I don't get it. When i try and get my vibrant into dl mode using this method -
Step 1.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 2.) *Added this: Power off your phone before trying to get into download mode, and then....*
Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone.
- all that happes is a green battery bar comes up. Tried it on my roommates vibrant and it went straight into dl mode. WTF?
*EDIT - Phone is rooted and running the factory rom. I'm trying to install the JI6 update found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803492
I really don't understand why its so hard for people to get into DL mode.
Unless your soft bricked you don't need to go through all these steps.
'adb reboot download ' in adb is all you need to do.

Well now you know, my friend.
It's really not hard to learn how to use ADB.
If you plan on messing around with your phone, you should definitely familiarize yourself with it.

yeah, i installed the drivers last night along with odin. we were using odin to install the JI6 update and it stopped midway. the fact that we can only ude adb to get into download mode is frustrating since windows no longer recognizes my phone
Yeah I'm not familiar with adb enough to advise but you should be able to find what you need on this site if I find anything I think can help I'll post back good luck man

i have a problem with my tmobile branded mytouch 3g 3.5mm version
first off i got this second off my buddy in great shape almost new
has the 2.2.1 update but man it sucks FC alot very laggy
well my first problem is it will not connect to the computer either usb storage mode or usb debugging plus no options for any usb storage mode is this normal?
ps it does charge my phone but no option for charging or usb storage mode
plus i did a factory restore doing the same thing
i know the usb cable works because my gf uses it for her mytouch and it works flawless but see she never upgraded shes on 1.6 still
second i thought tmobile mytouchs had a pvt32b boards or am i wrong?
mine says
sapphire pvt 32a ship s-on g
hboot-1.33.0013 (sapp31000)
cpld-13
radio 2.22.28.25
well all in all i wanna root it but ive tried z4root nothing
universalroot nada
tried to downgrade nada
i just wanna get off this stupid froyo and put a custom rom or something that actually works any suggestions on what to do
EDIT: when i turn on usb debugging and try adb devices nothing shows up i know i got the right drivers because my gfs MT3G shows up under adb devices
Boot into fastboot and plug it up to the computer while on that screen to see if Windows will start installing drivers. The issue with the computer not recognizing the phone is driver related so if the previow try doesn't work, you'll need to manually uninstall them which I will link to in a second. After that you can use either guide in my signature to root. I'll also link you to a topic to clear up the confusion about the board.

More info link: here.
To manually re-install the drivers: here. Look at Section III.

ok i booted into fastboot mode and windows did start to install drivers and it said device is ready etc but when i go back into android nada still doesnt see the phone
Use the link from my second post to reinstall the drivers. The other possibility is that USB is hosed in the ROM.

ii think the usb is hosed on the rom..... what now? lol i can get into the recovery menu by pressing home and power but it wont let me choose anything
ps while in fastboot mode it suddenly said fastboot usb and it popped up on my computer but nothing after that
Let me get back to my computer, about 20 minutes. So even if you select the factory reset option in recovery, it doesn't do anything? If that does work it'll wipe all your apps and you'll have to log back in with your Google account.

its a new phone i havent done anything since i noticed how bad froyo sucked on here
so i dont have apps files etc on it its still clean
and yeah i can get into the recovery thing but i cant select anything i can navi with the volume and trackball to like highlight wipe data etc etc but when i try pushing buttons to try and select anything i cant even tried pushing in the trackball nothing i cant get it to do anything
i know pushing the trackball function works because it works under android
this suckssssss
Doesn't suck. It's definitely fixable, just trying to figure out how much work it's going to be.
Try using the new school guide to root from my signature. If we run into problems its going to be while your using SuperOneClick to try and root. I'm hoping it works though. Try that, let me know whether SuperOneClick works or if you have a problem. If you have a problem, please copy the log and post it with the problem.
what if i try flashing the stock oem rom via volume down+ power sequence
and where can i download it
the computer doesnt see anything so its says waiting for device on the superoneclick
can i try flashing the oem rom?
That would get you back to 1.6. If you don't want to root and install a new ROM you can do that. Let me know and I'll provide what you need.
i mean like the official ota 2.2.1 just to see if it was the rom thats screwing with the usb connections
edit i think it has to be in the img extension i tried to downgrade but it gave me a model id error
Not without downgrading to 1.6 first and then upgrading back to 2.2.1. If recovery was working we could just re-flash the 2.2.1 ROM which would probably fix the issues your having. So do you want to downgrade to 1.6 and then root, downgrade to 1.6 and stay there, or downgrade to 1.6 and then re-update to 2.2.1?
trackball isnt working maybe after a lil googling it says to push in the trackball to do a restore in the recovery menu but its not working
i wont mind downgrading
No, it's a common problem with the recovery after running the update. Just downgrading?
i just wanna get off of froyo so what ever i gotta do i am pretty savy but ive never encountered this problem etc so im sure i can follow directions
the oem froyo sucks i just wanna try a new rom
1. Download this file, rename it to "sappimg.zip".
2. Put it on your SD card.
3. Turn the phone off.
4. Boot into hboot by holding (volume down+power), after a few seconds you'll see a bar pop up in the upper right-hand corner.
5. When prompted to hit "ACTION" to apply the image, press the trackball in.
6. You'll see a few different bars pop up in the upper right-hand corner, and then it'll ask if you want to reboot. Press the trackball in to reboot.
7. /fistpump, you're now on 1.6.
Note: You will eventually get the prompt to update again. Make sure you don't or you'll end up going through this again. If you decide later on to root, just use the "New School" guide in my signature. The "Old School" guide will work for your phone as well, but it's a lot harder and more time consuming.
it doesnt find anything i renamed file to sappimg.zip put it on the root of the sd card and it doesnt find anything
anything else?

