[GUIDE] Running ICS as smoothly as possible - Help needed - Galaxy S II General

Hi
Since KP2 is released with Working modem and calls are working I would appreciate if DEV's possibly could give us a few Tips to run this as smoothly as possible.
KP2 although faster has still a bit of force closes so any help in reducing this will be greatly appreciated.
I'll Try to post a few things I find around the forums to get all in one place.
I9100XXKP2 DOWNLOAD
http://www.sammobile.com/2011/12/18/...r-sgs2-custom/
1. Flashing via ODIN
Code > PDA
Modem > Phone
Is all you need to flash via Odin, rest can be remained untouched
2. Trebuchet Launcher by cyanmod
Is an ICS launcher and a good replacement for TW (will try to find the download link. I found TW force closes a lot on me so this works perfect.
3. Remove the Red Click Highlight Box
Go to Apps > Dev Tools > Development settings > strictmode visual indicator > put it in OFF MODE

Nice thread mate!
Just posted these tips elsewhere:
In order to get the best possible experience with these leaked ROMs you need to:
* Install the Bezke XXKP1/2 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393569) - Flashable through CWM and is pre-rooted and also has the RIL fixes for 3G data
* Change the default keyboard to the standard Android one as soon as you can one to stop the keyboard FC's.
* Install the Trebuchet launcher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=821149&d=1324230099) - and place it in /system/app folder. It should open when you press the home button. Set it as the default launcher.
* Stop the media scanner from running - it's a BIG battery drainer - go to Settings/Applications/Running and stop it there, and also stop the cached process
* Turn off key press sounds and lock screen sounds - having these on causes a continuous partial partial wave lock called 'AudioOut_1' - battery drainer
* Install these Calendar apks (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19448865&postcount=2) in /system/app to get the calendar working. Once in /system/app, click on them both to install them. The Calendar will now work
* If you want to use the Contacts.apk and Phone.apk from the 'vanilla' ICS ROM (instead of the installed TW ones) download those APK's (http://www.multiupload.com/6T0019180O) and put them in /system/app. Don't install the MMS.apk though it will break things!
* Turn off the red border from appearing on some screens by going to the Dev Tools App > Development settings > strictmode visual indicator > put it in OFF MODE - then reboot for this to take effect
Battery life then falls to normal levels. Be aware though that when you connect your phone to your computer to transfer files etc, that a media scan will be run again when you disconnect. You'll have to force stop the media scan again otherwise it will keep running.

This should be a sticky! Is there a way to get the stock ics notification bar?, samsung's bar is horrendous

Nice One @Interfreak some awesome tips there...
I guess I'll leave it in your post as you are second anyway.. will see if we get another leak before christmas which might be better than the KP2

Hi, thanks for this thread, let's hope it build up.
I am using the Sam mobile KP2 leak, flashed using mobile Odin (code and modem) and have removed tw and the hubs. I use Nova launcher and replaced gallery with quikpic .
I am using default hardware acceleration.
I use TouchPal keyboard.
So far, I have not had any issues with media scanner at all.
I get closes occasionally, but they usually start find the second attempt.
I have started playing with the 3g settings in build.prop but have not found any good tweaks yet in there.
Has anyone been able to investigate the governor yet? I can't help feel that it is using a Dev setting that is causing the closes.. .

hey fellas
everything seems to work pretty good now... only thing i noticed so far is i cannot import contacts from my sim card... whats up with that? where are my contacts
thanks in advance

A tip that I just thought of (and enabled):
Download the SlideIT keyboard from the Android market and then get the SlideIT ICS skin in viola - you have a very close approximation of Swype working with your ICS build.

New edition of my mod for Contact.apk and Dial.apk and Mms.apk with standard ics graphics

With these quick fixes in place, is this really workable as a daily? I'm only slightly impatient for ICS love so if there are still a lot of annoying niggles I won't bother...

Was wondering the same thing.. anyone? Is it worth installing or is it better to wait for a more stable build?

Its OK to run as a daily, if you don't mind tinkering with it a fair bit.

Not worth it until ICS is faster/better than 2.3.6, which it currently is not. It's fun to play with though to see what samsung has in store for us for next year!

