Well
ihave the EEE PAD tf101
i want to buy a keyboard
but today my dad offered me to buy the TF201 prime
i really dont know what to do
cause i want a laptop
but the prime is a gaming and video machine
what to do?
Take the "Prime TF201" and buy the new keyboard !!
Take the prime for sure...
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Dude, if your dad offers to buy you the prime, get the prime + keyboard. x_X, it's not just a gaming device, it's the tf101 upgraded..
forgot to mention
its 50\50
lol
here the prime costs around 700 dollars
means i pay 350
and the keyboard costs around 230 (cheap eh? haha)
and here i pay everything
edit:i wont be able to get the prime keyboard for a long time
what i think i would do is to buy the keyboard
and in the summer break ill sell the TF101 and buy the prime
what do you think bout that?
This makes no sense, what's the problem? Unless you wanted your dad to buy you a laptop then everything seems fine to me. Just sell the tf101 get the dock for the prone and call it a day. Wish I had someone buying me stuff...you bet I wouldn't be on here complaining about it... Merry Christmas.

well he doesnt want to buy me the keyboard
he thinks its a waste
also my family kinda lacking money right now
so we cannot afford this right now
230$ is alot of money here
ihave around 300$
ithink ill go for the keyboard
So he'll pay 350 for the prime but not 230 for the dock... Tbh you would get more benefit from the tf1 with dock than a tf2 without... That is if you are looking for something beyond a toy. The dock really makes this tab practical for school and business use. I use it for school and business daily, without the dock it would almost be useless to me.
Tell you're dad it's not a waste, and you are trying to save him money and make your existing tablet more functional. It's the logical choice considering your needs and your financial situation... If he can't see that then you're stuck and may be the least of your problems. Good luck bud, either way it looks like you will get something.

However, if you can sell off your tf101 for a decent price, I would say to get the tf201..
But, you said that this money isn't unnecessary fling, so I think I'd have to ask if you really need the dock at the moment. I like my dock because I can charge my tablet without connecting it to the wall, I have an actual keyboard for typing some sketches of ideas, I have a keyboard to type up random posts on threads in different forums, etc. but I don't need the keyboard for classes (because I'm a physics major, so typing notes wouldn't give me the full range of mathematical equations and ****, so a stylus has more productivity there).
So... ask yourself, do you?
well actually
the TF for me is videos gaming and surfing the web
for the guys that have it
can i surf facebook forums and stuff with the keyboard with no problems?
when you connect to keyboard the battery stays on 100% all the time until the dock battery runs out and then the battery starts to drop
or its just makes it better
it supports 3g dongle?
thanks for answering
It enhances just about everything you would need a physical keyboard to use. It will continually trickle charge the tablet until the dock reaches zero...keeping the tablet at 100%.
If you do even a little typing then the keyboard is clutch. Also if you watch a lot of movies it's great for the added battery life and that it doubles as a stand.
certain 3g dongles do work. I believe you need to root and flash a custom ROM though,I know revolver has a 3g dongle driver pack that you need to install.
Like I have said before, the keyboard is worth the cost (to me at least) personally, the only time my tab isn't docked is when its mounted in my truck... Other than that its usually docked.
I think some games allow you to use the keyboard as an input method as well, like wasd for movement and such, but I haven't looked in to that.
Merry Christmas

Pretty simple, I take a Lot of my classes online because my business requires me to travel frequently. I access all my class forums on the tab, as well as all the chat rooms. I take notes and write papers using polaris office and submit them... again on the tab. I take all my exams on the tablet as well.
My primary form of communication for my business is email, so I do all my email from my tab or my infuse. All my project work orders come in pdf form,I use ezpdf to read and add annotations. I use intuit mobile for writing/reviewing proposals and invoices.
Doing all that with out the keyboard dock would be torture,I wouldn't even bother with the tablet and would still be using my laptop. Its amazing how much more functional the dock makes the tablet.
If you can't find a use for it then either you don't need it or you don't have any imagination or ingenuity.

You should ask in the revolver thread. Also the 3g addon is a big pile of bugs, unfortunately .

