Hey Guys,
I'm kinda afraid that I might break my Webtop's dock or my Atrix while docking/undocking it, plus I would like to keep my phone on the table & not on the dock... So I was wondering if there were Micro-HDMI extension cables, like a:
Micro-HDMI Female to Micro-HDMI Male Cable
&
Micro-USB Female to Micro-USB Male Cable
Thanks...
I also, I need these cables
somebody know where I can buy or make these cables ,,please
dealextreme
your best bet will be deal extreme. I got a micro hdmi female to hdmi female coupler from there. Couldn't find it anywhere else actually.

I cannot find a combo for the usb
I find it really funny that a thread opened up the same day I had this idea, though there haven't been any new posts since I last checked. I would really like to see something like this, it would be much easier than taking out my atrix out of my otterbox case each time I want to use the webtop.
A while ago I read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376679
and the part mentioned:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/hdmi-male-to-micro-hdmi-female-adapter-66079
if coupled with a hdmi female to female piece and the hdmi cable that came with the phone would cover the hdmi part of the proposed extender cable.
I'm having some trouble with finding a good cable with a micro usb female end though
I was thinking... If we took this, ripped it appart and soldered the micro female part to the micro male part on this. Wouldn't it work? Same concept for the micro usb. Plus I looked up mods for the Webdock, and the dock on the back can be taken apart to reveal two separate connectors without ruining anything important...
This guy modded his Webdock to work with the Photon. So I was thinking of just taking it apart like he did in the pictures, and using it like that. Or kinda mod the dock to make it wider so I can use my Atrix with my tpu case...

I actually followed that and started to take apart my webtop. It's really easy to do so, but the cables are pretty well stuck in their slot, even after taking off the metal bracket thing. Besides, I'm to afraid to heavily modify the device, it's a little too fragile for my tastes. I was thinking of extending the cables out to allow me to attach the atrix in the otterbox, but it would be too risky for me, and it would probably be very flimsy. I'm going to continue to look for cables/adapters to suit my need
micro hdmi male to micro hdmi female
hey guys this is my first post but i found this item and it works on the atrix lapdock pretty cool piece i would include a link bbut i am new but i found this on all4cellulars website
That's what I've been looking for but I wish it was longer. I would use this so I can use my phone as a webcam on my lapdock. Now for a usb version and this would be complete.

Ok, just ordered these from ebay. Hopefully the HDMI is long enough so I can use my phone as a webcam on my Lapdock. If not, will buy another one.

Just found these extension cables for atrix2 sure they will work for other motorola phones containing a micro hdmi and micro usb. Someone got smart and paired they items on amazon, I sure for a good markup but after all the hassle of trying to find them I'm good with it.

If the usb port on this phone is a non-standard size I am going to be pissed.
I loved that the mt3g uses a regular mini usb plug because pretty much everyone and their mom has something lying around the house that uses that size. That means that wherever I end up I can always find something to plug into and charge my phone.
I've used camera cables, blackberry chargers, even used my buddy's ps3 controller cable to charge my phone directly from the ps3 or the cable box, lol.
Can anyone enlighten me before I buy something from Ebay that I don't need?
of course it does. what even made you think it might not??

Came across a thread in my googling that indicated there were two styles of micro usb. Also a coworker's phone (Captivate) has an equally small but differently shaped port.
I assumed one of the two ports (mine or hers) had to be non-standard, just didn't know which one.
Thanks for answering my question. So this should work just fine?

Yes, I know the difference. I'm verifying that the mt4g uses a standard micro plug, which it sounds like it does. Cool.
REJOICE!
its standard...
I've been charging mine on an old LG charger I had lying around and keep the supplied micro USB cord with my laptop.
side note: I just ordered some Motorola right angle adapters from Amazon for 4 bucks each... I HATE the location of the USB plug; it makes landscape suck and charging at night is a pain logistically.
Need to get some mini-usb to micro-usb adapters to make use of the rest of my crap.

