Resolved, with these 2 app from market.

It can easily be remedied by using a custom lockscreen.

Screen resolution issue??? WTF. The screen resolution on the Note is one of the main reasons people buy it because it is the best available.
I have the EXACT same problem, only the opposite. Not long ago I made a forum with regards to this problem but unfortunately there was no reply...
I have this strange issue that when closing a game or video for example or simply by turning off and on again the screen wallpaper seems to have zoomed in like crazy (200%) and it appears smeary/blocky...
It's really pissing me off I've still not been able to solve this problem.

This must be an individual problem. For if the Note was faulty as described then why isn't it a problem for every Note user?

did you actually read his post and look at the pic?
his note bugged out and cranked up the resolution, end result being that his icons look smaller and the grid is messed up.

Here is my wallpaper issue, kinda like the opposite to the ops...
The first picture is how it looks normally and the other 2 is after, one is in landscape and one is in portrait view.
When I tilt my screen from portrait to landscape that's when it screws up my wallpaper.
Otherwise if I turn my phone off then on it will start up just like you will see in pictures 2 & 3.
The ONLY way to correct it is to switch launcher to the default touchwiz and then back to the launcher that had the stretched/zoomed in wallpaper.
This problem does NOT occur in touchwiz but pretty much EVERY other launcher has the same problem, 3 launchers including ADW, Go Launcher & even Launcher Pro all give me the same issue.
Enough talking from me. Here are some screens of my strange issue. Look carefully at screens 2 & 3 as they are zoomed in and quality is bad.
Screen 1 is how it should look!

@kanej2006, hmm, not too sure, havent had that issue before, been using SPB launcher 3d for a while now as well.
just tried swapping SPB to landscape mode. it screws up the background whilst its in landscape mode (stretches/zooms image), but the lockscreen image is fine in portrait mode (ie. the way the picture is meant to look).
i normally just use my phone in portrait mode anyway, but have you tried seeing if theres an app or mod that would make the lockscreen appear in landscape mode instead? that way it will minimise bg image distortion? (im a nubb with modding)
This is interesting. Wonder if we abuse this "bug" and can change DPI dynamically depending on the app.

Hmm, no I have not tried an app that keeps the homescreen in landscape mode.
I was actually thinking of trying an app that LOCKS the homescreen, to keep it in portrait mode. This way it might not stretch/zoom.
This problem happened with most launchers, with touchwiz it never happened.
Any good apps to lock the homescreen? Thanks.

I've tried this but the problem when disabling 'auto-rotate' in the pull down notification bar is that when going through photos or browsing the internet the screen is stuck on portrait mode. There are times when I need to switch to landscape mode.
What would be useful to try would be to somehow lock ONLY the homescreen to portrait but not the rest of the menu. This may work but I'm unsure how to lock the homescreen only.
Guys I'd just like to say I've finally fixed my strange problem with the wallpaper stretching by iteself or when rotating the screen it would change and zoom in resulting in a bad quality image.
The one and only magical app called Wizardrii, wicked app & a life saver.
I simply downloaded & installed the app, ran it and when selecting my wallpaper I select 'scale image' which will then set your desired wallpaper in fullscreen mode and even when switching from portrait to landcape the wallpaper would remain unchanged, just what I wanted!

Hi guys, I was just wondering if there was a way to make the lockscreen stop auto-rotating? I know this is a feature in most ROMs, its just it feels real weird when I open my Portenzo case and the lock screen is off. I still would like the launcher to rotate, just not the lock screen.
I'm running ParanoidAndroid 1.98
Thanks:laugh:
Of course there is! Just swipe down from the top of the screen to bring up the notification tab. Then up the top of that you click the icon to the left of the settings button - its is an icon that looks like a device with two rotating arrows either side of it. This will toggle the lock on and off.

Heh, that disables rotation for everything. I'm looking for something that disables rotation for JUST the lock screen.
Weird, my lock screen has always been portrait-only on my N7, even though I have rotation turned on generally. On my Transformer TF101 on ICS, it rotates and drives me nuts.

