My DroidX connects with my iPad2 and tethers data.
I do not have a tethering plan though VZW.
This appears to work for me without any application needed, it just works.
Here's the deal, I previously installed PDANet v4.62 on my DroidX a few months ago (maybe close to a year) for USB tethering with my desktop. I stopped using PDANet due to speeds slower than I was willing to deal with, and bit the bullet for in-home internet. Since my desktop didn't have bluetooth, i never got to try that feature with my desktop.
I recently got an iPad2. I hadn't used PDANet in a long time, and decided to see if the bluetooth feature would work with the iPad.
To my surprise, It did!!
Only issue is that while running PDANet v4.62, my DroidX was virtually unusable for anything else. Screen animation was very slow and buggy, opening app drawer took about 3-4 seconds, and actually opeing apps yeilded a 50/50 chance of force close. What's worse is that even after disconnecting on the iPad side, the DroidX stayed unresponsive, and I ended up having to take the battery out to get it back to normal..... BUT.... while running PDANet, even though the phone turned into a drink coaster, the iPad had very usable and consistant internet.
I decided to install the newest version of PDANet, v3.02 and see if the phone was any better using the newer version. It indeed was a little better, but still did not allow for any kind of actual use while connected to the iPad.
Here's the kicker. I just found out that I don't even have to run PDANet for the iPad to tether to the DroidX. All I have to do is connect the two devices through bluetooth, and the iPad then has internet.
To test this, I turned WiFi and bluetooth off on the iPad and then powered down the iPad. I then turned bluetooth off on the DroidX powered it down. I powered both devices back up and connected through bluetooth. I did not run any apps on either device. I checked running apps on the DroidX, to make sure PDANet did not autorun. PDANet was not running. Then I opened Dolphin Browser in the iPad, and BOOM, internet access!
Just thought this was intersting. If this is already a known thing, sorry for the long post and excitement. I thought it was pretty sweet when it worked.

On my droid X my wifi tethering drops often using either wifi for root users or verizons app with the NAI changed (aka not paying for it), Anyone else having this problem. laptop just stops working or netflix streaming stops but device appears to still be connected. Never really used the wifi tethering enough with my other devices in the past (dinc, droid 1, etc) but its annoying now that i have a small laptop and try to use it often. PDAnet works perfect via cable, so maybe its the droid x wifi driver thing?

by drop do you mean the cellular data connection or the wifi connection? one possibility (unlikely) is if you are receiving a lot of texts. I know that on my X when i receive a text the data connection stops while receiving a text. By stops i mean the data arrows are inactive every time i receive a text regardless of what i'm doing with my data. however i doubt this would cause your netflix to stop. do you have certain power settings to change the data state when the screen turns off or something?
Mine does the same thing. I can use it usually anywhere from 2 minutes up to 10-15 mins max. It does this using 3G Mobile Hotspot & Wireless Tether (ad-hoc). In fact I was looking around on Google, and saw a bunch of people with the same issue, ones that were even paying for the tethering option. Mine is so bad that I don't even bother with it anymore.
I'm using the PDAnet USB connection right now, and it's working without issue. I also have great results with Bluetooth DUN, but it 'feels' slightly slower when compared to the USB connection. (which could all be in my mind)
I've had it happen on the stock OTA 2.2, Rubix Blurry .3, and now Rubix Blurry 1.0. I had it happen overclocked @ 1.2, LV 1Ghz, underclocked LV @ .9 and am currently back at stock speed and voltage.
im assuming its moto's hardware then shame with fission i was actually starting to like the phone alot
Before my internet was connected at my home I used my phone as a hot spot and it worked flawlessly. I never had a connection issue except when I would receive phone calls.
yep. mine stops ALOT. ill get lucky and stay connected for a few minutes here and there but it will disconnect non the less. PDA is ok but still.
3g hotspot and wifi tether for root useres works great for me. Both only drop when I receive a call such sucks if you are in the middle of modern warfare match.

Mine is terrible. 2-5 minutes max connection time. I had to switch to usb as well.

Mine did this too,but all my smart phones have. Not just motos. A few wks ago I started using barnacle on my dx and havent had much of of a problem since. Maybe once an hr I have to stop and start tether again. It was acting up yesterday but I figured out battery manager app will kill the connection. Lemme know if it works or it's just a coincidence.

Is anyone successfully using 3g mobile hotspot (hacked) to tether their ps3? Im getting constant 3g drops... i can undestand not being able to game online with this, but even watching netflix or just web browsing is tough. With hotspot not on, my 3g icon never goes away, only when i start using the hotspot. Ive redid the settings through qpst twice so i know theyre right... any suggestions?

Having the same problem trying to share my connection with my 360. I've managed to play cod online without too much too much lag but I do lose connection completely on occasion for no apparent reason. I live less than 2 miles from my tower.

