I tried Tekken 3 and it seems it needs MT and the game is very slow.. i am on rooted 026 ..
So if you guys have PSX4droid and played any nice roms without problem , please report here , so that others can also try...
DEfinetly we need keyboard remapping.. any idea ?
Please dont post any links to the ROMS
same
i also want the same
but i think X10 should have multitouch maybe in 2.1
Pls leave MT out as there has been more discussion on it.. so far.. but definetly after playing tekken , i felt , we should have had MT.. but wht can we do..
anyway anyone know how to remap the keyboard to change "hit"-X to camera button ? and jump for volume button..
i played ff7 well in psx4droid untill got the submarine, deep into sea lose control can't play at all.
however tried in nexus one and galasy s stuck at the same spot.

I can't get tekken or any fighting games to work, but I have gotten ff tactics, loaded, reloaded, and need for speed high stakes to run flawlessly, mortal kombat trilogy freezes at start screen, soul blade freezes at loading, gta3 won't load cars or avatar, no go at all on twisted metal 2, tekken 3, and one game I can't remember doesn't load.
All I want to work is tekken 3 and I will be happy.

any really good game thaat doesnt need much keys ?
the screen on the x10i
even though i have got the games working fine from bin files. well i say they work fine, sound is perfect on my xperia x10i, but the screen wont fill and stretch the x10i. ive tried all the settings and still nothing. does anyone have ideas of where im going wrong on this? or is it worth rebooting the entire phone to factory standards and starting again?
without multi-touch you cannot play games like psx games on psx4droid or the games which require mlti-touch like football ( 2.1 is required ) so sony X10 is not for playing games, if you wanna enjoy games then go for desire instead ( great phone as compared to X10 trust me ) HTC desire is far better than X10.

nope ur wrong as i been running psx4driod on my x10 for ages fair enough there is no MT but there is a few games that run perfect on it.
@djboxer. do your games on x10 run with the screen filled? or did you have any problems like im having, with the screen not showing properly. as the button layout is fine on screen, but the actual graphics are squashed up in the middle, and ive tried putting the screen settings to stretched and all the others, and its still putting the graphics squashed in the middle. the sound is running fine, just the graphics are strange. and i cant figure it out. has anyone else figured this out?
people, to be able to play games without MT, buy a wiimote and download an app that connects the controller through bluetooh. works FLAWLESSLY
how do you guys play FF7? i'm able to load the game, but just black screen. any help?

The FF7 I got online was in rar/zip/ecm/bin combination i have to uncompress it to bin file.
I can play FF7 (disc 1), Chrono Cross (disc 1) and SagaFrontier 1 on my X10a. Graphic and video playback are nice but audio is very choppy so I turned it off. Also, it's almost not playable because you cannot multi-touch (you need to press directional key and 1 button to 'run') on those games, without it, the characters are walking in snail speed...
Ive tried playing grand turismo. had 2 different downloads and both had an issue, first one didnt go forward at all and the second one the car can only get up to around 10mph..... the accelrometer works nice with the racing type games but need to find one that actualy works
Hi i think mt for playing psx games would be awsome but: in fact i ve played psx games on my touch diamond and yoused my own psx games and they worked fine. Only reasen why games werent enjoyable: 10 frams/s and okay the diamond has few more hardware buttons but great for final burn for example
Cheers