Hey guys, just wanted to know if anyone else is using the tablet for school. I see tons of kids with ipads and wanted to know if xoom will be able to function well for notes etc. will microsoft live apps work for onenote?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'm a student as well and plan to use the Xoom as my little studying tool. Right now, the iPad is definitely the best tablet for a student. It has some absolutely stunning applications, especially for history and chemistry. So far, I've seen nothing come even remotely close on android as far as quality goes, but I'm sure things will improve. As far as note taking applications goes, I'm not too sure what's available yet that's been optimized for tablets, but I'll find out on Thursday!
Not really. I personally hate using my laptop for taking notes, and I laugh at the kids in my lectures who pull out an ipad and start hammering away at the screen to write down. Frankly it's too slow.
It will be great for somethings, but to replace laptop like functionality in my opinion would be a no go

If you had a dock and a wireless bluetooth keyboard, that would be phenomenal in class. Only downside is that it would attract attention like you're a damn celebrity or something.
I'll be using it for school. Word is that it will come with quickoffice which will do any Microsoft Office thing you would need it for. It can open, save, and create new documents. Goodbye netbook

Depending on the classroom you might not exactly have room for that as some people can hardly put their laptops on the desk .
It won't be for everyone, someone people will love it for note taking, I for one still prefer hand writing my notes

Geez, you might as well get a netbook then =\
yep. Tablet+keyboard rocks. With quickoffice you can do almost anything needed in common use. I think there is onenote and other cool apps in the market. I personally use it in school, the only problem is that my school policy doesnt support non windows devices(which is stupid) and i have no internet.
G-Tablet works great so far.
Hope it helped.

Netbooks are like poweless laptops. It is better to have a great device that can be both, a netbook and an entretainment system(With great software). XD

True, but a tablet is much more versatile than a netbook. If the Xoom was $600 it'd be the perfect purchase, but $800 is cutting it a little close, especially after taxes. I plan on returning and rebuying the Wifi version when it comes out.
I personally plan on using this tablet at school, but not as a laptop replacement. There is now way I could possibly type all of my bio notes without a keyboard and I don't have room to drag around my bluetooth keyboard. I will just type them in my laptop and then they will sync with Evernote onto my Xoom. I orderd a capacitive stylus the other day... I am hoping in can use it for drawing quick diagrams.
Lawl, you buy a tablet, then buy a bluetooth keyboard. You might as well buy a mouse after too.

Lol. I'm putting the Xoom on my own plan in my name. My phone line is still under my dad's, he gets 25% off accessories, so I'll buy the accessories with his plan at the same time :S
yep, but you cant deattach the screen of a laptop and use it as a tablet when you like it, thing you can do it with a tablet, a good portafolio case and a wireless mouse.
Im thinking with the onenote sync, I will be able to use it with some type of keyboard with a dock attached but that folds easily. Im sure they'll make one if one isn't mad yet.

I see the ridiculousness, but it's not quite comparable. As someone pointed out above, you can't take the keyboard off of your netbook, the battery life is worse, you can't put it in your lap in bed to watch a movie or read because you have to worry about blocking fans and overheating, you can't carry and use a netbook in a portfolio and read it like a book, etc.

I want to be able to hold my notes like I can with paper, but not waste my ink/paper + keep the benefits of electronic documents. Also, I like having backups of everything. Using Evernote means my notes are more protected than if they were just in one or two locations. This is how I imagine it: Laptops/Desktops = creating content; Tablets = content consumption
Alright im thinking of buying my wife a Iconia cause i hate to get her a iPad cause after going from iphone to my atrix i now belive iOS is crap. A few questions i got is 1. Does it have market support? 2. Does it have a unlocked bootloader 3. Is there root options or anything of that nature. Is there a better product out there for the money any insight will be greatly appreciated thank you
Yes to pretty much everything you just asked. All Honeycomb tabs right now are pretty unlocked and completely easy to root.

I haven't changed the rom on my a500, nor do I plan to but so far I love my tablet. The market works just fine although you may have to find alternatives for some Apps like Facebook. The annoying thing to me about the a500 is that sometimes the screen turns on by itself when not powered off and it kills the battery quickly. Also I don't like the short length of the charger cable. The use of a usb keyboard is great but I haven't tested out a mouse yet.
Like I said before, I love it (4.5 out of 5).

