Witnessed something rather strange a few times so I thought I would ask if anyone else has seen it and what does it mean?
Set up Fast & Furious Adrenaline and was excited to see what it looked like - it loaded up and i began to drive through the level - I was very disappointed as it was very choppy and dropping frames - then, after almost a minute of play when I was about to turn it off it began running full FPS and looked awesome - i was pleasantly relieved but didn't understand the delay ...
I also experience this on the desktop frequently, I have a mario coinbox widget that sometimes I click (usually to adjust audio volumes before I enter certain programs) and sometimes when clicking it it runs in slow motion (i'm not aware of anything running in the BG that would cause this) and is later fine.
Additionally I had installed the mario live wallpaper (freaking awesome!) and went to show it to an iPhone fanboy - of course, when enabled it went in slow motion dropping tons of frames - then after about 1 minute it began to run full FPS without issue.
Is this a memory issue where memory is being realocated to perform operations or does the GPU take this long to throttle up? can't wait for root to adjust things like this ...
On another note I installed PSXDroid and FF7 runs OK but the sound is pretty choppy - I'm thinking it may have to do with the slow stock Class 2 SD, so I'm in the midst of replacing it with my old G1 Class 6 8GB
Could the SD be the problem the whole while
Certainly hope so! Do try out the faster card and report to us the outcome!
I noticed the same thing when looking at www.espn3.com over wifi... the connection and audio was fine but the video was very choppy... and then all the sudden the video would be smooth.
FF7 is barely playable with sound on this Vibrant handles it much faster.

yeah ... I just updated PSX4Droid from 1.4 to 1.5 and I'm seeing about the same performance in FF7 ... (using a .bin image - are you using the same or .img? or something else?)
I want to say that after moving everything over to the Class 6 I am seeing better performance with: MarioLive Wallpaper & F&F Adrenaline - however no improved performance on FF7 in PSX Emulator (I'm guessing it's optimized for motorolla procs and not snap-dragons is all?)
How come it takes 5 mins to pull everything off of the SD and about 30mins to put it all back btw?
If your having issues with FF7 try this version of psx4droid

ff7 ran fine for me? all i did was just buy the version from the market.

i'm using psx4droid 1.1 and it runs everything great. i do think that the gpu is probably alittle slow when increasing it's clock speed. might be the lag your looking at.. or i heard they had driver issues with the live wallpapers for opengl. and the devs for those apps were looking into the issues. something about a nasty hole in the drivers. dont' quote me though

I'm new to android phones. In fact, other than reading about them, my only experience with them is playing with the evo 4g for about 10 minutes. I was surprised at the significant stuttering while trying to scroll through lists. It made navigating the sprint tv application very very frustrating. Scrolling through the browser settings was also very annoying because of the stutter. Is this normal for android phones? Is it normal for the evo? Is there some way to fix it?
Right now I have an iphone 3g. I'm not happy with having to jailbreak my iphone just to get some basic functionality that I need. I'm afraid that with the iphone 4 won't even be able to turn on a jail broken phone without plugging it into a computer, so I really am looking for an android device, but this scrolling stutter might be a deal breaker, if it is normal.
Demo models are always torn up and not typical.
I really don't have any lag but I'm also rooted, removed the bloat and have a great task manager installed.
the nexus never stuttered. not a single step. the evo tends to. i think it has something to do with the bloatware that htc and sprint have filled it up with.
could be the 30 fps bug. the device is locked at displaying 30 frames per second so things could be choppy. that's the second thing i noticed about the phone. first was how fuzzy everything looked - i upgraded from a droid so that could be the reason.
I don't think its the 30fps bug. 30 fps would be perfectly acceptable. This is a stutter, not just slow frame rate.
If you're coming from an iPhone I can see how the scrolling would bother you. The iPhone is consistently 60fps in the UI at almost all times, does not suffer the choppiness of the Android UI when scrolling lists or applications. Restoring the 60fps target + Froyo should get the Android UI experience up to acceptable levels in my opinion.
It's the live wallpapers that make my app list stutter. I turned it off and it's smooth now.

OMGG stop blaming a 30fps cap for the phone being laggy AT ALL. Its like every single forum if someone brings something up about the phone freezing, lagging, glitching, or not working. Some random person says "its probably because the 30fps cap". Thats not going to stop things from scrolling all in one motion.
But like others have said here, its most likely just because its a demo phone and there might of been a lot of things running. Since most people dont know how to operate android devices they dont close the program and just open everything and anything. Also htc/sprint put a lot on to the phone and bog it down. The phone will be more then operational without rooting, but if you do root, you can give the phone a big increase in speed.
The 'performance improving' ROMs seem to have a great placebo effect.
The phone stutters regardless of what rom you use. The EVO 4G is a laggy phone. It is very unimpressive.
Having sprint bloatware taking up space in your phone's flash memory does not affect performance. It is not taking up ram unless it's running, and even if it is, it will get reclaimed automatically by the operating system as needed.