If you're having trouble with FF7 in the underwater bit, I read in other forums that you can't get past it using the psx4droid app. Apparently you need to do that part on a PSX PC emulator then save the save game file back on to your psx4droid folder, doesn't seem to be any other way around it
i`m playing diablo 1 mostly because i dont need the mt ... like in the other games ... and mostly i`m looking for games witch dont need the use of mt to be played
Heh,i played Dino Crisis 2 : works
Gran Turismo 2 : Works perfectly
GTA 1 : Works perfectly
GTA 2 : Works perfectly
NFS 3 Hot Pursuit : Works perfectly
NFS 4 High Stakes : Works perfectly
Tekken 3 : Not working at all.
Gonna try this evening : Resident Evil series.
BTW : For those that complain of multitouch, ican play ALL games without any problem...how ? Using the hardware buttons.
You just put the "Back" button as the "X", and the "Focus"(Yes the camera button) as the "Square", and you can play almost all the games without anykind of problem, specially driving games.
So for those who complain of MT : Yes its nice but NOT a "Cant live without it".
And for those who say Desire is better : Why are ya here? The X10 can be a LOADS nicer, smoother and better device than the Desire if you tweak it nicely,so shush.

Witnessed something rather strange a few times so I thought I would ask if anyone else has seen it and what does it mean?
Set up Fast & Furious Adrenaline and was excited to see what it looked like - it loaded up and i began to drive through the level - I was very disappointed as it was very choppy and dropping frames - then, after almost a minute of play when I was about to turn it off it began running full FPS and looked awesome - i was pleasantly relieved but didn't understand the delay ...
I also experience this on the desktop frequently, I have a mario coinbox widget that sometimes I click (usually to adjust audio volumes before I enter certain programs) and sometimes when clicking it it runs in slow motion (i'm not aware of anything running in the BG that would cause this) and is later fine.
Additionally I had installed the mario live wallpaper (freaking awesome!) and went to show it to an iPhone fanboy - of course, when enabled it went in slow motion dropping tons of frames - then after about 1 minute it began to run full FPS without issue.
Is this a memory issue where memory is being realocated to perform operations or does the GPU take this long to throttle up? can't wait for root to adjust things like this ...
On another note I installed PSXDroid and FF7 runs OK but the sound is pretty choppy - I'm thinking it may have to do with the slow stock Class 2 SD, so I'm in the midst of replacing it with my old G1 Class 6 8GB
Could the SD be the problem the whole while
Certainly hope so! Do try out the faster card and report to us the outcome!
I noticed the same thing when looking at www.espn3.com over wifi... the connection and audio was fine but the video was very choppy... and then all the sudden the video would be smooth.

yeah ... I just updated PSX4Droid from 1.4 to 1.5 and I'm seeing about the same performance in FF7 ... (using a .bin image - are you using the same or .img? or something else?)
I want to say that after moving everything over to the Class 6 I am seeing better performance with: MarioLive Wallpaper & F&F Adrenaline - however no improved performance on FF7 in PSX Emulator (I'm guessing it's optimized for motorolla procs and not snap-dragons is all?)
How come it takes 5 mins to pull everything off of the SD and about 30mins to put it all back btw?

i'm using psx4droid 1.1 and it runs everything great. i do think that the gpu is probably alittle slow when increasing it's clock speed. might be the lag your looking at.. or i heard they had driver issues with the live wallpapers for opengl. and the devs for those apps were looking into the issues. something about a nasty hole in the drivers. dont' quote me though

Invalid thread - but I will check out a lesser version per suggestions and per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8514607
Its actually FPse on the market and does circles around psx4 droid .Playing fff9 full speed. Post games working full speed for reference!
Edit-
Alright this is going to be simple.
My evo-
Mikfroyo 4.4
Netarchy-toast 4.3.2
Setcpu- smart ass- overclock 1036
16gb class 4
Games tested
- Marvel vs Capcom
-FF9
-Resident evil 3
-Digimon world
FPse at its current state is not much better than early version of psx4droid v2, though it plays cutscenes great, because it struggles to emulate at full speed .
M vs C is a great example since the opening scene and player selection run full speed, but hits a wall at actual game play. In FF9 I am in Oilvert in disc three so the game play seems great . Then in RE3 THE WHOLE GAME AND EMULATOR CRASHED at the beginning cutscene of game. Digimon world started and ran great.
The controls are very well made and much more friendly to big thumbed people, the only complaint would be that you must activate through the input menu the L1L2, R1R2, select , and start buttons for landscape mode for different games.
Note also that this emulator doesn't YET stretch the image fullscreen.
Over all it will take a few updates to polish it but I am confident this developer is headed in the right direction. How this helps some one.
meh, my psp can do that
I think you just got punk'd
Edit:
Wow, great performance. I think zod just got served!