Ultimate Rotation Control had an update (mine was yesterday) which allows for Lock Screen rotation. If you have the app installed, just update it and it will work.
Funny, it just updated. Works.
does ultimate rotation control still cause lag on the tablet? does it take the home screen a while to refresh when you rotate the tablet? i tried it a few weeks ago but used to find when i rotated the homescreen it would take a second or two for it to redraw and prior to that it would cause video to stutter when playing

My lockscreen started auto-rotating when i first flashed the BAMF ROM. I have moved on to ParanoidAndroid ROM but the rotate feature stayed
Running PA 1.98 in tablet small mode with apex and it rotates the lockscreen/homescreen natively without the need for any apps. It could be related to what mode you're running.
Ultimate Rotation Control is really cool! I've now got my lock screen forced to landscape, and my home screen rotates. Very cool. This was really the last piece to keep me on the Phablet UI instead of needing to root and change to the Tablet UI. I really like the pull down notifications and the centered soft buttons, I've grown to love them better than the honeycomb/ICS Tablet UI style.
Ultimate Rotation Control is cool, but it's always sitting in the background. Kinda extreme for such a simple task. Plus it doesn't really fix the problem. When I open my smart cover, if the lockscreen is in landscape, it forces it to portrait... which sounds ok but it shouldn't even be in landscape to begin with. So you're having to wait for it to do it's thing STILL before you can unlock it.
Ultimate Rotation Control DOES force the lockscreen to Portrait, but there is still a rotation delay there.
I'm looking for a way when I open my tab, it is just always in portrait and I can unlock without hesitating. At this point it seems a lockscreen replacement such as WidgetLocker or just disable the security screen altogether.
Anyone else know of a simpler method? Maybe a stock lockscreen replacement apk file that is forced to landscape. My phone is always locked to portrait but my tabs freely rotate.

I'm on latest version5.7.7 of Ultimate Rotation Control with annoying Unlock screen rotation issue. I lock the screen. The screen is off. I put phone in pocket. I pull my phone off from pocket and press power button. The screen is on but THE UNLOCK THING JUMPS FROM PORTRAIT TO LANDSCAPE. How to solve this? .
I have been using my grand for more then a year now, it is the only cellphone I used during this period or you can say primary phone or daily driver and here is my experience-
(Rooted,Stock Rom 4.2.2)
Hardware side-
The side bezel is still holding that silver coating except from the part where the charging cable is plugged and some places near the back cover.
I would say that it fine.(Have never dropped the phone and hope to keep it that way)
Screen -
The screen is well protected by this scratch less screen guard (using it for more then 4 months) which gives a little sparkling effect which I find little annoying but is ok as I have used my cell without flipcover for like more then 1 month and still scratches can't be seen on the screen (Unless one looks closely for them).
The screen is quite big for my hands and after using this phone I feel that a 4.7 inch would be more suitable to me, also I feel that they have increased the screen size by expanding the breadth more then it should have been which make it a little uncomfortable to hold and gives it a cheap look(just my view).
Sim-
I have had 2 sims on my phone but never really used the second one except for a month or so, in my experience the phone becomes quite laggy when both sims are kept active and more so when you use your second sim for data and first for calls.
Switching between the sims gave lag of like 2 seconds and sometimes even more.
Hang-
When the remaining internal memory gets lower then 1gb the phone becomes real slow and near 700 mb or less left it hangs for like once or twice a day(in which case i had to reboot the phone by long pressing the power button)
I have to delete all useless apps(mostly games) as I do not like link2sd, gives mount script error on reboot and have got my nexus 7 for gaming and stuff and have put all my music(20 gb plus) amd titanium backup on my 64gb external card.
When the free internal memory is like 1.2gb or more the phone works fine.
Battery-
I use Greenify to stop apps that are less important from running in the background and consuming the battery.
I have ran this phone from 100% to 1% for 42 hours during which I made like 30min of phone calls and near to no use of internet(whenever used it was on my wifi) and rest of the time it was idle, the network was WCDMA ONLY on my BSNL sim, that was the highest I analyzed, maybe it can do better but I don't bother putting it to test.
Issues-
(Other then those mentioned above)
When continuously using the Samsung Keyboard for more then 5 minutes I experienced massive delay in keyboard, almost to the extent where I had to exit the app and restart, this was not one time thing as it went on to happen consecutively 3 more times.
(I was using Google Keep)
In also lags a little bit in general usage.
While using any app if I long press the home button most of the time the app I was last using is not present in the recent apps list, this is quite prominent and is noticed on a daily basis.
Now when I go to the home screen then go back to the recent apps the last app is still not in the recent apps section.
4.2.2 update kinda destroyed some stuff which was pretty fine in 4.1.2 like the switching from dual sim thing and also the internal memory bug. I'd recommended switching to one of these KitKat ROMs out there.
Sent from my GT-I9082 using Tapatalk
I won't mind switching to a KitKat ROM if they implement dual Sim functionality with considerable perfection, most probably by then I might as well have switched to some other cellphone.
I agree 4.1.2 felt more stable, they also removed the option to share music directly from the default player, I miss that one some times.