The room looks nice, here are some problems that I'm experiencing :
- lots of force closes on settings page
- Some random fc with android process acore
- Facebook app doesn't show Any fonts. Really weird this one
- some random crashes with phone and contacts apps (aosp)
One thing that surprised me : battery life is good overall!
Can't wait for devs to tinker with the rom.

Froyo Update Changes Thread - Pros and Cons

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO POST ISSUES WITH THE UPDATE PROCESS, ONLY ISSUES AFTER UPDATING THAT HAVE BEEN CAUSED/FIXED BY THE NEW VERSION.
In an effort to consolidate all the information into one thread, hopefully everyone can just post their own experience with the new Stock Froyo build here after having updated through Kies.
List issues you're experiencing, as well as issues that may have been fixed with this update from the previous version.
Hopefully this will cut back on thread spam and help people decide whether or not they want to try out the stock Froyo 2.2 update!
I'll start it off and say that so far I've heard that the Gallery is working great, but Avatar seems to be having DRM issues. GPS seems to be something where YMMV, some say it's great, some say it's worse.
What have you noticed?
So far all good things.
CONS: missing stock android keyboard, paid apps missing in Market until ROM is recognized.
I installed the GB KB and am good to go as far as that is concerned.
GPS in UVKA 7 still wayyy off for me, definitely a hardware issue.
I have not done any tweaks or change in settings, like a I said wayy off..
Pros (to me at least):
I noticed that the screen auto-rotation is now controllable via the notification/switch pulldown on the home screen.
I don't recall this from before, so please gently correct me if I'm wrong. While entering text, if you hold down on the entry window a blue pointer appears that you can use to place the cursor in the text easier.
Gmail improvements:
- You can reply/forward messages from the top of the email instead of having to scroll all the way to the bottom.
- You can scroll from from email to email by using arrows at the bottom of the window, instead of having to go back into inbox/outbox/etc and selecting the next email
CON: I can't get any data.
Any help?
With regards to the Calendar app, can anyone confirm whether or not you can now actually change the default calendar from My Calendar to Google? Or do you still have to change each new entry to Google when you go to add an entry into the Calendar? That was such a dumb move.... a step backwards from Android via Touch Wiz, heh.
Pros: higher Quadrant score than 2.1
Better UI
Mobile AP
Flash
Camera seems to be better in the dark now
Better battery life
Faster
Cons: No apps in the Market's Download section
Old market
Avatar is not accessible

You are able to set other calendars as the default calendar. I just created a new event and no longer does it default to the lame TouchWiz calendar.
How's the gallery perform? Does it freeze like it did after that small update T-Mobile sent out months ago?

The issue with the gallery lock was always random for me. So far I have had no issues moving in and out of the gallery.
Avatar doesnt launch because the mouny point for the external sd has changes. The drm issue im unsure how to remedy.
Lag is still the same.
Still cant set default home screen.
Changed calendar notifications to white background.
Skype anf yahoo apps should work now.
C2DM works for apps like Trillian (saves a lot of battery)
Will check if the exchange client still rapes battery tomorrow.
Oh, and wifi calling/sms for those of us in very low reception areas.
Data speeds seem incredible. Wifi reception inproved...
Improved txt selection copy and paste. Darker notification bar.

Major problem, the haptic feedback is really really really weak. This happened b4 when i flashed a leaked 2.2 rom and the official one does the same thing -.-, the vibration intensity is at max when ur in the settings and set it to max u get a strong vibration, however when u press any of the 4 bottom buttons and dialer u get really weak vibration, feels like its at the lowest setting. This really annoys me. Does neone know how to fix this or if a rom currently out has alrdy fixed it?

