Sorry to disappoint you...but MIUI cannot make it happen for our beloved SGS2 because CM9 is not release yet....so better vote for another phone.
Firstly to the OP, this isn't the voting poll for porting of V4 for devices, its just a checker for how many device users are there, and priorities!

Exactly! MIUI are a bunch of dumbs who just know porting, they cannot dev! Only theme, no disrespect to themers here, I just feel they are too closed source! They won't even touch SGS2 until a stable port of CM9 is released!
LOL, just have a look at their changelogs, rubbish! No changes for SGS2 from ages, they cannot fix things! MIUI is still the same for us since the official support began!</rant>

Really? A bunch of dumbs?
Theres too much bashing to the miui peeps. Just because they're basing their rom on cm it doesn't mean they don't know their ****.
Have you actually used a miui rom to have such claims? They've added ****loads of features that aren't present on cm. You should know that.
Just because they dont work on lower level stuff or doing any kernel work doesnt mean they're not developers.
Get your facts straight and stop repeating what nosey "pro" developers claim around here.

I have used a MIUI ROM, and some additions are very nice. I do like the VERY verbose battery logger. But that doesn't change the fact that MIUI is still a derivative of CM, and until CM9 comes out I don't see a MIUI v4 for SGS2.
I'm using MIUI myself. I have to say that I hate the fact that they're close source, but the current MIUI just works way better than CM7 or TouchWiz based roms. Until CM9 is stable enough for me, I'll stick with MIUI.
To all the haters:
If you don't like it, don't flash it. If you need to complain, do it better.

One thing though, I wish they would use less white, for better battery life.

Is TouchWiz based on an open source Custom-ROM? I do not say that they don't have the right to make it closed source, but I don't think its good to take other peoples work and don't give them anything back.

No No No! lol, i meant they are awesomest themers! they theme damn good! But remaining closed sourced at such speedy developement times! :/
They just release weekly releases, without any actual fixes, oh yes how many fixes have the MIUI team given us since the support time? I don't hate MIUI or the Team, but they do neglect some things! Like bug fixing? trouble shooting?
And I was ranting that voting to the poll doesn't give you speedy updates! We still gotta wait for CM, MIUI will follow!
And PS - Im on MIUI just for the themes!
Sorry for the rant, no offence to any member or the miuichinese team
I really don't know..how far this voting will be considered..last time I voted for S2 and Galaxy ACE..but no updates since then...

Sure thing, I'll just grab their source which they share back to the community (including that GPLd kernel) and cross check it with the CM7 source to see whether there is anything matching in there.

There is no point in making a rom for gingerbread as it is good the way it is and tremendously fast as well.

It is actually to get a fully optimized stock Android experience without, Samsung's framework.
Darkyy's Rom is by far the best I have used. I used the Cyanogen Mod Rom from Aery and Coolya and thought that the performance was incredible, but it lacked all the functionality for day to day use.
You get a team together like Darkyy, Supercurio and Aery/Coolya working on a Gingerbread port, then that is a Rom worth paying for. (I'm aware that all their work would be fairly separate, but if they have a shared github, that would be ideal)
Gingerbread will be further optimized than anything at Samsung at the moment and will allow more modifying through a more compartmentalized android framework. I understand that even the notification bar now has it's own APK. Someone like Darkyy could really exploit this and turn the Android experience into their own (then share it).
Once a cleaner ROM is available for the Galaxy S series, it could make for speedier updates within the Dev community when compared with the Carrier controlled updates that are causing us to lash out at Samsung.

2 things. Every rom no matter how bug free is a beta. Number 2, if you can't get it unless you have donated then it is a paid release. If it was an alpha super buggy pos that warranted secrecy and discretion to power users then it would be valid and im wrong, but I don't think it is.

Looking foreward to trying it, once it's out and stable, TW does great work. I'm all for donating and supporting developers, but I think myself as well as others would be more likely to pay, ( I know it's donating, but this model is being used to make money) for a ROM, in beta, if it was 2.3 and had something to offer other than what is out there currently. Not complaining or ranting, just my two cents on the matter.

