I'm starting to see reports that the price for the Samsung tablet has indeed changed in order to compete. Can anyone confirm? thanks
http://www.htcflyer.tk/smartphones/smart-phone/samsung/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-release-date
http://gadgetian.com/14647/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-wi-fi-june-8-price/
Here are 2 links..
I hope it will be $399 for the wifi 16GB, but I don't really think we will get that price on june 8th
This is getting me closer and closer to canceling my order with JR,, you think they will refund 100$ if the released price is less then what we paid?
I wouldn't say those links were reliable, but best buy still hasn't posted the price and we are only a few days away. That whats got me thinking that the 16GB $399 price is a possibility.
$399 would be a killer price. I would be surprised if they dropped it that low though right out of the gate although the TF is that price. I wonder if that would make the 8.9 $369.. I wish we could get more info on that model too.
Word is Samsung is try to compete with Apple's price. That's interesting what you said about the 8.9 being below the $399 mark. I see that appealing to business user even more. Would make sense if their are trying to make a big splash right from the start. But for now I going to just take it as a rumor until can confirm.
It's a rumor. They said at CTIA, when they were announced, that the 10.1 would be $499 and the 8.9 would be $469.
Agreed.
They already announced pricing.
Yeah they already announced pricing and I think it will still be $499/$469 although one could make an argument that the Tab 10.1 being thin doesn't justify $500 when the TF has IPS,SD slot and I believe HDMI all built in. Though it's not as thin.
IMO the problem with Android devices is there isn't much to separate them from one another other than price. Tegra2,HC,1GB, 16/32GB seems to be the basic specs.
Like I said give us a date for the 8.9 model
amazing if true, and would be an instant buy for me.. but i hope this means that samsung isn't cutting corners to make it happen. and i really hope that micro sd slot is there for the wifi only come june 8th
I don't believe the rumors of the price drop for an instant. Samsung doesn't have to price itself to beat the iPad 2, it just has to beat the other Android tablets, and looking around at what we got, I think Samsung has done that.
I'm not sure I'm buying a Galaxy Tab 10.1, because of the no micro SD slot. But I have a feeling Samsung is probably gonna be selling these things faster than they can make them for a while.
What I'm not certain about is the June 8th launch date though. They canceled that May 24th event for some reason and I don't think we've heard much lately. And two retailers, Office Max and JR.com are saying they aren't getting the Galaxy Tab 10.1 until late June (Office Max says June 24th specifically).
It could still happen on June 8th, but just at bigger retailers like Best Buy, Amazon and such and Office Max and JR.com are being made to wait, that wouldn't exactly be new. And Best Buy just put that page up. But it still makes me wonder.
It may not have to beat the iPad2 but it still has the TF that's $100 cheaper and from reading around it seems having and SD/microSD slot and HDMI built in which is a big deal for some.
The memory slot or HDMI don't matter to me but it does to some.
I like you wonder is the release date still the 8th. So little is being said at this point and still no 8.9 official date to my knowledge.
If they push the 8.9 till late July I'm probably going to start looking at other options