I have had horrible gallery issues, every time I opened it it would freeze. It's great now, but why the hell did they go back to old pics on the top? I want my recent pics on the top.
My gps did not work, but I turned it off, reset it w the gps restore app and now it locks in maps at 30 meters to start instead of 1400 meters. (so, much improved)
Avatar does not work for me, but I updated my co worker's phone, and hers works. wth
I can't look at my display settings, it forces close, I think because I had a bunch of flipfonts installed. I uninstalled them all and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?
ETA: Haptic feedback feels fine to me
I feel the phone is a bit lag too
I want to flash back to JFD and try it from zero again.
BTW I cant root with z4root, how can I root now?
KA6 was the version released through Samsung Kies
Flashed KA7 (screw KA6..). Took awhile to boot up but made it
Gallery seems to be okay, haven't deleted any pics yet. Phone seems as snappy as it did with KA5. Data speed seems the same as well. GPS actually performs better, if not the same as KA5. Just a minute or two to lock on and failry acurate within 30FT (on my way home I was able to lock onto 6-10 sats in a few seconds). Installed GB Keyboard, no issues there. Market udpated itself, apps show up and works just fine.
All in all, works just as good as KA5 did, with maybe some minor improvments.
PS. why is the haptic feedback such a huge issue? OMG MY BUTTONS DON'T VIBRATE WHEN TOUCHED!!

CM7 Fixes, Tweaks, and Work-Arounds!

Code:
I am not a member of the CM team, I am just a CM user trying to help the community.
Official CM7 Wiki can be found here.
Fixes:
Missing Market/Google Apps (or market force closing):
You either forgot to download and flash Gapps, or got the wrong one, or RomManager/Clockwork didn't flash it right. If you used are on nightly 11 or newer or RC2 or newer you will need the latest gapps. They were updated 03/07 (20110307).
Download the CM7/Gingerbread Gapps Universal here and flash in recovery
While in recovery remember to wipe cache/dalvic and Fix Permissions (after flashing while still in AmonRA recovery go to "Other > Fix apk uid mismatches").
GPS:
Firstly, Cyanogen himself knows this is a problem
cyanogen said:
The GPS in the Evo is the buggiest thing I have ever seen. Before 2.3, we were using binary blobs for the GPS driver which contains who-the-hell-knows-what from HTC to fix these things. Now we are using opensource code that is based on Qualcomm reference designs which is pretty close to correct but sometimes the hardware just fails certain calls for no apparent reason (and sometimes they work just fine).
This is a blocker bug for 7.0 final, so it'll get resolved.

There is a "temporary fix" that seems to work for most people. It does not work 100% of the time nor does it work on 100% of phones. (Sorry I couldn't find the original poster of this for credit, if someone knows who discovered this I will give credit where it is due).
Make a Nandroid of your current CM7 setup.
Boot into recovery and perform a full wipe (or use Calkulin Format ALL zip)
Flash any Sense ROM
Open the Market and download MSL Reader, write down MSL.
Open Dialer/Phone and type ##4772579# (##GPSCLRX#)
When it asks you for a password type in your MSL
Reboot phone
BE OUTSIDE
Turn on GPS and open Maps, allow it to fully lock your location (may take a few minutes, do not just wait for initial lock).
Leave GPS on
Turn off phone, reboot into recovery.
Nandroid restore your CM7 backup

