it's on a lower layer.. thanks
please?
no one knows? or maybe i got it all wrong?
Just follow the instructions in the kernel thread. You may have to replace the initrd.gz file but there is no need to fresh install.

Sure, read it. but it won't guide for installing after rom is already running, but only for normal mode. And I'd like to go to cwm and run zip of the new kernel, [again, rom is already installed, not coz im lazy to reinstall rom, mostly out of curiocity]. thanks again
HierOS kernel is supposed to be for SENSE builds, so I don´t recommend using it with CM build. There are better options. Tytung, older DM kernels, new 2.6.35 bases etc. You just download zip, copy initrd.gz of your ROM if needed and flash via recovery as ROM. It won´t overwrite your data. You should wipe cache and dalvik too

Thanks, I'll go on tytung. according to his instructions I should just delete initrd.gz b4 installing. and I will also wipe cache and Dalvik. But shall I "format system" as i saw on other thread? or wipe data?

Just wiping cache and Dalvik cache will suffice, unless you need to wipe your current rom....Wiping system or data clears all files from those partitions, resulting in a loss of files the rom needs to function.
Well I think I've succeded, thanks. But I still have that Wi-Fi Error. so i guese changing kernel just won't do.. or shall i try DM older Kernel?
Hello,
I have old Defy with Bayer module. Which software is better for me? I heard that GB kernel has a bug - full CPU thortle. But when it happens ? Does CM9 have any other bugs ? And is it possible to record videos on this?
Thank you for answers !
Hi,
which Kernel is better is related to the software you are using. But you can't be wrong to use the CM7 Kerner with Quarx newest builds. If you want to use Cyanogenmod 9 I would also recommend you to stay on Froyo-Builds, it causes less problems with the camera.
Im of course considering proper kernel for proper CM7 version.
If you use CM7, I see no reason to change to a GB-Kernel-Version, cause it makes nothing better. In additional the newest nighties are made by Quarx for the Froyo-Kernel. See on ge. tt/8rDd1nC
Edit: No space between the dot and the t
But I've heard that GB kernel is much faster... This problem with max CPU use is problem of soft and will be never fixed on this kernel ?
kernel doubt
hi sorry to bother you
i flashed cm7.1.0-rc1.5-jordan-signed.zip a couple months ago, working fine.
i've been wanting to try out the new cm9 builds.
mi kernel version is [email protected]# 1 i dont know if this "froyo kernel" o "gingerbread kernel"
1_which rom sould i flash... quarx (29 jan) or epsylon3 ( 31 jan)?
2_do i need to flash another kernel previously?
3_what steps do i need to take to flash it?
4_will i be able to downgrade back to froyo 2.2.1 or at least my current cm7 ?

1) both roms use froyo kernel, so you can try anyone.
2) you don't have to flash any kernel, cm7 uses froyo kernel aswell
3) I've just flashed 31Jan, I was using cm7 previously. What i did:
-reboot, when the motorolla logo displays, wait for the blue led to show and then press volume down.
-then you go to recovery, latest recovery. (I highly recomend to do a backup (nandroid) before wiping data)
-wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache.
-install from zip file, and choose either 29jan or 31jan zipfile. (remeber 31jan has gapps included, if you go for 29jan you should install gapps too)
-wipe cache.
-go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache.
-reboot!
First time to boot will take some minutes.
4) If you want to get back to cm7, just recover your backup (nandroid) or follow the same steps in 3) but installing cm7 zipfile.
Hope it helps you, if any more experienced user finds an error in what i've said, please correct me.