Quit *****in about it being in the donator section of tw and labeling it as "paying for a rom".
This was picked up by 2 people who aren't the "lead devs" of TW (som, viral, krylon, ttabbal) and they wanted to further on 1.2.1. This isn't a continuation of an official bionix, but rather and off-shoot sanctioned by TW.
And they aren't FORCING you to pay for the rom. It's still in development, and probably will have more bugs for a first beta than we have come to "expect" from TW roms because it's being handled by new up-and-coming devs.

But the problem is we should not have to wait for CyanogenMod to release CM9. We have several talented and dedicated developers right here working tirelessly around the clock to bring us a stable release, and other don't want to see this happen.
I was waiting myself for CM9 but I got to thinking. Why should I wait, how long will I be waiting, what am I missing out on right now by waiting? With all the question floating around I took the plunge and flashed JTG ICS. Now I only have one question why did I wait so long to flash?
His rom is my daily driver. I do not live in a 4g area, nor will I ever get 4g (main reason I jumped Sprints money hungry ship), so that does not matter to me. Everything else works the way I need it. Its fast, snappy and responsive.
JTG has put a lot of time and care into his rom and for whatever reason the "other powers" that are out there cant look past petty differences and move forward and continue to provide for the community. I mean its not like the Evo is brand new and has every dev crawling hand over fist to dev for this phone. We have lost devs left and right. I for one am grateful for the ones that have stayed. It does not seem like others are as appreciative as me.
Reading back on that last paragraph it seems that the "other powers" are the Steve Jobs of XDA.
Posted in the other thread as i.missed this one. Not over in the 4G forums as much as in past here so i missed the whole kushdeck drama..
Imho there should be No reason to NOT let someone use your work UNLESS your trying to make money off it which last time i checked is against the rules to begin with.
And we were talking about roms not kernel source correct from what i gather, right?

This whole permission and this and that has gone out of hand...is one thing to give credit and say "HEY this person made this and I thank him for that" and is another thing for the person to request that you pretty much kiss their ass! Once again, people get away with this kind of stuff because noobs....noobs will follow anyone with a rom no matter what!!

Well tweaking a kernel would mean he would need to comply with GPL himself which I don't remember him ever linking his public git repo for source. Hell on rootzwiki right now he doesn't give it either.
Now its easily found via Google and has the branches there but not linking to it in your OP violates GPL in itself I'm pretty sure.
And I don't get the whole rootzwiki movement some make either. Have fun with less ppl giving you feedback on your stuff. If that's what you want in the end then do private versa and be done with it.

JTG beta 4 is the closet to a fully functioning rom. It has some minor lag at times an a couple of fc here an there but its a solid rom if u don't mind ffc an camcorder not working. Been running it since it was given out to some an its solid. Combine it with a viper mod tweak an its a daily to me. My only issue is that I don't think HA is fully functional, no offense to jared, as I can tell the difference on my girlfriends ics captivate compared to the evo version. It was pointed out when everyone started attacking jared about the gray background vs black in the settings if HA was fully function which I can clearly see on my girls captivate

NO he didn't make the kernel...tiamat did, all he did was modify it. I mean last time I checked, all of this stuff is open source SO how are you going to tell someone that they can't use what is just a modified version of open source??? This whole permission and this and that has gone out of hand...is one thing to give credit and say "HEY this person made this and I thank him for that" and is another thing for the person to request that you pretty much kiss their ass! Once again, people get away with this kind of stuff because noobs....noobs will follow anyone with a rom no matter what!!