4.2.2 gave more functionality, like the lock screen widgets on left and app drawer or whatever you say on right, transparent notification bar, stock gallery saw a little change in the interface and many more things, like the light effect to unlock and so on.
Though most usefull one I feel was the vibration effect i.e. the phone vibrates when a call is picked up on the other side, saves a few seconds of distraction or a little less radiation to your head if you want to talk scientifically, earlier I achieved this feature by using an xposed module.
Regarding problems in 4.2.2 I have written all of them in the OP, most noticeable is the recent apps not showing up and that keyboard lag.
If you want to revert back to 4.1.1 then have a look at -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364293
Personally I think that if single Sim is not a problem for you then you can try cyanogen mod builds, I haven't tried it myself as I think that it ruins the whole point of having a dual Sim phone but it is definitely smoother and faster then stock.

Just stop using the stock gallery app, I use quick pic, it is fast and perfect, though if you still wanna use the stock gallery then from time to time you have to go to
Application manager - All - Choose Gallery and then choose clear data.
It shows 95gb or more data, known bug.

That's an inbuilt thing, I don't think you can change that, regarding warranty I don't think anyone uses it, maybe 1 in a thousand have to, you are upgrading firmwares yourself what is the need of warranty.
Only check for a week or so that there is no manufacturing defect and then just root and experience the power of android.
Also you can unroot your cell.

originally for KITKAT roms only. Settings should work fine on lollipop.
OK, so I love changing the DPI of my phone and apps. so i thought why not share what I know with others.
These are the apps that I feel are needed to be changed , so if you think i missed one just tell me and I'll add it.
another note i don't use the touchwiz launcher and different roms can use one that's modded.
of course your phone needs to be ROOTED
you can use whatever app you like to change your DPI, I used xposed app settings and would suggest the same
NOTE 4 default DPI is 640
In xposed app settings to change your system DPI you turn on
android system & system ui
and change it to your desired DPI (320 for me).
(you can also change it using the build.prop)
I guess its necessary to say this:
IF YOU CHANGE YOUR DPI IN ANY WAY, DO AS STATED BELOW
These apps you will need to change back to stock: 640
camera
camera test
com.sec.android.gallery3d.panorama360view
com.sec.android.ofviewer
com.sec.android.sviewcover
com.sec.phone
contacts
gallery
incallui
com.android.mms
phone
photo studio
s health
samsung camera filter
touchwiz home
video trimmer
not changing some can cause it to not function properly or FC
These setting are recommended if you use them:
S-Voice
- you don't have to change the dpi to stock unless you want to but if you get a FC change the screen dp to 480x854
Samsung Keyboard
- you can leave it the same as your new DPI or change it to stock DPI if the secondary icons alignment bothers you, check the box 'apply res to widgets',
Lockscreen (com.android.keyguard)
- you don't have to change this one back to stock but if you use lockscreen security the bottom will look weird
- to change it to stock, enter the stock DPI (640) and check the box 'apply res to widgets'. A reboot will be requried
Smart Remote
-change dpi back to stock and change screen dp to 320x480
Calendar
-if you use it I recommend you change it back to stock because the on screen notification size will be off
Wink app
-it will think your using a tablet and causes issues so change to stock
Swiftkey
-resize using keyboards builtin resizer
PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO HIT SAVE ON EACH ONE AND REBOOT YOUR PHONE AFTER
IF I MISSED ANYTHING OR YOU WANT ANYTHING ADDED PLEASE TELL ME
THIS ARE MY PERSONAL SETTINGS AND IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO THE SAME ITS AT YOU OWN FREE WILL

Thank you for the visual comparisons! Definitely gonna play with it for sure. I feel that the UI elements are just too large and its confusing since its a large phone with higher resolution! Appreciate the screenshots!

