my phone will not do ANYTHING requiring usb other than charge , my phone charges perfectly either from wall or pc , but will not mount usb, tether, htc sync, etc.
i love music , so i used to always need to mount to add a new album or etc. and since atleast a month ago my phone is extremly picky about mounting usb, if im EVEN LUCKY to get it in a right position for it to mount usb,
just yesterday i was suprised because my 4th time wiggling and flipping , and bending cable finally got my phone to mount and transfer files at a MAX , 2.2 mbps speed, thats half of what it used to give me before the problems happened , i am assuming the problem is my usb (has to be atleast 92% of the cause)
i just want to know if theres a fix , or a legit work around , im okay with wifi mounts , i just need one thats straightforward , and probally has basic file managing .
thanks in advance for any replies

This problem is most likely physical - one of the D+/D- USB data wire pair is disconnected. In this case the phone will still detect VBUS (voltage on the USB) since the power wires aren't disconnected, will use it for charging, but won't be able to establish any kind of USB communication.

If it's indeed a physical problem - you'll need to do both, I'm afraid.
First, you can look inside your microUSB plug and see if the 5 tiny contact strips are visible and not dirty or obstructed by possibly broken piece of plastic ahead of them. If you have a tiny flat screwdriver - you can try to use it to scrub the dirt off the contact strips.
And if everything looks ok there - the problem might be in the soldering of the USB slot to the board, in which case you'll have to disassemble the phone and re-solder the contact pins to the board.

I just tried to plug my phone in today, and activesync does not detect my phone when I plug it in.... Activesync usually works great for me.
So far I have tried:
1. soft reset phone
2. attach wife's phone - still no sync (this leads me to believe it is a problem on the PC - not the phone)
3. remove and re-install activesync on the pc
4. restart the PC
The USB connection is definitely being made - as when I plug the phone into the computer it starts charging the battery..... but no activesync session is initiated, so I can't modify any files on my phone....
any other ideas?
Hmm that is bad... Well what do you use activesync for? Transferring files or for internet sharing?
All I can think of is maybe a virus? Run avast! virus cleaner. It's the stand alone virus cleaner not the actual anti-virus program. It won't install anything on your pc and it's actually one of the best. Just go to Avast.com.
If you use activesync for internet sharing you actually don't need it . I don't use it for internet sharing. You just need the drivers. I use wm5torage to put stuff of my memory card.
Hope something I wrote helped.
Uncheck start>settings>connections>usb to pc.
never mind........ I guess my data cable just went retarded.
I bought a new USB>MiniUSB cable today and activesync loads right up.
strange, since the original cable does not look like it is damaged at all, and can still charge the phone.
Oh well - all's well that ends well. lol.

i bit late to the party,me ,but this is a comon problem in certain devices,so far i changed 4 cables with my hermes.
oh well. good to know anyway.
I work as a manager at a retail store, and found a couple of PSP data cables (the exact same cable that HTC phones use, surprisingly) that were in the back room which clearanced to 10 cents.... I bought them out - so I have a TON of backup cables in case I ever need them. LOL
the problem is not the usb cable per say but the usb hub in the device.
the new htc hub since the Hermes have a low threshold for wear, the pins that is, so when your usb cable gets used for awhile it wears out a bit also, this gets to a certain stage the the pins no longer touch each other therefore this problem occurs .
i have noticed that my wife 3 year old wizard has a standard usb plug and we never had any problem with any cables, even using the cables that do not work in the hemes that started showing that problem after 6 months of usage.
yeah - well maybe I'll be lucky and the cables I bought (from the PSP) don't have this wear and tear problem
Hello everyone, I have a couple of questions to ask all of you great phone gurus
**If this is the wrong forum for this sort of thread, I apologize in advance**
Basically I have ruined the USB connection on my Touch Cruise. I am wanting to know if there is any way I can access my files on the phone by having it connected to my wireless network at home (ie a program or something I can run on my PC.) Reason I ask is I am trying to edit the HTC weather Plugin to show my location (Lebanon, OH, USA) and it is quite hard/impossible to do using the phone alone.
Second question is, is it possible to replace a damaged USB connector? I know it is probably ruined but I figure it might be worth a try. I had attempted to hook up my front USB header on my motherboard, but plugged them in backwards. I managed to salvage the phone by removing the actual USB piece from the phone and pulling the wires out. Luckily I am still able to use the phone (nothing else besides the USB connector is messed up) by purchasing an external battery charger + battery.
I know these are probably both a shot in the dark but any help anyone could provide would be GREATLY appreciated.
You can sync via bluetooth if you have it on your computer, or wifi search in google for that (ex: http://wifi.aximsite.com/sync.html)
I tought replace it will be very hard .
just out of curiosity could you please give us some screenshots as i'm having a real hard time understanding what you did and how it looks now? ^^
using bluetooth will help and maybe a card reader + microSD might speed things up. find a good file manager for WinMO
i doubt that there is any way to acces phones files through wireles so bluetooth is the only wireless (and supported) way
I don't have a camera currently but just look at your USB connection on your phone then imagine that there is absolutely nothing in it. It is just an empty 'rectangle'. No wires or the little horizontal piece that normally sits in there. Just an empty 'rectangle.'
Thanks for the replies. I am trying the wireless sync now.
Thanks a bunch
I don't know if this is known already, but I thought I'd share.
I recently (rather stupidly) bought the wrong type of micro-USB cable, the one with the completely rectangular profile on the micro end. Not wanting to throw it away, I decided to file the corners down so it would fit.
I confirmed the pin-outs were the same, at the site below
http://www.leadsdirect.co.uk/technical/usbwiring.html
The only difference being that there was an identifying pin that was either unconnected, or connected to ground.
When I plugged the cable in, it automatically took me to Navipanel!! I was going to use it in the car anyway, so all in all, very useful!!
ALSO
Just discovered it does not appear to allow data transfer, as the phone does not show up in Windows when connected up with this cable.
I can confirm that if you connect a 'Motorola Mini-USB to Micro USB convertor' to the socket then you will also get the NaviPanel. Not sure if it is a good thing though because it annoys the hell out of me, not being able to access my Emails etc very easily. Of course I would not be driving at the same time as playing with the phone anyway.
Same happens when you just plug-in in the hd2 a microusb-to-female-usb adaptor (ment for nokia n85?) which i had bought to test (without success) some usb-host drivers mentioned somewhere in this forum.
I can add that it is possible to disable navipanel autostart (i did it but don't recall now exactly were among settings) and after that (obviously in my case using an additional usb/microusb adapter) the connection is fully functional as an usual cable.