Like I said...Jared has made great progress with his build of ICS, whether its is built off of someone else's or not, he's made some nice tweaks along with Mazda. I'm using Beta 4 with Mazda's tweaks and this **** is off the chain! I mean fast, stable, no force closes that I can remember and 4.5 is on its way? Jared is the only one I have noticed that actually Updates his ROMs in a timely fashion. Deck is still on alpha 5 while Drew is on preview 6 and been that way a while now. I say go with Jared because he's doing big things out here!!!!
I agree Jared is the real deal.I think its funny that for me haters Rom was the only ice Rom to make it on my phone for more than 30 mins. Hell decks I didn't even make it past signing in

Hi there devs,
We are in the samsung galaxy s2 thread and it feels sorry to see that no dev qualifies to roll out a rom that befits the original dev thread, i understand we hate sammy firmware but for what its worth, we are and sure we are using a flagship samsung device, and we don't have a single rom apart from raffale88s, common guys!!!!, even I in the last 15 days has learnt to use dsixda's kitchen and follow tutorials to mimic a mod....
doctorcete, pongster, petsasj......common guys, i know this post gonna get flamed like my private Guantanamo, but even then, it really is a shame that, none has really stepped out to release a rom worth the s2 original dev thread, please guys, the dev thread needs to see some action in the rom department....
Regards.
EDIT - The reason for the post was to encourage the inclusion of Samsung based ROMs in the Original Dev Section, and to understand if, devs who have already released roms who are in the android dev section, what should they make up for to improve on the aforesaid notion. From most of the replies I see, it seems, Google translate has been used to decipher the meaning of the post, anyways, please do not post if you do not want to contribute to the motion.
So you missed Paranoid Android, Slim ICS & Clean Blank ROM?
Among many many more. If you are after a Samsung ROM they are usually posted under the Android Development part.

Thank you for your reply, but I am from the ages when roms were made for specific devices and not cos the alternative devs did not understand what samsung devd for its own devices, so yes I have seen and used them roms but am not interested, and am imploring devs to make roms for samsung devices by samsung that could befit the original dev forums, would request you not to troll further if you dont understand the objective behind the post.
[email protected] Moderators: Respected gentlemen, it would be great of you if you could footnote all the criterion that aspiring devs could work on towards enabling modded samsung roms to feature in the oirginal dev thread or is that not a possibility
No dev befits in the original development thread? Cm9?

Except CM9, all AOSP ROMs in original dev section are kangs, aren't they?
Even there are no devs interested in porting SGS3, just because of the lack of interest in touchwiz. Even the sense 4 port project which is harder, got the ROM booting already.

i miss the old days of hyperdroid androidmeda where i use to lose 1% in over 7hours of sleep and battery lasted for 2 days easy
It would be biased just to speak about hyperdroid, irrespective of me mentioning its devs considering that many devs like wanam, tungstwenty, kahvitahra, homam, kahvitahra, gangs kid, dsixda have made significant contributions to samsung rom devlopment, are we saying that we would singularly acknowledge their contribtuions and not someone who would amalgamate all of them, i guess that ways cm9 is also not a single parent born baby, its made out of significant contributions made by singular such devs, why should that be original?
If the xda comm feels that all samsung rom devs are just win zip ripping trolls, please make us aware as to what one should do to really stand out, to start with i have this tarfile released by samsung and this humongous amount of dev material available in xda, what should i do to really stand out as a rom dev in the orig dev thread?

I do not agree. Devs are interested in porting the SGS3 Rom, but they symply cannot do it! So they say they aren't interested. The current generation of devs here on xda will port everything they can to get some reputation, even when they're not interested in the end product...
Porting a Samsung Rom from one Samsung device to the other is a lot, lot, lot harder then you might think...
There's no sources to port it and hardware is very different.
To give you an example. Many, many devs tried to port Samsung S2 Rom to the Samsung S1 I9000...
But only 1 person, a very experienced dev(Dhirru), succeed in making it boot on the S1. Allthough it booted, it had many not working features and bugs.
Which were never solved....
Same problems porting S3 Rom to The S2....
There's symply no devs left who are able do it, so they say: "Not interested"
And to be honest, I was one of those. I have been building Roms for years. I have been trying for days now, to port it. I humbly have to accknowledge:I can't do it

Isn't porting One X harder than porting SGS3's ROM? There are things that are same between S2 and S3. But One X.. The hardware is even more different. The manufacturer is different. It got HTC's frameworks. Porting One X is even more difficult, isn't it?

