The Ultimate Online Kitchen UOT is working fine on many Android devices .
Chances are big it will work on the GNote as well...
I don't own the Note yet. Would somebody test it ? That kitchen is very handy.
If you have a Nandroid backup , you can always restore it in case something goes wrong....:

The Noobs Guide to Root/ROM/Kernel/Theme Your Samsung Galaxy S! - By Totallydubbed

Hey everyone!
I have made video guides for 2.3.4 - Which can be found HERE
However this thread is solely for 2.2.1 & 2.3.3 videos!
So why am I posting?
Well I make videos - I love making videos, and I find personally the best way to understand something is to actually SEE IT for your own eyes - Not read it (I always hated reading)
So this thread is for those that don't like reading and like to get shown how to do things - tutorial or guides in other words.
ALL the videos are made by me
ALSO REMEMBER WHEN THE VIDEOS ARE MADE BY ME, I HAVE INCLUDED ALL THE LINKS TO WHAT I TALK ABOUT IN THE VIDEO DESCRIPTIONS!
Please do check that out!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off videos that work on both 2.2.1 & 2.3.3!
How to root your phone - EASY guide - SuperOneClick Method:
How to Unlock your phone (SIM unlock/not needed for SIM UNLOCKED users, like myself):
How to Disable/or upgrade your Voodoo - May be done in other ROM's and other Recoveries too (CWM in this case running on Voodoo 5.5.1) (In case you had it previously on, and you wanted to flash a NEW ROM or a NEW Kernel that has Voodoo too, VERY IMPORTANT to do, to prevent any conflict with ROM's or KERNELS):
If you are having phone/battery issues - Your Modem might be to blame - How to flash a new modem:
How to apply a bootanimation.zip - thus custom boot animations (Not as easy as the CWM versions)
How to install Swype on your SGS - in case it wasn't there, or have a slimmed down version, such as 10.1 RE and need it:
How to flash kernels very easily - Dark Core 2.5 is demonstrated in this case!
If you had enough or want to send it back in for warranty and want to go back to a STOCK ROM, this video shows how to go back to a 2.2.1 default ROM which in this case is JPU based, then update it to JPY and thus further updating it via Kies to JVO:
How to fix Carrier Issues on the Samsung Galaxy S
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Videos for 2.3.3! ONLY
First the latest JVH based videos!
How to flash the SLIMMED DOWN version of 10.1 - Resurrection - (ODIN flash)
Flashes the base JVH (replacing the old JVH flash) and can be used as a base when applying 10.1
Also about re-partitioning = follow this video !
Here is Ceriko's 10.1 version! It is basically identical to Resurrection, however can be applied via CWM3 - Thus if you are currently on 10.1 and want a slimmer version of 10.1, but do not want to use ODIN - thi is by far the BEST method!
How to flash the NEW RC 10.1 from the Darky team!
How to flash - Ficeto's JVH ROM - ODIN version:
OPTIONAL - Once on 2.3.3 and on Darky's 10.1 you can flash over a hack - which allows you to have the circle battery mod + green settings - YOU MUST be on 10.1 before you do this - although the link will have the full ROM just changes made to it.

and part 2:
How to apply SensatioN by Crysis21:
How to flash - Ceriko's FICIKO JVH ROM (based on Ficeto's ROM, but slimmed down - Thus faster):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now the even older 2.2.1 videos!
How to flash a CUSTOM ROM - ODIN method + CWM (ROM Manager) - Darky's v9.4 in the video (this method can be used for any Darky ROM or any other ROM that uses ODIN) I DO USE 9.4 IN THIS VIDEO, but you may use the SAME method for other versions, such as Darky's 9.5. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO FROYO 2.2/2.2.1. DO NOT use this same method for GINGERBREAD/2.3/2.3.3
How to apply a new theme, here I apply Crysis21's RevolutioN (MAKE SURE THE THEME IS COMPATIBLE - CHECK THE DEV'S THREAD TO BE SURE!) :
How to apply the 2.2.1 fix for Crysis21's RevolusioN theme - For Darky users!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miscellaneous things:
If you are on 2.2.1 and on Hardcore's Speedmod kernel, the best settings by far (also grants you over 1.9k quadrant scores) can be found here (might be slightly dangerous to paly around with these settings, so do so at your OWN risk:

Could you make a guide on how to get rid of Dark voodoo and install the latest Speedmod on to Darky's Rom 9.5?

that would be:
reinstalling Darky's 9.5 through recovery but this time ticking speedmod as kernel instead of dark voodoo
I might switch back to 9.4 and or get speedmod back.
I'm hating dark voodoo...it uses way too much battery.

