mytouch 3g 3.5 problems please help - myTouch 3G, Magic General

i have a problem with my tmobile branded mytouch 3g 3.5mm version
first off i got this second off my buddy in great shape almost new
has the 2.2.1 update but man it sucks FC alot very laggy
well my first problem is it will not connect to the computer either usb storage mode or usb debugging plus no options for any usb storage mode is this normal?
ps it does charge my phone but no option for charging or usb storage mode
plus i did a factory restore doing the same thing
i know the usb cable works because my gf uses it for her mytouch and it works flawless but see she never upgraded shes on 1.6 still
second i thought tmobile mytouchs had a pvt32b boards or am i wrong?
mine says
sapphire pvt 32a ship s-on g
hboot-1.33.0013 (sapp31000)
cpld-13
radio 2.22.28.25
well all in all i wanna root it but ive tried z4root nothing
universalroot nada
tried to downgrade nada
i just wanna get off this stupid froyo and put a custom rom or something that actually works any suggestions on what to do
EDIT: when i turn on usb debugging and try adb devices nothing shows up i know i got the right drivers because my gfs MT3G shows up under adb devices

Boot into fastboot and plug it up to the computer while on that screen to see if Windows will start installing drivers. The issue with the computer not recognizing the phone is driver related so if the previow try doesn't work, you'll need to manually uninstall them which I will link to in a second. After that you can use either guide in my signature to root. I'll also link you to a topic to clear up the confusion about the board.

More info link: here.
To manually re-install the drivers: here. Look at Section III.

ok i booted into fastboot mode and windows did start to install drivers and it said device is ready etc but when i go back into android nada still doesnt see the phone

Use the link from my second post to reinstall the drivers. The other possibility is that USB is hosed in the ROM.

ii think the usb is hosed on the rom..... what now? lol i can get into the recovery menu by pressing home and power but it wont let me choose anything
ps while in fastboot mode it suddenly said fastboot usb and it popped up on my computer but nothing after that

Let me get back to my computer, about 20 minutes. So even if you select the factory reset option in recovery, it doesn't do anything? If that does work it'll wipe all your apps and you'll have to log back in with your Google account.

its a new phone i havent done anything since i noticed how bad froyo sucked on here
so i dont have apps files etc on it its still clean
and yeah i can get into the recovery thing but i cant select anything i can navi with the volume and trackball to like highlight wipe data etc etc but when i try pushing buttons to try and select anything i cant even tried pushing in the trackball nothing i cant get it to do anything
i know pushing the trackball function works because it works under android
this suckssssss

Doesn't suck. It's definitely fixable, just trying to figure out how much work it's going to be.
Try using the new school guide to root from my signature. If we run into problems its going to be while your using SuperOneClick to try and root. I'm hoping it works though. Try that, let me know whether SuperOneClick works or if you have a problem. If you have a problem, please copy the log and post it with the problem.

what if i try flashing the stock oem rom via volume down+ power sequence
and where can i download it

the computer doesnt see anything so its says waiting for device on the superoneclick
can i try flashing the oem rom?

That would get you back to 1.6. If you don't want to root and install a new ROM you can do that. Let me know and I'll provide what you need.

i mean like the official ota 2.2.1 just to see if it was the rom thats screwing with the usb connections
edit i think it has to be in the img extension i tried to downgrade but it gave me a model id error

Not without downgrading to 1.6 first and then upgrading back to 2.2.1. If recovery was working we could just re-flash the 2.2.1 ROM which would probably fix the issues your having. So do you want to downgrade to 1.6 and then root, downgrade to 1.6 and stay there, or downgrade to 1.6 and then re-update to 2.2.1?

trackball isnt working maybe after a lil googling it says to push in the trackball to do a restore in the recovery menu but its not working

i wont mind downgrading

No, it's a common problem with the recovery after running the update. Just downgrading?

i just wanna get off of froyo so what ever i gotta do i am pretty savy but ive never encountered this problem etc so im sure i can follow directions
the oem froyo sucks i just wanna try a new rom

