[Q] needing a zip for bnn firmware 1.3 update - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok so i am autonooter 3 on bnn 1.1 and before i get to messin with 1.4 I would like to update to 1.3 stock and then manual nooter. However, since 1.4 is released I cannot get the signed .zip file of 1.3 from bnn site. and in order to do the manual nooter i need to wipe and update to 1.2 and then 1.3 sooo I am hoping someone here can help me get to a place to get the 1.2 and 1.3 updates. any help of suggestions would be great. I have already called bnn and was told they can only give me 1.4 update soo anyone here that has magical power or knowledge to help would be amazing! thanks in advance.

i guess i should say i have searched the forum and found links but they have all expired. i did manage to get a 1.2 zip file now i just need 1.3 thanks again to anyone with help

If I have 1.4.1 installed can I downgrade to 1.3?

You would have to 8 failed boots to restore to factory... then do power + n to clear data... then drop the 1.3 file on the nook per B&N instructions.

You might want to install clockworkmod. It prevents B&N from performing the OTA 1.4.1 updates that they seem to be getting pretty aggressive about. berks

[Q] Help i need the 2.3.315 sbf

I recently tried to change roms on my droid x, but I forgot to mount system before installing and now my phone is bricked. I was running the 2.3.315 system build when i did it. Does anyone have the file or a link to where i could find this file? Or would it work if I simply flashed the 2.3.340 release?
Thanks for any and all help, I really appreciate it

I did what you told me and it worked very well. I am updating to the latest software version now. Thank you very much
Would this also be the route for me to go if I'm still on version 2.3.9?
I haven't checked out any new stuff for the phone in a while and would like to get to the newest .340.

[Q] upgrading to B&N software v1.2

I have used autonooter 3.0 to root my NC. I see that v1.2 is out for Flash etc...If I update the software to 1.2 will that take root off so I will have to do the autonooter again? Thanks, I am rather new to this.

You first have to take your Nook Color back to stock, unrooted 1.1, then install the 1.2 update. There is no autonooter yet for 1.2, but manual roots are in an advanced stage of development.
Thanks. I have also read that B&N has started distributing the upgrade over the net via wifi. How do you turn off updates over wifi on the NC?

I've never seen a 100% definitive answer to this question, however, this is what I and a bunch of other peopel did and never got the update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11341224&postcount=46
(p.s. I'm running Phiremod now, so it's a non issue, but I went a few weeks like this and never had any problems).

[Q] I'm new to the site and in need of general help

okay, as i said i'm new to the site and i've bought myself a few days back my first android phone, Samsung SGH-I5800 Galaxy 3. I have a iTouch so i'm guessing the things you do here are similar to the term "jailbreak-ing". Now if isn't hard for any of you, i'd appreciate if some you could post me some directions or post explanations on certain aspcets such as:
What is root-ing and how it's done and what does it do?
What does the term "flash/flashing" mean?
What are ROMs? (Where to download and how to install Kyrillos 5.7 ROM)
What is ODIN and how to use it?
Thank you.
Hi there,
I have my Apollo only for a week, so i'm not pro user, but i've installed my first few custom roms on my Apollo so.
Personally i don't know that many as most users arround here, only thing i know is the following:
First download Kies software from Samsung support, that wil install the neccesary drivers for your apollo.
then,
Flashing: the prucedure u do to get other/custom android software on your phone/pda
Rom: the piece of software itself, what needs to be downloaded to put on your hpone/pda
Odin: the software program you need to run to start flashing your phone.
So in the therms of XDA: You download your Rom, put it in Odin flashing software, and start flashing your phone.
i hope i'm a bit of help, before flashing, i would read some posts here in the forum, more precisely on how to flash etc, cuz there are some risks involved if you don't do it right.

1) What is Rooting?
2) How To Root
3) Installing a new ROM/Kernel into the internal memory of your device is called Flashing.
4) If you are familiar to Linux, a ROM is similar to a Distribution. They are essentially all the same, built on the same platform. And most of them are tweaked, to deliver a better performance than the stock firmware.
5) Download Link + Install Instructions for Kyrillos' ROM
6) How to use Odin?
^ thanks guys, appreciate the effort
so, if i'm not mistaken all i have to do is download Kyrillos ROM followe instruction in ODIN and that's that?

You on froyo or eclair?? You mean z4root. It doesn t take that much time. Reboot and retry.
And if you are on froyo, z4root will not work. You have to use superoneclick.
well, to be honest i don't know what is froyo nor eclair, i just know that froyo is commonly linked with 2.2 FW and eclair with 2.1. i know that when i've plugged my phone to Kies it uploaded to 2.2...
could you please link me that second program?