Is it possible to disable dark voodoo via clockwork recovery, then select speedmod in Darky's app and reinstalling 9.5 with no wipe. Or do you have to do a fresh install?

nop you can't do that
Although you will have to disable the lagfix (as shown in the video if it is enabled) before you install anything over it.
Do you know what version of SpeedMod comes with 9.5? Is it the latest K13D, or an older version?
Edit:
Nevermind you've already answered me, cheers.
Useful information I sent to a youtuber:
Hi there!
Good to hear the gd news (he was having boot loops)
Several things:
-If you see that you are getting quite a lot of battery drain, I suggest changing the modem.
THUS:
the JVE can be changed to another one, like mine JPG and so on:
Here is how to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAg01h5tLV8
Links in description
+
More modems here:
(Enter it, then look under "2. i9000" then modems)
http://perka.zapto.org/
I have tried so far these modems:
-JVE
-JQ1
-JPY
-ZSJPE
-ZSJPG - currently on this one - seems to be working fine.
Modems determine several things:
GPS lock
Battery drain
Call quality and speed of surfing the internet over data network
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: you can also change the kernel for example, but stay on dark core for the time being.
I went from: Voodoo 4.5 to speedmod k13d to Voodoo 5.5.2 to dark core 1.0 to voodoo 5.5.3, back to dark core 1.0 back to k13d then to Damian's GTO
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Themes:
How to apply CWM themes can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpjzUBNYmsg
IF YOU ARE PUTTING THE ONE, I HAVE CRYSIS REVOLUTION DO THIS before flashing it over (because the theme is so big)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEq_9X9yBvs
Just make sure you DO NOT install a GINGERBREAD THEME, as it won't work. youa re on 2.2.1 NOT 2.3
Conclusion:
First: Sort out your battery issues, leave the phone running for several days see how it goes, you should be getting over 10hrs on a single charge, i get over 24hrs
I got:
Voodoo kernels: 8hrs
Dark core: 12hrs
K13D: 28hrs
Damian's: 24hrs + (still testing)
So do this for 3 battery cycles:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-how-to-calibrate-your-battery.321/
then once you find that the kernel is fine with you, move to a theme.
If it isn't then change modem (as explained before)
If modem doesn't work, like you have tried the ones i suggested before + ones that relate to your region, then try a new kernel...that we can talk about later, but you can see which ones i chose.
Once the modem + kernel is fixed then move to a theme
The theme is the last thing you want to be worried about.
Once the theme is sorted you got the best phone out there, currently and can say "LOL AT YOU iFAIL4 user!"
Enjoy
Let me know how u get on.

I'm using Goatrip. Very fast, very stable.
You wont find the answer here, every rom is special and you just need to test and try. By testing you also learn how to safely manage your phone, and this knowlege is must-have i you are planning to use custom roms. Enjoy your testing.
for me!

If you are really interested, search for the thread with a list of roms, then create a poll based on that list...
The best rom is the one that makes your phone look "cooler", adds nice features and got NO BUGS....
One tip for you: When testing custom roms (and kernels) stay on RFS, dont go converting the file system just yet.
The best custom rom / optimized kernel is the one that makes your tel. smooth and responsive WITHOUT the need off LAGFIXES / File system conversions...SPECIALLY on Gingerbread which got a more optimized RFS
For example: Criskelo's Rom

Other than the fact that JPY is still proven to be the fastest 2.2.1 firmware for the SGS.
stock deodexed JVB with tweaks (glow, crt off, tw4.0, cwm, 5-lock, ext menu)
so yeah it's like my own personalized rom

So I did a first time flash to darky's 9.5 the other day and immediatly after applied the voodoo lagfix that came with it... you say converting the file system is bad if playing around with different roms... is there a way for me to convert the file system back to rfs? thanks.
Use either the included voodoo control app or boot to recovery and disable lagfix.
When on darky's though visit darky's site and flash the newer Dark Core kernel here
Personally stay off GB Rom's until a final official bug free base is released by samsung.
If you want to play around a bit more with the look of your phone look at themes's and also alternative launchers (Launcher Pro & ADW Launcher Ex)
I will have to agree with others though, it's down to personal preference, me I always used Doc's Rom Kitchen, then Darky 9.5 came alone and I've tried others including GB and ALWAYS go back to darky's.
i have only used Darky and romkitchen. Both easy to use and clear instructions.

