I know this has been asked but i am new to Android. This is my first device i am tring to root and cannot root i have tried using Iconia root and Gingerbreak. Both do not work on my device. I don't want to take my device (Acer Iconia A500) to a older android software. and was wondering if somebody can point me in a direction of a valid way to root HC 3.2, i would be in your dept.
Again i am sorry for making this tread i know it has been asked and asked and asked but there is alot of bogus things and/or solutions for older software for my device.
Unfortunately, to root 3.2 due to the new acer bootloader, you first have to rollback to an older version of HC.

Not that it can be a little bit unstable, but most folks were able to work with it, and have success.
After you get your root, you can flash most of the 3.2 roms in the dev forum for the 500.
It seriously is not as bad as it sounds to roll back to the 3.01 software, root, and then install your custom rom. once you get the files downloaded, you'll be good to go in less than 30 minutes (probably less than 15 if everything goes flawlessly).
Yea I was surprised at how quick and painless the process was, and some of the custom ROMS are far better than the Acer OTA one. The rollback to 3.01 I believe is the simplest but I think I read before of someone rooting 3.2 without rolling back. It was a very complicated procedure though and I wouldn't recommend it.

This is what i feared is i had to go back to a older system, but i understand and i may do it. All i need to know is does going back to the old software delete all my files on here and if so whats the best backup program to use? by files i mean apps, music, and settings.

Anything on the sd card is safe (if you keep your music and fotos there). As for apps, the Market always remembers paid apps, and the newer market usually remembers most of the free apps you downloaded (I believe the apps are synched to google), so when you flash a new rom, it usually (in my experience) starts to download them all once you login to your account on first boot.
Out of luck on settings though. Installing a different rom will wipe away all user data. App settings, etc. You can use a backup app like Titanium backup, and backup like game data and app settings, then restore them after flashing a new rom, but really, I feel it's better to get a fresh start on a new rom

If you are worried about backing up your apps, there are free apps in the market that will create backup files of your APK's. As for music and files, i find that flashing a new ROM they are still there, but just to be safe you can transfer them to a usb stick or something if you are worried about losing them. As for settings in the apps, you might be out of luck. I don't know a way of keeping them, but at the same time I never really cared to.

I used method #2 in this link and it worked great for me. Then installed one of the rooted 3.2 roms in the development section and was up and running in no time. No data was deleted and all my apps were ready to go. When you first boot after the downgrade you will get a bunch of force closes, don't worry that is normal. Just follow the directions, install and run iconiaroot1.3, then install the cwm recovery through the acer recovery installer, then install the rooted 3.2 rom and when you boot up everything will be working correctly and you will be rooted. Also, I downloaded and installed the iconiaroot 1.3 and the acer recovery installer before downgrading so everything was ready to go. After you install and enter the cwm recovery, only wipe dalvik and cache before installing the 3.2 rom. If you wipe data you will loose all of your data. Took me about 10 minutes for the whole process and I didn't loose any data or have to re-install any apps.

i downloaded the zip file and installed the files in the zip file to my external cd card......then when i try to reboot using the power+vol-down keys it starts to load files then the android emblem comes up loads to 3/4 the the bar goes away and the android stays and now has a caution symbol in the middle and then the tab boots normal with all normal software......and help as to why i cannot flash the old software
Sounds like the file got corrupted. If you downloaded from a PC, try downloading it again. If you downloaded from the tab, try doing it from a PC and then transferring it to the tab.
I have 3 Kindles Fires and 2 of them were rooted with the Android Market installed so I could access all my apps. i have never messed with any roms or anything other than locking the wallpaper with root explorer. I have been trying to restore back to stock for 2 days now.
I have followed several different methods including TWRP methods and I can restore to stock easily, sign back in and get the Kindle registered. I can download books fine, I can stream videos fine BUT I cannot purchase any apps in the Amazon Market or view any of "my apps" in the market. Any time I try to the "authenticating" box pops up for half a second and then kicks me back to the Amazon App store main page.
I don't know what to do from here. My first Kindle (that I never rooted) can access/purchase everything fine. I have already contacted Amazon to verify there are no problems with my account on their end. I have wiped wiped wiped and factory reset and update.zip and update-kindle-6.2.1_D01E_3103920.bin countless times but both the previously rooted Fire's cannot function properly in the market.
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!
it's a shot in the dark but have you tried to unregister at the amazon website and the reregister with the kf ?
maybe it helps ...
another idea:
if you'r unregistered goto settings - apps - amazon market - clear cache - clear data - force close - then try reregister

I have not. I have deregistered and reregisterd on the device itself repeatedly but I have not tried on the Amazon website. Thank you very much for the advice and I will go try it right now.