Man I don't know why it doesn't work for you - see my fingerprint lockscreen attached - build.prop is set to 480 and modifying keyguard worked for me (setting via appsettings to 640 and apply res to widgets checked and then full reboot). This was when I was setting up my phone so I did clear cache and dalvik cache in TWRP at some point, though I'm pretty sure this worked before doing that.

I have been changing DPI for my android phones since the first Galaxy One. I changed to an iPhone and now back to Galaxy Note 4. I really don't get why the screen elements are so big which render a big screen useless unless you have sight issues. They should at least give us options to do this officially instead of having to fiddle with rooting>exposed framework>changing dpi>setting each app up or even having to find specially sized apk files.
Come on Samsung! Is there a way to fix the S Health Pedo Widget after changing the DPI?
Thanks for the guide :good:
Amazing guide! Thanks for this :highfive:

2. When I add a frame to a photo it appears broken and too small
this one isnt working when setting it back to 640.. (com.sec.android.sviewcover) when i close my sview case Im only seeing have the image buttom half is black out where sliders are...
Any suggestions??

1. I forgot about that one you have to change calender back to stock sadly enough
2. I am not having that issue, I'll attach a screenshot. I have been editing my settings this past week since I had a rom update. I'll double check the setting difference and let you know
Make use of that super saturated 2k panel!
1. Download the Android SDK
2. Extract it to a desired location
3. Navigate through the extraction to SDK > Platform Tools
4. SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK anywhere inside this folder and click "open command window here"
6. Make sure you have the correct drivers for your phone
5. Turn on USB Debugging and plug your phone into the computer
6. Tell your phone to trust the computer
7. In the command window, run the following command but replace *** with the desired DPI (I use 540)
Adb shell wm density ***
8. Reboot phone to have changes fully take effect.

Isn't 640 DPI better than 540? What do you gain from changing it to less dots per inch? Bit of a n00b since I always left displays stock on phones.

It changes the dots per inch.
The benefit is you can fit way more stuff on the screen and force apps into tablet mode on a non tablet device.
E. G. Dpi is 640 and the dialer may display 5 contacts. You change the DPI to 540 and it may display 7-8 on the same screen. It is almost necessary with a phone this big unless you have bad eye site because the phone utilizes the screen real estate so badly in Stock dpis

The setting determines what size the phone will make elements on the screen.
If the DPI setting is low like that, the device thinks it's a tablet and will scale things smaller for the bigger screen.
The device knows the screen's resolution. The device needs a setting to scale screen elements to a good size for the size of the screen.
So lower DPI effectively tricks the phone into thinking the screen is bigger than 5.7" and scales elements smaller for the bigger screen.

I SEE what you are saying! I was thinking we were reducing the amount of dots or pixels that will be used in the display, overall changing the resolution! Thanks for clearing that up bruh.
@PizzaSauce thanks man, this cleared up a lot. Thank god you made this happen, first time with a note and it felt like I was on a Playskool phone from fisher price.

Yeah, you got it. If root ever comes out definitely get xposed framework and app settings which allows individual dpi settings for apps. I'm guessing this workaround does it on everything, which is still really cool cause the only way I know to do it manually is by editing the build.prop. Similar to how you can add capacitive buttons
Dialer app is missing logo and things seem odd. Can't add anymore apps to the screen, everything is just more smushed together. Running ART should I wipe cache via SDK?
Nothing is lined up either.

I noticed the stock dialer thing too. Ended up using a different dialer app; ExDialer w/ Android L theme
I don't know about not being able to add apps, I use Nova launcher though.
Not sure about the ART thing, I'm on Dalvik myself
Does this chance persist through reboots?
Just a heads up, the stock samsung apps bug out when you change the DPI. They are still usuable but for instance the dialer and camera apps no longer use the entire screen.