Thanks for the correction, but I've just came back to CM7 by restoring my old nandroid, without wipe and worked well.
camera doesn't work.and some small bugs

Is there a way to make an update from V1.1a to the newest version without a full flash? I wish to avoid a reinstallation of all Apps and settings
I installed 1.2 straight over the top of 1.1 and it worked no problem, all apps and data unaffected.
Otherwise, do a cwm backup, then clean install, then cwm - advanced restore - restore data.
So you have copied the V1.2 Zip-File on the SD card and flashed the version with 'AD recovery' in MAGLDR?
I have flashed v1.4a, from v1.1a .
I did this:
Copied the ROM to my SDCARD, Backed up current ROM (Just in case), wiped dalvik cache, installed ROM, fixed permissions ('cause I installed an a2sd script), rebooted into ROM.
(Took about 17 minutes) at first.
just done a 1.2a to 1.4a dirty upgrade, no backup/restore, just straight over the top, no fix permissions, nothing, , no problems (well, not in first 4 hours anyway)

Is that the item 'wipe cache partition' in MAGLDR in AD Recovery?
In cwm choose advanced and you will see wipe dalvik
Yes, i found it, thanks for your help.
Do you think additional work is to do to erase dalvik because i'm using Link2SD? If you display an app in this program the part 'Dex' seems linked to dalvik and has moved for apps which are stored on the sd card.

Yep, they never left the system, there was no wipe,,,phone running fine, on 1.2, downloaded 1.4 using phone, restarted into cwm, ran the flash, rebooted, done. I wasn't even at home, I was on the train.
Admittedly there isn't a huge amount,, maybe 10 apps, and some data, but there was no setting up to do except for the PAD /PAL stuff,, contccts, wallpaper, shortcuts, loclscreen shortcuts, all exactly as it had been 4 minutes before.

it means start cwm and click advanced - fix permissions
have been doing update just flashing over the existing pa, no problem at all. so answer is yes.

Ok, let me clarify a few things for you:
1- I backed up my ROM (Because I was expecting a bootloop, so I did a BU just in case, it's not necessary if you know your ROM's going to boot.)
2- I wiped dalvik/fixed permissions because I use (amarullz d2ext) which requires a clean dalvik & fixing permission, if you don't use that script, you don't need them.
3- Other than that, you can do just like sam, install the update on top of your current rom and you should be good to go.

Is amarullz comparable with Link2SD, then i must do it in the same manner?
I have tried it before a few minutes, but it fails in a bootscreen with the HTC logo. Android doesn't start.
What i have done:
1) Copied the file paranoidandroid_hd2_v1.4a.zip to the SD card,
2) Enter MAGLDR
3) AD Recovery
4) Wipe Dalvik, fix permissions
5) Install Zip from SD card
6) choose Zip from SD card
7) choose the Zip and confirmed it
I have made a backup so i could restore the system and everything is like before.
Fix permissions AFTER installing the rom. There's nothing to fix until then.

Thanks man for this. When i flash new rom, i did these steps:
Task29
Install Magldr
Partition
Wipe all data/factory reset
Wipe partition cache
Wipe Dalvik cache
Flash ROM
Flash update, addons if nessessary (Do i need reboot before do this step?)
Now i know when use wipe dalvik cache.
I read somewhere about task29 many times make the phone "bad blocks". I did it hundred time when flash new ROM
May i flash new ROM without task29 & install madglr, just do from step 3 above?
Thanks all.
Hello everyone. I like CREED V4 and tried installing final build but every time I end up with bootloops. Is this rom fail, or I am doing something wrong?
I followed this tutorial:
1. Flash stock DDLK2 rom as Xicor Yagami said in his thread
2. Boot into CWM recovery
3. Wipe data
4. Wipe cache
5. Wipe dalvik cache (just in case)
6. Wipe battery stats (just in case)
7. Flash CREED V4 rom
8. Reboot
If I am doing something wrong, tell me the right tutorial for installing
After flashing stock DDLK2,follow the steps:
1.Boot into CWM.
2.Under mounts and storage,format system,data and cache.
3.Go back and wipe data and cache.
4.Again go to mounts and storage and mount all the partitions (All should show unmount)
5.Install zip from zip sd card and choose Creed V4 rom file.
6.When the installation is completed,go back and wipe data, cache and dalvik cache.
7.Once done with above steps, reboot the phone!
This tutorial works for every rom.
