Hello
If I install a stock rom on rooted/sim unlocked phone via gfree, would I lose the sim unlock?
I understand I will get the S-On back, I am more concerned about Sim Unlock.
Thanks.
I believe so. Your flashing a complete stock image, which restores everything to stock. If you do go thought with it, im pretty sure you can call tmobile to get the unlock code.
From my fist, to your face! Enjoy!
If you install a stock ROM on gfree-unlocked phone, you'll remain S-OFF. No amount of flashing will restore S-ON, since gfree modifies the flag itself, which is not rewritten by ROMs. You can lock it back by using gfree, if you want, but - and here's your second answer - SIM will be unlocked forever, no matter what you do. Some people on this forum tested it and arrived to this conclusion.
I am in this situation right now. I have a HTC Panache, which is S-OFF (using JGobeil's method, which I believe you helped devised a lot). I am planning on giving the phone to my girlfriend and get another one, thus transferring my SIM card into the new phone and having her get a new SIM.
Will that be a problem with my rooted phone? Will I be able to keep my phone rooted and have the SIM card installed and working without hiccups?
Thanks!

It's my first post here. Done a lot of reading but still couldn't find the answer to this.
I got a sim locked T-Mobile Wing from T-Mobile. Still waiting for the unlock code. This could take a long time for my case. Should I wait until I get the code and unlock the Wing before flashing ROM??? I am very eager to play with the custom ROM's a lot of people are using.... If I do it now, will it cause problem later when I try to sim unlock???

What problem did you have? I thought if you do Sim Unlock first, there shoudn't be any problem. I am just worried about if I flash the phone first, the unlock code I will get from T-Mobile later might not work. Can anyone comment on this? Thanks.
i sim unlocked then flashed
the unlock code is stored in the phone operating system not on the sim card
but dont worry the phone will always recogize the unlock code every time u flash it. it never changes unless you hack your imei

So I don't have to unlock now and can go ahead to upgrade ROM and then unlock later with the new ROM? Just want to confirm. Thanks.

yes you can flash before sim unlock. I have a wing and its not sim unlocked and I can flash and go back to stock with no problems.

that doesn't make sense.. everytime you flash your flashing a new operating system. theres no way the sim unlock code is part of the operating system.
It Probably Makes More Sense To Me
Basically With The Unlock Code Your Unlocking The Phone Not The Sim Card So It Is Saved To The Phone When You Flash The Phone You Erase Everything On The Phone
This is exactly why I am reluctant to flash it now since I have not unlocked the phone yet.
I know that, with some other phones like motorola, even if you have unlocked the phone, but if you flash with a wrong stock, you can lock it again and it is very difficult to unlock later...
Can anybody else share their experiences about the Wing?
If you follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358225 you can unlock your phone without worrying about the code from T-mo. You will be able to flash any ROM you choose. Just follow it to the letter. Worked great for me.
My main reason to flash was because of all the memory the stock ROM sucked. You'll be amazed by the chefs in the forum.

The unlock is not in the phone's operating system... its in the phone hardware. I think many will get confused if you are telling them its in the OS since you flash the OS when you flash the ROM.
Everyone should know that the IMEI is hardware based like the MAC address of the phone. To change the IMEI would not only break US law's but would void you from unlocking it from a service provider. Flashing a ROM will not change the IMEI.
Ok. So I have a Rogers Dream. I rooted it and flashed to cyan froyo. All was well. Long story short I need to send the phone back to rogers. I tried the first unrooting procedure I found and am stuck now. I tried the Dream/G1 unrooting method. I am now stuck with a T-Mobile G1 bootloader and cannot load any images from here.
I have spent the last 2 days seraching every rogers unrooting thread I could find with no success.
I am looking to get back to the rogers 911 update so I can send the phone back.
I hate to post when i'm sure it has been covered. But any help would be awesome. Any info you need I can provide asap
Sounds like you tried to install a T-Mobile ROM in a Rogers phone. You would have to use a gold card to make that work, but you would be left with a tmo branded phone. Try searching Rogers' site for their latest full ruu, probably the one with the 911 patch.
I have that. But I need to be able to boot up fully to run that. I have the t-mobile bootloader.. and thats it
You will need to reflash the T-Mobile rom with a goldcard until it will boot, root it via telnet after signing into Google (via a wifi hack?) then install 1.33.2003 spl, that will let you use fastboot to install 1.33.2005 and thus the rogers rom.
Hope the defect isn't going to interfere with this..
Ok. Now I just read a procedure on creating a gold card. This requires a running phone? This phone.. does not run. I can get into the bootloader and thats about all.
You can see if you can boot and wipe from recovery. If then android boots you may be able to skip the gold card.
However you are I assume stuck on HBOOT-0.95.0000
If you download the rogers nbh, rename it to DREAIMG.nbh, place it on the root of your SD and try to flash by turning the phone on holding camera, you will likely receive an error (if not it will flash the Rogers rom)
If you get the error you will need to flash rc29 the only DREAIMG.nbh known to work, the problem is its signed for the us T-Mobile region and you have a phone for the rogers Canada region.. the way to skip the region check is you make a goldcard and use that to flash the nbh.
This requires you to know the Cid of an SD card.. and the easiest way to find that is a working android / winmo phone (does not need to be the broken phone, you can make the goldcard on a friends phone and use it in yours). This is because most USB sdcard readers don't provide access to the cid.
With the goldcard you can try to flash rc29 again, hopefully boot android, root it like a T-Mobile phone, reinstall (carefully) dangerspl allowing you to at last safely flash the rogers rom.
Short of time travel and preventing your past self from installing a T-Mobile stock rom on a Rogers phone.. I'm short on alternative ideas.
I am stuck with HBOOT-1.33.0009
The RC29 DREAIMG.nbh wont flash.