Ok yeah I plan on staying with darky's 9.5 until the Bell GB update comes out. I love it so far. Amazingly fast and stable. Plus my battery life has gone up tenfold.
I just wanted to make sure that I can undo the lagfix easily (with the voodoo control app) when the Bell update comes out.
Cheers!

According to curio, the SGS2 has ext4 and no Rfs, thus lagfixes are unnecessary.

[Q] Dharam's ROM Collection - Should I? - For those who cant post in Dev Section

Hey everyone,
I am planning to develop Custom ROM's as follows:
Stock
Stock Ultimate
Clean
Clean Ultimate
Ultra Clean
Ultra Clean Ultimate
Battery Saver
The features of each ROM version will be decided and then the ROM will be finalized and uploaded.
I am also planning to develop each of the above version for different BASE ROM's like
JPM
JPN
XWJPF
DDJP2
The reason to develop the following ROM's is not to provide final CUSTOM ROM's but Basic Custom ROM's which the users can then customize as per their requirements...
SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT ME TO WORK ON THIS COLLECTION...
NOTE: If there is not much response then I will work on something else other than this...
Dont take it as bad dhram bro...but many of us or atleast me is fed up of custom roms...coz in every rom nothing new...new theme and just new apps that v can download through market too....so its better you work on something else....hope you will take as an advice...;-)

recommend a rom

after becoming fustrated with the lack of a update for north/latin america, ive decided to flash my phone. Im currently on jh2 and its working really well without problems. Ive download jpm to flash but not sure if it will work as its a european rom and also been hearing recently it has a few bugs like the battery showing an incorrect percentage.
So can any1 tell me if it will work/recommend me one that will.
Well i can tell you one thing - you will be getting lots of advises !
However, first you might try the latest Canadian Firmware which was released last week since that seems to be the closest stock ROM you can get for North America
P.S. - You might check THIS THREAD too...

I've installed indroid 4.2 and it's a really nice rom. The only thing until now that's not working is the gps. It takes really long time to get a fix. And when i get a fix, my google navigation crashes. In indroid 3 it was working perfectly.
Thanks for all the responses guys. As this is my first time flashing ill stick with stock. I have the the jpm without bootloader files so ill give it a go.
Btw anyone know if its recommended to remove your sim and sd when flashing or optional.
use stock JPM most of the custom roms are stock modded and nothing special..
Use stock and your own ****ty tweaks which is a lot better !
I recommend cyanogemod....Marcellusbe is working on that. It will be great if he finishes it.
try Destiny Based on JPN, and its fully stable.
I recommand the Kyrillos'ROM 5.5
It's the more stable and battery saver rom i've ever tried !

And yes, cyangenmod when it's finished, big thanks to marcellusbe
sorry for my english.

Even the indroid developers respond very quick and to the point. Rudolf is awesome. @everyone: go for indroid 4.3
Hi
My preference is:
Kyrillos 5.7 JPM-based with Fugumod 2.2 Bleeding Edge kernel OC 1300mHz
Most stable ROM I've used, quick responses and no FC so far (only been using again for 8 days but hey all the others I tried would FC a few times a day). I love it!
Switched to Indroid for a while and it is good but went back to Kyrillos as I prefer it.
Ive finally flashed (jpm). I just couldnt wait anymore. Everthing seems to be working good thus far, Thanks for all the help.
for american roms try stock DTLKDA or rafo's ROM those are the only ones I know for america I am currently on Rafo's Rom and its very stable btw I am new to this forum
I would recommend using team lambent kitchen and creating your own personal rom. I'm using jpq with g3 v1.32 lite for extra stability. G3 has a ram script built into it already so just remember not to install the ram hack performance mod.

Get jpm and customize it according to your needs...
No fc's at all.....most stable

Kernel Related Query

Dear Team ,
I'm A new member out here , I'm using Samsung Galaxy 3 I5801 .
Though I have joined this site long back , but never tried CUSTOM ROMS due to warranty issue.
I have tried Many ROMS out of them I find Kyrillos' ROM v5.7 very fast and easy , but I also got many issues like
when I USE USB tethering my phone automatically shutdown and same for Mobile Ap part and Gps aswell.
So I tried to flash with all version of fugumod and found fugumod 2.2 Non -OC is working fine.
But the some application like Titanium backup are not working properly while un-install and restore of apps ..kind of hangs with animation on.
This issue was not there in 2.4 beta 3 kernel but issue was with 1st above mentioned features.
So can you suggest what can be the issue , or where I have gone wrong.
My phone is having Sdcardspeedfix 2048kb , and also did the advance format via CWR.
Done eveything still some issues are left.
Awaiting response for you Geniuses.
Thanks a lot

Vivek Chamoli
