Should I buy a HD2? - HD2 General

At the moment I'm working and sweating with a LG P970 Optimus Black and I'm getting tired of the working/internet speed. So I looked around and I decided to buy a HD2. It looks good and on E-Bay its not very expensive. Is the HD2 really better/faster than the P970?
I've flashed Cyanogenmod 7.1 SelfKANG on the P970 ( Android 2.3.7 ) and I'm thinking of flashing the same / similar Cyanogenmod Version on the HD2. Is this faster on the HD2 ?
Fast means for me that the keyboard is reacting quickly to my "typing-speed" ( ~8 letters á second ) and that images are "flowing" on the display. Another thing is the "surfing-speed"; even if I'm surfing with Wireless LAN the sites are loading incredible slowly and the phone stucks every time if it loads a site that is a little more complex. Zooming in and out is not possible without stucking...
So, is the HD2 better than the P970 Optimus Black?
BTW. Sorry for my english

I have never owned an LG phone but my HD2 is 2years old now and running miui it is incredibly quick the dev support is endless and its the best HTC I have owned for build quality. So imo yes I would buy one.

YES...
anyone on xda can tell u just how good and versatile a device it is... if u have a problem with it im willing to bet good money that there is already a fix to solve it...
plus hd2 gets every port of android tweaked for it... hmmm feel iv said too much... shouldda stopped at YES...

but...
Mm ok... but there is one thing that gives me a bad feeling - some people reporting that they bricked their HD2 and it wont even turn on so they had to send it to a JTag repair... with ( for my budget ) high costs :/
This is the advantage of the P970 I think - the phone is in a Bootloop; repaired in 5 minutes, the phone wont even boot ( didn't show the bootanimation ); repaired in 10 minutes... and there are few more issues that can be fixed without any costs or else ( except hardware damage )
I can't find anything for "unbricking" a HD2 yet - only that JTag method... no SmartFlash or R&D Test Tool like for the P970...
I would like to flash Android , like I said , and this is not possible without flashing/deleting/replacing the Bootloader :/ ... so ... is it "easy" to brick the HD2 ?

I always booted via SD which in my case was just updating the radio and installing HSPL. I have booted a massive amount of roms this way and had no issue. Plus if you have HSPL you can boot from a gold card I believe!?! But its been a while!!

I've heard about booting Android from SD-Card but is this as fast as booting/executing it from the internal ROM ?

Depends on what you boot if its ASOP It boots quicker than sense. I've found ASOP runs alot quicker than sense as well.

Bought my HD2 in July and... Well... it’s incredible! The community here behind the phone and the amount of dedicated developers is phenomenal! The fact that it can run multiple OS's just puts the icing on the cake! defiantly buy one

I was about to open exact the same thread, "should I buy a HD2?"
If I buy a new one it's still quite expensive, but as I can see there is massiv development going on. My current device is a Motorola Defy and it seems to be great to have an unlocked bootloader on the HTC HD2
Are you still able to use the hardware-buttons for answering/rejecting a call? On MIUI/CM and Windows Phone 7?
I guess multibooting Windows7 and MIUI would be my choice.
edit: also, is batterylife ok on those custom roms? somewhat like one day would be enough.

I am using MIUI (this one, stable version) and:
- yes, the hardware buttons work great both for anwering/rejecting calls and for activacting the device from sleep (all of them!)
- battery life is decent (with moderate use you can make 2 full days... but the huge screen drains a lot)... If you want a comparison, better than Mileston and worse than Nexus S.

HTC HD2 is the best phone you can get, if you can second hand for less that $150. Hell, I have Ice Cream Sandwich on it before even the Samsung Galaxy S2 has had its official upgrade,

So I've been using my hd2 for about 2 months now and I hate windows so I've been trying out all the android builds which I love. I'm currently using darkstone froyostone w/o sense and before this I was running his other build froyohd2..and since I'm running chuckydroidrom I don't even see windows anymore. But today I went into tmobile and I saw the vibrant and its absolutely beautiul.. very fast and android is native. So I need some input.. what do you guys think? Any pros and cons for both phones any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

I have both and constantly find myself switching up.i like the vibrant for the screen clarity but the I like the hd2 for the screen size but I think once android is completely stable for the hd2 and is able to be flashed on nand it will be my daily phone and I'll probably wind up selling the vibrant.so I say keep the hd2 and wait just a little longer for a good android build

