Settings > Wireless and networks > Tethering and portable hotspot ?
The settings for the WiFi hotspot should be there.
For me, under "Wireless and networks" there is no tethering option... wtf

People can call me crazy but there simply isn't that tethering option there. What's going on?

You probably didn't flash correctly. I have tethering in mine.
I have it too
This is my screenshot. Someone help me please...
Try factory resetting and/or reinstalling the pkg, I know on At&t roms tethering is hidden by default and that it's potentially possible to hide it in any stock rom.
But 407 does not have it hidden by default, it might be a bad config file from a previous rom. Did you have tethering before upgrading to 407?
Unfortunately I cannot be of much assistance. Other than recommending a factory reset and flashing the ROM again, there's not much else I can tell you. I run a custom Gingerbread ROM so I haven't encountered this issue.
My best recommendation for you is to flash StreakMod recovery and then flash the DSC ROM. If after that you still don't have it then you must have a different type of Streak or something
Can you go to settings/about phone and provide a screen shot?

PS... for any of the guys viewing this post, I'm curious to know why the pics from my Public Share folder on Google Docs would not load here to xda? I had to use my Dropbox account
Don't get offended, you mis-read my post
I was asking to see your settings/about phone (in portrait mode please) because I wanted to see all that you had installed on your phone, and you are clearly adept at taking screen shots, so you can avoid all the hassle of writing it down.
I can clearly see you do not have wifi tethering from the OP

Same thing happened to me !
I have tethering in mine menu! But my Dell Streak was simfree, and unlocked when I purchased it.
BTW, there is a workaround to get the stock tethering functionality. Just get "Quick Settings" or "Quicker" from the Market and use their widget to switch it on and off and access the settings. As TheManii said, the setting is just hidden on some stock locked roms...

Check if your APN settings are all correct and in place
I don't have the option either, but I can turn it on via elixir2 widgets.
so I don't care.
i dont have it either..
i had a stock dell streak 5 with the latest Canada rogers rom before i updated.
there was tethering before nothing now..
would be nice to fix but i dont use it..
doing to flash the Stock Deodexed 407 tomorrow see if thats any different.
everything else seems fine..
update
wifi tethering seems to be an issue of the sim card as with my bell card that has a working internet apn there is the wifi hotspot menu, but i started with a speakout sim (and no internet connectivity) and the hotspot menu was missing until i changed the simcard and set the apn to work with bell i surfed the net and rebooted and hotspot was there.. and its still there with the speakout sim in now
and after a few reboots wifi teathering is gone again with the speakout (no Internet with this sim card)
so i think it is definable as sim card/internet access related

I don't know how I did it. But I did go here and enabled it to side load APPS.
I used Launcher Pro but still use the Dell UI.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970893
I use QUICK SETTINGS and when you bring up the settings screen
In Quick Settings Click the Menu Button on the Streak and choose Customize and scroll down and you will see hidden items Press on the right side of the screen and move it up above the hidden bar.
.
Click on WIFI hot spot and it takes you to the below screen and then turn on portable wifi hotspot and then select configure.
The configure screen looks like this.
When you turn on the WiFi Hot Spot it turns off WiFi Network. Make sure 3G Data is enabled. I checked this with my laptop and was connected to my home network. I disconnected from there and connected to the AndroidAP network hot spot and the data connection worked. I loaded a webpage and it was fairly fast.
Gotcha! Thanks!
I am trying this. But I don't see "quick settings", only regular "settings". Where/how do I get to quick settings?
Go to Android Market, Quick Settings is a free application.
Got it!! Thanks!
you could probably use Launcherpro activities to go into the settings section and find the exact spot where the hotspot is located...
I surmise and if someone wants to play around....
go to dbdata/databases.. and with sqlite on your phone start going through the secure areas of the databases, especially carrier provider settings.
I am sure there is a 0 instead of a 1 near something that should display the hotspot by default. with that I say.. Happy hunting... I will stick with 341 for now.

