I'm going to go with "something's broken"
Could you give more details? Does the battery not hold a charge? Does the LED indicate that it's trying to charge? Does the phone power on when plugged in? Does it power on when unplugged? Does a different battery charge okay?
Yea I'm guess its a fried emmc. Makes no attempt to charge. No led. Even plugged in can't start or get to boot loaders so shell have to get a replacement.

If the phone won't power on at all when plugged in AND THE BATTERY IS INSERTED (That's important. It won't power on when plugged in with the battery out no matter how well it works.) then the phone is pretty unsaveable.
does the computer see it when you plug it in?

OK so we got it working with a charged battery but doesn't respond to USB at all
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
If it works with a charged battery, and you see no response to USB - then the problem is most likely physical, one of the USB VBUS (power) contacts is disconnected/broken.

i dont think a fried emmc would stop it from charging , my G2 had a bad emmc and it charged perfect , like they said its deffinetly a physical problem , my mytouch 4g has a physical problem too , mine charges but will not mount , and if it does mount it connects and disconnects over and over every 5 seconds

If you have insurance then go thru TMobile, if not, you are screwed. Samsung will not help you or anyone that purchases their products. All you will get is a "software reset" along with a message that it "passed all functional testing"
Check the pins on the usb port on the phone and on the charger, I read someone having an issue and he had some dirt covering on of the pins inside the usb on the phone. Try cleaning them somehow without damaging...

It's hard to say. It could be either. Does the phone ever charge up at all? (when it's powered down?). If not, I would first try another charger cable, to rule that out. If that doesn't solve it, then I'd be suspicious of the charge port, and most likely take it in to sprint. A little more info would be good.

There is a known issue with Evo charger its referred to as -charging port durability by Sprint- take it to a repair store and if you have any issues ask if it is part of the above know issue. This does not apply if its been pulled out by physical damage.

Yes but when the phone is completely shut off and it's plugged in, does the charging light come on and stay on?
Sent from my hand with XDA Premium installed
It's your charger more likely cus it happened to me with a cheap charger. So I think its your charger. But if your using a legit charger from like sprint/htc, then something is wrong. I only use HTC chargers.
Sent from my HTC EVO Phone, should'nt we all have one?
This same thing happened to me, took it to a sprint repair center. They gave me a new USB cable and cleaned the port on my phone. Worked like new after that.

What rom are u on? I'm cm7 and it does the same thing when I'm using the phone while on the charger. As soon as I turn of the screen my battery begins to fill up.

Does it do it on Factory UNrooted? If so, I'd say take it back to sprint while it's unrooted and on the factory stock rom and have them replace or fix it
I had the same problem with a refurb I got that replaced my original Evo. It worked fine for a week or two, then one night, I plugged it in as usual and woke up the next morning with a battery on the verge of dying. The charging light was even still orange when plugged in. I tried every charger I had (evo original, BlackBerry, Samsung, Sprint car charger...) to no avail. Charging with a wall adaptor and USB port on computer yielded the same lackluster results. It did this when rooted and not, with custom and stock roms, and didn't change with kernels. I ended up having to charge my spare battery with a wall charger for the battery and switch every hour or two. I went to the store and they looked at it and gave me 2 new batteries and a new charger (for palm pre) and tried to send me on my way. I plugged the charger into the wall at the store and showed the repair person that it was still losing battery while plugged in and "charging". Needless to say, I got another refurb right away that didn't do the same thing.
Bring it in to the store and get yourself a "new" phone. It worries me a bit that they might be pushing these refurbs out to stores a bit to quickly.

Make sure your laptop is plugged in & charging as well, otherwise I don't think it will work.
Make sure you have the drivers installed as well. I read in the motorola site somewhere that the computer won't charge unless the drivers are installed. Also it charges much slower than the wall outlet does.

Usr USB 3.0 port if your laptop has one so it supplies more power. USB 3.0 will charge almost as fast as AC.
Beamed in from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium app
Just let it be. it won't turn on if the battery is below a certain level. Let it sit and charge and it will eventually turn on.
Here we go again.. Only the 1,500th time this has come up..
yes.. Have you been flashing ?
And if it stucked on bootloader you will need factory cable...
Or ..
You can buy a charge only cable just like me, from ebay.. Very cheap.. The phone can boot without even battery! That's why it can be charged if you stucked o bootloader!

You returned it because of battery life?. What do you mean?.
I tought you returned the phone because of the locked bootloader and because its a bit easy to brick it.

I have read a post about factory cable,it seems that it will be powered on forcibly when plugged via this cable even without a battery
How to make it? short the +5v and ID pin?i dont know, just search this board
Please help me, my phone is Atrix 4G, to unlock the phone two days ago when the phone can not boot. Installing the battery press the power button nothing happens, remove the battery, plug in the power only the green light in the light. How should I do?
Google how, to charge your phone without a charger, you will have to sacrifice a usb cable. After you put a charge on it, reflash a gingerbread sbf file. I suggest the 2.3.4 pudding full sbf since you want an unlocked device.

thanks for your advise ,but when using a USB charger, the computer can not find the device, and I did install the correct driver.

What I suggested involves cutting the end off a usb cable and manually charging the battery with an electric current, if you would have searched there are several YouTube videos that show you how to do it.
If the phone won't start with a charged battery then you have no way of fixing it.

Everyday my battery icon turns gray and a little exclamation mark comes out. When I plug the charger in it just blinks and after a while it begins to charge. Could it be a bad battery?

That's weIrd...have you had any battery life issues? And are you stock or rooted?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
I'm rooted. My battery I guess has been fine. It dies quick though. I think I need a new battery... In every Rom I use I end up with the same thing.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
I have seen this happen, however, its usually when my phone is plugged in. You see, I have 2 mt4g phones. I leave one plugged in, and when the battery gets low on the one I am using I will go to the one that is plugged in, and remove the battery to switch them, and while the phone is still plugged in, that grey icon will appear. I know it sounds weird but if I remove the battery from my phone while its plugged in, it stays on with that icon you are talking about. So possibly you may have a bad connection with your battery and phone.

Might be your charger but check your battery for bumps in the center if it has a bump its your battery
My charger is fine. I'm sure its the battery. My phone dies so quick