When you flashed the zip to go back to stock, did you wipe everything first? System, data, cache, davlik cache. Might try a full wipe then flash the stock image.

I always wiped everything before flashing, including the sdcard, thinking it may have contained corrupt data preventing the market from authenticating correctly.
I'm really bummed. I was kinda hoping when I posted this that somebody else who had the problem would know a solution. Not sure what to do with the Kindles from here?
Seems odd to me that I have 2 Fires with the exact same problem. That leads me to believe that its either the update.zip that's faulty ( although I downloaded the bin straight from Amazon and had the same problem as the existing update.zip's ) or more likely something that the rooting process I followed ( nat3mil's ) changed that the back to stock is not replacing. Is that possible or does the update.zip actually replace everything to stock?

Yesterday I just kept trying the update.zip that is provided in one of the threads here but the morning I actually downloaded the bin direct from Amazon ( same as the link you provided ) and I tried flashing that following the instructions on Amazon and also in TWRP with no luck.
you can't flash the bin with twrp
and you can't install with the amazon method if you allready have the same version
rename the bin file to update.zip and flash with twrp
then it's like out of the box

Thats what I did. First I tried the Amazon instruction method, in the Kindle updates folder, and when that didtn't work I renamed to update.zip and flashed with TWRP.
EDIT: when I say it didn't work I mean it flashes fine but I still can't access my apps in the Amazon Market
then you have a kf like out of the box !
there is nothing more you can do at the kf side
you can try to set it to factory defaults in settings
otherwise the problem has to be on your accounts at amazon
edit: i think i heard somewhere that it takes some hours after registration until the account is fully functioning. no guarantee ...

I have done a factory reset in settings several times also. I emailed Amazon last night and this was their reply,

I don't have my Fire with me at the moment because I am at work but the sync was not working right, you are correct. Its says my device sync is not activated and it won't allow me to toggle it on.
Here is my situation. I acidentally installed a custom rom over my stock JB 4.2.1 installation and I want to know if there is a way to restore my original JB rom without loosing my root and recovery. My current plan is to use TWRP recovery to wipe all caches and internal memory. I have a stock JB rom and after clearing everything I will reflash the stock rom.
I know I should have made proper backups, but I guess this is how I will learn. My goal is to make my nexus 7 the same as when I bought it, but I want it to still be rooted. Will my plan work?

I'd say use mskip's Google Nexus 7 Toolkit (found here) or Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit (found here) and be done with it. I use mskip's toolkit (personally) and have no issues with it. Use it to restore the N7 to factory shape (4.2.1 is the JOP40D build, the latest, if that's your intention), then boot it up, enable the USB debugging, get back into fastboot mode then use the toolkit to root it, you're done.
If it takes more than a few minutes to do this (which I've done several times in the past week) then you're doing it wrong.
A clean wipe is going to kill the root which must be redone and only takes about a minute itself.
OR, another alternative:
1) Flash full factory ROM
2) Unlock bootloader if not already in that state
3) soft-boot any custom recovery you want to use with fastboot:
fastboot boot recovery-image-file.img
4) Overflash a minimal root package (Superuser.apk + su OR SupserSU + su)
Moral of the story is that even if you flash a completely stock ROM with no root, because you have an unlocked bootloader you can install whatever you want right over the top of it without ever having booted it once.
I suppose that a toolkit might also be able to assist you with such things, but doing things from the command line tends to be better for learning how things work under the hood.
Wug's toolkit will help you do just that. You can even put back a stock rom and root it again

I have one last question though. After I logged in with my g-mail, my device started to download all my applications automatically. I had a titanium backup that contained about 70% of my apps and so cancelled the downloads so that I could restore the backup. (I have capped internet so downloading apps that I had backed up seemed like a waste). So now I want to know if it is possibile to download the other 30% of my apps from the store automatically because would prefer to avoid pressing the install button multiple times. I've been looking for some kind of option but I was unable to find it.