I really don't know. I came across it by accident when I found that when I accidentally hit the menu button on the streak and another screen came up and and saw the customize button on the screen. Then thought I would check and see what happened.
Nice find. Even with Quick Settings being the way to activate, it is better than not having the option at all!
Noob question, I know............. Is this rooting the Streak or simply allowing "side loading"? After I use Launcher Pro and install Quick Settings, can I remove the Launcher Pro or does that have to stay? Is all of this reversible? Thanks in advance.
I'm new to this my self, The Streak isn't ROOTED. Everything I've done can be undone by reversing the steps to install unknown resources and Remove Launcher pro as far as I can see. My Streak is stock AT&T locked version as you can see above on the first post.
Yeah, I also have the stock AT&T 2.2 and I would like to have the wireless hotspot. I just didn't want to mess with rooting. I am going to give this a shot then. Thanks and good find.
Working great for me as well. Awesome find. Should I type *#*#308#*#* on the keypad to unload EM App? Also, can I uninstall Launcher Pro or do I have to keep the app?
I don't know, I am going to keep mine like it is at the moment. I don't know what *#*#308#*#* does and haven't used it.
I got that from the link that you gave to enable sideloading. So after I chose EMlist installer and I installed quick settings do I just leave Launcher Pro installed?
Well, I uninstalled Launcher Pro and Hotspot still works. Thanks again
!
You should keep launcher pro because stage launcher sucks and is way laggy by comparison.

Not sure if all official AT&T 2.2 has no bloatware but mine does not. I have no lag. Very snappy with stock UI.
yeah, i went to the 340 rom and find it to be the most stable and snappiest stock rom yet.
everything works..good battery life.

Good find...
I bought a HTC INC2 from a guy last week. It is unlocked so it works perfectly with my ATT sim and I managed to get 2G running. Then I checked the GPS, Camera and so on, everything looks fine until I wen back to home. Because there is no Wifi network in my work place so I didn't find the wifi seems not working. The phone cannot found any wireless network at all. I am sure I made the ssid is broadcasting. I was thought it probably not happy with my wireless router so I closed all security setting. But the phone still cannot find the open network. So I drove to our library where have public wireless access, still nothing. On my way back, I use my other phone as a hotspot, nothing happened even I put two phone together.
Here is a list of things I did in next couple days, went to a office building which hosted a lot of company. Almost all of these company have some sort of wireless network, my other phone in my right hand can found at least 10 networks while the INC2 which in my left hand can find none. I flashed the ROM to CM7, nothing. update radio, nothing.
Flashed to skyrider, nothing. update radio, nothing...
The guy who sold me the phone said the wifi is working perfectly when he is using it with verizon. He updated to iPhone month before so he didn't notice if the phone stop work with wifi after his update. He seems to me a honest guy.....
Now I want to test if the wifi hardware works. I really want to learn something from this frustrating thing. any idea?
TIA
Probably the wifi is not working. I do not own a HTC INC2 but can flash another radio/modem/wifi driver?
Also there is a hidden menu called Field Test Mode. It may have something about wifi. From wikipedia:
There is a hidden "testing" menu on the device that can be accessed by typing *#*#4636#*#* aka *#*#info#*#* on the phone's keypad. It will bring up 5 categories: Phone Information, Battery Information, Battery History, Usage Statistics, and WiFi information.
Other hidden menus from dial pad: (1) ##debug+call, (2) ##program+call enter six zeros example: 000000, (3) *#*#7262626#*#* - Field test menu, (4) *#*#2432546#*#* aka *#*#checkin#*#* - checks for updates, (5) ##778 (+call for Epst menu), (6) *#*#8255#*#* - Gtalk service, (7) *#*#8351#*#* - voice dialer logging enable, (8) *#*#8350#*#* - voice dialer logging disable

Hi!
I saw that a lot of people have trouble with secured wifi/router! Wifi is connected, full signal, but when u go on internet, internet connection is very slow,or it says "that there's no internet connection" . I found one easy solution:
1. Go to router page (mine is: 192.168.2.1)
2. Enter Username / Password (Default: user/user or. admin/1234 ...)
3. Go to wireless security settings and tick WPA(TKIP) or WPA2(AES+TKIP) --> MIXED option in my router settings .
4. Ok
5. Router will restart.
6. Forgot old wifi network and connect to new one.
7. Enjoy!
My wifi is now faster too!