Wifi Sleeping
This is yet another tricky issue. For some the "fix" works but others say it does nothing and makes the problem worse. Some say that the problem is the router or security type (WEP theoretically is to blame).
Go to: Menu>Settings>Wireless & networks>Wi-Fi settings>Menu>Advanced>Wi-Fi sleep policy>Never
Facebook Contacts do not sync:
There are two fixes for this:
By phone:Open Facebook app settings> Sync Contacts: pick either sync existing if you only want to match up current contacts or pick sync all if you want to add Facebook friends to your contacts list.
Now open your Contacts app and select a contact to "fix": then hit Menu>Edit Contact>Menu>Join
You will have to do this will all bad contacts.
By computer: Start on your phone and go to Facebook settings and sync contacts as before. Then go to your homescreen>Menu>settings>Accounts and sync and manually sync BOTH Google and Facebook contacts.
Then go to your Gmail on your computer (You can probably do this through your phone's browser but I have not tested it).
Click: Contacts then "More actions \/" then "Find and merge duplicates..." Be sure to double check them!
After that be sure to go back to your phone and manually sync. It may alert you saying that a LOT of contacts have been deleted, just accept that.
Wimax Disconnect Bug:
Problem with wimax/4G disconnecting? Open "Terminal Emulator" and type:
Code:
su <press enter>
killall dhcpcd <press enter>
Swype double tap to change word not working:
This is an issue with the text selection built in to Gingerbread itself. There are two fixes that are essentially the same. First is to single tap the word (placing the cursor in or next to it) then tap the "Swype" key. The second is to upgrade to the latest version of Swype (be sure to uninstall and current version). Instructions are in the next post. The most recent version simply stops trying to change the word on double tap so you will still have to tap the "Swype" key to change the word.
That is all I have for Fixes! Next post will be Tweaks and/or workarounds!
Tweaks to CM7:
4G:
4G/Wimax is a part of the nightlies and is in RC2. Simply update to the latest nightly/RC to enjoy!
HDMI:
#teamwin has this one figured out as well! As of this posting sound through HDMI is still not working but it works through the phone still (or external headset/speakers plugged in the headphone jack). You can download the app through the Market (Click here for market page). This no longer requires an accelerated kernel but it is helpful. If you are running CM7 Nightlies this has been included since Nightly 23. If you are on an older nightly, or RC1 or RC2 you can download it here.
Camera Shutter Sound Removal:
To remove the shutter sound remove or rename (through adb or Root Explorer or other file manager) shutter.ogg in /system/media/audio/ui (if it won't let you remember to mount R/W first!)
Swype:
Go to http://beta.swype.com and register for the beta. When installing a notification will pop up saying that it may interfere with stock beta; do not worry, this is for Sense users and Swype comes in stock Sense now.
Contact searching:
Again there are multiple work arounds:
The simplest is under the stock contacts tab (won't work under phone tab) simply long press Menu. This will bring the keyboard up and you can type to search.
You can also download "Dialer one" or "Dialer2" from the Market.
Visual Voicemail:
There is argument about this fix working.
Nandroid Backup your current CM7 setup. Wipe and flash a stock ROM. Use titanium backup to backup the app and data for VVM. Then Nandroid restore CM7 and restore the app and data for VVM.
The other option is simply to use Google Voice, you do NOT have to get a new number to do this. You can set this up at www.google.com/voice
SD Card speeds:
Transfer speeds are currently very slow with the newest kernel. This is being worked on and should be fixed before CM7 final. Until then you can either boot into recovery and use USB-MS to transfer files or you can download an app called Multi Mount SD-Card from the Market.
Force close ANY app via long-pressing back button:
Go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Development > check "Stop app via long-press"
ADW Launcher "Slow"?
midri said:
Those of you getting slugish results need to update their ADW settings (the defaults suck)
1) Screen Preferences - Desktop scrolling speed - set to something low-ish like 150-200, default settings are just plain moronic here. Desktop overshoot should be fine at 30 or 40.
2) Drawer Settings - Horizontal Drawer definite on (this is far superior to the scrolling drawer if you have more than a few apps, and feels much smoother).
3) Drawer Settings - Zoom effect speed - 400 is a decent setting, default was way too high.
4) Drawer Settings - Columns/Rows - 4x4 is a nice setting for portrait, if you don't like a crammed screen.
5) System Preferences - Wallpaper Hack - check this. If you have issues, change wallpapers to something of a sane size.
6) System Preferences - Use Screen Cache - check this.
7) System Preferences - Scrollable Widget support - you should start with this unchecked. Only check it if you have issues with some widgets. In my experience it didn't make a huge difference in performance or smoothness.

For now I am using this for kernels.
Savaged-Zen [2.6.37.4] [HAVS+CFS/BFS!] [with SBC]
Savaged-Zen [2.6.37.4] [HAVS+CFS/BFS!] [with noSBC]
Tiamat [2.6.37.4] [HAVS+BFS] [with or without SBC]
If you are having any problems while using these kernels please flash the stock kernel back (by reflashing the ROM) to see if the problem is the kernel or CM itself.

Great post. This should help a lot of people who have basic problems.

But how do you get holding the "back" capacitive button to force close the app you're in? I always thought that was a CM feature, but I've never been able to figure out how to enable it...

I know it may seem arbitrary but I'm trying to keep this just fixes and small tweaks that improve usability. Other mods are more of a person preference issue. I would like to see a thread for that, though. Maybe you could start it
This might also be of interest. From the RC2 Thread in the Development Sub-Forum.

RC2 and Nightly 11+ require the 20110307 GApps which are designed for Android 2.3.3.