I seem to disagree with u there. My EVO hasnt choked once. Yeah, its a little jittery with LWP running, but without the LWP, my EVO is as smooth as can be. Not one complaint.

I'm coming from an iphone 3g which had no UI lag. Opening and closing apps took longer though. Scrolling, switching homescreens, and especially scrolling the apps list seems extremely laggy on the Evo..
Try launcher pro if you refuse to root and use the custom roms.
I have virtually zero lag and free memory is always over 200 mb
I'll agree, I just came from an iPhone 3gs and one of the first things I noticed was that the Evo wasn't as smooth. I really like the OS but the scrolling needs to be fixed.
Sent from my HTC Evo using tapatalk.
Hell... I came from an iphone 2G and it scrolls smoother than my evo.
I really think it's the refresh rate.
I had a Nexus One and never noticed the stutter, though some of my iPhone-toting friends did. But the second I updated to Froyo and everything was much faster and more responsive, I could notice how much slower scrolling and switching screens on 2.1 devices was. It's just a matter of what you're used to.
I get some stuttering when scrolling. My Hero (which I still have) doesn't do this. Strange thing is that sometimes I do not see this stuttering and it's smooth as butter. My thought is that something in the background is running and eating up CPU time.
Live wallpapers seem to make a huge difference in how smooth and regular the touch screen refreshes (like scrolling). I don't have big problems with preinstalled live wallpapers by Android and HTC, but when using most downloaded live wallpapers, the difference is noticable - for example, Galactic Core and RedEye Scanner live wallpapers make scrolling noticeably choppier.
This doesn't seem to happen as much with Nexus One I have access to. I think it might the combination of the 30fps cap and the Sense UI.
Well my plan now is to wait until the iPhone 4 is jailbroken. If the evo's stutter is fixed to the point that it is like other android phones, I'll buy the evo. Of not, I'll get the iPhone unless there's a new option on sprint or AT&T.
I should say that I don't buy that the stutter is due to the 30fps cap. I know what 30fps looks like. The scroll stutter/lag hurts useability. A smooth 30fps wouldn't.
It doesn't stutter unless your running certain live wallpapers. If you use a regular wallpaper there is no stuttering. This is not a problem with EVO as I had same problem on my Nexus but after the update to froyo everything was silky smooth even with live wallpapers. So my suggestion is if it bothers you just use a regular wallpaper until froyo drops on the EVO.
As the title mentions, touchscreen response on my A70 seems laggy or jumpy when playing AB.
Basically, when trying to do the fine adjustments to aim, the A70 wants to jump around several pixels worth of movement. (sometimes up to about 1/4 the hight of a bird) On my Nexus 1 and G-tablet I could adjust aim down to pixel sized movements.
It may be due to being close to the screens edge, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this. It is not a constant issue, but touchscreen response definitely seems less precise all around when playing the game. Most other apps I use do not need such fine adjustments, so I can not tell if this happens in them as well.
Edit: Downloaded a multitouch tester. (multitouch vis test) This app plots your finger with x,y cords and a visual dot. When moving slowly, both tracking methods made small jerky hops rather than following my finger smoothly. I have never had this happen with any other android device. And yes, I did try the screen calibration in settings several times.
No one else have this problem?
I have this as well... pretty annoying.

If this is common, then thats unfortunate. If it is rare then we know that we need to talk to archos support.
Are you in fw 2.0.71 ? I think is firmware related problem. I downgraded to 2.0.54 and have much fewer problems. And a faster a70 (z4root and SetCPU 1000mHz)
Hi there, first Message from me and first Touchscreen device...
i think it is because the wires of the touchscreen are not so close together.
When i look at them, the distance of them seem to compare to the "jumps" you mentioned.
But i have no other device to look at.
Are you using an App Killer before starting Angry Birds? I use the System Monitor to kill all unneeded applications to get at least 90 MB of free RAM before started Angry Birds and it runs very smoothly with excellent response from the touchscreen.
Bye.

please try: Settings->Repair->Touchscreen Calibration
Hi _nz_
Did you read the op last sentence.
"And yes, I did try the screen calibration in settings several times."
I have noticed this same issue on my 70.
Hmm, maybe I should start a poll. Try to get a rough guess at the ratio of those with and without this issue.
I also have this problem with my 101. Sometimes the game has frozen completely. I mean freeze as: the screen freezes but the game continues. I can hear the audio still. If I am firing off a bird it will freeze and I can hear the bird continue to fly and break things but can't do anything about it. I have to exit the game and then jump back in. Really annoying when you are at the last move to beat the level. :-( There doesn't seem to be any fix that works for me of the things I've tried. Very frustrating. Still love the unit though!
I don't see this issue on my 70. I'm not too good at ab though, maybe that's the reason.
I see the same issue on my 101. Hard to make fine adjustments.