Full market support, full connectivity (SD, USB, HDMI), can be rooted as easily as downloading an app and clicking once with your pinky. For the money, there's not a tablet put that comes close. Transformer needs $150.00 docking station for connectivity, GTab has no connectivity, Thrive is as big and heavy as your house, xoom has no connectivity either.
They can be had for under $400.00!
Edit: more cooked ROMs than you can shake your d!k at!

Sorry, I was curious about your comment. I'm planning on borrowing my stepfather's Iconia to play around with it, which is why I'm on the Acer forum, but when you say that the Gtablet (which I own) has no connectivity, what are you referring to? Everything you have in parenthesis exists on the Gtab, well, HDMI via the $42 dock. We have standard USB and mini USB, a micro SD slot and as mentioned, HDMI from the dock...
just curious, thanks!
EDIT: Don't take this as indication that I think that the Gtab is superior in any way. In fact, I'll never recommend one to anybody due to the poor customer support.

I don't think you have to worry about accessing the market with any of the newer tablets. That would appear to have been a problem with the older ones. My first Android device was the Archos 5 IT(which is still going strong with my sister) and you had to do a market hack to access the real market on it. My brother's horrible Gentouch78(seriously made the A5IT seem wonderful) also has to be hacked to access the market which is something I've still not gotten around to doing. Hmmm, compared to those 2 tablets, I love the Iconia despite my wifi issues.
Market.google market. Amazon app store. Gameloft.nook app and books.
Do a web search you will find alot of alternative solutions to not only Google's market.but of course they are not all equal.
What is ios again.oops its a caged child should be illegal
So I'm guessing there are quite a few people with ICS now (awesome) but what I'm wondering is what is everyone doing with their TF101s and TF101Gs now that they couldn't do with HC?

Selling it. trully something I couldn't done with HC as I was wating for ICS release to check it out by myself before I sell it.
Use a web browser without wanting to punch my tablet for loading pages so slowly.
Chrome is pretty epic and browsing is a hell of a lot smoother. I really like the landscape layout of chrome and how similar it is to the desktop version.

Need to buy a notebook for studying, the tablet was just a waste of time.
Sending it back to Asus on an RMA. I'm one of the poor fools that had their tablet go into an endless loop when I tried to bring it back from sleep after the ICS update. When I get it back I'm going to ebay it and try another brand. Two RMAs within a 6 month period (one for a dead power button, now this) has convinced me to wait for the iPad 3. I'm sure it's just the luck of the draw but every Apple product I have ever purchased has worked perfectly - the build quality of the Transformer, at least in my case, has soured me on messing with Asus any more.
finally able to actually use the browser, and now i have chrome as a bonus.
honestly, i love it even more with a couple minor exceptions. still can't play high profile 720p mkvs, and none of my custom icon/shortcut apps are working properly.
You actually thought your transformer was going to replace a laptop? I find it ironic how there were all these people kicking & screaming like spoiled little brats wanting ICS. Now it seems that every post someone is complaining about ICS.
Is ICS prefect probably not, will it ever be? Hell no, what is perfect in this world.
I think there are a couple if big improvements. File Explorer is much improved. Also now there is a task manager widget built in that can be put on your desktop.
Now I still can't do a search on XDA with the stock browser.

No, not for a second, just thought it would be nice to have something different as my studying device, found out tablets are just toys to show high technology (my thought) and where their actually none usefull at all.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of computer users could easily replace their desktop or laptop with a tablet. Unless you are using some specialized, high-end software, tablets can perform most tasks.
It's been a year since I've needed my laptop and I can use my tablets for both work and play.

so i've had the lapdock for a while, great accessory for the atrix.
i've recently been wanting to get a tablet. so i figure if i get the tablet, then i really wouldn't have any use for the lapdock. i've been looking into getting a nook color or something that simple. i wouldn't use the tablet for much, just like i currently don't use the lapdock for much. just internet browsing, videos, and typing up document on occasion.
so, i ask you all, would you prefer a tablet... or the lapdock for our phones?
thanks, all.
Very good question. I guess it would depend on the person and situations they would need either device for. I ended up getting a tablet (ipad2). Is the lap dock smooth and lag free? Never used one.