1. Download this file, rename it to "sappimg.zip".
2. Put it on your SD card.
3. Turn the phone off.
4. Boot into hboot by holding (volume down+power), after a few seconds you'll see a bar pop up in the upper right-hand corner.
5. When prompted to hit "ACTION" to apply the image, press the trackball in.
6. You'll see a few different bars pop up in the upper right-hand corner, and then it'll ask if you want to reboot. Press the trackball in to reboot.
7. /fistpump, you're now on 1.6.
Note: You will eventually get the prompt to update again. Make sure you don't or you'll end up going through this again. If you decide later on to root, just use the "New School" guide in my signature. The "Old School" guide will work for your phone as well, but it's a lot harder and more time consuming.

it doesnt find anything i renamed file to sappimg.zip put it on the root of the sd card and it doesnt find anything
anything else?

OK I'm sorry but I'm Having issues with Fastboot

I tried asking in the Boot Image thread but since that thread was originally posted in January, I dont think anyone even goes in there anymore. OK this is what Ive got.
Im not sure if it was the new radio update or the JF1.5 or 1.51 but ever since Ive upgraded from RC33 the fastboot screen has changed and I havent been able to change my Boot Image.
Instead of just connecting the phone to the computer and pressing back to get fastboot it now give me 4 options instead of just fastboot.Up top it says
FASTBOOT USB (highlighted in red) then
<CAMERA STEP2> HBoot Mode
<SEND> Reset Device
<ACTION> Restart to HBoot
<MENU> Power Down
Is there a new driver i have to download? or is it something else? because when i go to RUN/CMD and I type in the correct commands to change the Boot Image it does nothing it says <waiting for device>
I'm Sorry if this may seem like a dumb Q? but I figured maybe I wasn't the only one having this problem?
sorry I dont really know the answer man, sounds like you are using a new spl or some other bootloader. However, just to let you know, you really needed to post this in the dev section and not the theme section. you probably would get a better response over there.
Stericson
un install your phones drivers in device manager.
unplug your phone,
reboot your computer into safe mode.
plug your phone into usb.
a dialog box will pop up, navigate it to the sdk folder or wherever you have the g1 drivers. install them. wait till it finishes.
then unplug your phone and boot it into fastboot mode. the plug it back in again. and install the same drivers again
unplug your phone and reboot your computer. you should be able to access your phone in fast boot now.
dont push boot images in safe mode, it may be unstable
Thanx guys let me see what i can do
Editk i must have updated to another SPL so i went back to the Original HardSpl and it came back thanx stericson fo the Idea. back to normal
Message to MODS: you can close this if you want I'm sorry for wasting space
Hi,
There is a new driver for the usb connection.
Unzip this file to a folder and plug in your phone don't Mount .
The computer should ask for a driver.
if it doesn't look in control panel, system, usb controllers.
One of the devices will should a problem, update the driver with the files you downloaded and you should be ok.
The computer doesn't recognize the new bootloader until you update the driver.
When you then plug in your phone, it will say fastboot usb.

Un-root CDMA Hero (Sprint)

I have an HTC Hero running Fresh 0.7 with the two-part patch applied. I would like to un-root the phone if at all possible. I have attempted using the RUU utility, but received an error code 170 when I ran it. The error indicates a USB connection issue, but the phone is definitely plugged in and has all drivers installed (I have the SDK and ADB drivers installed).
Can anyone give me a hand restoring my phone? Any help is greatly appreciated.
try booting into fastboot mode (hold vol up and power on) then run the RUU utility. This method has saved me at one point!
saved me too! I got into a pickle when i flashed a cyanogen 6 rom. The rom worked but for some reason my sdcard would not mount, keep getting
E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0
p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
so then i tried fastboot and made sure usb was connected ( fastboot devices )
and still had problems.... fastboot failed, remote: not allow .. so after a couple of days reading forums i tried running my phone in fastboot usb ( made sure was connected through command on pc ) then ran Hero_C_Sprint_2.27.651.5_R_2.1update.exe utility and Bam! Loaded up back into stock. haven't had any problems and my sdcard works again
Fastboot mode has always worked for me. (Volume UP + Power On)
i have a question, i am taking my phone back to sprint today and if i just flash the RUU will it be fine, or will i have to unroot it??

it's right there in the thread you linked to.
1. Simply rename this to HERCIMG.zip and place on the root of your SDCard.
2. Power your phone completely off.
3. Press and Hold VOL DOWN and POWER until your phone boots into HBoot mode.
4. Wait for it to verify the zip, then click <ACTION> (Trackball) to update, or <SEND> (Green Call) to cancel.