PS3 and Rooted hotspot
You guys are talking about your phone dropping your connection I cant even get mine to connect I use BARNACEL and OPEND GARDEN I even tried using EASY TETHER to my laptop and sharing my wifi with my built in INTEL. How did you guys get connected?
While I haven't done much tethering with the fascinate, I did use the "wifi tether" app on my incredible to share my connection with a PS3 successfully. Also, I seem to remember the built-in tethering working as well (if you're on CM7/MIUI). Actually, I just saw something the other day about needing to do a fix for the stock android tethering to work, so I don't know if that's a good option. Try wifi tether.
Just found an awesome APP in the market called Pdanet Tablet you install it on your phone then on your tablet and use bluetooth to get internet to your tablet via your android phone!!!!
It works pretty well on my Epic to my Transformer!
No Root needed (This will be for those of us who have not hacked our phones to send off Wifi already.)
Not working on my tab :\
Edit: I fixed it. reboot helped.
Awesome find, thanks! It's not quite working consistently for me, but I was hoping the PdaNet dev would make a version just like this. I'm sure he'll get it working reliably soon enough...
tethering off my nexus s, 2.3 hotspot w00t.
Anyone get this to work on Droid X, 2.3?
An update: after I installed this app, my TF Internet connectivity was completely hosed. It might be coincidental, although I doubt it. Essentially, I lost the ability to connect to a number of services via wifi, even after I uninstalled the app. Couldn't connect to Google properties, Tapatalk couldn't connect, etc. Absolutely miserable.
Only way to fix it was to do a factory reset. Multiple reboots and reconfigs of wifi settings did nothing.
Moral: be careful with this app.

I have not installed it yet in my tablet.
But I just read it from the market and they said you should remove the proxy setting after using it, otherwise the internet will not work anymore.
Not sure if they meant you will have to remove the proxy setting everytime you finished using it. That will be a hassle if we need to switch between wifi and BT every time.
works for me bluetooth tethering to my Droid Incredible. Havent tried it longer than 30 mins so I havent experienced any disconnects yet.
You do have to reset the proxy every time you use the app (set it to use it, disable it when your done). If you dont, wifi wont connect anymore (at least for me).
It is a little bit of a hassle, but i can live with it. At least the app gives you a shortcut to quickly change the setting.

Are you getting 4G speed off your Epic? I'm using wifi tether right now and only getting 3G speeds even if 4G is enabled, what kind of speeds are you getting?

That was probably my problem, thanks for pointing it out. Wish I'd seen this before doing the factory reset...

I'm on 3.1 and my phone(Droid 2) runs leaked gingerbread
Not sure why you need an app. I wifi tether with my Nexus S and it works fine. Just have 2gb package from ATT. They don't seem to care.
I got it installed, and everything went smoothly except I have no internet access via browser, or gmail.
Otherwise, this looks like a good app, easy to use.
I tried this PDANet for Tablet. The first beta release was buggy and there was a lot of disconnects with some debugging prompts.
Then I saw they updated it several days ago.
After updating it, its still not a smooth experience.
Got it connected to the phone, launch the browser and I could browse the web, but after 2-3 web pages, then it will stop working.
Email does not seem to work for me. Both GMail client and the native Email client, none works for me. Google Map seems to work.
But again, the connection dropped very frequently.
Hi,
Does anyone know of a solution for the TF101 when the phone you want to tether to is not an android device. I am still using my trusty HTC HD2, and it's WiFi hotspot is "ad hoc" and not seen by the TF, and its bluetooth creates a PAN, and rudely tells me that the TF needs a NAP.
Maybe I can use the "windows mobile version of PdaNet on the phone with the android tablet PdaNet client on the TF??
Wifi hot spot on G2x works perfect and I get 4g speed will post screen shot when I figure out how..
G2x power