Yeah, I was aware of that but I figured no one would be on RC1 or pre-11 nightly anymore.
Thanks for all the help guys!
I just want to point out that the CyanogenMod kernel shipped by default uses the BFS scheduler. BFS in theory should be a better scheduler for a device like a cell phone than CFS.

CM9 ICS battery life saving's tips with Advanced CMSettings.apk

Hello to everyone.
I know that there are some similar threads in this forum, but no one is strictly related to the CM9 alpha IML74K.
I know as well that this could be part of the CM9 user discussion thread, but I'd like to share the best settings to get a good battery life with our S2 in a clean thread.
So, please:
no trolls, no dumb questions.
Just share your own experience (with a battery screenshot should be better).
Thanks a lot.
Here we go:
Developer options:
Debug usb off
Allow mock locations off
Force GPU rendering off
Windows animation scale off
Transition animation scale off
Don't keep activities on
Background process limit on
Kill app back button on
Display:
Automatic brightness off (I'm using Brightness Level widget)
Black wallpaper (search for solid black.png from wikipedia)
Sleep after 1 minute of inactivity.
Pulse notification light off.
Trebuchet options:
Scroll wallpaper off
Sync settings:
Google account
Sync calendar on
Sync Contacts on
Sync Gmail on
Whattsapp account:
Sync Contacts on
Sound Settings:
Touch sounds off
Screen lock sounds off
Vibrate on touch off
Location services:
Google's location service on
Location & Google search on
(Gps satellites on only when using Sygic or Maps)
Date and time:
Automatic date & time off
Automatic time zone off
CyanogenMod Settings app v1.0:
Interface Settings/Expanded view widget
Toggle 2G/3G checked
Toggle Mobile data checked
For a quick switch to 2G mode and save more battery.
Testing "twek levels and filtering" in automatic backlight settings.
With Titanium Backup:
Frozen all live wallpapers, tts services and uninstalled Gtalk and mail.
P.S. Be careful, you need debug usb on when using Titanium Backup
Data on all the day. I turn it off when I go to bed.
Wireless on when I'm home and need to use dropbox or download a big file from my Gmail account.
I'm using CM9 01062012 (I know, there's a new one, but I've reached a very stable daily rom, no FC, no random reboots, fast and smooth).
Modem XXKL1
Now my battery lasts two days.
Well, when my girlfriend tells me stories about her life, it lasts one day and a half.
Important:
I've uninstalled Facebook app which was causing a battery drain. I'm using the mobile web page instead and I've to tell that it is faster.
Other apps installed:
Twitter, Maps, Sygic, Whattsapp, Beatiful widgets (with manual weather update), Xda premium, ...
2012-01-14 Added CyanogenMod Settings Apk v1.0 (from SGS forums)
How to install:
Download it to your internal SD card
Enter into Recovery mode;
Wipe cache;
Advanced settings, wipe dalvik cache;
Flash zip from Sdcard,
Choose CMSettings.zip and flash it.
Reboot system
2011-01-18 Update:
I've been trying few modems and I've found the best one for me: (Vodafone Spain, data on almost all the time, good signal quality, great battery life)
NEKD5 Modem Zip package.
Flash from recovery. Follow cmsettings instructions.
Nice post. Going to try some your suggestions.
I'm sure loads of other xdaers are going find this useful too.
So many posts in the cm9 discussion thread about battery life and how to achieve optimum performance good to have a thread about it.

The same here. But I've noticed that using Fastreboot app, it seems to kill/restart stuck apps/processes.
Anyway, rebooting the system before the night helps a lot.
Unless you're not a modern vampire...
Agree with others - excellent thread. There seem to be so many battery challenges with CM9 that a separate thread will lessen clutter in the discussion thread.
I've tried a number of your settings and have also flashed the KL1 modem. I had high hopes for KP4 at first, but it seems to have slipped back into old habits!
Has anyone looked into the FB-app? Why its causing battery problems?

The app and the process are still running after you close them.
I have tried to logout, but it's still there. I think the process keeps going for notifications and photo uploading.
I've tried to kill it, but it comes back after few seconds.
Finally I gave up and used the mobile web page.