I'm not going to have the Atrix for as long as I would have the iPad. Me and my wife use it everyday. Everything we would do on the laptop we do on the ipad, minus word documents and typing because its just silly typing papers on the iPad. So Netflix, web browsing, catching up on Conan, Amazon, just normal stuff. And depending on the tablet, it would see more software support/ be supported for longer.

Well, I do use my lapdock for "real" work. Various development in mainly C, some assembly, C# and C++.
Most is simply vpn'd back to the office. 80% of my actual work is text based development, and that I do with a terminal ssh'd home.
For the small amount of stuff that requires me to use a windoes system, I can RDE back in. Not great, but not nearly as bad as one might suspect.
Occasionally I actually do local coding. But in this case I am really just editing and using gcc as a syntax checker.
To be honest, the biggest issue I have is the STUPID KEYBOARD LAYOUT (I hope moto is reading). There was plenty of room to have a standard'iish layout.
If one does not expect to do a lot of typing though, I would think a "paddock" would be a good idea for Moto.
to be honest, I've got lapdock and I have a XOOM2 for a test.
Iwont chane my Lapdock to any talbet. why?
after mod I have a fully Ubuntu, so why I have to change? so, if you wanna to get fully useable OS than I recommend to you Lapdock. If you wanna to see how it works, please visit my youtube profile
Lapdock is way too slow for anything.
Maybe after the ICS update it might be worth a look, however I would go for a tablet with a stand such as the archos g9 and a bt keyboard for productivity.
The lapdock is a great piece of hardware that's simply no utilized well enough to be worth it.
I agree completely with alexsupreme. Lapdock is just too slow to be usable. Mine was new from AT&T in December and I bet I've used it all of 2 hours. My tablet on the other hand has many, many hours of use logged since Christmas.
$53 for the lapdock at the time sounded good, but in retrospect that was still more than it's worth.

Ouch! That's like an icey-hot cold pack: so cold, and yet it burns.
I bought an iconia a500, and it has almost completely displaced my laptop. Only serious typing, graphics editing are still done on my laptop (and the pr0ns work better when I don't have to hold the screen up). I was looking at getting a lapdock next time they were on sale, but your scathing analysis is probably correct.
Actually, the new webtop 3.0 shows quite a bit of promise.
Sure it's not touch operational but you get a smooth speedy interface and access to tablet apps and browser.
The lapdock might actually be useful, especially with the variety of office apps and nice tablet games and emulators that might just be more playable with a keyboard and a mouse
OK, so I know these are 2 different form factor's but..... I have a tfp and a n7 and for some reason my n7 is soooo much better at browsing than the prime. It's so quick I just don't want to mess with the prime. They are both running cm10 so I'm a bit confused. What are your opinions or thoughts?
If you already have both and aren't needing to choose between them, why is there a vs?
Surely you are in the best position to decide that?
Speaking personally, I wouldn't go for a transformer at all. I would go for a cheaper tablet and have a small laptop/netbook and use them for different purposes.
If I had the transformer I know I would end up taking the keyboard/dock everywhere with me just in case I need/want it, therefore I may as well have a laptop.

Well perhaps not versus but like you say I always want to take the dock and all.... then its so bulky I'm like I might as have well brought the i7 laptop. Just curious as to how many people are going for a smaller tab versus a large one.
are you using the same browser on both devices and are they both running jellybean?
Same for me have both and barely touch the prime since i got my N7. Other than comic books and magazines I use N7. Although I do read both on the N7 when I'm not home since I take it with me everywhere. 7 inch tablet is so much more convenient. And at $250 I'm not scared of it breaking or losing it like I am with my $650 prime + dock.

Yea, Same.... Not sure why it seems to load faster in the n7.

Try a quick search for IO bottleneck over in the prime forums.
I own both also. What you're experiencing is normal. The Prime is garbage. We got a lemon.

Honestly, other than the dock on the prime(which makes it better for school), the n7 is better, and you can just buy a keyboard and mouse(?) for the n7 and it's basically a prime for a lot less money.

Well I wouldn't say lemon.... I think the prime is the only full tab I would buy at the moment..... But after playing with the n7 it's really great...well awesome for £150