I have tested it,for works like a charm. It loads google home page and google store in 1-2 seconds, before I change settings it loads in 10 seconds or It didn't load!
I found solution, because on new iPhone 5 was same problem with wifi like on our x8:

I can confirm, this works
Oh bro, what an idea. I never thought it could be solved like that...even mine's google loads in about 10 seconds... and i thought browsing on the X8 would be always the last option...

Well i have a 50% similar problem.. On stock my X8 don't even show my router name(Time_Machine) in WiFi settings.
But on GB it shows the network and works perfectly.
I repaired it with Update service.
Any idea where the problem is ?
No difference on ics , maybe cause it's accelerated the hardware
Tnx anyways

Hey guys,
Just got my Nexus 6p, love it so far. I'll be jumping in to unlocking the bootloader, and root here shortly when the SDK finishes downloading. I'm looking to unblock the wifi hotspot feature, since my past devices were rooted/rom'd and had this function. Anyone find it yet?
its already unblocked in stock Android 6.0 under settings you go to more and you will see Tethering & Portable Hotspot.

At&t has still found a way to block it.
Got it working through bluetooth tethering.
Ninja edit: found this guy here, had to pair multiple times, but got it going: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/bivQfyYPPD0
Look up how to activate it on the nexus 6 from last year. Works the same way

Got mine in yesterday and checked this function out and it started with no problems either. No info or warning pop ups at all on this Verizon phone.
I'm sure people may already know this... but I just found this out. If you have AT&T (or any other carrier blocking tethering on the nexus 6P) and edit the build.prop, tasker would not be able to toggle hotspots.
With Xposed, there's a module "X Tether" or "Moto Tether" that will enable tethering to this phone so that even tasker can toggle hotspots... Confirmed this is working for the 6P. fyi
blocked on Sprint........any Sprint users get around this w/out rooting?
Finally got mine rooted. The native hotspot app is still blocked for me, however, the Wifi Tether Router app does work.
Assuming you have root, you can do the following.
With device connected to computer and USB debugging enabled:
adb shell
su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
If you're using systemless root, you don't have to modify your /system at all for this method. I've verified this works for both Sprint and AT&T.
Hello guys!
I received my s8 today and everything is great except from the fact that mobile data isn't working (or at least not the way it's supposed to)
I can start and receive calls and my signal bar is normal but I turn on my data and nothing happens. If I go to the settings and go to change network and choose my carrier the it will connect to 4g+. Once I turn off the data I can't turn them back on unless I do the same process.
Please help me! I have no idea what I should try in order to fix that.
Need a little more info, what model and or carrier is the phone? What service/sim are you trying to use it on?

I think so, I checked them and they seem correct. Something I just realised, is that when I started the phone.for the first time I did it without a sim and now when i turn on the phone I get a notification: "New sim detected, do a factory reset.." or something close to that.
Yeah I'd try a factory reset and if that doesn't work totally wipe the phone and use Odin to flash your carriers firmware.

SIM cards can fail. I lost data one day very suddenly, turned out the card failed. Carrier gave me a replacement.

I finally fixed it, I did factory reset because sim was asking me to do so(back up your data) and then I did recheck my APN settings.
It's probably because of this setting below (see pic). I had a software update and for some reason it set my phone on never use cellular network but it has to be set either on Wi-Fi preferred or cellular data preferred. No factory reset needed. To access the setting, go to settings, connections, more connection settings, Wi-Fi calling and then toggle one of the first top 2 options.
