[Q] Factory Reset is not working! - Desire HD General

Hi,
I've rooted using the following manual:
How to Root the HTC Desire HD - xda-developers
After that, everything was OK.
Unfortunately I tried to re-root it (just curious), during the process the htc white screen was appeared and the phone was freezed. After plugging it out, when phone is booted, this page is coming and not leave!
I tried to reset using "factory reset", It starts but after reboot, htc white screen is remain!
Can you help me?

Seems like a corrupt or missing system and/or kernel.
Just take a RUU and follow the instructions and then try to reroot.

Thanks.
Would you please instruct me?
The bad news is that the "recovery" does not work. When I select "recovery" in the bootloader a red icon appears in the screen.
How can I change RUU?

RUU (ROM Update Utility) is a executable-setup that needs to be run on your PC with your phone connected via USB.
Download an RUU exe from here. Connect your phone to your PC and run the setup.
Your phone will be wiped clean and restored to factory settings. Try re-rooting using the Advanced Ace Hack Kit.
EDIT:
You can find the latest version of the Stock ROM RUU in this thread.

OK.
Just some questions:
1. which RUU has to be downloaded? -currently, I"m planning to use: RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.37.707.3_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_188759_signed.exe
2. My phone becomes a stone! when I connect it to the PC, just in charge mode while the phone is off. Is it possible to wipe in this situation?!
Thanks for your quick reply.

When running RRU, it detects that the phone is not connected via USB. As I said before the phone's OS is not loaded so it can not process on it.
Is there any low level format for this phone?
Recovery and factory reset are not working through boot loader.

Save starting a new thread.
I'm in a very similar situation where I can't run the RUU as my DHD won't load past the white HTC screen. I can get it it to the HBOOT USB PLUG screen, but entering into the FASTBOOT, RECOVERY or FACTORY RESET sends it to a black screen with a red triangle and an exclamation mark.
When i go into System Info all looks good, however exiting out it says "No image or wrong image!"
I have tried updating the drivers but all that did was bring up Android Bootloader Interface in Device Manager.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok seems that You are entering stock recovery. Are You S-OFF? If You are then You can flash CWM recovery and flash a custom ROM. If not you will have to flash a Ruu for your cell. Do You know how to find the Cid number?

Got about the same problem here.
Factory reset doesn't do anything. Still got the same Rom problems and NONE of the usersettings or apps are removed.
Also using recovery doesn't make a change.
Flashing an RUU looks promising, but also doesn't do anything.
IMHO it sounds like none of the options above have the RIGHTS to write any information OR the paths they are using can't be found...
please advice..

If you can get to bootloader, try using fastboot. Or try copying a pd98img file to your sdcard and flash it through bootloader.
You didn't mention does the charge led light up when you connect it to your PC.

[Q] Bricked Defy and not recognized by my USB

Guys,
First of all, hello to all! So, I followed a tutorial to install Froyo on my Defy. Now I'm stuck with my phone trying to boot as soon as i put the battery on, but it never makes it past the "M". I can get into recovery. I wiped data, cache and tried to install the "update.zip" but it aborts saying "signature verification failed." I have the boot file (that was the next step) to install using RSDlite 4.9 but the phone is not even recognized any of my USB ports. Any ideas? Thanks to all in advanced.
press volumn up buton and power button on boot , once you saw the backlit is on , release the button , you will see the rsd litle showing your usb .
dont worry . i think it is your first time to use RSD only
yea i been through that ( doesnt work on vista )
you need to install rsd lite and 2.51 UK Firmware ( no usa )
google it and you will find it or on this forum
install usb driver from motorola webiste
install rsd lite
put uk firmware in ... C drive/ program files / motorola / rsd lite
install driver
If your phone is stuck on " M " then pull battery out
turn on and quicky press power + vol up ( i think ) before M even appear
wait till it say your boot loader and your battery
plug phone in
start rsd lite
on ... look up your uk firmware that you you recently put in rsd lite folder
then you should see your phone connected on the 1 slot
then hit start or something and wait it out .
Thanks guys! But I've been messing around with this thing for so long, I drained the battery. I had to run it up to the local phone store to get it charged. I'll pick it up in a couple of hours and give your advice a try.
Hey guys! it worked! I'm up and running. Now, anyone has a link to bypass this Welcome to Motoblur screen. Is there a Custom Froyo or Gingerbread Rom out there without Motoblur?
Alright... I'm up and running, but no camera!!! Heck, it was a learning experience. I guess I'll go back to 2.1 now. LOL
So the Chinese ROM was rooted. I installed Clockworkmod and restored from the backup i had made of the original 2.1 OS. I'm back to a rebooting phone not making it past the "M" I went back to RSDlite and realized the boot file said 2.2 only. Can anyone assist me finding the right one to go back to original. I haven't been able to find a thread about reverting back to original.
The more I read, the smarter I get seems like the only thing I'm missing here is the SBF file for my original T-Mobile OS. I'm looking at the motorola website, but I can't find it. Can anyone point me to it? Thanks all! Oh yeah, this is the first android phone i mess with so my apologies.
There is no us sbf file. You have to flash a uk version and restore 3g with the posted fix. You can find the links to available sbf files on this forum. They are not available thru moto's site.