I've been using psx4droid for a while and i really like it. This one though has some serious potential. I tried street fighter alpha 3 and the first thing i noticed is how much better it looked than on psx4droid. However, it ran much slower, im not sure if i can change any settings to fix that. I was amazed by how well it ran rival schools though. Psx4droid runs it but its really slow.
Couple things i dont like about fpse though. There doesnt seem to be haptic feedback ftom button presses. I need haptic feedback.
Also, on fpse the keys arent very forgiving. What i mean is that you need to press the button precisely or it wont register, thats kind of a problem. Psx4droid registers my input even if its a little off.
I cant get start, select and the shoulder buttons in landscape mode. Thats gotta get fixed.
All in all, this emulator has some issues, but it is a first release and has some big potential.
Keep the reviews coming. I don't want to buy it because of that 15 minute window.
I downloaded it just to try it and compare it to psx4driod 1.7 and v2 and I gotta say it still needs some work fsce (wateva the spelling is) is kool but dosen't play ff9 at full speed like psx4driod does....It has potential after a few updates and the ui needs to cleaned up menus look wak to me...just my 2 cents

Had the same issue. Download Autopopstation4 and read the readme. Trying it now.
Update: Works like a charm. Tried this with Final Fantasy V, Metal Gear Disk 1, as well as Legend of Dragoon disk 1. Go nuts...
Update2: Autopopstation does not work on multi-disk eboots. Still looking into that....
Let me start off by saying that I used to use psx4droid on some previous roms and it worked fairly. Definitely not a genuine playing experience, but it worked enough to show it off a little bit. Then when I jumped ship to MIUI it stopped working, no big deal. I just stopped using it. Then I tried this and what do you know.. works like a charm. I messed around with kernels a bit to get the wiimote working and voila.. my rig:
MIUI 1.2.11
Cm snap latest (7.5?)
HW Version 003
The first thing I tried out was Crash Bandicoot. The title and intro scenes flew by at well over 100fps so I decided to turn on the framelimiter in the options. I played the first level and a half and to my almost disbelief.. solid 56-60fps constantly. Very few drops to mid-high 40s. Sure I only played a few minutes, but I was definitely impressed.
Second game I tried was Spyro. Again, runs very smooth at a constant 56-60 during gameplay. Drops during cutscenes, but the gameplay itself is flawless. Again.. incredibly surprised.
Third game.. and this is where things get a bit rough. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. The game itself while you run and jump around runs at 45+ fps but it's definitely playable. It's not perfect 1:1 of what I checked out on youtube, but it plays. I skipped the beginning cutscene hastily, but there are some scenes generated with the games actual engine that you can't skip. This is where it all went downhill. There is an ominous voice speaking to you as you come back as the soul reaver or something along those lines.. I couldn't make it out cause the framerate kept dropping and his voice would skip. This drove me nuts. The sound emulation is generally not great on this emulator, but this game particularly was bad.
Other stuff:
For some reason, the settings don't save for me. I have to set them every single time I start a new game. Hopefully this is not a product of my setup and of the app itself.
I was able to play full screen. I saw someone post earlier that it won't stretch to the full screen, but it seemed to play perfectly across my entire screen beautifully. Just pointing that out.
This got me so excited for gaming on my evo that I actually ordered a Classic Controller Pro from amazon.. I can see myself using my evo much more once it gets to me for gaming. Very excited!
Battery drain was insane. Literally a % a minute. Although don't take this for much as I JUST flashed the kernel and usually I do see quick drain the first day or so of usage.
EDIT: My next game will be Tekken 3 only because I remember having such a hard time emulating it on a stock hd2 about a year ago and once on my own Evo. If this emulates it nicely... well... We have a winrar on our hands.
Updating with a new post otherwise no one will see this. I tried out street fighter 3 alpha and surprisingly enough, it runs like crap. It maintains around 40 fps but unless it runs at 60 it's just not smooth enough to pull off combos and all. Tekken 3 won't play at all past the first logo, the game just crashes. It came as a bin.ecm which I renamed to just a bin to get it to with which might be the problem