But that isn't related to CM9, i had the same issues on gingerbread.
Yes, sir.
I knew it.
But it seems to me that Facebook app is eating more battery on ICS.
Checked my battery info and found out FB app percentage was 15% in 6 hours and I've used it just to read few messages. Then I've logged out.
I could be wrong, but I think it needs an update to control battery drain.
Indeed. I'll bet there are a host of apps that will need subtle tweaks and optimisations for ICS. Another reason not to expect too much from CM9 in terms of performance as yet...although access to kernal sources is obviously the big one!
CM settings
Trying right now CyanogenMod Settings app.
Flashable zip from recovery. The apk goes to /system.
It comes from GTi9000 forum and as I can see, it works perfectly on my S2.
It doesn't have so many options, but few are very important.
Let's have a look...
I'd be very interested on your feedback on this app.
On a different subject, I seem to have my battery back behaving reasonably well again with KP1 modem. In my tons of testing it seems like Nova Launcher - as much as I like it - is a significant contributor to my battery drain issues.
This could be because I have installed a bunch more stuff on Nova than I have with Trebuchet, so my next tactic is to gradually reintroduce some of my favourite widgets to Trebuchet to see if one of them suddenly starts killing my battery.
On the down side it may mean that I can't use one of my widgets for a while but on the plus side it may eliminate Nova as a battery drain meaning that I can go back to using it.
Have you tried FBM for facebook?
Basically the same look as the facebook app. But supposedly a lot cleaner!

As I said before, don't expect a very useful app. It's the 1.0 version, and hopefully it will be a great app. But for now I've tried only some settings in the automatic backlight and modified the notification power widget.
At the moment, that's all we have. Anyway, give it a try, if you'd like.
Screenshots added in the first post.
Anyone able to disable button's backlight? Its still on even though i set it to "0" in the custom settings..
Another thing,is it possible to the haptic feedback tweaks like in cm7 settings?
Back from some modem testings, I'd like to say that NEKD5 has surprised me.
Never loosing data at all, best battery life and no problem with sms and sync.
Here you've got it.

Not working
But I think had the same problem under gingerbread till the devs optimized the kernel...
What can be the cause of not having cm settings working correctly? I only have tabs like these:
Thanks in advance!

The different ICS leaks compared; things that does not work, and how to make it work.

Not sure if this belongs in general or in Q&A, but as it's supposed to be more of a discussion thread, I put it in general. If a mod disagrees, I'm sure it can be relocated.
I've tried both this and the Chinese I9220 leak, and none of them are good enough to be daily drivers for me. But they give me something to look forward to as the feel and speed of the GUI is just amazing compared to GB.
To sum up my main gripes about the ROMs:
Chinese I9220 leak:
Unstable bluetooth; Disconnects and will not reconnect without toggling BT off/on on handset side.
Hang; Whole handset just hangs. Need to keep power button pressed > 10 secs to force reboot.
Contacts application performs really bad; Stutters and hangs all over, even FCs at times. New favorites tab is really crap compared to old one. (BIG pictures of your favorites, no "most called" option.
Dialer no longer recognizes my incoming calls from contacts that has country code in their phone#; If someone calls me and I have stored their # in the format +47xxxxxxxx, it will only show up as a number on incoming call. As soon as I edit the contact and remove the +47, it will show up as normal.
Minor annoyance; A lot of preinstalled Chinese apps; these can be easily disabled under the application list in settings. That will make them disappear from your app drawer. Some of the apps tie into TW quite a bit, and I found no way to sort that out, but I am sure you can fix that as well if need be.
Minor annoyance; Color of address bar in stock browser is black on black, which makes it kind of hard to read.
Minor annoyance: Not all languages are present; can use English, but need to hack locales to get correct display of phone # etc.
Minor annoyance; Swiftkey X tablet not woking as it should. Does not show in landscape at all.
N7000 leak:
Showstopper, No sound on calls. Did not bother to play around with it too much after I found this, but also found it to be a bit less stable in general than the I9220 release. Quite a few TW apps FCing, and you needed to flash CSC twice to get a working keyboard.
Minor annoyance; Languages missing. Same deal as with the I9220 version.
Minor annoyance; Problems with graphics in some applications. Some applications like Swiftkey X tablet not working as it should.
So now I am back to stock, on the fence again. Really, really looking forward to a fully working release. The taste I have had here convinces me that the handset really will show its potential a lot better in ICS than what they have managed to do with GB.
If anyone has found solutions to the problems I list here or other problems I did not find, please post them here so that we can find a way to make these ROMs a daily driver as soon as possible.