It will persist until you manually change it or do a factory reset

If a lower DPI setting is more important than using stock apps, there's a lot of great replacements out there.
If not, you're better off waiting for root and Xposed
AWESOME!!! Everything looks so much better now. The camera and phone thing is a bit annoying, but worth it to have everything else look so good. Thank you
Thank you, this was one of the only things i missed about my rooted Note 3.
Main reason for missing root on this phone. Thank you so much for sharing this information!
One of the four things I wanted root for
Thank you so much!
The dialer doesn't bother me in the least, but does any one know how to change the default camera (it is not in the default app settings) I found a great alternative, DSLR Camera, but I can't set it to be the default camera on the lock screen.
Thanks again!
Thanks! The size of this phone is pretty useless without this. The stock apps look weird but still work fine.
Can you post some pics of the stock apps? I ran like a 300DPI on my N3 and would like to see how the stock apps look when changed.

Hello everyone. I'd like for this thread to be a repository for Edge screen developments you'd like to see come to life.
I, for one would love to see edge notifications which when swiped, slide out the app they represent, like a drawer.
Go ahead
I'd like for notifications to scroll across the panel when the main display is off.

I'd like to see Yahoo Sports create a better ticker that allow for all sports, not just the teams you choose.

I would also like that same feature to come with a setting for adjusting the scroll speed and duration of the preview. In the stock configuration I find that it happens way too quick and there's no way to call it back up.
+1 also on a more comprehensive sports ticker.
And a suggestion I have been calling for is expanded settings for the edge panel itself. Specifically I would like to be able to adjust the background opacity to completely clear.
Already a thread about this.

In my opinion I think Samsung missed the obvious when they didn't put a clock and battery indicator on the notification panel(or any panel), especially because any app the you use on landscape mode you can't slide down just a lttle bit the regular notification slide down menu to get that hint on battery % left or the time without exiting my game, video, etc.
What I would like to see on my edge screen? Everything on the top of the phone when used normally should go to the edge when used on landscape, not some text that does nothing for you. The actual notification panel would be awesome cause then you will have the weather aswell.

Idk if they will.
You do know that if you turn the phone the other way you can access the notification panel.

For some apps/games yeah but for others that are landscape only nope. Some of this games I had in my S4 and I was able pull the notification slide down menu sideways or in landscape but in the edge it ain't happening, not even by orienting my phone vertically. This is the only thing that makes me think the Note4 would have been a better choice.

I've experienced it in Gunship Battle, The Simpson's Tapped Out, Stickman Downhill and Stickman Base Jumper. Pretty much every game I have that's forced landscape.

Ahh I see. The issue those apps forced landscape one way. Try a rotation app that forces the other way so the edge is on the bottom.

If you flip the phone 180° in landscape so the edge is down, a small swipe on the top (now opposite the edge) does what I think you want
+1 for the expended and customizable notification when texts/emails are displayed

Only works if the app supports both landscape orientations. Those games don't...
I guess it just comes down to each user.
I haven't had any apps not work the way I said.
I believe all the app will rotate 180 tho.
Edge notification panels
I think of all things that this phone is missing, are fully customizable panels for use on the edge screen.
Being limited to the 5-6 standard ones you can get for the phone, I find myself starting to regret getting this phone.
I was seriously hoping that the user would be able to create or even modify the panels a little more heavily.
Who the hell will use the yahoo stock app for god's sake? Would have been better offering a custom panel instead.
I am going to be looking into this to see how hard it is to create/manage these panels.
I will need suggestions as to what people would like these panels to do. Please try and think of what you want and post as many suggestions per post as possible so its easier to get an idea.

This guy has made an edge panel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/themes-apps/edge-navigation-bar-button-t2950486
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.ianbyun.edgepanel.navigation
that shows the BATTERY % , TIME, date, day and
* on the first panel:
Red Stripe icon
one click: Notification bar
double click: Quick settings
Yellow Layer icon
one click: Recent apps
Blue Home icon
one click: Home button
Green Backspace icon
one click: Back button
White Lock icon
one click: Flips to second panel
double click: Power button
* on the second panel:
Grey Aperture icon
one click: no function yet
Grey Upward icon
one click: Volume up
Grey Camera icon
one click: Camera
Grey Downward icon
one click: Volume down
White Lock icon
one click: Flips to first panel
double click: Power button
Can you make an Edge panel that hides the statusbar and places it on the edge screen?