Ill have to try it out. Even though actiony games are a bit of a pain it would be cool to play final fantasy and legend of legaia on my phone.

I couldnt see a thread on this and I thought its quite interesting, especially the video where it shows angry birds working after the "Home" button is pressed, can anyone else replicate this? This could be a sign that faster moving text/images are possible with this hardware?

Well, you have to sideload a copy of Angry birds first, then try to run it. I'm not truly interested in seeing animation, as the screen does not refresh fast enough. Rather have slower games (card games, chess, checkers, backgammon).
After I get my market back, I'll try it, just for the sake of it...

Oh I agree, I dont think that anyone should expect a good playback of a fast moving game like angry birds, however like you say slower games like strategy or turn based games would be good and its mostly just interesting to see how fast the screen can actually refresh (check out the video, some of the animations actually look like an LCD screen in black and white) so I just thought it would be interesting to see what any developers could do with that
Heres an example, the pulse news app
http://www.pulse.me/
This is an excellent news aggrigator that would be fantastic on the touch, however as the app uses a few simple animations (requiring you to "swipe" along the news to find what you want) then I would imagine the nook touch screen wouldnt be able to keep up, however if a dev was able to work out how the screen refresh rate was being done higher like in the "hack" above, I had thought that would make this app usable on the touch
We can have fast moving graphics, as I've seen from the article in the e-reader site. There was no hack done. Problem is ghosting due to slow screen.
There is a connect 4 game for android, which had animations for playing the pieces (sliding down from the top), and when you use "nook STR options" (no texture, no animation, etc) it is quite playable. CPU speed for animation is no problem. That is why Eded is offering a way to undervoltage the cpu so it would use less energy, as the screen refrains from using more powerful programs (animations and things of the sort).

Funny you mention that; I have just now finished tweaking my solitaire game especially for a rooted NST! This is a special version for XDA, equivalent to my full paid app, but optimized for the NST, and in fact it will only run on the NST. It's especially good with the 1.1 firmware, which updates the display noticeably more efficiently. Here it is, if you want to give it a try.
My thanks to XDA for all the help I've gotten here over the past couple of years.
Will try by lunchtime. Thanks for that, CSX.
And BTW, I've tried angry birds, and it is kind of silly, because after you launch, you only get to see the results, not the flying bird hitting the pigs. Is that CPU or screen problem?

I think it must be the screen. The NST has an 800Mhz processor. My phone is running at 767Mhz, and Angry Birds runs okay on it.

Its partly the screen, although as shown in the post at the start there is obviously something in the software that is restricting the referesh rate as well since the video shows that in "sleep" mode, the graphics are moving a lot quicker than they do normally.

