Nook Color has 0B of 0B free... - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, so I was able to root the Nook Color today with success, from FW 1.2 (which it had when I took it out of the box).
I then edited the 'build.prop' file, and then after rebooting the device, it was stuck in an endless boot cycle.
So after many attempts, I was finally able to get back to stock firmware 1.0.1.
Everything seems to be fine, but now my problem is that the Nook Color keeps saying it has 0.00B free of 0.00B. So, I can't download books to it, or anything else.
Is there any way to fix this problem? Should I try updating back to 1.2 since that's what it came with out of the box? If so, how do I upgrade from 1.0.1 to 1.2?

same problem

You need to go to 1.2. Look at the restoring to stock section of the guide in my sig and get the 1.2 flashable zip.

This happened to me as well. When you're on 1.2 or above, the phyical internal partition (the 8gb drive) is altered. Therefore going to 1.0.1 doesn't recognize the partition created in the higher firmware. Upgrading to 1.2 or 1.3 will get the 1gb partition/available space back.

@koopakid08
Thanks a lot for that 1.2 stock firmware file!
Guide worked for me!
@Candurin
Thanks for the info/clarification. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who had this problem.
Huge thanks to both you guys. You just saved me from wasting $200 on a brick!
You guys also saved my Mom's Christmas present this year!

[Q] Update 1.2 with stock image but CWR installed

Hello,
First time posting, so thanks for the great forum. Found lots of info, that usually take care of my questions, but not this time.
A bit of info before my questions:
I have a dual-boot setup, stock not rooted image on emmc and uSD with CM7 RC4. The CWR was installed unintentionally after I was playing with he ROM Manager. Thought that CWR would be installed in uSD but it got installed on emmc. After an update I am now on CWR 3.0.2.8. I only go into the stock B&N image if I remove my uSD card.
I would like to update to 1.2 (I do use the stock reader app, mostly for magazines) but as far as I understood from other threads, this is only possible if CWR is not installed.
1 - Is it only possible to use the official update to 1.2 if CWR is not installed?
2 - Is there any way that I can remove the CWR without having to erase and register my nook again? I'm out of the USA, so it may be tricky, or it may not work at all.
I did saw several ways of removing CWR and going back to stock, but I just want to remove CWR and not touch the stock image.
Thanks!
i believe there's a mod to the 1.2 update in the development section that allows you to load 1.2 stock via CWR.
I did the same thing as you! Can't get it off.
Try this thread here in the nc development section:
[UPDATE ZIP] Stock 1.2 update.zip flashable from CWM

Thanks for the info. I had already spotted it, but I was wondering about removing the CWR and using the official update as well as boot recovery. There is a mention in that thread "Assuming you haven't fooked up any paritioning by using the "dual-boot" stuff ...", which I am not sure if I didn't.
I also spotted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690 part2 "File to remove CWR and restore stock recovery (2):"
But I simple can't figure out if after removing CWR I have to do the 8 failed boots or if it simply removes CWR and the nook is back at default. Anybody knows?
Edit: Can I just use the boot.img from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919353 and adb?

you didnt, in fact, you dont really have dual boot, that is when you have both roms installed in your main memory, so there is a partition trick you need to do.
CWR is nice, keep it , i would go for than method with the CWR, but i'm waiting for the "autonootered" version
Thanks for the reply don_ernesto. I have been reading a lot these couple of days and now I understand what a true dual boot is (with the changes in partitions, etc).
I figured out two ways of getting 1.2 onboard.
1 - Use the image for CWR
2 - Use the image from point 3 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690 to remove CWR and install 1.2 as if it was an untouched nook!
But first I'll just back up all of my nook for good measure!

[Q] Error formatting /data!