Transformer is the only decent tablet out right now in my eyes and at it's price it's going to be a very compelling alternative to the Galaxy Tab 10.1, especially with the micro SD and mini HDMI ports. I cancelled my pre-order for the GT 10.1 and just bought a Transformer again (had one before and returned it).
I've been on the fence between the Transformer and GT 10.1 for over a month. The micro SD is really big to me, because I don't believe 16GB of storage will fill my needs. So if I buy a GT 10.1, I'll have to spend $600 for the 32GB model. Since the Transformer has micro SD, I can buy the $400 16GB model and insert a 16GB card if I need more space. I'm saving $180 after you factor in a $20 16GB micro SD card for the Transformer.
But I'm giving up a lot of comfort. The Transformer isn't that heavy (much lighter than the Xoom and A500), but still quite a bit heavier compare to the GT 10.1. And the GT 10.1 has nice rounded edges on all sides. The Transform has a lot of corners, especially when held in portrait mode, it's not comfortable at all. This alone makes me think maybe the GT 10.1 32GB might be worth almost $200 more.
Transformer is a great tablet and I hope I'll be happy with the decision I made. But I don't think as many people really are going to put as much value into the micro SD slot as I do, or even that sweet keyboard dock (I can't even get one). The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is going to win hearts with it's sleeker look and design and better ergonomics and comfort. People will pay more for that.
I tend to agree with the review of GTab 10.1 IO Edition below:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ablet-when-size-does-matter-xoom-comparisons/
The weight and size are important factors for using a tablet.
I have an iPad2 that weigh just 600gram, and even that I feel quite uncomfortable to hold it very long
I know, I am skinny and I need to go to the gym ... but well, yeah ... GTab 10.1 for me
I hope your new Transformer is better than the last one, I returned mine and I'm now getting fed up with waiting for UK GT 10.1 prices, dates and spec. If it doesn't work out price wise then I think I'll likely try another Transformer, so long as I can get a good one.
I fall into the like the sleek looking stuff so the 10.1/8.9 for me but cheaper is always better I have a 16gb iPhone4 and it's not close to being full so the 16GB device would be fine. HDMI doesn't matter as nothing on the tablet I'd want to view that I wouldn't be able to view via PS3,PC,Laptop, etc
I just want to get some type of time frame. I heard the 10.1 may be pushed back and wonder if that is going to push back the 8.9.
If it's too much later then me being me would start looking at the HP WebOS device. Then you have the Amazon tablet later.
If the 8.9 get's pushed too late into the summer I may just wait on the quad cores or see what Windows ARM OS does
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00519RWI8/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
Its up on Amazon,..no price just like best buy. Things are getting interesting!
I had the Galaxy tab 10.1 limited edition for a few days (I was one of the lucky 5000 google io attendees). It was very solid and nice... and I sold it for over $900 in ebay and then bought a transformer from bestbuy for $433 (including taxes and shipping). Transformer is nice but GT is better (except the ports). My wife was so surprised how light the GT was (I also owned Gtablet and Nook color).
Anyways, I am returning my transformer to bestbuy and will get one from Amazon as soon as they start selling..(signed up for the alert). The extra $100 dollars is worth it.. GT 10.1 (by far) the best tablet out of all my past collection.(gtablet, nook color and transformer). Well, it is definitely not worth $900.. but $500 is a deal ( in my opinion).
I am debating to get my first tablet. But having a hard time deciding if I should get the Xoom or the Asus Transformer. Or should I wait to see whats coming in the next few months...
I researched and seems that the negative reviews of the Xooms was when it first came out so wanted some feedbacks from new owners or reviewers.
Please help me decide.
Rank these if your looking at the 32 gb models
1. Build quality
2. Updates
3. Price
if #2 is price then get the transformer
If you care about 1 + 2 then get the xoom.
If your worried about it being outdated then buy it from a place with a 90 day return policy for electronics

I don't know how you can do better on price than $399. at Staples for the fabulous Xoom.
Important to me is features and quality. I'm stuck between the two because I do like motorla products but the features on the TF looks great too. I've heard the TF has a better screen than the Xoom too. Is the correct?
Also, is there a retailer that has 90 return that can match the staples coupon?

The screen quality on the transformer is better. Light bleed on the transformer is a bit of an issue however.

Yea I just got the Asus today for a friend and paid $299 for that you really can't go wrong. The screen does look better and you have to ability to get the keyboard to make it a net book. She did that and I must admit its nice piece. I like my Xoom but if I had a choice since mine was purchased for me I would of gotten the TF...

my post wasn't very descriptive xD maybe he might want the $399 - $100 transformer.
@ OP The transformer has that laptop thing and a better screen + price vs functionality. The xoom has it matched everywhere else. If you don't plan on rooting then we are spoon fed from google.

At Staples you can get the Xoom for $398. If build quality mean's anything to you then Xoom is a No Brainer. This AWESOME device does not feel cheap. Screen looks great to me and I have 5 Blu-Ray's on it and get compliments all the time, and even from other ipad2 owners. Netflix looks Great. The Xoom for me

I do not know where he picked it up from but you can get it at Office Depot and they will honor the Staples coupon. Office Depot honored the coupon without any debate for me but if they do you can always point them to their policy:

How does our Price Match Guarantee work for in-store purchases?
If you find a lower price at another store on a new, identical item, show us the lower price at the time of purchase and we will match it on the spot. Or show us the lower price within 14 days of your Office Depot purchase and we will pay you the difference. Our price is the final price you pay after any discounts, coupons, instant savings and mail-in savings are applied. We will match the other store's point-of-sale price after deducting their instant rebates and coupons. We will not match the other store's mail-in rebates nor will we deduct the value of any gift with purchase.

