The title doesn't say it all.....at all. What the heck is this thread about? You can root without losing your data, but unlocking the bootloader will wipe everything. Is that the information you were looking for?

Is this because I rooted the phone with motochopper? I dont recall seeing it prior to root. Csn someone confirm?

This has been adressed many times, but you are correct. Rooting the device has changed it to an unlock icon

And if you go to "settings > about device > status" it will display custom on device status on the bottom

Using version 2.6.0.0 on both my nexus 4 & nexus 7....when I look to restore from a backup they are not seen or recognized. As if I never made them...weird.