I had my HD2 for about two weeks. I tried a few android builds, and they mostly worked, but there were little quirks about them that bugged me. One didnt have bluetooth, one only seemed to work with a specific radio, etc...
I really liked the big screen of the HD2, and the metal back made it feel really sturdy, but I native android beat out that.
I like my vibrant. The back feels a little slick, but its also lighter. While the screen on the HD2 was bigger, I dont miss it much.
I'm sure as time goes on android for the HD2 will get better, so it's really a matter of if you want to wait or not.
Damn idk ill prolly just wait it out and see how far android could go on my hd2

Try the new FroyoStone Android build with Sense, it's amazing and the most stable build as of yet. I use it as my dailey OS and it works great =D
yeah im running froyostone with sense but using launcherpro with beautiful widgets.. its running great except for the fact that u cant touch on the screen freezes and i get ocassional dark blank screens
Wait it out with the HD2.
If you really want to abandon the HD2, rumors speculate an HTC Android phone equipped with a dual-core processor heading to T-Mobile in Q4. If anything, wait for that, rather than getting the Galaxy S [now].

It is a nice phone i just dont like samsung software...also the camera does not have flash...and as we all know the screen is bigger on the hd2...but the hummingbird processor that samsung has is quick then the hd2's snapdragon...it all depends on what you like. Also you have to give the devs a little more time with android on hd 2...they are almost there the hd2 will be worth it in the long run until somwthing much better will come out in a couple of months...

Absolutely lovin' it!!

I've been amazed in general regarding the various rooting, kernels, ROMs etc for Android however i would much rather have a secondary phone precisely for the sole reason of mucking around with the software
I may get a second phone to learn about it because i reckon it would be something cool to learn... I may even use that HTC Kitchen thingy on the forum
It is amazing, coming my self from a sgs where i needed to flash in order to get froyo and to get proper lag fix coming to the dhd is a nice breath of fresh air!
ATM i don't feel the need of flashing roms unless there was a good compelling reason, all the bugs that I've read here , i simply don't have.
I however love launcher pro so using that instrad of sense ui, also just managed to unlock my device which is great too.
Can't beat custom roms and kernels...I'm getting..

Got a few questions

Im curious as to the performance of NAND on the HTC HD2 . Can you play games such as the regular angry birds ? Does it have troubles with animations ? Im currently on a Sprint TP2 running Android (NAND) and i like it a lot . with the exception of the week processor compared to that of the HD2 . Also , im having troubles keeping WiFi on during phone sleep even with the Sleep policy set to "Never" under advanced WiFi settings . Does that setting work for you guys running NAND android on the HD2 ? I'm debating if i want to buy the HD2 and fully run android or if i want to just go ahead and buy a Samsung Galaxy S despite its a lot more than HD2 (on ebay) my most likely choice is buying a broke one and fixing it .
Thanks for your time guys !
HTC hd2 will blow you away. Its awesome honestly. Everything works very quickly and there are tons of options for hd2.

From my readings and from the YouTube videos thats what seems to be true ! but i always love to hear it direct from an end-user experience . Are there any troubles with stability in the Android NAND builds ? plus is Overclocking possible with the NAND builds ? thanks for the response !
Some roms are more stable than others. That's the case with every phone. I have been an android nand user for almost a year and its awesome. We also had one of the first ice ports and this phone is right at two years old! Overclocking is possible but I've never tried it. My phone is fast enough for me

If you use a rom such as Hyperdroid with the HD2, like said above, you will be blown away. The HD2 is fast, stable, and pretty much all working feature-wise.
The HD2 is a phone that I would still recommend to people, as it still keeps up with other competing phones.
Hope I could be of help.

Is this true !? wouldnt expect that !! plus i think 5MP camera is good enough lol . video is something a lot of people hardly use on their cell phones , no matter the quality , the only way to get a good video is by using optical zoom . and phones wont have that due to keeping it slim

Comparing quality of Galaxy with quality of Leo confrims that. Not to mention posibilty to install even xp on leo .
A recommended rom that is highly efficient in my opinion is Hyperdroid. I've been using this rom for over a year now and it has never failed me before. It is fast, stable, and efficient.
If your interested, I'll post a direct link to the rom here.

I also advise to use Hyperdroid ROM which is excellent in stability, speed and battery life. I use it since three monts and I am very satisfied with it. The only minus point by this rom is its font size selection and theme. But you change the dpi font size and have theme choser for that.

THANKS for your input im pretty convinced just by looking at the thread ! It looks wicked cant wait to get a job and buy my HD2 now xD i'll most likely flash a bunch of builds just to test drive them . but Hyperdroid will be my first to set a baseline for the rest . thanks again guys !