MOBO Player, no lag at all. Used ANYDVDHD and DVDCATALYSTS 4 (Beta for Blu-Ray). Works Great
I have both devices and I am still trying to decide which one I like more. The Xoom is built better, no question. The TF has build quality issues, no question. The TF has IPS screen technology, a much better screen than the Xoom but you will deal with light leakage around the edges. The TF offers the keyboard dock which is probably my favorite feature. When I go anywhere with it, I can simply close it and set it down to protect the screen or case, then undock it with a simple slide button. I hate setting my Xoom down, it seems to leave it vulnerable to scratches or damage.
So my best advise is that no matter what you buy today, there will be a better device tomorrow. By Q4 2011, we should have a Tegra3 processor and Android 4 ICS. Then I will pony up for a "best device" and I'll be happy, for a week or so...
*EDIT*
Just for grins, I took a couple of pictures of the Xoom and TF side-by-side. Screen brightness set to 100% on all devices. TF on the left, Xoom on the right. Looking straight-on at the devices, there is a such a small difference. But at any side-to-side angle, the TF is definately better.
First image TF left, Xoom right straight-on
Second image TF left, Xoom right, 45 degree angle
Third image is TF left, Xoom center, VS GTab right straight-on

Q: How often do you need to view it from the side? Won't the Xoom offer more privacy from "prying eyes?"
I sold my Ipad 2 cause it was gettin boring. I've had android phones for the past 3 years. I now have the SGS2E4GT. Should I get a Xoom or wait for something better? Or is there something better out there right now?
thanks for the advice.
The Xoom is a good buy if you can get it at the right price.
I've had iphone, ipad etc and really like my new Xoom
it feels like YOUR tablet unlike ipad which has too many restraints put on it by apple
you can set it up just as you like it
I too got bored of the whole apple thing a while ago.
I bought a transformer prime on release in December but returned it as it had issues and for £500 I wasn't willing to accept that
My Xoom was only £249 and as yet everything works perfect
I changed my Xoom to the US version to get ICS early and its great
Its true there will be better tablets out but at a premium cost
For now the Xoom is awesome value