If your running Windows 7 and get error 170 just exit out of the program, unplug, plug it in and rerun the program. That's what worked for me.

Phone is On but screen is blank while rooting

hi i was trying to root my evo, everything was going fine, until after installing the PC36IMG.zip it asked me to reboot, now the phone reboots, but the screen is black i can hear the sounds, feel the vibration, but no picture on the screen, even while trying to go into recovery, it doesnt show any picture, i can see the lights but no the pics, pls help!
Maybe you used wrong pc36img, what root method did you use.
i used the guide that says for 2.2, but now my screen is black, but the phone is on
Did u have the latest ota?
Latest sprint update
nope, i just got my evo today and i didnt upgrade anything, any way to unbrick my phone?
What part of the rooting process were you on? We're you downgrading to 2.1 with the pc36image?
yes afeter that is when this happened
Well the phone isnt rooted then so I would go over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800582 and download that, and try to run it. It runs from windows and you dont have to see anything on the evo. Make sure its been on a few minutes though to be sure... and cross your fingers.
You do need to load HTC sync for it to work too.
but it doesnt connect to htc sync either
hrmm, well u could be having usb driver issues with windows. So you loaded Sync, you dont need to be in Sync, just have it loaded. Then run the RUU file. What does the dialog from the RUU say? Something about a usb error?
when i try to run the rru file, it doesnt even run, i just wait and wait and nothing happens...
RDIT: Now it is stuck in the white screen with the htc logo on it, im still not able on running the RUU file, it just seem on not to open on my pc
What changed so that you were able to get to the HTC boot screen? Have you tried doing a battery pull to get back into recovery? See if you can backtrack your steps from where you last stopped to see if that can jog your memory. Let us know what you find out.
well i gave up, and went back and got a new phone, but now im afraid on trying to root it again, any advices?
If you are going to root again go to unrevoked.com and download that and root using that

install mods and updates without fastboot?

since i somehow managed to lose the ability to connect via fastboot..
is there another way for me to install zips?
phone rooted with 1 click..
also open to ideas as to why fast boot only says < waiting for device > now?
no conflicts in dev mgr, have uninstalled and reinstalled the sync and driver..
removed from dev mgr..
updated while in fastboot mode etc..
no dice..
318-us
official 2.2 rom
att unlocked.
Black
can i convert a zip to a pkg and rename it update.pkg?
right now all i have is the pkg option when i hold the vol buttons and power.
i recently flashed to the new update which had fixes and newer baseband etc..
that went fine but the the steve 1.5 came out and i want to switch back.
as stated above thats not possible now since fastboot refuses to see my device.
Can someone put it in a pkg format for me maybe?
I dont like this official release...
its slow..it has lame apps, etc..
lil help?
dont really want to formate my laptop to fix a usb driver issue..
especially when the mass storage and sync work just fine..
+1
cant use fastboot after update to 318
rooted by super one click
black
unlock 00
there is a way of flashing custom recovery via terminal emulator. DEVICE NEEDS TO BE ROOT'D
save .img on to SDcard and rename to recovery.img
then open terminal emulator and type
su (press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img (press enter)
reboot (press enter)
I had the waiting for device problem. I read a few tips saying to try...
Type "adb devices" to see if its recognised there.
Make sure streak is the only device plugged in usb.
If using a hub try a different slot or direct into pc.
Turn streak off and into fastboot while still connected to pc (after pc loads drivers)
Reboot pc.
I swapped usb soccets and that fixed it for me
Hope one of these tips works for you too.
Thank you. I actually tried all of those things...before i posted.
wondering if maybe the 318 isn't compatible..
it says its in fastboot mode..
everything else works..sync, sd card shows in explorer etc etc..
just no fastboot.
luckily the recovery still allows me to do .pkg but i need zips too
very annoying..
I ordered a M11XR2 and will try with that when it arrives..