I've had mixed results with the auto restore. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much. Can't say that I blame it though, what with flashing different ROMs, restoring old backups of different ROMs, having the backup feature turned on sometimes & sometimes not...
At this point, the Play Store app on the N7 seems to show me (in the My Apps section, "ALL" listing) every app I have ever installed on any of my devices linked to the same account (including a Google TV device). Not quite what you are asking, but it's certainly better than a few generations ago where - if the auto-reinstall failed - you would have to try to do the same task from nothing but your memory. (Or restore an old backup and have a look-see what was in there)

I want to save the recovery so if any issues ever occur, I can just flash it and have it covered under warranty, and also to be ble to return to stock wen I sell the phone.
Is there a tool i can use to make a nandroid backup? On my Nexus 7, There is an all-in-one tool and I can make a nandroid straight from my PC. Is there anything similar for the s4? If not, how to I make a nandroid backup? thank you everyone for your help, I appreciate it

I'm not entirely sure it's possible to do a nandroid backup without first having a custom recovery. However, it is "always" possible to use the Odin method to return to stock (including stock recovery). Personally, I installed TWRP and immediately did a full nandroid (including system, boot, cache, etc...) and I've frequently found myself restoring pieces of it as I manage to screw up different things. I did return my recovery back to stock once by using the "dd" method to flash the stock recovery.img onto the correct emmc block. There's instructions how to do this exactly on the TWRP homepage (make sure you get the correct phone - block numbers are different for different devices) - but instead of re-flashing TWRP, I pulled the recovery.img from the giant Odin image available here on XDA.
It may also be possible to use "dd" to pull a copy of your existing recovery image as well, but I've never tried it.

You better find out what odin is because it's the only way you'll be installing twrp. And don't count on tibu restoring all your apps seamlessly. Never reinstall system apps.

I installed TWRP through GooManager. I looked up ODIN and got general info, hopefully I won't get stuck, but I'm sure I'll find my way around. Thank you so much for your help! I figured that sys apps will just be for stock, but i have a MC4 save that i don't want to lose ::cyclops: it looks like it's CM10.1 time for me!

Here's the thread that explains how to return to stock using Odin. Be prepared for a large download.

In short, "Odin Mode" is the download mode that's built-in to just about every modern Samsung device, beginning as far back as the Captivate, afaik. Each device has a button combination to enter "download mode" or "odin mode". This special mode sometimes requires specific drivers to connect to your PC. Flashing stock firmware using this method is common, but with an unlocked bootloader, it could be used to flash about anything. It's like a secondary recovery in a sense. It's harder to destroy download mode, but still possible if you mess up the bootloader somehow.
For our device the easiest methods to get to download mode are:
- Hold down the power button until the device force-resets itself. The moment the device turns black, release the power button and begin holding down the Vol-Down button. The device with vibrate once as usual, but then you'll see a screen that you've never seen before (begins with "Warning!!").
- Using any shell, such as ADB Shell or a terminal emulator, give the command "reboot download". This may require root privileges, I'm not sure.
- There's apps for this - haven't tried them yet.
As for Titanium backup - I love this program and have purchased Pro (totally worth it). As others have said, it's a bad idea to backup/restore System apps. Only do so with extreme caution. It is possible to restore only the data from system apps, but again do so with caution.
While Google does its own job at re-installing apps after a factory reset (if you allow it to), it usually doesn't backup data for each app. I have a couple authenticator apps that I backup this way, and it works great for this. I've also managed to keep my copy of Angry Birds Samsung Edition from my Infuse. Other applications that have since disappeared from Google Play are still backed up and get migrated to each new device I purchase.
And for that matter, with almost every User application, you can easily back it up (with data) and restore it on a completely different ROM. When changing major android versions, you sometimes will find apps force-closing on you, requiring that you wipe their data... but I haven't had that problem in a long time.
You'll see some other things that you can backup, like SMS, Access Points, Bluetooth Pairings, etc. .... I recommend only restoring these with caution - especially cross-ROM or cross-device.

I have a rooted shield tv pro 2017. I have SU installed but not TWRP which I boot from fastboot. I want to completely wipe the shield because I have begun to get sluggish behavior and a lot of apps crashing at random times. To include Leanback Launcher crashing. I have backups made with TWRP in case something goes wrong. Can I do this from TWRP so I can wipe all apps and data without leaving behind orphan files etc.

No. Not even one response....Haven't tried it yet because I don't want to brick my shield. I know there are people on this forum that have either done this or know how, but no one is responding. I also noticed that where I asked the question is perhaps not the appropriate thread to ask questions so that may have something to do with the lack of a response.
I guess if you wipe user data, it will factory reset.
I would uninstall SuperSU first. Probably not necessary but safe.

I can say I'm more or less in the same boat as you are, with a small difference: my Shield is not booting at all, so it's sitting in the drawer and waiting. I wouldn't mind trying to flash the update from within twrp (I also flash boot it, it's not installed) but it seems difficult to find someone that actually has the OTA public*.zip for the Shield Pro 2015 (started the thread here but not one answered so far). I guess my best chance will be to get a second Shield Pro 2015 and get the OTA update file myself