Just to make sure I got it right. After using clockworkmod to restore to my factory backup, I need to use the UK sbf to be able to boot to it. Correct?
I found the sbf for Central Europe with no Motoblur. Does anyone know of any issues with it?
well the only way to fix this if you previously backed up your rom/files with recovery ( good thing i did this ). If not then you have to live with what you got.
I backed up my original firmware using clockworkmod. I flashed to the Chinese 2.2 but my camera didn't work. Since the camera is important to me, the Chinese Froyo was a deal breaker. I installed clockworkmod again and "recovered" from my original backup but now my defy won't boot. Did I miss a step?
Your data from the backup may cause issues when rolling backwards. Install an eclair sbf, then restore. That worked for me.
On another note there is a fix for the camera. Check the forums.

Bricked Defy and not recognized by my USB
I also bricked my phone when going back to stock from cm7. My phone is able to go into boot loader. But it is not recognized by my desktop PC/RSDlite. I tried in linux with SBF_Flash. I tried with my laptop also. no luck . anyone please help me!

Just try and install the Motorola Drivers in your desktop and open RSDLite and press 'show devices' button. It will surely show the details of your phone.
Then point RSDLite to the stock SBF and flash away.

If you hear the USB plugged in sound in your Pc, it's a messed up driver installation. If you don't hear the sound, it can be a bad cable, or a faulty microusb port (assuming that your pc usb works fine). Try once in a different pc and with a different microusb cable.

I do not hear any sound from desktop/laptop.
I think I stuck in boot loop. When I try to power on the phone, it just shows CM7 boot logo for few seconds then restarts again shows the boot logo... this happens continually. When I try to enter into recovery, it does not go to CWM recovery instead it goes to stock recovery. I am still able to enter into boot loader. In boot loader, it says battery OK connect USB to program. When I connect USB, it is recognized by phone and says transfer mode: USB. But my PC does not shows up the phone.
I tried re-installing drivers and RSDlite many times but no luck. But I have nandroid backup of CM7. Is there any possibilities to enter into CWM recovery?
Any help is appreciated.
Edit:
I tried even different USB cables and PCs also.

EDIT: when i turn on usb debugging and try adb devices nothing shows up i know i got the right drivers because my gfs MT3G shows up under adb devices
Boot into fastboot and plug it up to the computer while on that screen to see if Windows will start installing drivers. The issue with the computer not recognizing the phone is driver related so if the previow try doesn't work, you'll need to manually uninstall them which I will link to in a second. After that you can use either guide in my signature to root. I'll also link you to a topic to clear up the confusion about the board.

Use the link from my second post to reinstall the drivers. The other possibility is that USB is hosed in the ROM.

ii think the usb is hosed on the rom..... what now? lol i can get into the recovery menu by pressing home and power but it wont let me choose anything
ps while in fastboot mode it suddenly said fastboot usb and it popped up on my computer but nothing after that
Let me get back to my computer, about 20 minutes. So even if you select the factory reset option in recovery, it doesn't do anything? If that does work it'll wipe all your apps and you'll have to log back in with your Google account.