Self-dangerous noob here. NC 1.2, theoretically returned to stock
History:
Got NC 1.2
Rooted w/ManualNooter 4.5.25. Everything seemed to go great. So...
Downloaded, backed up, and flashed CM7 in ROM Manager
Wouldn't boot...hung on n COLOR screen
Same results w/ Phirerom (CM7 based - doh)
Able to restore MN4.5.25 from CWM - BUT noticed "Error formatting /data!" during nandroid restore. Didn't seem to matter...restore successful
Get "Error formatting /data!" no matter what
Able to boot into CM7 from SD, but it has "problems". For instance, there are no "back" or "return" softkeys. So there is no way to navigate around any app! Only the hard "n" home key works
Reflashed stock 1.2
Seemed to work, began to ask me to reregister. BUT, it won't display the keyboard, so I'm stuck at the "Login with your existing B&N...." screen! Keyboard flashes up and then immediately disappears!
As an noob, it occurs to me that all my problems are related to my inability to format the /data partition (if it's even called a partition).
Can any of you awesome people help me? And, if I'm in the wrong forum, any directions would also help. Thanks.
Same error here
If anyone can help with this it would be much appreciated.
have you tried removing CWR then do the 8-boot reset?
No, every time I've done it, it boots into CWR. Maybe REMOVING it will help. lol. Sorry to be so inept. I can flash the 1.2 stock that will remove CWR. Is that the way to do it?
Worked like a charm
Removing CWR and 8-boot-interrupts did the trick. I'm now back to a fully stock NC 1.2.0. Ready to roll up my sleeves and re-brick!
This is the most amazing community. The closest thing I have to any technical knowledge is speaking a little Klingon. VERY little. But, I have learned more here by reading these threads for a couple hours...OK, several hours... than my wife has learned in a dozen trips to the apple store. I feel more empowered every day. You are all great. Can't thank you enough.
Goldie, I wasted a bunch of time on this last night. I'm guessing you have a new nook. If you do, slap cwr on your SD (3.0.2.8 or something) and look for the thread that tells you how to repartition your nook. Follow instructions to set it to the old way. After that run manualroot zip through cwr. Reboot to cwr and wipe data, system, cache. Finally install your rom of choice from your SD card through cwr. That's what I did to finally get it to work.
Thanks. I'll give this a try. As you probably guessed, I DO have a new NC, and while I was able to get it back to 100% stock, and easily reregister it, I had the same results. The ONLY way I can get CM7 running is off the SD card. So, I'll try the partitioning trick. Why do I get the feeling this is going to work? Unfortunately, I'm not on dev's time... I'm at work by 7:30am EDT, but in bed pretty early. I REALLY appreciate the response. Later this week I'll install SDK, and all my tools at home so I'll be able to stay up all night with you awesome folks.
still looking for the thread on re-partitioning. I found the thread on restoring, but I get the error every time I try to reformat the /data.
No luck. I can restore to stock 1.2, reregister, and MN 4.5.25, all easily. BUT, once I flash CM7 (or Phiremod 6.3, etc.) it hangs at the "n C O L O R" screen (C O L O R flashing at various speeds just to fool you into thinking it's actually going to work). Here's what I've noticed...after flashing CM7, the ADOBE screen no longer flashes up at boot. Once it fails to boot the Adobe software, it won't boot at all. So, for now, I guess I'm running CM off my SD unless anyone can suggest anything.
Goldie u have to repartition to get it working. Ill go look for the thread. Also maybe you should try out the cm7 mod over the phiremod Tom. I'm on phiremod now and the lag is killing me
Wow that was painful to find. Needs a sticky.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094371
Edit: I take that back about the lag, set your cpu to 1200 in the ROM and change yourgovernator to interactive for an amazingly smooth experience
I've been going nuts trying to figure this out. I too ran into the "error format /data" message but I powered through it only to end up at at the Android logo--nothing. Out of frustration, I returned to CWR and wiped everything--like on my Evo (did not go through to mounts option). That seemed to go through /data but I don't know the difference between a wipe and a format (I'm looking...). Still got bootloops. I tried to return to stock but the 8 interrupts wouldn't work.
Pressing START and N worked though and that got through to CM7 and it's working great now but I'm afraid to do anything else because I still get the "error formatting /data" message.
I've heard horror stories (bricking beyond repair--if that's possible) of users repartitioning their drives though so... I hope there's another solution out there.
I love this community!!

Thanks a million!! Everything perfect!! I just can't say enough about this awesome community, all the amazing devs.
heh you're more than welcome . i hope this helps anyone else that stumbles on your thread as well. Ive been having fun with my nook but i think its time to trade it out for something a little bigger. Maybe ill just wait till att gets its flavor of gs2 idk. So many choices out there!
thanks guys!
i just had the same problem and falshes all kinds
of zips until i found this post.now i've launched cm with status bar
really really thanks
this worked great for me too! i had a nookcolor bought in december and it had a messed up chargerand 6 really bright white spots that were really noticiable. went to b&n store and the guy just gave me a new one. it came with 1.2 and i had the cwm sd from the old one. so tried restoring my cm7 backup from the old one and error formatting data came up. flashed this zip, and im wondering, since these are too different nookcolors, should i restore the cm7 backup or flash it brand new. because i had a ton of stuff on the old one and i dont want to lose it. so can i ust do advanced restore and restore data, or can i restore the whole thing or just flash and slowly get my stuff back?
update cwm
ok not sure if you fixed it or not yet, but i had the same problem for awhile too until i found a post
your probably using cwm 3.0.0.28 just updated it to 3.2.0.1

i have tried 3.2.0.1 but get same error message
3.2.0.1 on the bootable card or already on the eMMC? It has to be on the bootable card.
Thanks
It works after getting my nook color around 2pm today and taking it home. I was working on this thing all day I tried several ways and this one worked!!! Having issues with wifi that's all