This has nothing to do with the game not playing smoothly. It is about touch screen response. I have the same issue when using a 150kb multitouch visualizer app on a fresh reboot.
Its actually FPse on the market and does circles around psx4 droid .Playing fff9 full speed. Post games working full speed for reference!
Edit-
Alright this is going to be simple.
My evo-
Mikfroyo 4.4
Netarchy-toast 4.3.2
Setcpu- smart ass- overclock 1036
16gb class 4
Games tested
- Marvel vs Capcom
-FF9
-Resident evil 3
-Digimon world
FPse at its current state is not much better than early version of psx4droid v2, though it plays cutscenes great, because it struggles to emulate at full speed .
M vs C is a great example since the opening scene and player selection run full speed, but hits a wall at actual game play. In FF9 I am in Oilvert in disc three so the game play seems great . Then in RE3 THE WHOLE GAME AND EMULATOR CRASHED at the beginning cutscene of game. Digimon world started and ran great.
The controls are very well made and much more friendly to big thumbed people, the only complaint would be that you must activate through the input menu the L1L2, R1R2, select , and start buttons for landscape mode for different games.
Note also that this emulator doesn't YET stretch the image fullscreen.
Over all it will take a few updates to polish it but I am confident this developer is headed in the right direction. How this helps some one.
meh, my psp can do that
I think you just got punk'd
Edit:
Wow, great performance. I think zod just got served!

I've been using psx4droid for a while and i really like it. This one though has some serious potential. I tried street fighter alpha 3 and the first thing i noticed is how much better it looked than on psx4droid. However, it ran much slower, im not sure if i can change any settings to fix that. I was amazed by how well it ran rival schools though. Psx4droid runs it but its really slow.
Couple things i dont like about fpse though. There doesnt seem to be haptic feedback ftom button presses. I need haptic feedback.
Also, on fpse the keys arent very forgiving. What i mean is that you need to press the button precisely or it wont register, thats kind of a problem. Psx4droid registers my input even if its a little off.
I cant get start, select and the shoulder buttons in landscape mode. Thats gotta get fixed.
All in all, this emulator has some issues, but it is a first release and has some big potential.
Keep the reviews coming. I don't want to buy it because of that 15 minute window.
I downloaded it just to try it and compare it to psx4driod 1.7 and v2 and I gotta say it still needs some work fsce (wateva the spelling is) is kool but dosen't play ff9 at full speed like psx4driod does....It has potential after a few updates and the ui needs to cleaned up menus look wak to me...just my 2 cents

Had the same issue. Download Autopopstation4 and read the readme. Trying it now.
Update: Works like a charm. Tried this with Final Fantasy V, Metal Gear Disk 1, as well as Legend of Dragoon disk 1. Go nuts...
Update2: Autopopstation does not work on multi-disk eboots. Still looking into that....
Let me start off by saying that I used to use psx4droid on some previous roms and it worked fairly. Definitely not a genuine playing experience, but it worked enough to show it off a little bit. Then when I jumped ship to MIUI it stopped working, no big deal. I just stopped using it. Then I tried this and what do you know.. works like a charm. I messed around with kernels a bit to get the wiimote working and voila.. my rig:
MIUI 1.2.11
Cm snap latest (7.5?)
HW Version 003
The first thing I tried out was Crash Bandicoot. The title and intro scenes flew by at well over 100fps so I decided to turn on the framelimiter in the options. I played the first level and a half and to my almost disbelief.. solid 56-60fps constantly. Very few drops to mid-high 40s. Sure I only played a few minutes, but I was definitely impressed.
Second game I tried was Spyro. Again, runs very smooth at a constant 56-60 during gameplay. Drops during cutscenes, but the gameplay itself is flawless. Again.. incredibly surprised.
Third game.. and this is where things get a bit rough. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. The game itself while you run and jump around runs at 45+ fps but it's definitely playable. It's not perfect 1:1 of what I checked out on youtube, but it plays. I skipped the beginning cutscene hastily, but there are some scenes generated with the games actual engine that you can't skip. This is where it all went downhill. There is an ominous voice speaking to you as you come back as the soul reaver or something along those lines.. I couldn't make it out cause the framerate kept dropping and his voice would skip. This drove me nuts. The sound emulation is generally not great on this emulator, but this game particularly was bad.
Other stuff:
For some reason, the settings don't save for me. I have to set them every single time I start a new game. Hopefully this is not a product of my setup and of the app itself.
I was able to play full screen. I saw someone post earlier that it won't stretch to the full screen, but it seemed to play perfectly across my entire screen beautifully. Just pointing that out.
This got me so excited for gaming on my evo that I actually ordered a Classic Controller Pro from amazon.. I can see myself using my evo much more once it gets to me for gaming. Very excited!
Battery drain was insane. Literally a % a minute. Although don't take this for much as I JUST flashed the kernel and usually I do see quick drain the first day or so of usage.
EDIT: My next game will be Tekken 3 only because I remember having such a hard time emulating it on a stock hd2 about a year ago and once on my own Evo. If this emulates it nicely... well... We have a winrar on our hands.
Updating with a new post otherwise no one will see this. I tried out street fighter 3 alpha and surprisingly enough, it runs like crap. It maintains around 40 fps but unless it runs at 60 it's just not smooth enough to pull off combos and all. Tekken 3 won't play at all past the first logo, the game just crashes. It came as a bin.ecm which I renamed to just a bin to get it to with which might be the problem