No, it isnt. Why? Simple. Go into a system apk in SGS3 dump and look for an hdpi folder. Unlike in One X, hdpi folder is not there in SGS3.

No. *YOU* may hate the original Samsung ROM, but many of us - me included - don't, and don't try to make either opinion a consensus, because none of them are.
There are several ROMs to pick from and all of them have their pros and cons. Personally, I am using an unbranded, all-stock Samsung firmware, but rooted and with Tegrak Overclock installed, with all bloatware removed.

You're the one who needs to start reading the original section mate. It's only 1, it's the foxhound rom.
The rest are.. Intratech's, which is definitely not a custom ROM, and checkrom&hyperdroid, which are gb roms

Am I missing something here? This very handy dandy index of original development lists 8 ICS ROMs, and also links the CM9 discussion thread and Intratech's original firmware thread.
And I believe there are more ROMs in the section that aren't on this index yet, but I'm not positive on that.
That's definitely more than one.

There are a bunch. They're all in the regular Android Development section. You know. Since they're not original.

Favorite NOT Best
First of all, ALL of our developers are very much appreciated, BUT deep down you know who your favorite is. Many other devices on XDA have this question posted, except the Atrix 4G (Olympus).
Feel free to thank our great developers below. This is a simple way to remind these guys how many people are grateful for their dedication.
At the top of this page you will find your voting selections. This vote is a one time choice and you will not be able to change it once submitted. Please be aware that this poll will not be visible when using the XDA app. You will have to press the menu button and tap "web view" to properly display this poll.
Please do not flame each other and ABSOLUTELY no feeding trolls!
I apologize if I forgot to include a developer.
* Note: Your vote will remain anonymous.
** Moderators, I just realized I posted this in the General Section. Please move to Q&A if necessary.

Poll your favorite rom developer? Sounds dirty!

Regarding your second comment: That would be awesome! You round up the devs and I'll get some glue!

I wish I could vote for both joker and epinter for their work in porting CM10 to the Atrix but I had to choose one so I went with epinter since I am currently using his rom. Thank you to both Jokersax and epinter for your hard work.
the poll very bad idea. they are very good developers and modders . all votes should be All of the above
Why risk disappointing our developers with this unneccesary poll? We should be thankful for all their hard work, not let them compete against each other in an arena (*star trek original series fight music playing*)
What a useless poll : they are all great !

i agree with that buddy the developers work hard for their family's 8 hours or more then on the free time work on android to bring us a better experience on android that moto cant give us. btw this is really unnecessary to the atrix development community to make a competition on wich better rom developer imho, as much of them are not present to support or offer more support for the threads as others because they are doing the background work and didn't have time to support threads. take an example of turl, faux, cm development team, samcripp, jokersax, thebill and all the people that work to unlock and root the device. without their helps we should don't have aosp development so please im dont want to sound rude or like im demanding something but you sure consider close this thread for the respect of the pioneers and hard workers developers here in this community.:good:
I think this is pointless too. My POV? They all work hard, and many of the ROM's we have are collaberations. Lets not forget that Faux's kernels are almost exclusively used. You cannot possibly pick one developer. Look at it this way.......at least its not another battery thread!!!

Lol.... but on a serious note, I got something good I've been cooking up & scripting to perfection all week for my next update. It will include something to please everyone and allow full customization of a ton of features, mods, apps and tweaks that are all chosen by the user and the updates will no longer only include my choices of what to include\exclude.
Hopefully I can still join the club and be a part of such an epic poll :fingers-crossed:
There is still time to have this thread deleted before there are more hurt feelings.....