at the moment:
chineese leak:
amazingly fast, even smoother than gingerbread with custom rom(rocket rom)
no color banding at calculator
video player isnt working
sammy leak:
laggy
color banding at calculator
so far i found these factors. But chineese leak can be used as daily rom.
I'm using chinese rom as daily now.
Chinese leak :
Much faster than XXLP1, also quite a bit more stable. Contacts app is slightly laggy but still worlds better than the one in GB. I'd still prefer stock ICS contacts app. With build.prop hacks it works well. BT works fine for me, although I don't use it a lot(Just to transfer a couple of pictures around)
Video problem : Fix by installing gapps and using stock ICS gallery(I deleted Gallery 3D, it's ugly compared to ICS' one).
XXLP1 :
Well....sucks. Laggier, more unstable than Chinese leak. Presumably older build, voice on phone doesn't work.
Currently using the chinese leak as daily, deleted crappy chinese apps and other samsung apps that I don't need + added CM9 Music app, build.prop tweaks, Nova Launcher, ICS Gallery, Chrome Beta.
The chinese leak hangs because of background ANRs. Other than that it works great.
Initially I wanted to cook a rom based on the chinese leak with AOSP apps (What I really want on my note is the TW S Pen apps + AOSP, or something close) such as AOSP contacts and AOSP SMS, whilst removing all the chinese crapware and some of the samsung crapware (eg: samsung apps) but I think I'll wait until a slightly more stable version comes out..

+1. Should temporary sticky it too. Prevent moronic comments like:
Ok so gone from chinese rom to this one and i gotta say, SAMMOBILE you succckkkk man, you kept us waiting for this pile of doggy doo, this rom seriously sux, crash crash crash, no matter how ya flash it, its poo, slow, laggy, sound static issues, absolutely awful, the unfinished cm9 has less bugs than this.
Reverting back to chinese, that rom is so much better than this.
Oh,
Thanks again sammobile

Not a great thing to say to someone that doesn't actually create the rom..
My intention was indeed to try to prevent the dev threads to be flooded by nondev and nonrelevant posts like that.
I will let this thread live a little and see if I can compile a list on each leak to sum up. Hopefully others that have a little more patience than myself will find ways around a few of the problems we already identified.

i am also using Chinese leak ROM as daily one and it works awesome with all bloatware freezer or removed with TB. Nova launcher works perfectly. I also use exDialer since the stock one is sooo crapy. I just wish I could get rid of TW notifications and get the stock ICS one.
I'm using the Chinese ROM set at 240 DPI (I read that going lower will cause it to freeze and require re-flashing), TouchPal Keyboard, Go Launcher, Go SMS (other SMS wasn't recognizing existing contacts), and I deleted most of the local apps. I haven't really had any problems with it. I think it is good enough to be a daily.
I would like to merge some of the CM9 stuff with this ROM but I think I'll wait for more experienced hands to do it.
I am also on the Chinese rom and it working just fine.... I haven't had any FCs or force reboots and overall its quite slick also ram memory is more than stock gingerbread firmware (816 vs 800mb)
Unstable bluetooth; Disconnects and will not reconnect without toggling BT off/on on handset side.
Hang; Whole handset just hangs. Need to keep power button pressed > 10 secs to force reboot.

I'm quite sure you are doing something wrong if all that is happening to you. My handset crashing was resolved when I found out it was an incompatible app, and my contacts with country code works fine.
I am using Chainfire's repack + Gapps and everything seems to be working fine.
There is only issue i have seen no solution to, that is the google calendar is not syncing. It does not appear on my google account at all.
Anyone able to help?

Hmm... Not sure if there's a lot that can be done wrong here. Wiped everything and installed from Mobile Odin.
Now it also has decided to turn down the ringtone and SMS sound. It has become extremely low in volume even though I have set it to max in the Settings - Sound - Volumes.
I think this is down to inconsistencies in the ROM and not me being unable to operate it...
-KJ
Edit: Rebooting solved the sound issue. For now.