I have the same motorola conventor and the same problem. I just tried other charger and navipanel doesn't start.
so, if i read you all correctly, to activate navipanel electronically, ground pin 4 (not usually used)?
navipanel blues
does anyone know how to completely cauterise navipanel...? when using my hd2 as a usb drive the lead (as supplied with the phone!) makes the unit think its in the car.... zzz and vice versa
I have an htc hd2 I wanna amplifer my wici signal, anybody know is it possible?I bought a wireless usb adaptor for my laptop it is call Gsky 500mw.it is able to get 10 times mor signal and stronger than normaly. Can i do something els with my htc?
Thanks a lot!
good idea, but the current amps use to much power for it to work for long periods, wifi kanes the battery anyways and adding an amp to it would just kill it an hour ot two.
but...
you can make sure that your using the full power of builtin wifi by making sure that it isnt set to battery use over speed
my tg01, and my old diamond, i had the option to change the power of wifi for better battery times versus faster transmission and connectivity.
have a mooch around if you havent already done this, its on the powersave app normally. or performance?
or...
you could make an external antennae of sorts, it might work, but getting like 2 feet of copper wire and twisting it so it looks like a rectangle and affixing this on the back of your phone somehow, the phones wifi might gain more amptitude if can piggyback on something....or it might restrict your wifi usage somehow? i dont know,
have fun
No any plug for antenna at Back of my phone. It has only 1 micro usb 1 for the head set.I dont care if its eat my battery so fast I'm not gonna use my internet for long. And I dont care if a nedd to plug 2-3 feet cable.Because I wanna reach a wifi ruoter what is maybe far away from me.Thanks a lot!
no there wont be an antenna plug, youll have to take the back off, and remove the metal plate to access the htc wifi adapter, and solder or otherwise hold an antenna cable to that.
by the way, this WILL VOID your waranty. also its not the easiest task going...
kk most phones dont have wifi ant. plugs as they are not needed
but...
i remember seeing on ebay some time ago these little clear stickers with some copper wire etched into it to boost the 2g/3g signal, these were not directly affixed to the phones arieal in anyway, they literally were stickers you put under the battery ( so they are close to the phones builtin radio) and they boosted signal that way.
maybe a similar thing would work? if two wires are close enough but not touching they can both share the same signal ( try this with speaker cable,it works)
it works because all cables emit a sort of interference (apart from the noise free type) and if these interferences mix you get mixed results but maybe it could enhance your signal.
we need some experiments on this i think, anyone up for it?
So it is not gonna work,if I get an USB wireless adapter with antenna and plug it in my micro usb?And if I don't need it,I just unplug it.Or any other chance to get a strong wifi signal to my phone. What if I get a portable wifi router and I amplifer signal with this.I hope you understand what I'm wanna say.Or maybe it is not possible?I bought a yagi antenna and I plug it to my 500mw Gsky usb wireless adapter and the wifi signal is more stronger. How can I get my phone work with this?
you cant use a usb wifi adapter as your phone has no drivers, and never will do.
as for using an amplifier attatched to your router, or a seperate one, this will work reasonibly well.
You can look at http://www.cell-phone-accessories.com/htc-hd2-antennabooster-magnetmount.html
I don't know if it works fine. Only I' ve seen this site.
Also:
With my LEO I obtain the max WiFi connectivity removing the back metallic cover and taking the phone with my hand at the bottom half of it.
Hello,
I don't know if there is still some people here but I expose my problem.
As I have a Desire HD for more than a year, I wanted to give my magic to my sister but I also wanted to flash a new rom because the old CM did her time on this phone.
The problem is that the wifi and the usb are broken as I can't even charge the battery simply by plugging the usb cable. And with no electricity, there will be no file transfer.
Also, il work on a computer with no sdcard slot.
So there are 2 possibilities :
- I download everything with 3G (this should work with apps, but not for a rom)
- Repair the usb chip on the cellphone, and if possible the wi-fi too.
The second is my favorite, but is anyone know where to start this manipulation ?
(I have some skills in electronic and soldering).
Thanks for future replies