Thanks for that, have made a note to install this once I get my nook touch
Slitherlink is just superb on e-ink ))))
(Can't post a link)
I found some more nice games:
Curvy (it is just gorgeous on e-ink. For two colored puzzles you have to set the second color to the middle between white and black).
NemoNemo Picross.
Droid Fish. One oft the best chess engines with a very nice sleek design, perfect for the touch ;-)
Shift. Black and White! Sadly almost unplayable without multitouch.
I want to thank everybody for your work on rooting the touch. Im working on social impact of game playing - the last hours have been a very special game experience.
Best Regards
The crossword puzzle app from the stock nook color rom works, I used titanium backup to copy it over and restore it on the str. I tried the same with soduku but no joy there, the screen size doesn't work.
@FloydF: Try Andoku.
I wasn't able to get angry birds or Rio to install.
But Angry Birds Seasons is compatible and installed and ran fine.
I just bought the Nook Tablet for my son at Barnes and nobles with a 40% off coupon.
I followed the root guide and cleaned off all the bloat and replaced with GAPPS and Go Launcher (to hide apps in the app drawer).
I quickly started copying over games from my collection off my Galaxy Nexus via WiFi Explorer.
I downloaded Angry Birds Seasons and it worked no problem. Every game I installed worked. The problem with the market is that the Nook "doesn't" have market access. We all should know the market looks at your build.prop to determine your device (Nook Tablet) and doesn't see it being supported by anything.
So what you DO see are apps with no requirements. This doesn't mean they won't work. You just have to side load them somehow. Either find the APK and side load or a restore a Titanium Backup.
It had no problem playing games. The OMAP processor is new and a good one. Its a step down of what is in the Galaxy Nexus. All the games we put on there played flawlessly.

I have no ides what you guys are talking about with the slow screen. Games looked no different then on my Transformer or various phones. There "maybe" some ghosting but I didn't notice anything when we played some fast paced games.
Also what's this about no multi-touch?
I think the original Nook Color had some same deal where multitouch only worked in the browser or something.
Great little unit IMO.

We're talking about the Nook Simple Touch, with the black and white e-ink display. You can't install apps on it at all without rooting it, and not everything works well on the e-ink display, because it refreshes so slowly.
Playing Angry Birds on the NST is... interesting to say the least. I found that if you hit the N button as you pull back on the bird (before releasing), you can still move the bird around. When you do release, the screen won't pause, but it will look like the bird is on fire and is leaving a massive trail behind it.
Unblock Me Free runs well on the Nook, no problems other than some ghosting, but it can be used to see where the block was previously, and when you clear the puzzle the screen refreshes entirely.
it is still slow. and you need to press home button every few seconds
Okay, saw this can be rooted now.
So my questions, desire for advice, are....
1) Would there be a benefit of installing a custom rom?
2) Will installing a custom rom erase necessary programs that will allow the controller to successfully map to the games I want to play?
3) I'm really only get this because I want to use a good PSX emulator that can use the chip's power to use the shaders and give the games a good HD makeover. This should be more than possible with something like this, right? Basically I'm creating a super PSX device + some N64 emulator. My hope is that I can play this games on 1080p on my television, using either the controller that comes with it, or at least my PS3 controller.
4) Would using apps that overclock this device help game performance?
Should I wait to root this when the official MOJO kitkat android update comes out or does it matter?
Thanks for all your advice!
1) Would there be a benefit of installing a custom rom?
For psx emulation, I doubt it.
2) Will installing a custom rom erase necessary programs that will allow the controller to successfully map to the games I want to play?
Again, not really the controller is easy to map as is (at least with the ouya's emulators)
3) I'm really only get this because I want to use a good PSX emulator that can use the chip's power to use the shaders and give the games a good HD makeover. What you want can be done on the MOJO, just depends on the games.
I haven't tried PSX emulation, but N64 is pushing it- playable but very laggy at least with mupen64plus AE.

All work flawlessly except PPSSPP (doesn't support the D-PAD at the moment, and sound is laggy). Also, DraStic is really wonky because it models the DS touchscreen....Works with a mouse, but that feels strange to use the controller and a mouse....Then again, it's sort of like using a Wii. Heh..

The mojo's controller is better, the PS3 controller will have to be wired in I think.
The R1/R2 might be only digital and not analog depends on the emulator detection of R1/R2.
4) Would using apps that overclock this device help game performance?
Yes it would, but not sure how playable the games would be.
Should I wait to root this when the official MOJO kitkat android update comes out or does it matter?
It's nice that it can be rooted, but I don't really need it, I'm fine waiting for kitkat, but if you want to overclock then you'll need to root it.