That is not the T-Mobile bootloader.. that is an older rogers one (and other HTC branded dreams)
And here is the rogers unroot instructions

And on the topic what isn't working that you are thinking the phone requires to be returned?
that worked! thanks!
Can anyone help me?
Yesterday I installed VISONary R14 and ran Temproot then Permroot. with the view to flashing a ROM today.
After charging the phone today I now have "No SIM card in phone" message. I have changed the contract sim I have to a PAYG and still have the same message.
The phone is locked/Branded to Orange UK and happens with the abouve 2 orange sims.
Has running VISONary caused the problem? Can I revert back to anything?

If anyone can help I would be very grateful
The issue is not caused by Visionary. Please test in some other phone that your SIM card works. Make sure that you put it to your phone carefully, and it goes in the right way.
It might be network lock problem, you could try the SimUnlock feature in my Radio S-OFF tool.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried both sims in other phones and they work ok. Put them in the DHD and I get the error about no sim.
Okay. If you are absolutely sure that you have inserted the SIM into your DHD correctly, the only thing left to try is SimUnlock. If you do not want to do that, you have to send your device to a HTC service center.

Yes its contact side down and cut off to the right. I've just had a look at your SimUnlock and its .exe which I can't run on a mac.
I don't mind doing it but is there a mac alternative?
Cheers
The easiest way is to get a Windows PC. There is no GUI tool for MAC, you will have to use command line.

Thanks, if it does need to go back do you know how to remove the Visonary+ app thats installed?
Use Visionary's unroot option, remove Visionary as you would remove any other app and reboot your phone.
Changing a sim card would most likely not work on the Orange phone as its locked to that network. $20 if u want it unlocked from Orange. Just a bit of side info for you

He said that he tried two Orange SIM cards. And my Radio S-OFF Tool's SimUnlock feature does exactly the same as Orange's 20$ unlock, but for free.

hi, guys. i installed android Desire on my hd2. and i got a tmobile unlock code. i plan to sell it overseas. can it still be unlocked?
here the link to the android that i installed:

Yes you should be able to. Just put a sim card from a carrier other than the one the phone is currently registered to, and you should be prompted for the code. If for some reason you can't unlock it in Android, which I doubt, just do a nandroid backup in CWM, flash any stock WM ROM, put in the new sim card, enter the unlock code, the re-flash MAGLDR and CWM, then restore your backup, and you're unlocked and back to your Android ROM.

hey thanks man. i plan on selling it overseas. so, taking the risk that it might work isnt good enough. i think its best that i sell it dmomestically without the hassle of going through all those steps to get this unlocked overseas. i dont want any problems. but thanks.
Just borrow a friends sim who's on a different network, it will unlock to all networks when you do it, the sim you use doesn't have to be the network it will be used on, just not t mo.

You're welcome
I have a stock myTouch 3G 32B that won't progress past the initial login screen. I have taken pictures of the different screen/areas that I can get to. I have tried multiple SIM cards at no avail. Any help appreciated! Thanks!!
That is not a brick. Not even close to being a brick. Imagine this, you try to turn your phone on and you're greeted with the old familiar splash screen, but it stays like that, nothing happens, you start to worry and decide to boot into recovery, same thing happens, you freak out and try fastboot, same result. That's a brick. That doesn't happen to too many people, but when it does, its effing scary.
Now onto your problem. Are you sure the Sims you tried had working data? Did you try them in another phone to verify?
Thanks tvall ... I guess I should have used a different word that bricked since I know a true brick is completely non functional. This phone however is completely useless at this state though. :-(
As for the SIM cards, they were taken out of my HD2 (running Android), my wifes HD2 (also Android), Samsung Vibrant, and then a dumb phone. All the smart phones have data plans and work when their proper SIM cards are installed.
Well the phone suggested to call customer care, and it is a SMARTphone. Try taking its advice?
What I do when I have major problems is flash a sappimg and start over. (That is also the only times my phone runs stock software. I rooted on day one and flashed cm haven't gone back to stock)
Maybe, if your ok with root, do the goldcard rooting process and see if a custom rom can get data?
The phone was purchased used off craigslist ... wasn't sure if that would come up or matter if customer care was called. The whole point of this is that I was hoping to root and get a custom rom on there (trying to fix up for my niece to use). The problem is though that I don't think that I can root without a goldcard and I can't create a gold card without getting into the settings page and getting info about the phone (right?). If there is a way to do any of this using ADB or any other method I am all ears.
Also you said something about flashing a sappimg and starting over ... can I do this without the phone being rooted? It is 100% stock AFAIK.

I was thinking that the gold card that is used to root the phone would have to be made with that phone as well. So I can use my G1 to make a goldcard that I can use to root this myTouch3G?

Yep. Goldcards are not phone specific
Thanks! I have never seen anything saying that in all of my research. I would have never figured that out on my own. I will create a gold card with my G1 when I get home from work and root that myTouch with it.
Thanks again!