Well I will tell you why I went Xoom despite my love of the transformer design and the knowledge that the 4 Proc Prime was on the way....
It basically came down to the "Google Experience"!
The Xoom is basically the unit that was used as the showpiece for HC and Android Tablet and thankfully to have that priviledge Google insisted that the Bootloader be unlocked which was a new thing for anyone familiar with Motorola! ( I have a D2G and don't get me started on Locked Bootloaders there! LOL)
In the end it was a tossup between waiting for the Prime and Keyboard combo or going with the slightly cheaper Xoom 4G and the fact that the transformer had a locked bootloader was the final nail in the transformer coffin!
The 4 Core was very tempting but most of the apps and games don't take advantage and no point in paying a premium until they do! By then those units will be cheaper so maybe then I will upgrade but I have to say I have ZERO regrets going Xoom!
In fact I have been very pleasantly surprised at just how versatile and comprehensive the unit is!
I can read USB Hard drives even those in NTFS format, USB Flash memory keys even use a wired USB Ethernet adapter!
I doubt any iPad can do that!
The fact that the community can patch the Kernal at will means even more magic is possible!
You can never go wrong with a "Google Experience" device be it pad or phone!
My only hope is that Moto will unlock the Droid4 as well cause if they do I will stay Moto for the forseeable future.
They make great Hardware their problems have always been on the software side!
Unlocked bootloader makes that situation go away!
I can tell you this much - I absolutely love my Xoom. I have been going "Android crazy" over the last couple of months. It started black friday with Best Buy's Dell Streak 7 dump ($159) - gave that one to my daughter.
Picked up a Lenovo K1 at Office Depot around Xmas for only $299, which was a steal, but the tablet is not "pure" enough Android for me, and is buggy (it is on eBay now
Then, I found a very nice, barely used Xoom locally for $240. It was manufactured in March, so I was a little worried, but it was absolutely mint, and, like he said barely used. I was NOT disappointed.
Fast forward to last week, my Transformer Prime finally arrived. It is OK, but I am telling you, I like the Xoom better at this point. The Xoom's 1/18 ICS update went so smooth, and the Xoom is quick and stable. The Prime is not as solid right now, and I will honest with you - feels no faster than the Xoom with ICS in normal use (even though benchmarking proves it to be nearly 2x as fast).
I am going to keep both the Prime and the Xoom but the Xoom is a top notch machine. It is pure Android (even the prime has many customizations, though nothing as obtrusive as the Lenovo's).
I would say, yes - if you can get one for a good deal, go for it!!!
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
I've had both the ipad 2 and the motorola xoom.
To be honest I prefer the ipad 2, its much lighter and has a better interface.
I use the xoom for recipes in the kitchen but I wouldn't want to carry it around all day
I would wait for the new thinner version
Staples had the Xoom for something like $250 if you look on this forum you can find the thread. I guess it all depends on what you're looking to do with it. I passed on the Transformer Prime as the Xoom does what I need, I really don't need quadcore.
The 10" xyboard isn't an option for me as it is too expensive and doesn't offer enough to make me trade in my xoom. The ability to write notes is certainly something I'd like but I'd rather stick with a GED tablet and have the microsd memory slot.
ipad3 is due out in March if you believe the rumors and the hi resolution android tablets should be out between February on June. If I wanted a tablet now, the $250 Xoom at Staples is probably the best buy out there now. ICS reviews on the xoom have been very good, I haven't received it yet as I'm using a LTE xoom.
Lenovo's Outlet has a boat-load of NEW Thinkpad Tablets for sale with various accessories included.
http://outlet.lenovo.com/tablets.html
Currently the 16GB with Pen included goes for $386.75, and it's brand new from Lenovo themselves. I'd say that's a pretty amazing deal! That's $90 off their regular online store NOT including the pen!
If anyone knows the reason for this price difference? (other than maybe they're looking to release their quad core tablet very soon)
Thought I'd share the great deal, looking forward to receiving mine shortly.
Well, considering I bought my September, not so much >.>, and I got it at 490 after tax and shipping, but still. I thought this was one of the only tablets that wouldn't drop their price
I think the problem is excess stock due to returns and cancels from poor software and hardware performance.
well ****
my 64GB model cost me alot more...
Ditto, and doesn't even work right. Lesson learned. No more Lenovo tablets for me unless they give them away.

Which android tablet would you say "works right" in comparison to the Lenovo TPT? I just ordered mine and it should be arriving next week complete with Folio Keyboard, Dock and Pen.
I chose this one for 3 real reasons, and 1 lame reason
Real reasons: 1)I like the option for the digitizer pen 2)It seems like it can take more of a beating than other tablets(i can be a clutz) and 3)I like the keyboard folio option(not for every day use)
Lame reason: 1) it matches all my ThinkPad paraphernalia(Notebook, Mouse, Keyboard, Cases...etc)
LOL I like your reasons. I never wanted the folio and still don't. If I had other Lenovo gear that would be a +1 here. I love the stylus but now others are coming so I don't have to put up with poor components and an OS overlay that requires root to function properly. My GPS has never functioned. If it wasn't for rooting and wanting to keep it, I'd send it in for warranty repair. Buttons have failed and micro USBs have too.
Getting a new tab soon. Already have a View and it has zero issue like my TPT. Looking for maybe the Galaxy Note 10.1.
Well, yeah, the pen is a dominating reason. At the same time, we bought it back in September, when this was the only tablet with a pen. There weren't even any that were rumored to come out except the hypothetical Galaxy Note at that point, which I learnt later at that time was only 5 inches. Now there's the Galaxy Note 10.1 that's coming out and a few more, so yeah, I'd look at the others before landing on the TPT. The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet was almost a test, and though they did pretty well, I feel I might just wait a little bit longer.
I got my 32gb tablet for $350 for buy.com 8 months ago. I don't see why this price is so great?
I agree. Not great prices.
provantage.com
has...
16GB for 318
32GB for 340
Is that provantage price with the pen?
eBay has some solid refurb deals, but it's hard to tell with many of them if the pen is included or not. I just a 16gb refurb for $299 with just the pen and and charger.