[Q] manual nooter problem, question about flashing to stock

Hi, first post. I've searched for similar threads/questions but haven't found any.
I ran manual nooter 4.5.6 on my nook running 1.2.0 and was quite happy with it. But so last night I powered the Nook Color down and when I powered it up this morning it gets as far as the "nook color" colorized screen animation and then boot loops. I've seen other folks have this problem (posted in the dev forum in the manual nooter 1.2.0 thread) but no solution offered other than "restore to stock and re-root it".
While that's do-able, I was wondering what data gets wiped out in the 2nd part of the flashing to stock process. Is it possible to just do the first part (8 boots, restore to stock 1.2.0) and keep the data (books and music that I have on the onboard memory)? or is the data-wipe an integral part of restore to stock? does the userdata get wiped during the software update part anyway?
I don't care so much about having to reinstall apps and configuration etc etc (although if there's a way to get it booting without flashing to stock and I just haven't seen it, please let me know), but the data's a pain right now...
Help or pointers would be appreciated
You probably have the issue where Flash was auto upgraded, a know problem.
I had to start over, making sure Flash wasn't set to auto update, and proceed from there.
Not sure if this will help or not but when I plug my nook into my computer I actually get 2 icons come up in my file manager program, one for the sdcard and one for the emmc.
I would think that you could copy the files you need from the emmc to your computer, then after you reload and reroot you could copy them back to their respective folders on the emmc.
Not ideal, but better than nothing.

[Q] Please help a noob in need!

Hi everyone! Please help me! I've spent most of the last 18 hours on this, rested, and have come back hoping to start today off positively.
I have a new "blue dot" nook with the new partitioning scheme. Not realizing that, I tried to install CM7 internally using a youtube video from huskermania (sorry, XDAforums will not let me link). All went fine, I assume, except for an error in Clockwork that read: Error: can't format /data" error. I believe, after researching, this is a result of the change in partitioning.
Frustrated that I had bricked my nook, and not really wanting to run an internal anyways so I can revert back to regular ROM if I want, I tried to unroot using directions from huskermania again. I really thought it had worked, but it is now stuck on the rainbow Nook Color screen, which will disappear and come back repeatedly.
Please help. My goal is to reinstall the original ROM, then try to install another using SD, but that's not my main priority right now.
HURRAY!!!!
Ok, success!!!! I cannot believe something finally worked. The 8 step reboot did not work, but using power, home, and +volume did.
I am saving the SD card I used to reboot this. Any thoughts on the best way to root a new "blue dot" nook using external so I don ever have this issue again? I know I need to change the partitioning, but I'm still not sure how, even after reading what Maurice Mongeon has to say in his post "how to repartition a blue dot nook color." Thoughts?
How exactly did you finally get it to work? I've done the exact same thing and I'm not sure what to do next. I have a refurbed NC that came with 1.2 installed and I rooted it with manualnooter and immediately flashed CM7.02 stable from CWM 3.0.2.8. It had all kinds of force close issues so I tried to restore to stock but keep getting stuck on the boot animation. I re-flashed CM7 and it still works but I still have all kinds of force close issues. When I try to format data in CWM it says can't format /data! I'm kind of at a loss right now...
UPDATE: Got it working. I had been using the wrong cwm...

[Q] I'm a mess, CM7 back to stock

Hi. Ok so I rooted my NC to CM7 sometime last year, and now with all the blah about markets not working and having to do more about it, not to mention the PIA it is to get books on, I decided to put it back to stock. Which apparently was a big mistake.
First I mounted an older version of clockwork to the SD card, then when I figured that out (having format data error) I did the newer 3.2.x.x one. So that went good, I went through the steps and reformated data and system, and then went to upload the zip from the choose zip part, but it says there are no files. So I backed out, took out the SD and put it in my computer(Macbook pro) to try to put it in again but it wont show up at all? I tried looking in Disk Utility too and its not there. Any ideas where my card is? What do I do next?? I have nook complete restore 1.0.1, 1.0.0 and nook color update 1.4.1 on my desktop, I thought I had 1.0.1 on the SD card.
I've been reading and googling all over, I can't find what could've made my SD card disappear?
Thanks, I know you must get these all the time and I really appreciate your help-
Ok I didn't do anything, but it just started up to the little silver N and is now sitting there? Is that a good thing?
Don't panic. The NC is very hard to permanently brick. From what you've described, it sounds like your SD card may have gone bad or been corrupted. I'd just try again.
The 'n' logo is a good thing, but if it hangs there, be sure you've followed all the steps carefully. That's typically a sign that /data wasn't formatted, though from your description, you got that step.
Sorry I can't offer up anything more specific. Do be aware that you can restore back to 1.3 if you don't want to go back to 1.01
It happened to me and what I did is plugged my sdcard into my android phone and format it and start over again.
I did that couple time during first attempt to install CM7 on my nook
Hope this helps ! Good luck!
Try plug it into different computer(s) along with using usb-adapter.
The Eausus Partition program works well to wipe/format cards too...