Won't POWER on ???
I just installed the Orange Glacier ROM and mytouch won't power on. This is like the 6th ROM I installed and I can't seem to boot into recovery. Please HELP !!!!
Well orange glacier was just recently created. Did you say you couldn't get into recovery? Because if you can't try bootloader (power+volume down) scroll down and hit recovery. If that doesn't work use adb to push the pdxxxx.zip or whatever and it will wipe it. Hope that helps.

If you have it set up plug your phone in try turning on bootloader or just turning it on. Then go to where you have adb located press shift and right click on the folder hit open in command prompt and type adb devices. If that doesn't work head over to the irc channel and beg for help lol

After use of ACE Advanced Hack Kit that I think might be useful to fix the problem wifi and bluetooth was not working
Former ROM update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-DesireHD-signed
I did a radio update and then HBOOT
My Desire HD does not boot, it gets stuck at startup, HTC logo white screen, after 2s 2nd vibration volume keys - + does not work when I connect DHD not even recognized by the pc, is there a solution please help me
I tried the UMT, the fastboot by adb, I believe that DHD must be in charge mode or bootloader mode so that it works
I always try to reconnect to the DHD with the PC (windows 7), if t is an OS that it can know the DHD in off mode or the mode "LOCKED")

I can not do, my PC does not detect the DHD
Hi,
I have the same problem. I ran the ace hack kit on an already rooted phone! It was a big mistake. Currently the phone is not detected by PC and "Recovery" and "Factory Reset" does not work.
By the way, when the bootloader is running, the pc detect the phone, but I don't know how can I do in this situation.
Any help plz.
Download a 1.32 RUU. Select "Fastboot" when you're in the bootloader. Connect the phone with ur pc and run the ruu.
I do what i want, because I can.
Ok, I've put my flame suit on, but I swear I have tried everything. I am not a developer level guy by any means, but I've been installing custom roms since the OG droid. But this time I got distracted and clearly made a foolish mistake. I was installing XDABBEB's new rom and I totally flaked out and installed the bootstrap and the rom in the same flash. it obviously didn't work and even though I read the instructions, I tried to restore my rom from a backup. Now the only thing I can do is boot into fastboot.
I've tried a number of ways to get TWRP or CWM back onto my phone so I can sideload a rom onto it, but every time I try to fastboot a recovery file it says that "remote: image is not a boot image" or something. What I have gathered from my research is that I cant install a custom recovery unless I am rooted.
/
So, without a custom recovery and only fastboot at my disposal, where do I go from here?

I have a VS980S. I have tried the LG flash tool, but I can't get any of the numerous LG drivers to recognize my phone. I even tried dd commands in Ubuntu, but all it would do is try and mount volume after volume making it impossible to use the interface,

I hope it works for you. I tried that and flashing TWRP with fastboot but it said that it wasn't a valid boot image. A little research said that happens when your device is not rooted. But how can I root my phone from fastboot alone?

Sorry, what do you mean by "opening window in map"?
I was also in the same boat for 36 h, stuck on trwp recovery, no rom, no gaps in memory... I'm freely sailing now! I did this:
- press together power and lower button to get usb connecting screen, unplugged usb cable.
- LG tools installed and D-802 pilots {for me] installed, plug cable and check pilots again.
- launch in LG tools option for wrong install repair
- wait until the complete rom repair is installed, quite long, and then you win automatic reboot! You just loose root. Ioroot 25 again, that's all.
Hope it works for you chaps.

Yeh try this ... what i meant was when opening windows in adb-map ... windows -explorer !
But try the llink provided ...it will wake up your phone ..! :good:
Believe me before doing any thing using your pc just try to change the usb port first, then let it install the driver automatically(if you're using w7/8)
if windows xp just dont plug your phone remove the old LG driver and then plug your phone to another usb port that the one you have used it before with your phone and install the driver, and then proceed....
Why i am telling you this?
because i had almost the same problem with my galaxy note 2..... it wasn't recognizing my phone until i changed my usb port in download
mode and let it istall the driver......
hope it'll help.......... :good:

Ok, as i understand it you have to hold volume up and plug the device in while its off. The problem I am having is that the phone is always on. Regardless of what mode I have it in, I can always see the back light glowing. I've searched for ways of truly turning the phone off, but I can't find any info.
Suggestions?