Oooh, right angle adapter is a good idea. Agreed, the charge port location sucks balls, but I assume that was a necessity.
it'll bust the connector pretty easily.
This scares me, as I ordered an HDMI cable from Amazon months ago and immediately broke the connector on the cable upon insertion. I thought the cable was defective; hopefully I didn't break the tablet connector as well.
What is the difference?
I'm going to buy a mini-HDMI converter for my TF101, so what do you mean as a Rigid cable?
Can you post a photo of the connector you used?
Thanks for the warning.
yeah please do more explain about this cuz i got a mini hdmi while ago but haven't tried yet. i was thinking of using it near future....
Just to share my experience, I used this HDMI cable from Amazon. I just checked my mini-HDMI port, and aside from finding some peanut butter in it from my daughter (we have some talking to do!), I don't see any permanent damage due to the cable. I don't have another cable to check with though.
I have a mini-hdmi to full hdmi adapter that I use all the time - I'm gentle with it and have never had an issue. I wonder if there are different parts used across the production life of the transformer and some are, perhaps, more brittle? I hear quite a few people saying about quality issues and I can say that I am impresses with the TF101. Though it's a replacement for an Archos tablet it couldn't be worse than that. They have terrible build quality.
I have a similar looking cable but cant say it has ever caused any problems .......
Maybe be a little less aggressive with the tf lol

I've been using this cable from monoprice and have had no issues at all.
Also when i'm using my cable, i'm usually not moving my tablet around. Just plug it in and set it down.

Such a useless thread! You say something nonsensical and then you disappear. You probably tried to force the cable other way round into your slot, so it broke. Or you were simply too forceful as someone has already said.
Some HDMI cables are poorly made. The metal for the plug sits very shallow in the plastic and even a small amount of pressure will cause it to bend out of the plastic breaking the wiring inside.
I had to find an HDMI cable with a 90 degree bend in the end for a tight fit behind a TV. I had 2 previous cables pop apart simply due to the pressure of hanging out of the back of the TV and curling down towards the Blueray in the cabinet below.
While I do agree the OP should have posted some more information. HDMI cables are easy to break.
O.

But wait, there's a micro hdmi version on the Prime! These connectors lack the depth to establish a good grip before making contact, very easy to screw up. If the barrel was deep enough, you can at least feel that the components are property mated.
I'm using the Mini HDMI connector that came with the Nokia e7 and this works perfectly. No movement or no signs of breaking my HDMI port.

That explains what happened to my cable. I noticed the cable connector was bent so I decided to fix it. I applied some force to make it straight. After that it didn't work. It was very costly bend.
Hey all,
I had to open up my TPT today to resolder/enforce some points (the dreaded broken power button problem) and was a bit surprised how much room there is to work inside the case. Put me in the hardware modding mood. So....
I know of the work people have done to add WAN cards using the mini PCI express slot that is just sitting there, but my data plan sucks to much to use it heavily. What else comes in mini PCI express that we can play around with? Any ideas? I've only used this slot on a laptop once for a cd-rom, and I know of solid state drives in this format. Or how about this :
http://www.techchee.com/2010/05/26/msis-first-external-graphic-card-for-laptops/
Nice miniPCIe -> whatever adapters for more possibilities:
http://www.hwtools.net/
If anything it could be an easy usb port.
edited: second link addition
There's just something about cracking a case and seeing all that virgin territory that makes me want to start adding in and swapping out, too. I really like the idea of an SSD. Or maybe later I will slug in a wwan card and donate more money towards my cell provider's latest hot, expensive vehicle.
miniPCIe SSDs require a special type of miniPCIe slot. You have to have a SATA compatible version for SATA SSDs, PATA for PATA SSDs. I remember from when I was getting a mPCIe SSD for my dell mini 9.
I doubt android has the drivers for it anyways. The WWAN is probably the only option.

I've read that, and I'm not to sure on the rarity of those compatible ports. There weren't any good markings on the board itself. Here's a crop of an image I took for reference:

Unfortunately I already closed it back up, so sometime later I'll separate the board from the case to inspect the back, or fish around the stock kernel to see if it just so happens to support it already (though I'd be amazed if so). For now I'm trying to scavenge anything that I can plug into this port to start testing with. My touchpad didnt have anything to offer, but I think I have a netbook laying around This USB adapter looks really interesting:
http://www.hwtools.net/Adapter/PM3U.html
But last time I ordered from a site like this, the USB drive didnt fit into any of my ports...
After some more reading, it looks like we'll be fine with the port. Getting the drivers is another issue, but there are SSDs for both mSata and mPCIe. There was even work on the joojoo converting a SSD to support the other protocol. Hopefully my scavenging doesn't end up needing this though.
Edit:
I ended up buying this mPCIe to USB/SATA adapter from amazon. Cheap option so I can start messing with available hardware to see what we can get away with. There were cheaper boards available over seas for ~$3, but I'd prefer to pay the extra money to get it delivered in 3-5 days rather than 14-armageddon days. I ordered a 15 cent usb stick from hong kong that never arrived (though a 10 cent one did!).
Also, there is no 5V pin on the pci specifications. So I'm not sure if my previously linked usb adapter had a circuit off of the 3V or 12V or just gave you either of them raw. If someone ends up buying it I'd check it with a multimeter first. I guess you can tell I'm really wary of these companies.