its a new phone i havent done anything since i noticed how bad froyo sucked on here
so i dont have apps files etc on it its still clean
and yeah i can get into the recovery thing but i cant select anything i can navi with the volume and trackball to like highlight wipe data etc etc but when i try pushing buttons to try and select anything i cant even tried pushing in the trackball nothing i cant get it to do anything
i know pushing the trackball function works because it works under android
this suckssssss
Doesn't suck. It's definitely fixable, just trying to figure out how much work it's going to be.
Try using the new school guide to root from my signature. If we run into problems its going to be while your using SuperOneClick to try and root. I'm hoping it works though. Try that, let me know whether SuperOneClick works or if you have a problem. If you have a problem, please copy the log and post it with the problem.
what if i try flashing the stock oem rom via volume down+ power sequence
and where can i download it
the computer doesnt see anything so its says waiting for device on the superoneclick
can i try flashing the oem rom?
That would get you back to 1.6. If you don't want to root and install a new ROM you can do that. Let me know and I'll provide what you need.
i mean like the official ota 2.2.1 just to see if it was the rom thats screwing with the usb connections
edit i think it has to be in the img extension i tried to downgrade but it gave me a model id error
Not without downgrading to 1.6 first and then upgrading back to 2.2.1. If recovery was working we could just re-flash the 2.2.1 ROM which would probably fix the issues your having. So do you want to downgrade to 1.6 and then root, downgrade to 1.6 and stay there, or downgrade to 1.6 and then re-update to 2.2.1?
trackball isnt working maybe after a lil googling it says to push in the trackball to do a restore in the recovery menu but its not working
i wont mind downgrading
No, it's a common problem with the recovery after running the update. Just downgrading?
i just wanna get off of froyo so what ever i gotta do i am pretty savy but ive never encountered this problem etc so im sure i can follow directions
the oem froyo sucks i just wanna try a new rom
1. Download this file, rename it to "sappimg.zip".
2. Put it on your SD card.
3. Turn the phone off.
4. Boot into hboot by holding (volume down+power), after a few seconds you'll see a bar pop up in the upper right-hand corner.
5. When prompted to hit "ACTION" to apply the image, press the trackball in.
6. You'll see a few different bars pop up in the upper right-hand corner, and then it'll ask if you want to reboot. Press the trackball in to reboot.
7. /fistpump, you're now on 1.6.
Note: You will eventually get the prompt to update again. Make sure you don't or you'll end up going through this again. If you decide later on to root, just use the "New School" guide in my signature. The "Old School" guide will work for your phone as well, but it's a lot harder and more time consuming.
it doesnt find anything i renamed file to sappimg.zip put it on the root of the sd card and it doesnt find anything
anything else?

[Q] A little bit stuck, need ideas.

Turned my phone off and back on a couple of days ago and now the phone boot loops after showing the telstra logo.
I have Hboot and fastboot access but no recovery. (does the same thing, just boot loops), even though I had clockworkmod installed. It's as if everything just wiped itself.
My hboot is version 0.80.0008 and it says S-ON.
What could I do from here to revive my phone? Would a gold card be the only way?
I have created some other posts but none had been replied to, any help would be greatly appreciated.

i've had one bootloop before, which was solved by removing sd card and booting up then replacing, hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've already tried booting without the SD card in with no success. It's quite frustrating because I was only playing music before I turned it off.
Any other suggestions? Anyone?
which rom are you using?
my h-boot is 0.80.0004 s on.
was there anything new loaded on phone prior to your bootloop problem?
i had another issue after loading some new tunes on sd card, even though they were fine on pc, they made my phone schitz out, kept on rebooting and made sd card read only, i know its a longshot but i'm trying to think of anything i can
I'm using SUnAaBh v1.1 which is quite ironic because it was renowned to be one of the most reliable and stable roms out there haha.
I did get fruit ninja but it had been a while since I reset it so I don't know for sure what it could be since I've put various things on, but none that I could think of that would potentially force a boot loop.
I do really appreciate your help. It provides some hope until I can get my hands on a gold card
Is there any other way that you know of to flash it while it is in the current state?
have you tried rooting using unrevoked again and installing clockworkmod?
What mode would I have to be in for unrevoked to recognise my phone?
As I cannot boot into the phone, USB debugging is a no go. Does unrevoked recognise a device in fastboot or something similar?
Thanks.
Boot into Clockmod Recovery and then try to clear cache & DALVIK cache. Then boot again and wait some Minutes.