You want everything working properly? Closest you'll get is a DesHD Froyo ROM (obviously not MCCM's SD one but basically a NAND version) or maybe a Sense 2.1 ROM (I think everything works on those)
To me that's like asking where is the best place to get stabbed at
Why not try CM7? It's fast as hell! (Dorimanx' Latest)
Are sense ROMs really that bad on the HD2 then? I thought they were bad on the Wildfire! I gotta say that I quite like sense but after looking around these ROMs CM9 is just too tempting
They work, but not fast enough for me though
You should definitely try AOKP ICS(CM9), they fixed the hardware acceleration!
That should make a BIG difference in speed.

ROM Request Thread

Hi guys i am making a rom request thread for wildfire. I searched for this type of thread but it was not present for our wildfire buzz so i am making one. The purpose of this thread is allow users have their favourite rom on our small but powerful beast.
So feel free to request a rom.
Keep In Mind That
- Gingerbread/CM7 based Roms will be fully stable
- Ice cream sandwich/CM9 based roms will have some issues (NO youtube HQ video, No native video recording, No panorama camera)
- Jellybean/CM10 based roms can now be ported. They will have no native camera and camcorder and other minor bugs. Dont complain if they are laggy.
- Dont ask for roms already present for wildfire
- For best compatiblity look for a rom designed for a phone with below specs
- QVGA (240 x 320) resolution
- Arm v6
- LDPI ( Low pixel density)
- Roms from high end phones can also be ported to wildfire but they need alot of resizing and fixing so expect bugs.
List of phones that are best to port roms to wildfire
- samsung galaxy mini
- samsung galaxy fit
- lg optimus me
- htc tatoo
- sony ericsson xperia x10 mini
- sony ericsson xperia x10 mini pro (not sure about this because it has a hardware qwerty keyboard)
Searching for more phones
Thanks, now lets get started

Yes!
I just asked myself why someone not make a rom that is ugly ugly ugly (ok not really) But actually not much good looking but speedy
anyway...
I dont like roms that are based on stable cm 7.2 coz of sound bug that obviously no one experiencing except me, i dont even try those rom coz i know how its gonna be
My mainly problem with roms is that ppl try to make it good looking and not so fast. I like very simple, not fully minimal look but close to it.
It can look like that word with four letters, first is "S" and last is "T" you know... if its fast and stable, im satisfied
And my problem also is that im a bit crazy, i dont like waiting when launching apps lol which is very slow on wildfire.
So, rom i would like to see is, based on CM7 2013 nightly, Have included app2sd script, so no need for link2sd, and also can have as optional (or not ) script or how you call it... ram compache... SWAP partition on SD card like i dont know 500 or 250mb... (Actually it is my latest discovery... ok ill explain. I read some things about swap, and that other things, how someone use it others dont, there is no difference etc. So i decided to try it with "ROEHSOFT RAM-EXPANDER - ROOT" app. I gave about 450MB swap space, and it works. I launch application once and its there, much faster than launching it again and again because android kills it when im on low ram, of course. I heard that my SD card will not last much, i dont care SD cards are cheap these days. Still testing will open thread latter, maybe)
I forgot what i wanted to say actually...

I agree with you. I also like it simple and fast.
How about checking in other forums about such kind of rom ( which is fast ) and see if it can be ported to wildfire. E.g xperia mini x10 roms can easily be ported. ( correct me if i am wrong )
@wasim can u write down here a list of phones that have kind of have same specs as wildfire. E.g xperia mini x 10 and galaxy fit ( correct me if i'm wrong )

look to port jb roms,we first need to have a working jb base rom.And we dont have any,so they can't be ported.
We are having various ics roms just because there's a source built cm9 by ErwinP.
so unless we have a a working base,we cant port roms.

Actually we have a jb rom compiled from source but it was last updated in july 2012. I think the developer stopped working on it.
Btw i am impressed by galaxy mini community. They have a fully working jb/CM10 rom but we dont even have fully stable cm9 rom.

Now you are being hard on our devs.
Remember mate, that we don't have a gpu and mini has it !
If we had a gpu,we would have got many more things than we have now.And cm9 working almost perfectly on our gpu less device is nothing less than a miracle !

I think wildfire was made mainly for camera use etc. Not for gaming etc though
Anyways it has a fantastic camera . 5MP CAMERA, ways better than other smartphones. Also don't forget that its a budget phone.