Looking at the pictures for the hwtools adapter, it looks like there is a voltage regulator (circled below) on it that probably brings the 12 volts down to 5. The Amazon adapter probably has something similar but I can't see much in the Amazon pictures.
With the rise in popularity of tablets and smartphones, and the microUSB port as the standard for these devices, could we see some flash drives designed for tablets that make use of the microUSB connector?
I'd love to buy a 64GB flash drive that can plug straight into my Nexus 7 and my smartphone and my friends' devices too.
It'll probably be charged at a premium due to the relatively niche usage, but regular 64GB drives are pretty cheap these days, and they're only going to get cheaper.
Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this? A USB OTG adapter isn't so big or expensive but it'd be great to have a storage device that works natively.
Um....a lot of us do this already. Hell, I watched a movie off of a flash drive today. Hyst get stickmount on a rooted N7. I got the micro usb to female usb on ebay for 99 cents shipped.

I think he meant flash drives with micro usb in it already as in the mount is micro instead of having an adapter
I did a search and this is all I could find:

Not exactly convenient the way it is. They would've been smarter putting the micro USB port on the side, but even then, very pricey.

Definitely a better price, but still inconvenient to have the connector on the end like that. I think that at least for now, it's more convenient to just have a separate cable, not to mention that I don't think I'd trust the reliability of these no-name flash drives in the long run.

Funny that enough of us think alike that threads like this get going...
Problem is, how do you then connect the otg thumb drove to your pc? There would also have to be a backward adapter. Also a switch to un-short the pins that define it as an OTG device.
That's why the cables are an easier way to go for now. ..

Yep, that is it ... finally.
Where did you find it?
I just noticed this on my Note. It's not bad and you can't see it unless you look for it but I'd imagine it would get worse over time.
Here's the problem. The Note moves as you're using it in the dock and the stand is hard plastic so it leaves abrasions.
Here's the fix (from Lowe's)
I use the OEM dock and am not seeing any abrasion, yet, but thanks for the tip.

What is the universal dock capable of other than acting as a stand? How much n where can you buy them from?
I have three of the docks and my Note spends a lot of time in them. That may be why I'm showing more wear than you guys.
I got mine at MacMall for $29.99 all in. Shipping is free and 2-day if you belong to ShopRunner. It's pretty much a stand but it has a 3.5MM out jack to plug speakers in to it. The old docks were made to fit each size tablet and provided better support. The new one also has the Note sitting pretty upright compared to the old one. Demandarin, BB has them in stock in Alexandria for $34.99 if you want to see it first.

got mine at best buy and also use an HDMI plug which i piggy back to the back of this. I pretty much do all of my charging on it and moovie watching as well as listen to my music. It was about $35 at BB. I think the HDMI was about $22 on amazon. I will look for a link.
I went and got a notebook 'skin'.. those lightly adhesive decoration sheets meant to put on the lid of laptops and netbooks and carefully cut it to match the Note and stuck it on there... mainly because I'd heard so much about the Note's back being 'soft'.
So the dock would only scratch the sticky.
My biggest complaint about the dock is that you can't charge AND sync at the same time. It would have been nice to have a USB connection on this too.
Since no ones mentioned hdmi output in any of these docks, im assuming because there is'nt one, but just incase, does anyone know or own a compatible note dock with hdmi output?
HDMI would have to run through the charging port via a dongle so a charging dock won't do it without an additional adapter. Any other type of dock you can just flip the tab over and use the dongle.

and i plug it into the back of the dock above post from Best buy and you can charge while using the HDMI. Infact this dongle will ONLY work if you are charging at the same time....
I've been using the universal dock as a stand for about an hour a day and haven't noticed any scratches, but thanks for posting this! I'll keep an eye on mine. I got the dock at Best Buy (at the time, they were about the only ones locally who had it in stock), because the regular stand I was using didn't accomodate the thin-ness of the Note very well and I was afraid of it landing on the floor one day.

It can be used without the dock since it uses the charging port, as it should.