I have 318 and fastboot works for me.
I only had to reconnect the adb bootloader interface driver again (just like I had to the very first time).
It is just fine now...
http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=8285
I've not had any issues with fastbooting, after installing 318, I've managed to flash clockworkmod aswell as the new Streakmod recoveries with my Windows 7 64bit.
reconnect the adb bootloader???
what do you mean?
you mean you plugged the usb cable in and ran fastboot?
lol
yeah..thats helpful

NO....
The streak wasn't recognized on the PC in fastboot mode, so I went back to device manager and found the unrecognized android device and set it to use the bootloader driver... The same proceedure as was done the first time the streak was connected to a PC to setup fastboot.
Took almost 30 seconds to fix
as i said though.. i have no conflicts...
I can even remove it from the device mgr...put eh phone in fastboot mode where it is waiting for usb coinnection..plug the phone in.. iot installs the drivers then the phone sees this and shows fast boot...
so you would expect it to work right? wrong... it says waiting for device...
I have tried everything I can think of..
i got a good deal on a new m11xr2 with win 7 so i will have a fresh slate and will see what results i can get.
in the mean time.. how can i convert this steve 1.5.zip to a .pkg?
or even install it with some other sokution or method?
i have it rooted via one click...
i have root explorer...
what now? lol
there has to be a better way..

Its easy to miss bits when its all going wrong so do check the sticky look here first for streak, I had to refer to it a few times. You definitely need clockworkmod or streakmod to flash updates. I believe you can do it via a terminal app with su privileges. There's a thread from a few hrs ago saying. I will find for you if you can't
Can zip be extracted and converted to .pkg?
Hell I would be content with just a way to install the performance tweaks...thats the main issue really...

I know Steve mentions "if you haven't flashed official dell update" blah blah... so im guessing you don't loose performance unless you manually downgrade? Have you seen the thread I mentioned? The OP claims he changed the dell .pkg to .zip and successfully flashed via clockwork..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869076
how does that help me?
when i power up holding the vol up and down buttons i only get the install Update.pkg option and when i choose it it takes me to the blue text screen when i choose to either update via pkg or reboot. its the Android system recovery utility GAUSB1A131800
there is no option or way to get an option to install zip.
I would like to be able to install the performance fix for 2.2 zip or steves 1.5zip
so do you understand now?
I cant get fastboot to work to install clockwork.
I only have the recovery utility...

it seems like i remember a thread about converting zip to pkg..
I cant seem to find it though..
if you just rename it in root explorer you get a signing validation error when you try to install it..
so I'm still stuck on stock 2.2
The initial thread is irrelevant, Have you not flashed a clockworkmod or streakmod previously? I would guess its possible to store a recovery.img on sd then flash via terminal app, i cant see why not? You could also probably use adb (if you cant connect to that the theres apps to do it wirelessly)
yes, i have flashed many times...
I flashed to 309 recovery in order to install the latest dell Update.pkg which went just fine. then when i went back to flash clockwork i could no longer connect via fastboot.
and thats where im at now..
cannot get fastboot to flash clockwork so i can install zips..
hence im asking for a way to do it without clockwork/fastboot until i get that sorted..

an I still believe the issue is that you do not have the correct bootloader driver installed on your PC as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=397078&d=1283901727
The issue is your PC, not the Streak (most likely)

issue with using the revolutionary tool.

Yes, the fastboot mode needs to be UNCHECKED/OFF.
Make sure you uninstall HTC sync from your computer. I finally got it to work for me yesterday morning.
Yes fast boot unchecked a must, usb debug on charge only afterwards, choose recovery itl boot into a blue cwm screen and choose the su-2.3.6.3 zip on your sd card which needs to be on root of sd, then youll have superuser pushed to your device thats it!!!!!!!