Hey folks,
If you're experiencing problems with calendars - I believe the problem is actually that you are using another version of the Google Apps (and not the one provided in post #1)
I had found my Google Apps ZIP elsewhere with the filename:
gapps-ics-4.0.3-20111217[1].zip
The ZIP you actually need to restore:
gappsv7.1.zip
As soon as I flashed that and gapps_fixer.zip the Sync Calendar option appeared!

Comments about RO Acudroid V3 ICS Themed - 21/02/12 on Super Smooth Android 2.3.6 JQ9

Being a noob I am not allowed to post on the development forums...........
last night I upped my Galaxy Tab (Thai ROM) to Gengerbread 2.3.6 and Acudroid V3 ICS Themed.
1st I would like to comment about the instructions and the process:
My Tab is an important work tool for me - and I was a bit worried about bricking it and taking days to recover... BUT - I followed the instructions of Acubens - and where pointed to teamovercome.net kept following their instructions to the letter, and happily after a couple of hours my Tab was running 2.3.3 with teamover's ROM and later 2.3.6 with the Acudroid V3 ROM.
Restoring apps + data was fast and easy using Titanium and very soon I had my phone up and running just like I want it
As far as I can tell so far - seems everything is working fine - phone calls, sms, camera, email, GPS, wifi, GPRS, sounds and notofocations. As I didn't see and speed improvement I downloaded and installed no-frills CPU and overclocked the CPU to 1.2GHz - and now the Tab is FLYING.......
Now that I've done the up and ROM change - I hope to see more new ROMs for the TAB

So far 2 small issues I came accross -
1. Some notification sounds are not right - i had chrome2phone app and instead of just a short bip like it used to be - it was a non stop bipping for about 15 minutes. I removed the app and try to re-install only I can install it now for some reson. I installed for now the "browser 2 droid" instead, but the notification sound is the same 15 minutes non stop bipping...
Don't get sound notifications for "what's up", and on Gtasks. Probably some other apps that I didn't notice so far.
2. On some of the menus the text under the icons is white over white so can't see it before actually pressing it...
as for battery life - seems a shorter than the stock ROM I used before, but that might be becuase I play with the phone a bit more now...

I know it is some work but see it this way i have a lot of work to make the rom available, so all i ask from you if you like to use the rom to make an backup and flash a wipe version and it is worth the trouble i think.

Hi,
Sorry but no, i included a app called quickboot, this app shutdown or reboot your tab much faster, and you do not have to use a mechanical button that can be outworn if you use it much.

I looked for a solution and seems there is none... many users complain about the notification sound, some also mention it lasts forever (like mine...), but no 1 mention what version of Android they are using http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/issues/detail?id=239 . It worked fine on froyo - short sound and thats it. so probably some changes between froyo and GB cuases the problem. Only way to stop the sound is by forceclosing the app

WIFI
It seems I have a problem with the WIFI scanning. It only scans when I reconnect the WIFI. If I go out of the WIFI area the tab goes on EDGE as should be, but when coming into a WIFI area it wont show it nor connect to it unless I stop WIFI service and start again. Didn't have this problem on V3... Anyone else got this problem? any solution?

Changed it to 45 - hope it fixed the probel (will see next time I leave the office).
For the benefit of other noob's (it took me a while to find out how to do it...) here's how I managed the change step by step:
1. Used Rom Toolbox / scripter / Mount System Read Write / Run
2. Used Root Explorer to go to /system/build.prop << Long press on the file name and change permissions to rwrwrw
3. Used Astro to open the file (long press, select open as / text << select astro's text editor), located the line I wanted to change [wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=180], changed the value, saved
4. Used Root Explorer to go to /system/build.prop << Long press on the file name and change permissions to rwr-r-
5. Used Rom Toolbox / scripter / Mount System Read Only / Run
6. Reboot system
Careful not to change something you are not sure about as you might brick the phone....
use ES File Explorer.
Just make sure you go to its setting, Root Option and enable its Root Explorer and Mount File System.
Then you can browse to "Favourite" and select the "/"
and go to systems and edit the build.prop using its own internal ES Edit note, and it even make a backup of the original file for you.
A lot less step than what you needed to do there.