Yes, please do!
One last question. You mentioned that the N64 emulator isn't running well on this. Isn't there one on the Ouya??? I could only imagine that on that one, using the much lesser chip (the tegra 3) it would run like crap, if at all.
Im I missing something? Or is this an accurate observation?
SuperN64 is decent, but there really isn't a good N64 emulator at this time. They're all built from the exact same code, just changed the names, really. When one updates, they all seem to update within a few days. My judgement that SuperN64 is flawless has gone out the window because it cannot run Conker at decent speed....One of my all-time favorite games. I still like it, though. From what I've read, I think N64oid is probably a bit less laggy.
Also, I've not tried with it yet (I don't have a cable to root, so I cannot install the mapping software), but the PS3 controller is compatible without needing the cable. It connects with BT, just as it does on tablets or phones.

I don't have an ouya but if you youtube ouya's N64 videos you'll see.
The mojo's is playable, overclocking would help but not sure by how much.
I'll do a youtube video of N64 and PSX on mojo
@ExtremeRyno, I'll try Conker tonight using my mupen64plus AE see what FPS I get
How soon until MOJO gets an update and KitKat?
Any idea if this is coming soon?
Any idea on what the update will fix in terms of bugs, etc?
@ExtremeRyno, I tryied Conker using my mupen64plus AE, at 300% it's laggy but not too bad, the sound is messed up tho.
Pretty crappy you have to sit through the intro lol
Anyway I have my settings there so you can see it.
@Pleiades7, I also did some other random games too

I couldn't get any of the free PSX emulators working on my iso's.
I'll try again next week and I'll install the other N64 emulators, but I'm pretty happy with mupen.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's possible to make PSX games look or perform any better than they did on the original playstation hardware. Emulators are made to best mirror the hardware the games were originally intended to run on. I think that's why some roms wont work or have trouble playing on any emulator for that reason. Sure your playing the games on a 1080p TV through the MOJO, but that doesn't automatically convert the games themselves to HD quality.

I get that. But those games blown up on a big 1080p look pixelated and really show their age anyways.
BUT an emulator like FPse includes OpenGL plugins that redraw the textures and graphics in a way I don't fully understand but transform those games. Just try Twisted Metal 2 on your PS3. Then open up a emulator on your MOJO and play the same game in FPse but turn on the high res open gl plugin. Not only will you feel the difference, but you will swear you are playing a different game. No where was that more apparent than in the Resident Evil Games. Pixelated zombies which might have been novel long ago feel dated now. But those filters on FPse and PCSXreloaded , etc., redraw the monsters in a way that is now thematically coherent and gives the games a fresh coat of paint they always deserved, especially fun considering you couldn't play those games in HD back in the day.
In any case, that's what fun about these things for me. The chance to preserve great games in all their glory and then some.

I haven't messed around with Fpse that much to realize it can use OpenGL. That's pretty cool, kinda anxious to try it out now
I've got shaders enabled, and it runs just swell. Crash Bandicoot looks great, and games like Wipeout still run at 100%.

@ExtremeRyno Conker is playable at 100% enabling Force 4x MSAA & Force GPU rendering for 2D in developers option.

Not sure how it effects other android games tho

I will check that out this evening. Thanks for the tip.
Just wondering if anyone has tried to install a custom recovery and do a nandroid backup. I didn't know how different this device differs from a phones software.
I don't know, if someone of the developers knows a working way to flash a working custom recovery.
As you can see in the way how the root method works, there seems no other way to get out of bootloader/fastboot mode, as to unplug the USB and power cable.
That means, you can't be simple do "fastboot boot xxx.img" and boot a temporarily kernel or recovery.
I have tried it with some of the kernel/recovery images from Nvidia Shield, but after loading the image, it stucks in bootloader.