I'm thinking of using a HTC Magic as part of my project which involves retro game emulation
The HTC Magic is perfect for my needs as the motherboard is small enough to fit in the casing of a GameBoy Advance.
Can anyone tell me how well emulators tend to run on the Magic when the Magic is overclocked? Could you also tell me what the cpu speed, rom and device type (32A/32B) is?
I'd appreciate any feedback! Thanks!
I've tried to use the Magic for retro gaming (as I love them) and here are my experiences:
FroyoDragon ROM, CPU 235/595, No JIT, no CC:
NES: nesoid is a great emulator for it. Touch controls kinda suck as they lag the game, it'd be cool if you can map the trackball to the gamepad instead. This device suffers from heavy touchscreen lag, however, with my ROM you can play them at almost 100% speed. Kinda forget about sound though, as it's a little choppy.
SNES: snesoid... same with nesoid. 80-100% speed without sound, forget sound if you want to play.
SEGA: (from the same developer of nesoid)... I've been able to play Sonic 2 at almost 100% speed with kinda playable sound, except for the choppyness if you play it with the touch controls.
GingerYoshi ROM:
This ROM gives a lot less lag on touchscreen, but the framerate (touching the screen or not) isn't as smooth. It's constant though, with like 80-100% speed depending on the emulator, their settings and such.
---
Just make sure you configure the emulators to be the lightiest possible. This means... no screen scaling, no touchscreen controls overlay, FPS locked at 30 (or 60), Frameskip at 2-5 (or auto), etc... it takes a lot of trial and error, but it's kinda... possible, yes.
Would I recommend it for a 100% retro experience? no. Get another phone for the task.
Now... for playing on the road or in the waiting line? hell yeah <3
Phoenix OS is amazing, I could finally play my games on 120hz but there is one major issue, which is the fps mode. The movement it's smooth but it lags out while doing multiple key presses.

Hi. I would just like to ask, can you change the Hz of Phoenix OS's Resolution? Because mine's only working on 60.
If you have refresh rate above 60hz then it should show. Otherwise if you are using a monitor thats only 60hz then you are stuck with it.

any suggestion for this problem ??

yes, that's exactly what's happening to me. Too many bugs in the FPS mode. You'd have to reactivate the FPS mode for it to be stable again, but then again some things like the crosshair getting stuck when doing multiple keypresses is always present.
my suggestion is for us to keep addressing this issue so the devs would finally be bothered to fix it. The problem with Phoenix OS user base is that less than 1% address this issue, it's baffling because as if nobody gets bothered by this, as if they are playing games that doesn't need FPS mode like Candy Crush or Clash of Clans lol. I honestly don't know how they can tolerate this issue especially if most of Phoenix OS users play PUBG. They fix so many unnecessary things when the one that needs fixing the most--the one this OS is actually meant to be used for, which are First Person/Third Person games, are being ignored.
To the OP @drckml you should pass it and write new thread to their official forum, also mention that admin forum "dante", it is useless if you post it here on xda because dev probably wont browsing around here.
I just did weeks ago lol. Seems like I'm the only complaining about it and everyone is just tolerating it. Or either: they're noobs at mobile shooters and don't aim pro enough to experience what im talking about, unlike me who does complicated flicks.
Hey Man I Think I Have A Fix, So You Know How Most Games Are Set To Run At 30 fps And 30 fps Only, Well I Noticed That This Games Run Fine With No Issue With Key Presses Or Nothing So What I Did Was Set All My Games To 30 Fps As The Max No More Than That And They Work, Sorry If I Missspell Stuff I'm only 12.