Hello everybody,
Recently i have been looking at a load of tablets as I am interested in buying one soon. Now I al interested in the iPad 2, the Sony tablet s and the Asus transformer + WiFi.
I want to have a tablet to watch movies, play games, read books and make notes. And I just like the look and specs of this tablet as far as I could have seen and read.
I would like to know from you guys if there are things you dislike about the device or totally love. I have used the Sony tablet s and the ipad 2 but can't get my hands on this device. So Any feedback from you guys is welcome.
Regards

I love it. But only thing that i dislike is the Frame around the glass. It makes some sound if you "bend" it and stuff.. But nothing else to complain and the Prize $ is just great..
Also one problem is light bleed that i only have in 1 corner and its small and i really cant see it but in dark and when im watching movie but i doesnt bother me anymore at all : P
And eaven tf101 only has 2 cores its amazing fast afted ICS : P
-This is just My opinion.....
I bought myself a Transformer Prime for Christmas. Returned it after the GPS and wifi problems, bought a Lenovo K1 at a deal. It was slow and buggy and Lenovo's arrogance was overwhelming, with support totally lacking, so I returned it. I bought a barely used mint Transformer TF101 32GB with keyboard, locally for $325. It has no light bleed or any other problems and I love it!
The Prime was my biggest disappointment. But the original Transformer has restored my faith in Asus!
Wow.. my story is pretty much exactly the same as thomslik's.. except I payed $350.. grrr..
Anyway, I'm loving my TF101 and, for me, the ICS update has been problem free.
I would NOT recommend getting the iPad 2, it's much more limited than Android tablets.. especially with the keyboard dock on the Transformer.
The transformer is great not a problem out of it. I was gonna get the ipad 3rd generation but I don't want a big ipod that's all it is.
I like it. Good screen and fast. I wouldn't pay more then 300 for it at this point tho.
Best device i have ever brought myself so far i have a tiny bit of light bleed but everything else is perfect.
Its fast and does all the things you want to use it for also very very customisable i use a custom launcher themes apps system and kernel all to my preference

It still sells just about everywhere for 399 brand new. Why do you feel the price isn't justified now? Any reason besides having been out for a while? I think for what it offers compared to other tabs it has held its value quite well.

Because it will become outdated pretty soon. It's almost at the end of the one year cycle.
If anyone, living in the USA, buys a TF101 for $399 at this point, they have some terrible shopping skills. Refurbs are at $300 or lower. Even brand new 16GB ones are around $350.
I got mine "Used - Like new" from Amazon for like $240 a couple months ago.

I bought mine on the 17th from Fry's as they price matched an online site that was selling it for $349 w/ free shipping. I will say this site (bhphotovideo.com) was the only site I could find that was that cheap and not a refurb. Every other one I found short of eBay, who I refuse to use, was right around $399.
And not to split hairs but to that point, $350>$300 which is what I was originally quoting. My point is old or not, if the product still currently sits well compared to what's out now, I think it's worth it.
I'm just trying to determine whether to hold onto mine at this point but that's for another discussion...

And not to split hairs but to that point, $350>$300 which is what I was originally quoting. My point is old or not, if the product still currently sits well compared to what's out now, I think it's worth it.
I'm just trying to determine whether to hold onto mine at this point but that's for another discussion...

So you paid $350 + tax, which is around $380.
Not worth it in my opinion. You probably don't realize it now because you just got it and it feels new to you.

Yeah. My only other option it seemed right now was either a Galaxy Tab or iPad 2 and the latter option is really not a consideration, but it was within the price range.
I'm digging the unit but as you said, it's all new to me. I'd love to see something solid on the near horizon as it might convince me to return this and wait but so far it's all just rumors and speculation.
Acer's quad core tablet is on presale for $449.99
In 2-3 months you will see 7 inch quad cores for $250.
Android 5.0 coming out in Fall.
So it depends on how badly you want a tablet right now.
Thanks everybody, I just ordered the 101 version without 3g, it is 400 euro in holland. But for the same price you get the ipad 2 or the Sony tablet. So I think its worth the price.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA
the iPad 2 is really nice but with the transformer you can install roms like nintendo 64, ps2, etc and play for hours on end. the whole stretch thing is pretty retarded with the iPad 2 and after a while really annoying.
I love both but if I could only have one it'd definitely be the transformer.