It's yet to be released to the public!
Flash 5.5 and upgrade to 5.7 using the Update.zip for now

To OverClock your device, you need an OC Kernel. Download one of these :
1) FuguMod I5800 (froyo) v2.2 (Bleeding Edge)
2) FuguMod Ultra Pre-Realease
Now flash this as 'One Package' using Odin (the same way you flash a ROM).
Install Set CPU from Here
Open SetCPU, and move the slider upto 1300MHz (/1366MHz) and you now have an OverClocked device
thanks, i'll try it right away, just one thing...which is the safest OC setting?

800MHz is by far the most stable. But if thats what you want, flash This Kernel.
well, i'm trying to get a bit more "juice" out of my phone, i bought it exclusively so that i don't spend big bucks on the iPhone and i was thinking if 1100 or 1000 were stable enough, as i've read somewhere that on a certain ROM 1300 runs perfectly without any bugs or overheating problems...
could you now please help me configure my phone to lets say 1100Mhz and what other options should i tick as it's a bit confusing...

There are no 'options' that are to be ticked. Download one of the 2 Kernels I gave links to in my earlier post. And flash it as 'One Package' using Odin (the same way you flash a ROM). And use SetCPU to do the rest. Nothing else to be done.

Yes and no,
You can flash with CWM however after downloading the archive you will need to extract it and only use the update.zip from within. You need to place the update on the EXTERNAL sd card for it to work. It is running great on my a500.
Make sure your version is running the same as the before I have posted in the OP. I don't know if it will make a difference but it might.
Ok yea before I rooted it wanted me to update to the ver. You had before you updated to your current build.
I wounder if you are correct about update to 3.1 then 3.2 cuz it definitely was trying to do the other build not the 3.2 unless that is new..
I hope that the update help fc'ings with some gameloft games asphalt 6 was downloaded while on 3.0.1 tried to play compatibility issue then used a501 rom and others all popular roms still didn't work...
Frustrating ..
Is there a way after I update to do a factory reset to delete every and start over .. everytime I try it just delete apps kinda all programs are still there though ex. I go to market after factory reset and it says open insted of install so the apps are hidden but still installed lol..
Sry for writing a book but I'm getting frustrated.
thank you again bud!

[Q] help! no update from android 3.2

Can anyone help me please.
I bought a 2nd hand rooted a500.
successfully flashed to a near stock 3.2.1, but then decided that i wanted to return to stock in order to get OTA updates up to ICS. With a little help on here I managed to flash one of the stock 3.2 roms from vache.
system now
android version = 3.2
kernel version = 2.6.36.3+
build number = Acer_A500_7.006.03_COM_GEN1
as was the aim, however I'm not recieving any OTA updates, system update claims tablet is up to date!
Has anyone experienced this too, or got any ideas where i'm going wrong

Have you installed the incona tab update enhancement from the play store
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the reply, yes i had installed the update enhancement from play store.
I have now solved the problem so i thought i'd share what i found.
The problem I had:-
I was rooted, but wanted to go back to stock to try the stock OTA ICS. I flashed a stock 3.2 full package from vache's page. The one I went with was 7.006.01_com_gen1. Carried out successfully, however no updates available when doing the system update search. waited a week still nothing, even tried factory reset to clear everything out.
Solution:-
I got impatient so flashed the unstable 3.0.1 rom intending to root again.
before rooting i tried flashing other stock roms (no reason it shouldn't work i reasoned). Successfully flashed full package 4.010.38_com_gen1 (vache's page). tried OTA updates from there and it was successful!!
OTA'd to 7.006.01, then 7.014.01, then on to ICS
Conclusion:-
the difference appears to be the version of android 3.2, I can only assume that 7.006.03 isn't supported in the UK where as 7.006.01 is. If i'd flashed that one in the first place I assume the updates would have worked.
Hey, can you point me to the files and instructions on how to get this done? I rooted it to 7.006.05 long before using thor rom I believe. Not very familiar with the rooting game, but I'm still unable to get ICS update OTA.
FYI, Acer a500 8gb model US.

My understanding from reading around a few threads is that OTA tends not to work if you are rooted and/or running CWM. Not sure on process of un-rooting as i've not done it. But i'm guessing one solution would be flash a stock version of same rom, then do OTA updates.

this thread has the full packages, i'm not sure which will be the correct one for the US but others on here might be able to help with that.
If you rooted via CWM its really straight forward, I followed these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205204
just follow 2. and/or 3.
I want to keep root and go to ics. I know I need to install ics bootloader but have not found a solid thread yet, at least not one that I can flash. Anyone that can direct me to a proven method from 3.2 will be appreciated. I am rooted and gave custom recovery installed cwm.