Hi Deep-Knight. That would have been my first option but as I stated, for some reason selecting recovery from HBOOT just makes the device loop boot after the telstra logo again, it doesn't boot into clockworkmod recovery anymore.
I don't understand why.
Thanks

was your phone already with usb debugging enabled before this bootloop? if it was already enabled, unrevoked will work fine.
(i always keep it enabled)
Hmm, originally when I used unrevoked I would have had it enabled (obviously) but since then I've flashed other roms using clockworkmod. So everytime you flash a new rom, it gets rid of USB debugging unless you enable it again correct?
Therefore I don't think USB debugging is enabled on mine. Ahh, it's so annoying.
I have it on HBOOT and plugged into my pc but Unrevoked isn't picking it up, I assume it's because I don't have USB debugging enabled, or am I wrong?
Thanks guys, really appreciate it!
it shouldn't change usb debugging, all the roms i have flashed its still there after being turned on once. check your messages too, sent you some info on telstra
Oh okay, I still have no luck with unrevoked though. Tried it on a different PC with the HBOOT modified drivers. Just stuck on "Waiting for device..."
ADB commands also do NOT work, so I am lead to believe that usb debugging is NOT enabled?
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks.
EDIT: NEVER MIND, I got it working! I found a recovery zip (PC49IMG.zip) and renamed the cyanogenmod as update.zip, put them both on my SD card and booted into recovery!
Clockwork stated there wasnt enough room on E: (whatever drive that is) so I flashed all data and installed cyanogenmod.
Thanks heaps everyone, means a lot to me
PS - I dont know why clockwork mod decided to boot this time but it did. Maybe because it had to room, it couldnt boot? I don't know, I'm not that experienced with these things.
good to hear mate, now go and get some credit from telstra

Is my DHD dead? (stucked in HBOOT, any option I choose, it always backs to HBOOT)

Hello everybody,
I have a HTC Desire HD which I was using the Android Revolution 6.3.2 with the recommended radio. I was running everything well for 2 weeks more or less.
This last week I went to Croatia for holidays and I realized something. Suddenly, the battery was finishing very fast. Then I removed the battery and put it on again and the nightmare started.
It went to the HBOOT screen and I'm stucked there. Doesn't matter which option I choose, it always back to the same screen. I can select reboot in fastboot, reboot in recovery, and nothing happens. It just back to the same screen over and over again.
I tried to remove the SIM CARD, SD CARD, take the battery off for an hour, and nothing.
I tried to flash the recovery again via ADB, but it doesn't work. It doesn't enter into the recovery. It just still keep backing from the same HBOOT screen.
I tried to run the RUU again. I got two different versions, and in both of them, starts well, it reboots my phone and when it backs, it says "waiting for fastboot" and I got a timeout message saying that the USB cable is not connected (the usb cable is fine).
I tried also to extract the ROM file from the RUU, put on the SDCARD (named as PD98IMG.zip) and run directly on the phone. It didn't work.
I have access from ADB (because when I plug the USB, I can see on the HBOOT screen).
Does someone has any idea of how to solve that? My knowledge is not so deep and I googled/read most of the things I tried.
Any fastboot or adb command that I can type and will bring my phone back?
Thanks for the help guys!

[Q] Deep Trouble - Help me Please

I went from a rooted and unlocked Nexus7, tried to flash a new Rom from recovery, but didn't have GAPPs installed.
I tried to transfer them over when it last booted up, but they wouldn't copy.
I tried to reset with the Nexus tool kit, and its killed my Nexus7 Wifi
All I have is the boot logo with the unlocked symbol.
I can try to restart but it hangs..
I try to start recovery, and all I see is the android lying down with a red triangle over his heart
Is there anyway to recover from this state...
I have No ABD access either...
I've been reading and searching/trying for hours with no luck...

ok firstly you should have made a backup from clockworkmod/team win recovery before you flashed anything! as then you could have just reflashed it and been right back to square 1.
secondly stay calm your not bricked. adb does not work while your in fastboot mode. only fastboot mode does. i suspect that you had a bad download and its had an issue while flashing your stock rom.
so, download your prefered android version from here making sure to download the correct type for your n7 IE wifi for wifi and mobile or the 3g version. if you use the wrong type you can brick your tablet.
then simply follow this guide, changing the names of the files to match the one you download. if you follow this guide you will get your device back to stock and boot-able.
just make sure you have a working adb/fastboot folder and make sure you place the extracted files in that folder before you try to flash anything.
good luck pal