Any way with stock ROM??
i tried this last night and couldnt get it to work with my rooted samsung galaxy s, so I just ended up doing the wpa method. Plus Prime 1.5 includes it now
As some of you may know yesterday i went through he!! getting my Razr M rooted. I did it. The reason for the root was the built in tether on the Droid Razr M doesn't work with my Droid tablets both running ICS. So I figured if I root and then get a tether from Google Play then it might work. Problem now is I've downloaded all of them seems like (accept FoxFi it sucks now because it makes you install a screen lock password that can never be removed.) I set these things up start the tether and no device can see them. My laptop, tablet destop all nothing. As if it weren't there. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong if anything. I've used wifi tether on my rooted Droid X and it worked great. Now not so much. There seems to be extra settings like select lan network. The choices are ip addresses. 192.168.1.0/24, 192.168.2.0/24, 192.168.3.0/24, 172.20.21.0/24, 172.20.22.0/24, 172.20.23.0/24, 10.10.1.0/24, 10.10.2.0/24, 10.10.3.0/24 what do they mean? Is this my roadblock? Frustrating as hell. Using 3rd party tethers for rooted devices has always been simple and effective. I used them on my Droid X because the built in version would drop out after 5-15 minutes and I'd have to turn it off and on to get it back. Now I just want to use my tablets. A USB tether would be fine with me if I could find one that worked on my tablet. I used to use PdaNet but it's bundled with FoxFi now. Suggestions?
Broke down installed Pdanet and Foxfi. Installed pdanet for tablets on tablet side. Made a connection to the phone via foxfi. The hope was foxfi would talk to the tablet where the stock tether wouldn't. No dice. Apparently the problem resides in the way to phone negotiates internet traffic. There's a connection there but no communicating is going on. I've spent too much time on this already. I can get us online through the phones via connectifyme installed on my wifes laptop. It seems a router between the phone and the tablet fixes the issue. Problem is there's no way to connect a router to a phone. While not perfect, it's better than nothing. It's just my wife likes being online during trips and that isn't possible now.
Ive been trying to use tethering to my laptop and its to the point of unusable, im getting 56k speedsi if that while a speed test from my phone im getting 15-30 down and 2-10 up.
I'm using wifi hotspot ive tried both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz. I have also tried the USB Tether but my windows 10 doesnt like it for some reason. Im on verizon with a shared Data plan that includes the Hotspot feature. anyone have any ideas
Thanks
No idea, but I've tethered to a Windows 7 laptop. Performance was good, so I never bothered to check the speed.

I am having same issue. I use T-mobile and my OnePlusOne never had this issue. I would go to gym and just turn on my hotspot and watch Netflix without issue in the past. With the MXPE, it's like being on 56k modem. Anyone else having this issue?
I tether almost everyday due to terrible speeds at work. I'm on Verizon unlimited and I do not experience any speed issues. I unlocked but I made no changes for tether as that worked out of the box
I tried Bluetooth tethering which works fine without any issue so it's not exactly a carrier issue. I also verify with t-mobile that they didn't turn of my hotspot feature by accident.
I have the same issue on TMO US. With my Nexus 5, I had fast, dependable tethering. Now with the MXPE my tethering is painfully slow and flaky. Not good at all when on the road.
I'm having the same issue. I just upgraded from a Droid MAXX that had fantastic tethering speeds, and now on my new MXPE it's like being on dialup. Has anyone come up with a solution? I've been loving the phone so far, but tethering is too important to me and I won't be able to keep the phone if I can't figure it out.
I've had this happen twice. A reboot fixed it both times.
I've had this happen more than twice... Hoping the devs can come up with a fix

I'm on VZW ULDP and mine can be painfully slow at times as others have indicated. Usually a reboot will rectify it. But that's not really convenient. I have it set up to start tether automatically when I start my car (bluetooth connection activated via tasker) so I can automatically get traffic to work or home on my z ultra.

I had my first tethering session yesterday. I am on Verizon. A customer I was meeting with needed email access on his Surface Pro and there was no free WiFi where we met. I went in and setup a portable WiFi hotspot. We were both quite impressed with the speed. Keep in mind, this is the only time I have tried it but there were no issues.
hello i just got my moto x pure and i was trying to tether everything seems to be ok until i try use internet in my macbook and is not trasmitting data, same thing happened with nexus 6 i found that when lte it stops transfering data, this is so stupid this is an unlocked phone and it wont let me tether?????? wtf........im using simple mobile unlimited 4g LTE ,i was using an Asus ZenFone 2 and tether without issues, thanks.
This happens almost every time I use the hotspot. Rebooting usually fixes it - temporarily. I'm really hoping that marshmallow has better hotspot performance on the MXP
I get this issue... It's not exactly slow speeds, more like a spotty connection. I use Remote Desktop to do my work, which should still technically run smoothly (albeit slowly) on a 56k connection. I am connecting to a Windows NT server, so I am only using 16-bit graphics quality to reduce the strain on my bandwidth. We didn't even have anything that much faster than T1 at that time, so I can't imagine a Windows NT server running slowly on a modem connection. I noticed a couple things that were strange, so I think there may be settings on my phone causing it but I cannot be sure.
The connection fast when I test the tethering at home, but when I am out the connection constantly drops. I cannot even get a stable connection to my server to do any work. This is not when I am in the car moving from cell tower to cell tower, this is if I am at a place without WiFi, such as my dentist's office.
Chrome gets stuck at "Resolving host..." when trying to visit any websites. This would lead me to believe it is a DNS error, however this does not explain the connection instability with Remote Desktop, and using the address's IP address does not seem to fix this, strangely enough.
I am on a VZW grandfathered unlimited plan, using the TruPure ROM. I did not want to move away from stock, but I did it in an attempt to fix my tethering issues. So far nothing has worked.
